Genesis 13
1 Then Abram went vp from Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him toward the South.
Abram monta donc de l’Égypte, lui, sa femme et tout ce qu’il avait, et Lot avec lui, vers la région australe.
2 And Abram was very rich in cattell, in siluer and in golde.
Or Abram était très riche en possession d’or et d’argent.
3 And he went on his iourney from ye South toward Beth-el, to the place where his tent had bene at ye beginning, betweene Beth-el and Haai,
Il s’en retourna par le même chemin qu’il était venu, du midi à Béthel, jusqu’au lieu où auparavant il avait planté sa tente, entre Béthel et Haï;
4 Vnto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the Name of the Lord.
Au lieu où il avait fait d’abord un autel, et il invoqua là le nom du Seigneur.
5 And Lot also, who went with Abram, had sheepe, and cattell and tentes,
Mais Lot qui était avec Abram, avait aussi des troupeaux de brebis et de gros bétail, et des tentes.
6 So that the land coulde not beare them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they coulde not dwell together.
Et ce pays ne leur permettait pas de demeurer ensemble; car leurs biens étaient nombreux, et ils ne pouvaient habiter en commun.
7 Also there was debate betweene ye heardmen of Abrams cattell, and the heardmen of Lots cattell. (and the Canaanites and the Perizzites dwelled at that time in the land.)
De là il s’éleva une querelle entre les pasteurs des troupeaux d’Abram et de Lot. Or en ce temps-là les Chananéens et les Phéréséens habitaient en ce pays.
8 Then saide Abram vnto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, betweene thee and me, neither betweene mine heardmen and thine heardmen: for we be brethren.
Abram dit donc à Lot: Je te prie, qu’il n’y ait pas de débat entre moi et toi, ni entre mes pasteurs et tes pasteurs; car nous sommes frères.
9 Is not the whole land before thee? depart I pray thee from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will goe to the right: or if thou goe to the right hand, then I will take the left.
Voici que tout le pays est devant toi: sépare-toi de moi, je te conjure; si tu vas à gauche, j’irai à droite, et si tu choisis la droite, je prendrai la gauche.
10 So when Lot lifted vp his eyes, he saw that all the plaine of Iorden was watered euery where: (for before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorah, it was as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest vnto Zoar)
C’est pourquoi Lot, les yeux levés, vit toute la contrée qui s’étendait le long du Jourdain, et qui, avant que le Seigneur eût détruit Sodome et Gomorrhe, était toute arrosée, comme le paradis du Seigneur, et comme l’Égypte, en venant vers Ségor.
11 Then Lot chose vnto him all the plaine of Iorden, and tooke his iourney from the East: and they departed the one from the other.
Lot choisit pour lui les environs du Jourdain, et s’éloigna de l’orient: c’est ainsi qu’ils se séparèrent l’un de l’autre.
12 Abram dwelled in the lande of Canaan, and Lot abode in the cities of the plaine, and pitched his tent euen to Sodom.
Abram habita dans la terre de Chanaan, et Lot demeura dans les villes qui étaient aux environs du Jourdain, et il habita dans Sodome.
13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and exceeding sinners against the Lord.
Or les habitants de Sodome étaient très méchants, et très grands pécheurs devant le Seigneur.
14 Then the Lord saide vnto Abram, (after that Lot was departed from him) Lift vp thine eyes nowe, and looke from the place where thou art, Northward, and Southward, and Eastwarde, and Westward:
Et le Seigneur dit à Abram, après que Lot fut séparé de lui: Lève les yeux et regarde du lieu où tu es maintenant, vers l’aquilon et le midi, vers l’orient et l’occident.
15 For all the land, which thou seest, will I giue vnto thee and to thy seede for euer,
Tout le pays que tu aperçois, je te le donnerai, à toi et à ta postérité pour toujours.
16 And I will make thy seede, as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seede be numbred.
Je ferai ta postérité comme la poussière de la terre; si quelqu’un d’entre les hommes peut nombrer la poussière de la terre, il pourra aussi nombrer ta postérité.
17 Arise, walke through the land, in ye length thereof, and breadth thereof: for I will giue it vnto thee.
Lève-toi, et parcours le pays en sa longueur et en sa largeur, parce que c’est à toi que je le dois donner.
18 Then Abram remoued his tent, and came and dwelled in the plaine of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and builded there an altar vnto ye Lord.
Levant donc sa tente, Abram vint et habita près de la vallée de Mambré, qui est en Hébron, et il bâtit là un autel au Seigneur.
