Ezra 4
1 Bvt the aduersaries of Iudah and Beniamin heard, that the children of the captiuitie builded the Temple vnto the Lord God of Israel.
Οι δε εχθροί του Ιούδα και Βενιαμίν, ακούσαντες ότι οι υιοί της αιχμαλωσίας οικοδομούσι τον ναόν εις Κύριον τον Θεόν του Ισραήλ,
2 And they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chiefe fathers, and sayd vnto them, We wil builde with you: for we seeke the Lord your God as ye do, and we haue sacrificed vnto him since the time of Esar Haddon king of Asshur, which brought vs vp hither.
ήλθον προς τον Ζοροβάβελ και προς τους αρχηγούς των πατριών και είπον προς αυτούς, Ας οικοδομήσωμεν με σάς· διότι και ημείς εκζητούμεν τον Θεόν σας, καθώς σεις, και εις αυτόν θυσιάζομεν από των ημερών του Εσαραδδών βασιλέως της Ασσούρ, όστις ανεβίβασεν ημάς εδώ.
3 Then Zerubbabel, and Ieshua, and the rest of the chiefe fathers of Israel, sayde vnto them, It is not for you, but for vs to buyld the house vnto our God: for we our selues together wil buylde it vnto the Lord God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded vs.
Ο Ζοροβάβελ όμως και ο Ιησούς και οι λοιποί των αρχηγών των πατριών του Ισραήλ, είπον προς αυτούς, Ουδέν κοινόν εις εσάς και εις ημάς, ώστε να οικοδομήσητε οίκον εις τον Θεόν ημών· αλλ' ημείς αυτοί ηνωμένοι θέλομεν οικοδομήσει εις Κύριον τον Θεόν του Ισραήλ, καθώς προσέταξεν εις ημάς ο βασιλεύς Κύρος, ο βασιλεύς της Περσίας.
4 Wherefore the people of the land discouraged the people of Iudah, and troubled them in buylding,
Τότε ο λαός της γης παρέλυε τας χείρας του λαού του Ιούδα και ετάραττεν αυτούς εν τη οικοδομή,
5 And they hired counsellers against them, to hinder their deuise, all the dayes of Cyrus King of Persia, euen vntill the reigne of Darius King of Persia.
και εμίσθονον συμβούλους εναντίον αυτών, διά να ματαιόνωσι την βουλήν αυτών, πάσας τας ημέρας Κύρου του βασιλέως της Περσίας και έως της βασιλείας Δαρείου του βασιλέως της Περσίας.
6 And in the reigne of Ahashuerosh (in the beginning of his reigne) wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Iudah and Ierusalem.
Και επί της βασιλείας Ασσουήρου, εν αρχή της βασιλείας αυτού, έγραψαν κατηγορίαν κατά των κατοίκων της Ιουδαίας και Ιερουσαλήμ.
7 And in the daies of Artahshashte, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions wrote when it was peace, vnto Artahshashte king of Persia, and the writing of the letter was the Aramites writing, and the thing declared was in the language of the Aramites.
Και εν ταις ημέραις του Αρταξέρξου έγραψεν ο Βισλάμ, ο Μιθρεδάθ, ο Ταβεήλ και οι λοιποί συνέταιροι αυτών προς Αρταξέρξην τον βασιλέα της Περσίας· και η επιστολή ήτο γεγραμμένη Συριστί και εξηγημένη Συριστί.
8 Rehum the chancelour, and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Ierusalem to Artahshashte the King, in this sort.
Ρεούμ ο έπαρχος και Σαμψαί ο γραμματεύς, έγραψαν επιστολήν κατά της Ιερουσαλήμ προς Αρταξέρξην τον βασιλέα, κατά τούτον τον τρόπον·
9 Then wrote Rehum the chauncelour, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions Dinaie, and Apharsathcaie, Tarpelaie, Apharsaie, Archeuaie, Bablaie, Shushanchaie, Dehaue, Elmaie,
Ρεούμ ο έπαρχος και Σαμψαί ο γραμματεύς και οι λοιποί συνέταιροι αυτών, οι Δειναίοι, οι Αφαρσαχαίοι, οι Ταρφαλαίοι, οι Αφαρσαίοι, οι Αρχεναίοι, οι Βαβυλώνιοι, οι Σουσαναχαίοι, οι Δεαυαίοι, οι Ελαμίται
10 And the rest of the people whom the great and noble Asnappar brought ouer, and set in the cities of Samaria, and other that are beyonde the Riuer and Cheeneth.
και οι λοιποί εκ των εθνών, τα οποία ο μέγας και ένδοξος Ασεναφάρ μετεκόμισε και κατώκισεν εις τας πόλεις της Σαμαρείας, και οι λοιποί οι πέραν του ποταμού, και τα λοιπά.
11 This is the copie of the letter that they sent vnto King Artahshashte, THY SERVANTS the men beyond the Riuer and Cheeneth, salute thee.
Τούτο είναι το αντίγραφον της επιστολής, την οποίαν έστειλαν προς αυτόν, προς Αρταξέρξην τον βασιλέα· οι δούλοί σου, οι άνδρες οι πέραν του ποταμού, και τα λοιπά.
12 Be it knowen vnto the King that ye Iewes, which came vp from thee to vs, are come vnto Ierusalem (a citie rebellious and wicked) and buylde, and lay the foundations of the walles, and haue ioyned the foundations.
Γνωστόν έστω εις τον βασιλέα, ότι οι Ιουδαίοι οι αναβάντες από σου προς ημάς, ελθόντες εις Ιερουσαλήμ, οικοδομούσι την πόλιν, την αποστάτιδα και πονηράν, και εγείρουσι τον τοίχον και συνάπτουσι τα θεμέλια.
13 Be it knowen nowe vnto the King, that if this citie be built, and the foundations of the walles layed, they will not giue tolle, tribute, nor custome: so shalt thou hinder the Kings tribute.
Γνωστόν έστω ήδη εις τον βασιλέα, ότι εάν η πόλις αύτη οικοδομηθή και οι τοίχοι εγερθώσι, δεν θέλουσι πληρώσει φόρον, τελώνιον ή διαγώγιον· και θέλει ζημιωθή το εισόδημα των βασιλέων.
14 Nowe therefore because wee haue bene brought vp in the Kings palace, it was not meete for vs to see the Kings dishonour: for this cause haue we sent and certified the King,
Επειδή δε τρεφόμεθα από του παλατίου, και ήτο απρεπές διά ημάς να βλέπωμεν την ατιμίαν του βασιλέως, διά τούτο εστείλαμεν και εγνωστοποιήσαμεν προς τον βασιλέα,
15 That one may searche in the booke of the Chronicles of thy fathers, and thou shalt finde in the booke of the Chronicles, and perceiue that this citie is rebellious and noysome vnto Kings and prouinces, and that they haue moued sedition of olde time, for the which cause this citie was destroyed.
διά να γείνη έρευνα εν τω βιβλίω των υπομνημάτων των πατέρων σου· και θέλεις ευρεί εν τω βιβλίω των υπομνημάτων και γνωρίσει, ότι η πόλις αύτη είναι πόλις αποστάτις και ολέθριος εις τους βασιλείς και εις τας επαρχίας, και ότι εκ παλαιού χρόνου εκίνουν επανάστασιν εν τω μέσω αυτής, διά την οποίαν αιτίαν η πόλις αύτη κατηρημώθη.
16 Wee certifie the King therefore, that if this citie be buylded, and the foundation of the walles layd, by this meanes the portion beyonde the Riuer shall not be thine.
Γνωστοποιούμεν προς τον βασιλέα, ότι εάν η πόλις αύτη ανοικοδομηθή και οι τοίχοι αυτής ανεγερθώσι, δεν θέλεις έχει ουδέν μέρος εις το πέραν του ποταμού.
17 The King sent an answere vnto Rehum the Chauncelour, and Shimshai the Scribe, and so the rest of their companions that dwelt in Samaria, and vnto the other beyond the Riuer, Shelam and Cheeth.
Ο βασιλεύς απεκρίθη προς τον Ρεούμ τον έπαρχον και Σαμψαί τον γραμματέα και τους λοιπούς συνεταίρους αυτών τους κατοικούντας εν Σαμαρεία, και τους άλλους τους πέραν του ποταμού, Ειρήνη, και τα λοιπά.
18 The letter which yee sent vnto vs, hath bene openly read before me,
Η επιστολή, την οποίαν εστείλατε προς ημάς, ανεγνώσθη ακριβώς ενώπιόν μου.
19 And I haue commanded and they haue searched, and founde, that this citie of olde time hath made insurrection against kings, and hath rebelled, and rebellion hath bene committed therein.
Και εξεδόθη διαταγή παρ' εμού, και ηρεύνησαν και εύρηκαν ότι η πόλις αύτη εκ παλαιού χρόνου επαναστατεί εναντίον των βασιλέων, και γίνονται εν αυτή στάσεις και συνωμοσίαι·
20 There haue bene mightie kings also ouer Ierusalem, which haue ruled ouer all beyonde the Riuer, and tolle, tribute, and custome was giuen vnto them.
Υπήρξαν έτι ισχυροί βασιλείς επί Ιερουσαλήμ, δεσπόζοντες επί πάντας τους πέραν του ποταμού· και επληρόνετο εις αυτούς φόρος, τελώνιον και διαγώγιον.
21 Make ye now a decree, that those men may cease, and that the citie be not buylt, till I haue giuen another commandement.
Τώρα λοιπόν προστάξατε να παύσωσι τους ανθρώπους εκείνους, και η πόλις αύτη να μη οικοδομηθή, εωσού εκδοθή διαταγή παρ' εμού.
22 Take heede nowe that ye fayle not to doe this: why should domage grow to hurt the King?
Και προσέξατε να μη αμελήσητε να κάμητε τούτο· διά να μη αυξηθή το κακόν επί ζημία των βασιλέων.
23 When the copie of king Artahshashtes letter was read before Rehum and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went vp in all the haste to Ierusalem vnto the Iewes, and caused them to cease by force and power.
Ότε δε το αντίγραφον της επιστολής του βασιλέως Αρταξέρξου ανεγνώσθη ενώπιον του Ρεούμ και Σαμψαί του γραμματέως και των συνεταίρων αυτών, ανέβησαν μετά σπουδής εις Ιερουσαλήμ προς τους Ιουδαίους, και έπαυσαν αυτούς εν βία και μετά δυνάμεως.
24 Then ceased the worke of the house of God, which was in Ierusalem, and did stay vnto the second yeere of Darius King of Persia.
Και έπαυσε το έργον του οίκου του Θεού του εν Ιερουσαλήμ, και έμεινε πεπαυμένον μέχρι του δευτέρου έτους της βασιλείας Δαρείου του βασιλέως της Περσίας.
