< Ezekiel 26 >
1 And in the eleuenth yeere, in the first day of the moneth, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
And it comes to pass, in the eleventh year, on the first of the month, there has been a word of YHWH to me, saying, “Son of man,
2 Sonne of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Ierusalem, Aha, the gate of the people is broken: it is turned vnto me: for seeing she is desolate, I shall be replenished,
Because that Tyre has said of Jerusalem: Aha, she has been broken, The doors of the peoples, She has turned around to me, I am filled—she has been laid waste,
3 Therefore thus sayth the Lord God, Beholde, I come against thee, O Tyrus, and I will bring vp many nations against thee, as the sea mounteth vp with his waues.
Therefore, thus said Lord YHWH: Behold, I [am] against you, O Tyre, And have caused many nations to come up against you, As the sea causes its billows to come up.
4 And they shall destroy the walles of Tyrus and breake downe her towres: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rocke.
And they have destroyed the walls of Tyre, And they have broken down her towers, And I have scraped her dust from her, And made her for a clear place of a rock.
5 Thou shalt be for the spreading of nettes in the middes of the sea: for I haue spoken it, sayth the Lord God, and it shalbe a spoile to ye nations.
She is a spreading place of nets in the midst of the sea, For I have spoken,” A declaration of Lord YHWH, “And she has been for a spoil to nations.
6 And her daughters which are in the fielde, shall be slaine by the sworde, and they shall know that I am the Lord.
And her daughters who [are] in the field, are slain by sword, And they have known that I [am] YHWH,”
7 For thus sayth the Lord God, Behold, I will bring vpon Tyrus Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel, a King of Kings from the North, with horses and with charets, and with horsemen, with a multitude and much people.
For thus said Lord YHWH: “Behold, I am bringing Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Tyre, From the north—a king of kings, With horse, and with chariot, and with horsemen, Even an assembly, and a numerous people.
8 He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the fielde, and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee, and lift vp the buckler against thee.
He slays your daughters in the field by sword, And he has made a fort against you, And has poured out a mound against you, And has raised a buckler against you.
9 He shall set engins of warre before him against thy walles, and with his weapons breake downe thy towres.
And he places a battering-ram before him against your walls, And he breaks your towers with his weapons.
10 The dust of his horses shall couer thee, for their multitude: thy walles shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheeles, and of the charets, when he shall enter into thy gates as into the entrie of a citie that is broken downe.
From the abundance of his horses their dust cover you, From the noise of horseman, and wheel, and rider, Your walls shake, in his coming into your gates, As the coming into a city that has been broken-up.
11 With the hooues of his horses shall he treade downe all thy streetes: he shall slay thy people by the sworde, and the pillars of thy strength shall fall downe to the ground.
He treads all your out-places with [the] hooves of his horses, He slays your people by sword, And the pillars of your strength come down to the earth.
12 And they shall robbe thy riches, and spoyle thy marchandise, and they shall breake downe thy walles, and destroy thy pleasant houses, and they shall cast thy stones and thy timber and thy dust into the middes of the water.
And they have spoiled your wealth, And they have plundered your merchandise, And they have thrown down your walls, And they break down your desirable houses, And your stones, and your wood, and your dust, They place in the midst of the waters.
13 Thus will I cause the sounde of thy songs to cease, and the sound of thine harpes shall be no more heard.
And I have caused the noise of your songs to cease, And the voice of your harps is heard no more.
14 I wil lay thee like the top of a rocke: thou shalt be for a spreading of nets: thou shalt be built no more: for I the Lord haue spoken it, sayth the Lord God.
And I have given you up for a clear place of a rock, You are a spreading-place of nets, You are not built up anymore, For I, YHWH, have spoken,” A declaration of Lord YHWH.
15 Thus sayth the Lord God to Tyrus, Shall not the yles tremble at the sounde of thy fall? and at the crie of the wounded, when they shall be slaine and murthered in the middes of thee?
Thus said Lord YHWH to Tyre: “Do not—from the noise of your fall, In the groaning of the wounded, In the slaying of the slaughter in your midst—The islands shake?
16 Then all the princes of the sea shall come downe from their thrones: they shall lay away their robes, and put off their broydered garments, and shall clothe themselues with astonishment: they shall sitte vpon the ground, and be astonished at euery moment, and be amased at thee.
And all princes of the sea have come down from off their thrones, And they have turned their robes aside, And strip off their embroidered garments, They put on trembling, They sit on the earth, And they have trembled every moment, And they have been astonished at you,
17 And they shall take vp a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, Howe art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited of the sea men, the renoumed citie which was strong in the sea, both she and her inhabitants, which cause their feare to be on all that haunt therein!
And have lifted up a lamentation for you, And said to you: How you have perished, That are inhabited from the seas, The praised city, that was strong in the sea, She and her inhabitants, Who put their terror on all her inhabitants!
18 Nowe shall the yles be astonished in the day of thy fall: yea, the yles that are in the sea, shall be troubled at thy departure.
Now the islands tremble [on the] day of your fall; The islands that [are] in the sea have been troubled at your outgoing.”
19 For thus saith the Lord God, When I shall make thee a desolate citie, like ye cities that are not inhabited, and when I shall bring the deepe vpon thee, and great waters shall couer thee,
For thus said Lord YHWH: “In My making you a city dried up, Like cities that have not been inhabited, In bringing up the deep against you, Then the great waters have covered you.
20 When I shall cast thee downe with them that descende into the pitte, with the people of olde time, and shall set thee in the lowe partes of the earth, like the olde ruines, with them, I say, which goe downe to the pitte, so that thou shalt not be inhabited, and I shall shewe my glory in the land of the liuing,
And I have caused you to go down, With those going down to the pit, To the people of old, And I have caused you to dwell In the lower parts of the earth—in ancient ruins, With those going down to the pit, So that you are not inhabited, And I have given beauty in the land of the living.
21 I will bring thee to nothing, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou neuer be found againe, sayth the Lord God.
I make you a terror, and you are not, And you are sought, and are not found anymore—for all time,” A declaration of Lord YHWH!
