Genesis 16
1 Nowe Sarai Abrams wife bare him no children, and she had a maide an Egyptian, Hagar by name.
Saraï, la femme d'Abram, ne lui donna pas d'enfants. Elle avait une servante, une Égyptienne, qui s'appelait Agar.
2 And Sarai said vnto Abram, Beholde now, the Lord hath restrained me from childe bearing. I pray thee goe in vnto my maide: it may be that I shall receiue a childe by her. And Abram obeyed the voyce of Sarai.
Saraï dit à Abram: « Voici, Yahvé m'a empêché d'enfanter. Va donc voir ma servante. Il se peut que j'obtienne d'elle des enfants. » Abram écouta la voix de Saraï.
3 Then Sarai Abrams wife tooke Hagar her maide the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelled ten yeere in the land of Canaan, and gaue her to her husband Abram for his wife.
Saraï, la femme d'Abram, prit Agar l'Égyptienne, sa servante, après qu'Abram eut vécu dix ans au pays de Canaan, et la donna pour femme à son mari Abram.
4 And he went in vnto Hagar, and she conceiued. and when she sawe that she had conceiued, her dame was despised in her eyes.
Il alla vers Agar, et elle devint enceinte. Quand elle vit qu'elle avait conçu, sa maîtresse fut méprisée à ses yeux.
5 Then Sarai saide to Abram, Thou doest me wrong. I haue giuen my maide into thy bosome, and she seeth that she hath conceiued, and I am despised in her eyes: the Lord iudge betweene me and thee.
Saraï dit à Abram: « Ce tort est de ta faute. J'ai mis ma servante dans ton sein, et quand elle a vu qu'elle avait conçu, elle m'a méprisée. Que Yahvé juge entre moi et toi. »
6 Then Abram saide to Sarai, Beholde, thy maide is in thine hand: doe with her as it pleaseth thee. Then Sarai dealt roughly with her: wherefore she fled from her.
Mais Abram dit à Saraï: « Voici ta servante qui est entre tes mains. Fais-lui tout ce qui est bon à tes yeux. » Saraï la traita durement, et elle s'enfuit devant elle.
7 But the Angel of the Lord founde her beside a fountaine of water in the wildernesse by the fountaine in the way to Shur,
L'ange de Yahvé la trouva près d'une fontaine d'eau dans le désert, près de la fontaine sur le chemin de Shur.
8 And he saide, Hagar Sarais maide, whence commest thou? and whither wilt thou goe? And she said, I flie from my dame Sarai.
Il lui dit: « Agar, servante de Saraï, d'où viens-tu? Où vas-tu? » Elle a dit: « Je fuis le visage de ma maîtresse Saraï. »
9 Then the Angel of the Lord saide to her, Returne to thy dame, and humble thy selfe vnder her hands.
L'ange de Yahvé lui dit: « Retourne vers ta maîtresse, et soumets-toi à ses mains. »
10 Againe the Angel of the Lord saide vnto her, I will so greatly increase thy seede, that it shall not be numbred for multitude.
L'ange de Yahvé lui dit: « Je multiplierai beaucoup ta descendance, et elle ne sera pas comptée comme une multitude. »
11 Also the Angel of the Lord said vnto her, See, thou art with childe, and shalt beare a sonne, and shalt call his name Ishmael: for the Lord hath heard thy tribulation.
L'ange de Yahvé lui dit: « Voici, tu es enceinte, et tu vas enfanter un fils. Tu lui donneras le nom d'Ismaël, car Yahvé a entendu ta souffrance.
12 And he shalbe a wilde man: his hande shall be against euery man, and euery mans hand against him. and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
Il sera comme un âne sauvage parmi les hommes. Sa main sera contre tout homme, et la main de tout homme contre lui. Il vivra en opposition à tous ses frères. »
13 Then she called the name of the Lord, that spake vnto her, Thou God lookest on me: for she said, Haue I not also here looked after him that seeth me?
Elle appela le nom de Yahvé qui lui avait parlé: « Tu es un Dieu qui voit », car elle disait: « Suis-je restée en vie après l'avoir vu? »
14 Wherefore the well was called, Beerlahai-roi. lo, it is betweene Kadesh and Bered.
C'est pourquoi on appela le puits Beer Lahai Roi. Voici, il est entre Kadès et Bered.
15 And Hagar bare Abram a sonne, and Abram called his sonnes name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
Agar enfanta un fils à Abram. Abram donna à son fils, qu'Agar avait enfanté, le nom d'Ismaël.
16 And Abram was foure score and sixe yeere olde, when Hagar bare him Ishmael.
Abram était âgé de quatre-vingt-six ans quand Agar enfanta Ismaël à Abram.
