Ezra 5
1 Then Haggai a Prophet and Zechariah the sonne of Iddo a Prophet prophecied vnto the Iewes that were in Iudah, and Ierusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, euen vnto them.
Et les prophètes, Aggée le prophète, et Zacharie, fils d’Iddo, prophétisèrent aux Juifs qui étaient en Juda et à Jérusalem, au nom du Dieu d’Israël.
2 Then Zerubbabel the sonne of Shealtiel, and Ieshua the sonne of Iozadak arose, and began to builde the house of God at Ierusalem, and with them were the Prophetes of God, which helped them.
Alors Zorobabel, fils de Shealthiel, et Jéshua, fils de Jotsadak, se levèrent et commencèrent à bâtir la maison de Dieu qui est à Jérusalem, et avec eux, les prophètes de Dieu qui les assistaient.
3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, which was captaine beyonde the Riuer, and Shether-boznai and their companions, and sayd thus vnto them, Who hath giuen you commandement to buylde this house, and to lay the foundations of these walles?
En ce temps-là, Thathnaï, gouverneur de ce côté du fleuve, et Shethar-Boznaï, et leurs collègues, vinrent vers eux, et leur parlèrent ainsi: Qui vous a donné ordre de bâtir cette maison et d’achever cette muraille?
4 Then sayde we vnto them after this maner, What are the names of the men that buylde this buylding?
Alors nous leur avons dit quels étaient les noms des hommes qui bâtissaient cet édifice.
5 But the eye of their God was vpon the Elders of the Iewes, that they coulde not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they answered by letters thereunto.
Et l’œil de leur Dieu était sur les anciens des Juifs; et ils ne les firent pas cesser jusqu’à ce que l’affaire parvienne à Darius; et alors ils répondirent par lettre à ce sujet.
6 The copie of the letter, that Tatnai captaine beyond the Riuer, and Shether-boznai and his companions, Apharsechaie, (which were beyond the Riuer) sent vnto King Darius.
Copie de la lettre que Thathnaï, gouverneur de ce côté du fleuve, et Shethar-Boznaï et ses collègues les Apharsakites, qui étaient de ce côté du fleuve, envoyèrent au roi Darius.
7 They sent a letter vnto him, wherein it was written thus, VNTO DARIVS the king, all peace.
Ils lui envoyèrent un rapport dans lequel il était ainsi écrit: Au roi Darius, toute paix!
8 Be it knowen vnto the King, that we went into the prouince of Iudea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and beames are layde in the walles, and this worke is wrought speedily, and prospereth in their hands.
Qu’il soit connu du roi que nous sommes allés dans la province de Juda, à la maison du grand Dieu; et elle se bâtit avec de grandes pierres, et le bois se pose dans les murs; et cet ouvrage se poursuit avec zèle et prospère dans leurs mains.
9 Then asked we those Elders, and sayd vnto them thus, Who hath giuen you commandement to buylde this house, and to lay the foundation of these walles?
Alors nous avons interrogé ces anciens, nous leur avons parlé ainsi: Qui vous a donné ordre de bâtir cette maison et d’achever cette muraille?
10 We asked their names also, that we might certifie thee, and that we might write the names of the men that were their rulers.
Et nous leur avons aussi demandé leurs noms pour te les faire savoir, afin de t’écrire les noms des hommes qui sont les principaux parmi eux;
11 But they answered vs thus, and sayd, We are the seruants of the God of heauen and earth, and buylde the house that was buylt of olde and many yeeres ago, which a great King of Israel builded, and founded it.
et ils répondirent ainsi, disant: Nous sommes les serviteurs du Dieu des cieux et de la terre, et nous bâtissons la maison qui fut bâtie anciennement, il y a bien des années; et un grand roi d’Israël l’a bâtie et achevée.
12 But after that our fathers had prouoked the God of heauen vnto wrath, he gaue them ouer into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar King of Babel the Caldean, and he destroyed this house, and caryed the people away captiue vnto Babel.
Mais quand nos pères provoquèrent le Dieu des cieux, il les livra en la main de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, le Chaldéen, et il détruisit cette maison et transporta le peuple à Babylone.
13 But in the first yere of Cyrus King of Babel, King Cyrus made a decree to buylde this house of God.
Mais la première année de Cyrus, roi de Babylone, le roi Cyrus donna ordre de bâtir cette maison de Dieu.
14 And the vessels of golde and siluer of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar tooke out of the Temple, that was in Ierusalem, and brought them into the Temple of Babel, those did Cyrus the king take out of the Temple of Babel, and they gaue them vnto one Sheshbazzar by his name, whome he had made captaine.
Et aussi les ustensiles d’or et d’argent de la maison de Dieu, que Nebucadnetsar a sortis du temple qui était à Jérusalem et a emportés dans le temple de Babylone, le roi Cyrus les sortit du temple de Babylone, et les livra au nommé Sheshbatsar, qu’il avait fait gouverneur;
15 And he sayde vnto him, Take these vessels and goe thy way, and put them in the Temple that is in Ierusalem, and let the house of God be buylt in his place.
et il lui dit: Prends ces ustensiles, va, place-les dans le temple qui est à Jérusalem, et qu’on bâtisse la maison de Dieu sur son emplacement.
16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar and layde the foundation of the house of God, which is in Ierusalem, and since that time euen vntill nowe, hath it bene in buylding, yet is it not finished.
Alors ce Sheshbatsar est venu et a posé les fondements de la maison de Dieu qui est à Jérusalem, et depuis lors jusqu’à présent elle se bâtit; mais elle n’est pas achevée.
17 Nowe therefore if it please the King, let there be searche made in the house of the Kings treasures, which is there in Babel, whether a decree hath bene made by King Cyrus, to build this house of God in Ierusalem, and let the King send his minde concerning this.
Et maintenant, s’il semble bon au roi, qu’on recherche dans la maison des trésors du roi, qui est là à Babylone, s’il est vrai que, de par le roi Cyrus, ordre a été donné de bâtir cette maison de Dieu à Jérusalem; et que le roi nous envoie sa volonté sur cela.
