Ezekiel 20
1 And in the seuenth yeere, in the fift moneth, the tenth day of the moneth, came certaine of the elders of Israel to enquire of the Lord, and sate before me.
Et il arriva, la septième année, au cinquième [mois], le dixième [jour] du mois, que des hommes d’entre les anciens d’Israël vinrent pour consulter l’Éternel; et ils s’assirent devant moi.
2 Then came the worde of the Lord vnto me, saying,
Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:
3 Sonne of man, speake vnto the Elders of Israel, and say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord God, Are ye come to enquire of me? as I liue, sayth the Lord God, when I am asked, I wil not answer you.
Fils d’homme, parle aux anciens d’Israël, et dis-leur: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Êtes-vous venus pour me consulter? Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, si je suis consulté par vous!
4 Wilt thou iudge them, sonne of man? wilt thou iudge them? cause them to vnderstand the abominations of their fathers,
Les jugeras-tu, les jugeras-tu, fils d’homme? Fais-leur connaître les abominations de leurs pères,
5 And say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord God, In the day when I chose Israel, and lift vp mine hand vnto the seede of the house of Iaakob, and made my selfe knowen vnto them in the land of Egypt, when I lift vp mine hand vnto them, and sayd, I am the Lord your God,
et dis-leur: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Au jour où je choisis Israël, et que je levai ma main à la semence de la maison de Jacob, et que je me fis connaître à eux dans le pays d’Égypte, et que je leur levai ma main, disant: Je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu,
6 In the day that I lift vp mine hand vnto them to bring them forth of the land of Egypt, into a land that I had prouided for them, flowing with milke and hony which is pleasant among all lands,
– en ce jour-là je leur levai ma main de les faire sortir du pays d’Égypte [pour les amener] dans le pays sur lequel j’avais jeté les yeux pour eux, [pays] ruisselant de lait et de miel, qui est un ornement entre tous les pays;
7 Then sayd I vnto them, Let euery man cast away the abominations of his eyes, and defile not your selues with the idols of Egypt: for I am the Lord your God.
et je leur dis: Que chacun de vous rejette les abominations que ses yeux regardent, et ne vous rendez pas impurs par les idoles de l’Égypte. Je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu.
8 But they rebelled against me, and would not heare me: for none cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idoles of Egypt: then I thought to powre out mine indignation vpon them, and to accomplish my wrath against them in the mids of the land of Egypt.
Et ils se rebellèrent contre moi, et ne voulurent pas m’écouter; aucun d’eux ne rejeta les abominations que ses yeux regardaient, ni ne quitta les idoles de l’Égypte; et je dis que je verserais ma fureur sur eux, et que je consommerais ma colère sur eux, au milieu du pays d’Égypte.
9 But I had respect to my Name, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whome they were, and in whose sight I made my selfe knowen vnto them in bringing them forth of the land of Egypt.
Mais j’ai agi à cause de mon nom, afin de ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations au milieu desquelles ils étaient, aux yeux desquelles je m’étais fait connaître à eux, en les faisant sortir du pays d’Égypte.
10 Nowe I caried them out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wildernes.
Et je les fis sortir du pays d’Égypte, et les amenai au désert;
11 And I gaue them my statutes, and declared my iudgements vnto them, which if a man doe, he shall liue in them.
et je leur donnai mes statuts et leur fis connaître mes ordonnances, – par lesquels, s’il les pratique, un homme vivra.
12 Moreouer I gaue them also my Sabbaths to be a signe betweene me and them, that they might knowe that I am the Lord, that sanctifie them.
Et je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats, pour être un signe entre moi et eux, afin qu’ils connaissent que je suis l’Éternel qui les sanctifie.
13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wildernes: they walked not in my statutes, and they cast away my iudgements, which if a man doe, he shall liue in them, and my Sabbaths haue they greatly polluted: then I thought to powre out mine indignation vpon them in the wildernes to consume them,
Et la maison d’Israël se rebella contre moi dans le désert; ils ne marchèrent pas dans mes statuts, et ils rejetèrent mes ordonnances, – par lesquels, s’il les pratique, un homme vivra; et ils profanèrent extrêmement mes sabbats; et je dis que je verserais sur eux ma fureur dans le désert, pour les consumer.
14 But I had respect to my Name, that it shoulde not bee polluted before the heathen in whose sight I brought them out.
Mais j’ai agi à cause de mon nom, afin de ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations sous les yeux desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
15 Yet neuerthelesse, I lift vp mine hande vnto them in the wildernes that I would not bring them into the lande, which I had giuen them, flowing with milke and hony, which was pleasant aboue all landes,
Et je leur levai aussi ma main dans le désert, que je ne les amènerais pas dans le pays que je [leur] avais donné, [pays] ruisselant de lait et de miel, qui est un ornement entre tous les pays;
16 Because they cast away my iudgments, and walked not in my statutes, but haue polluted my Sabbaths: for their heart went after their idoles.
parce qu’ils avaient rejeté mes ordonnances, et qu’ils n’avaient pas marché dans mes statuts, et qu’ils avaient profané mes sabbats; car leur cœur marchait après leurs idoles.
17 Neuerthelesse, mine eye spared them, that I would not destroye them, neither would I consume them in the wildernes.
Mais mon œil eut compassion d’eux pour ne pas les détruire, et je ne les consumai pas entièrement dans le désert.
18 But I said vnto their children in the wildernes, Walke ye not in the ordinances of your fathers, neither obserue their maners, nor defile your selues with their idoles.
Et je dis à leurs fils dans le désert: Ne marchez pas dans les statuts de vos pères, et ne gardez point leurs ordonnances, et ne vous rendez pas impurs par leurs idoles.
19 I am the Lord your God: walke in my statutes, and keepe my iudgements and doe them,
Je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu; marchez dans mes statuts, et gardez mes ordonnances et pratiquez-les;
20 And sanctifie my Sabbaths, and they shall bee a signe betweene mee and you, that ye may knowe that I am the Lord your God.
et sanctifiez mes sabbats, et qu’ils soient un signe entre moi et vous, afin que vous connaissiez que je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu.
21 Notwithstanding the children rebelled against mee: they walked not in my statutes, nor kept my iudgements to doe them, which if a man doe, hee shall liue in them, but they polluted my Sabbaths: then I thought to powre out mine indignation vpon them, and to accomplish my wrath against them in the wildernes.
Et les fils se rebellèrent contre moi; ils ne marchèrent pas dans mes statuts et ne gardèrent pas mes ordonnances pour les pratiquer, – par lesquels, s’il les pratique, un homme vivra; ils profanèrent mes sabbats; et je dis que je verserais sur eux ma fureur, pour consommer ma colère contre eux dans le désert.
22 Neuerthelesse I withdrew mine hand and had respect to my Name that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them foorth.
Mais je retirai ma main; et j’ai agi à cause de mon nom, afin de ne pas le profaner aux yeux des nations sous les yeux desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
23 Yet I lift vp mine hande vnto them in the wildernes, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countreys,
Je leur levai aussi ma main dans le désert, que je les disperserais parmi les nations et que je les disséminerais dans les pays,
24 Because they had not executed my iudgements, but had cast away my statutes and had polluted my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers idoles.
parce qu’ils ne pratiquaient pas mes ordonnances, et qu’ils rejetaient mes statuts et profanaient mes sabbats, et que leurs yeux étaient après les idoles de leurs pères.
25 Wherefore I gaue them also statutes that were not good, and iudgements, wherein they should not liue.
Et moi aussi, je leur donnai des statuts qui n’étaient pas bons et des ordonnances par lesquelles ils ne pouvaient vivre;
26 And I polluted them in their owne giftes in that they caused to passe by the fire all that first openeth ye wombe, that I might destroy them, to the ende, that they might know that I am ye Lord.
et je les rendis impurs dans leurs dons, en ce qu’ils consacraient tout ce qui ouvrait la matrice, afin que je les mette en désolation, pour qu’ils connaissent que je suis l’Éternel.
27 Therefore, sonne of man, speake vnto the house of Israel, and say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord God, Yet in this your fathers haue blasphemed me, though they had before grieuously transgressed against me.
C’est pourquoi, fils d’homme, parle à la maison d’Israël, et dis-leur: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Encore en ceci vos pères m’ont outragé, en étant infidèles envers moi.
28 For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted vp mine hand to giue it to them, then they saw euery hie hill, and all the thicke trees, and they offred there their sacrifices, and there they presented their offering of prouocation: there also they made their sweete sauour, and powred out there their drinke offerings.
Quand je les introduisis dans le pays touchant lequel j’avais levé ma main de le leur donner, ils ont regardé toute haute colline et tout arbre touffu, et là ils ont offert leurs sacrifices, et là ils ont présenté la provocation de leur offrande, et là ils ont placé leurs parfums agréables, et là ils ont répandu leurs libations.
29 Then I saide vnto them, What is the hie place whereunto ye goe? And the name thereof was called Bamah vnto this day.
Et je leur dis: Qu’est-ce que ce haut lieu où vous allez? et son nom a été appelé Bama, jusqu’à ce jour.
30 Wherefore, say vnto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God, Are ye not polluted after the maner of your fathers? and commit ye not whoredome after their abominations?
C’est pourquoi, dis à la maison d’Israël: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Ne vous rendez-vous pas impurs dans la voie de vos pères, et ne vous prostituez-vous pas après leurs abominations?
31 For when you offer your giftes, and make your sonnes to passe through the fire, you pollute your selues with all your idoles vnto this day: shall I answere you when I am asked, O house of Israel? As I liue, saith the Lord God, I wil not answere you when I am asked.
Et quand vous offrez vos dons, en faisant passer vos fils par le feu, vous vous rendez impurs par toutes vos idoles jusqu’à aujourd’hui, – et moi, je serais consulté par vous, maison d’Israël? Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, si je suis consulté par vous!
32 Neither shall that be done that commeth into your minde: for ye say, We wil be as the heathen, and as the families of the countreys, and serue wood, and stone.
Et ce qui monte dans votre esprit n’arrivera nullement, en ce que vous dites: Nous serons comme les nations, comme les familles des pays, en servant le bois et la pierre.
33 As I liue, saith the Lord God, I will surely rule you with a mightie hand, and with a stretched out arme, and in my wrath powred out,
Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, si je ne règne sur vous avec une main forte et un bras étendu, et avec effusion de fureur,
34 And will bring you from the people, and will gather you out of the countreys, wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arme, and in my wrath powred out,
et si je ne vous fais sortir d’entre les peuples, et ne vous rassemble hors des pays dans lesquels vous êtes dispersés, avec une main forte et un bras étendu, et avec effusion de fureur,
35 And I will bring you into the wildernes of the people, and there wil I pleade with you face to face.
et si je ne vous introduis dans le désert des peuples, et là n’entre en jugement avec vous face à face!
36 Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wildernes of the lande of Egypt, so will I pleade with you, saith the Lord God.
Comme je suis entré en jugement avec vos pères dans le désert du pays d’Égypte, ainsi j’entrerai en jugement avec vous, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel;
37 And I wil cause you to passe vnder the rod, and wil bring you into the bond of the couenant.
et je vous ferai passer sous la verge, et vous introduirai dans le lien de l’alliance;
38 And I wil chuse out from among you the rebels, and them that transgresse against mee: I will bring them out of the land where they dwel, and they shall not enter into the lande of Israel, and you shall knowe that I am the Lord.
et je séparerai d’entre vous les rebelles et ceux qui se sont révoltés contre moi: je les ferai sortir du pays dans lequel ils séjournent, mais ils n’entreront point dans la terre d’Israël; et vous saurez que je suis l’Éternel.
39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord God, Goe you, and serue euery one his idole, seeing that ye will not obey me, and pollute mine holy Name no more with your giftes and with your idoles.
Et vous, maison d’Israël! ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Allez, servez chacun vos idoles, à l’avenir aussi, si aucun de vous ne veut m’écouter; mais ne profanez plus mon saint nom par vos dons et par vos idoles.
40 For in mine holy mountaine, euen in the hie mountaine of Israel, saith the Lord God, there shall all the house of Israel, and all in the lande, serue me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offrings and the first fruites of your oblations, with all your holy things.
Car en ma montagne sainte, en la haute montagne d’Israël, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, là me servira la maison d’Israël tout entière, dans le pays; là je prendrai plaisir en eux, et là je demanderai vos offrandes élevées et les prémices de vos offrandes, dans toutes vos choses saintes.
41 I will accept your sweete sauour, when I bring you from the people, and gather you out of the countreys, wherein ye haue bene scattered, that I may be sanctified in you before ye heathen.
Je prendrai plaisir en vous comme en un parfum agréable, quand je vous aurai fait sortir d’entre les peuples, et que je vous aurai rassemblés des pays dans lesquels vous serez dispersés, et que je serai sanctifié en vous aux yeux des nations.
42 And ye shall knowe, that I am the Lord, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the land, for the which I lifted vp mine hande to giue it to your fathers.
Et vous saurez que je suis l’Éternel, quand je vous aurai fait entrer dans la terre d’Israël, dans le pays touchant lequel j’ai levé ma main de le donner à vos pères.
43 And there shall ye remember your wayes, and all your workes, wherein ye haue bene defiled, and ye shall iudge your selues worthy to be cut off, for all your euils, that ye haue committed.
Et là vous vous souviendrez de vos voies et de toutes vos actions par lesquelles vous vous êtes rendus impurs, et vous aurez horreur de vous-mêmes à cause de toutes vos iniquités, que vous avez commises;
44 And ye shall knowe, that I am the Lord, when I haue respect vnto you for my Names sake, and not after your wicked wayes, nor according to your corrupt workes, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord God.
et vous saurez que je suis l’Éternel, quand j’agirai envers vous à cause de mon nom, non pas selon vos mauvaises voies et selon vos actions corrompues, ô maison d’Israël, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.
45 Moreouer, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
Et la parole de l’Éternel vint à moi, disant:
46 Sonne of man, set thy face toward the way of Teman, and drop thy word toward the South, and prophecie towarde the forest of the fielde of the South,
Fils d’homme, tourne ta face vers le sud, et distille [tes paroles] contre le midi, et prophétise contre la forêt des champs du midi,
47 And say to the forest of the South, Heare the worde of the Lord: thus saith the Lord God, Beholde, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall deuoure all the greene wood in thee, and all the drie wood: the continuall flame shall not bee quenched, and euery face from the South to the North shall be burnt therein.
et dis à la forêt du midi: Écoute la parole de l’Éternel: Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel: Voici, j’allume en toi un feu qui consumera en toi tout bois vert et tout bois sec; la flamme flamboyante ne sera pas éteinte, et tout ce qu’elle rencontrera en sera brûlé, du midi jusqu’au nord.
48 And all flesh shall see, that I the Lord haue kindled it, and it shall not bee quenched.
Et toute chair verra que moi, l’Éternel, je l’ai allumé; il ne sera pas éteint.
49 Then saide I, Ah Lord God, they say of me, Doeth not he speake parables?
Et je dis: Ah, Seigneur Éternel! ils disent de moi: Celui-ci ne parle-t-il pas en paraboles?
