Ezekiel 33
1 Again, the woorde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
La parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
2 Sonne of man, speake to the children of thy people, and say vnto them, When I bring the sworde vpon a lande, if the people of the lande take a man from among them, and make him their watchman,
Fils de l'homme, parle aux enfants de ton peuple, et dis-leur: Quand je ferai venir l'épée sur un pays, et que le peuple de ce pays prendra un homme parmi eux, et l'établira comme sentinelle,
3 If when hee seeth the sworde come vpon ye land, he blow the trumpet, and warne the people,
si, s'il voit l'épée venir sur le pays, il sonne de la trompette et avertit le peuple,
4 Then hee that heareth the sounde of the trumpet, and will not bee warned, if the sworde come, and take him away, his blood shall be vpon his owne head.
alors celui qui entendra le son de la trompette et ne tiendra pas compte de l'avertissement, si l'épée vient et l'emporte, son sang sera sur sa tête.
5 For he heard the sound of the trumpet, and woulde not bee admonished: therefore his blood shall be vpon him: but he that receiueth warning, shall saue his life.
Il a entendu le son de la trompette et n'a pas pris garde. Son sang retombera sur lui, alors que s'il avait écouté l'avertissement, il aurait sauvé son âme.
6 But if the watchman see the sworde come, and blowe not the trumpet, and the people be not warned: if the sworde come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away for his iniquitie, but his blood will I require at the watchmans hande.
Mais si la sentinelle voit venir l'épée et ne sonne pas de la trompette, et que le peuple ne soit pas averti, et que l'épée vienne et prenne quelqu'un d'entre eux, il sera emmené dans son iniquité, mais son sang, je le demanderai de la main de la sentinelle ».
7 So thou, O sonne of man, I haue made thee a watchman vnto the house of Israel: therefore thou shalt heare the woorde at my mouth, and admonish them from me.
« Et toi, fils de l'homme, je t'ai établi comme sentinelle de la maison d'Israël. Écoute donc la parole de ma bouche et donne-leur des avertissements de ma part.
8 When I shall say vnto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt die the death, if thou doest not speake, and admonish the wicked of his way, that wicked man shall die for his iniquitie, but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Si je dis au méchant: 'Méchant, tu mourras', et que tu ne parles pas pour détourner le méchant de sa voie, ce méchant mourra dans son iniquité, et je demanderai son sang de ta main.
9 Neuerthelesse, If thou warne the wicked of his way, to turne from it, if he doe not turne from his way, he shall die for his iniquitie, but thou hast deliuered thy soule.
Cependant, si tu avertis le méchant de sa voie pour qu'il s'en détourne, et qu'il ne s'en détourne pas, il mourra dans son iniquité, mais tu auras sauvé ton âme.
10 Therefore, O thou sonne of man, speake vnto the house of Israel, Thus yee speake and say, If our transgressions and our sinnes bee vpon vs, and we are consumed because of them, howe should we then liue?
« Toi, fils de l'homme, dis à la maison d'Israël: « Vous dites ceci: « Nos transgressions et nos péchés sont sur nous, et nous dépérissons en eux. Comment donc pourrions-nous vivre?
11 Say vnto them, As I liue, sayeth the Lord God, I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turne from his way and liue: turne you, turne you from your euill waies, for why will ye die, O ye house of Israel?
Dis-leur: « Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur Yahvé, je ne prends pas plaisir à la mort du méchant, mais à ce que le méchant se détourne de sa voie et vive ». Tournez-vous, tournez-vous de vos mauvaises voies! Car pourquoi mourrez-vous, maison d'Israël? »
12 Therefore thou sonne of man, saye vnto the children of thy people, The righteousnesse of the righteous shall not deliuer him in the day of his transgression, nor the wickednesse of the wicked shall cause him to fall therein, in the day that he returneth from his wickednesse, neither shall the righteous liue for his righteousnesse in the day that he sinneth.
« Toi, fils de l'homme, dis aux enfants de ton peuple: 'La justice du juste ne le délivrera pas au jour de sa désobéissance. Et quant à la méchanceté du méchant, il ne tombera pas sous son poids le jour où il se détournera de sa méchanceté; et le juste ne pourra pas vivre sous son poids le jour où il péchera.
13 When I shall say vnto the righteous, that he shall surely liue, if he trust to his owne righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, all his righteousnes shall be no more remembred, but for his iniquitie that he hath committed, he shall die for the same.
Quand je dis au juste qu'il vivra, s'il se confie dans sa justice et commet l'iniquité, on ne se souviendra d'aucune de ses actions justes, mais il mourra dans l'iniquité qu'il a commise.
14 Againe when I shall say vnto the wicked, thou shalt die the death, if he turne from his sinne, and doe that which is lawfull and right,
De même, quand je dis au méchant: « Tu mourras », s'il se détourne de son péché et fait ce qui est licite et juste,
15 To wit, if the wicked restore the pledge, and giue againe that he had robbed, and walke in the statutes of life, without committing iniquitie, he shall surely liue, and not die.
s'il restitue le gage, s'il rend ce qu'il avait pris par brigandage, s'il marche dans les règles de la vie, sans commettre d'iniquité, il vivra. Il ne mourra pas.
16 None of his sinnes that he hath comitted, shall be mentioned vnto him: because he hath done that, which is lawful, and right, he shall surely liue.
On ne se souviendra pas contre lui des péchés qu'il a commis. Il a fait ce qui est licite et juste. Il vivra.
17 Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equall: but their owne way is vnequall.
"'Les enfants de ton peuple disent: « La voie de l'Éternel n'est pas juste »; mais eux, leur voie n'est pas juste.
18 When the righteous turneth from his righteousnesse, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die thereby.
Quand le juste se détourne de sa justice et commet l'iniquité, il en meurt.
19 But if the wicked returne from his wickednesse, and doe that which is lawfull and right, hee shall liue thereby.
Si le méchant se détourne de sa méchanceté et fait ce qui est licite et juste, il vivra par cela.
20 Yet yee say, The way of the Lord is not equall. O ye house of Israel, I will iudge you euery one after his waies.
Et vous dites: « La voie du Seigneur n'est pas juste ». Maison d'Israël, je jugerai chacun de vous selon ses voies.'"
21 Also in the twelfth yere of our captiuitie, in the tenth moneth, and in the fift day of the moneth, one that had escaped out of Ierusalem, came vnto me, and said, The citie is smitten.
La douzième année de notre captivité, au dixième mois, le cinquième jour du mois, un fuyard de Jérusalem vint me trouver, disant: « La ville a été vaincue! »
22 Now the hand of the Lord had bene vpon me in ye euening afore hee that had escaped, came, and had opened my mouth vntill he came to me in the morning: and when hee had opened my mouth, I was no more dumme.
Or la main de Yahvé avait été sur moi le soir, avant que celui qui s'était échappé n'arrive; et il m'avait ouvert la bouche jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne me voir le matin; et ma bouche s'ouvrit, et je ne fus plus muet.
23 Againe the worde of the Lord came vnto me, and saide,
La parole de Yahvé me fut adressée, en ces termes:
24 Sonne of man, these that dwel in the desolate places of the land of Israel, talke and say, Abraham was but one, and hee possessed the lande: but we are many, therefore the lande shall be giuen vs in possession.
« Fils d'homme, ceux qui habitent les lieux déserts du pays d'Israël disent: « Abraham était un, et il a hérité du pays; mais nous, nous sommes nombreux. Le pays nous est donné en héritage.
25 Wherefore say vnto them, Thus saieth the Lord God, Ye eate with the blood, and lift vp your eyes towarde your idoles, and sheade blood: should ye then possesse the land?
C'est pourquoi tu leur diras: « Le Seigneur Yahvé dit: « Vous mangez avec le sang, vous levez les yeux vers vos idoles et vous versez le sang. Devriez-vous donc posséder le pays?
26 Ye leane vpon your swordes: ye worke abomination, and yee defile euery one his neighbours wife: should ye then possesse the land?
Vous vous appuyez sur votre épée, vous commettez des abominations, et chacun de vous souille la femme de son prochain. C'est ainsi que vous posséderez le pays? »
27 Say thus vnto them, Thus saieth the Lord God, As I liue, so surely they that are in the desolate places, shall fall by the sword: and him that is in the open field, will I giue vnto the beasts to be deuoured: and they that be in the forts and in the caues, shall die of the pestilence.
Tu leur diras: « Le Seigneur Yahvé dit: « Je suis vivant, et ceux qui sont dans les ruines tomberont par l'épée. Je livrerai à la dévoration des bêtes ceux qui seront en plein champ, et ceux qui seront dans les forteresses et dans les cavernes mourront de la peste.
28 For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pompe of her strength shall cease: and the moutaines of Israel shalbe desolate, and none shall passe through.
Je ferai du pays un objet de désolation et d'étonnement. L'orgueil de sa puissance cessera. Les montagnes d'Israël seront désolées, et personne n'y passera.
29 Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I haue laid ye land desolate and wast, because of al their abominations, that they haue committed.
Alors ils sauront que je suis Yahvé, quand j'aurai fait du pays une solitude et un objet de désolation, à cause de toutes les abominations qu'ils ont commises. »''
30 Also thou sonne of man, the children of thy people that talke of thee by the wals and in the dores of houses, and speake one to another, euery one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and heare what is the word that commeth from the Lord.
« Quant à toi, fils de l'homme, les enfants de ton peuple parlent de toi sur les murs et à la porte des maisons, et ils se parlent les uns aux autres, chacun à son frère, en disant: 'Viens, je te prie, et écoute ce qu'est la parole qui vient de l'Éternel'.
31 For they come vnto thee, as the people vseth to come: and my people sit before thee, and heare thy wordes, but they will not doe them: for with their mouthes they make iestes, and their heart goeth after their couetousnesse.
Ils viennent à toi comme le peuple vient, et ils s'assoient devant toi comme mon peuple, et ils entendent tes paroles, mais ils ne les mettent pas en pratique; car de leur bouche ils montrent beaucoup d'amour, mais leur cœur va après leur gain.
32 And loe, thou art vnto them, as a iesting song of one that hath a pleasant voyce, and can sing well: for they heare thy woordes, but they doe them not.
Voici, tu es pour eux comme un chant très beau de celui qui a une voix agréable, et qui sait bien jouer d'un instrument; car ils entendent tes paroles, mais ils ne les mettent pas en pratique.
33 And when this commeth to passe (for loe, it will come) then shall they know, that a Prophet hath bene among them.
« Quand cela arrivera - attention, cela arrive - alors ils sauront qu'un prophète a été parmi eux. »
