< Ezekiel 19 >
1 Thou also, take vp a lamentation for the princes of Israel,
“And you, lift up a lamentation to princes of Israel,
2 And say, Wherefore lay thy mother as a lyonesse among the lyons? she nourished her yong ones among the lyons whelps,
and you have said: What [is] your mother? A lioness, She has crouched down among lions, She has multiplied her whelps in the midst of young lions.
3 And she brought vp one of her whelps, and it became a lyon, and it learned to catch the praye, and it deuoured men.
And she brings up one of her whelps, He has been a young lion, And he learns to tear prey, He has devoured man.
4 The nations also heard of him, and he was taken in their nets, and they brought him in chaines vnto the land of Egypt.
And nations hear of him, He has been caught in their pit, And they bring him to the land of Egypt in chains.
5 Nowe when she sawe, that she had waited and her hope was lost, she tooke another of her whelps, and made him a lyon.
And as she waited she sees that her hope has perished, And she takes one of her whelps, She has made him a young lion.
6 Which went among the lyons, and became a lyon, and learned to catch the praye, and he deuoured men.
And he goes up and down in the midst of lions, He has been a young lion, And he learns to tear prey, He has devoured man.
7 And he knew their widowes, and he destroyed their cities, and the land was wasted, and all that was therein by the noyse of his roaring.
And he knows his forsaken habitations, And he has laid waste [to] their cities, And the land and its fullness is desolate, Because of the voice of his roaring.
8 Then the nations set against him on euery side of the countreys, and laide their nets for him: so he was taken in their pit.
And surrounding nations set against him from the provinces. And they spread out their net for him, He has been caught in their pit.
9 And they put him in prison and in chaines, and brought him to the King of Babel, and they put him in holdes, that his voyce should no more be heard vpon the mountaines of Israel.
And they put him in prison—in chains, And they bring him to the king of Babylon, They bring him into bulwarks, So that his voice is not heard On mountains of Israel anymore.
10 Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she brought foorth fruite and branches by the abundant waters,
Your mother, like the vine in your blood, Is being planted by waters, She was bearing fruit and full of boughs, Because of many waters.
11 And she had strong rods for the scepters of them that beare rule, and her stature was exalted among the branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.
And she has strong rods for scepters of rulers, And she is high in stature above—between thick branches, And it appears in its height In the multitude of its thin shoots.
12 But she was plucked vp in wrath: she was cast downe to the ground, and the East winde dried vp her fruite: her branches were broken, and withered: as for the rod of her strength, the fire consumed it.
And she is plucked up in fury, She has been cast to the earth, And the east wind has dried up her fruit, [The] rod of her strength has been broken and withered, Fire has consumed it.
13 And now she is planted in the wildernes in a drie and thirstie ground.
And now she is planted in a wilderness, In a dry and thirsty land.
14 And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath deuoured her fruite, so that she hath no strong rod to be a scepter to rule: this is a lamentation and shalbe for a lamentation.
And fire goes forth from a rod of her boughs, It has devoured her fruit, And she has no rod of strength—a scepter to rule, A lamentation—and she has become for a lamentation!”
