Exodus 34

1 And the Lord saide vnto Moses, Hewe thee two Tables of stone, like vnto the first, and I will write vpon the Tables the wordes that were in the first Tables, which thou brakest in pieces.

Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse: Taille-toi deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières, et monte près de moi sur la montage; je graverai sur ces tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières, que tu as brisées.

2 And be ready in ye morning, that thou mayest come vp earely vnto the mount of Sinai, and waite there for me in the top of the mount.

Sois prêt dès l'aurore, et viens sur le mont Sina, tu te tiendras là auprès de moi, sur la cime de la montagne.

3 But let no man come vp with thee, neither let any man be seene throughout all the mount, neyther let the sheepe nor cattell feede before this mount.

Que personne ne monte avec toi et ne se montre sur aucun lieu de la montagne, que ni bœufs ni brebis ne paissent auprès d'elle.

4 Then Moses hewed two Tables of stone like vnto the first, and rose vp earely in the morning, and went vp vnto the mount of Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and tooke in his hande two Tables of stone.

Et Moïse tailla deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières, et, s'étant levé de grand matin, il alla, comme lui avait dit le Seigneur, sur le mont Sina, tenant les deux tables de pierre.

5 And the Lord descended in the cloude, and stoode with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.

Le Seigneur descendit alors en une nuée; Moïse s'approcha de lui, et il invoqua le nom du Seigneur.

6 So the Lord passed before his face, and cried, The Lord, the Lord, strong, mercifull, and gracious, slowe to anger, and abundant in goodnesse and trueth,

Et le Seigneur passa devant sa face, et Moïse l'invoqua, disant: Seigneur Dieu, plein de clémence, patient, abondant en miséricorde, véritable,

7 Reseruing mercy for thousands, forgiuing iniquitie, and transgression and sinne, and not making the wicked innocent, visiting the iniquitie of the fathers vpon ye children, and vpon childrens children, vnto the third and fourth generation.

Fidèle à garder la justice et la compassion envers des milliers; ôtant l'iniquité, la faute, le péché, ne disculpant jamais le coupable, punissant les crimes des pères sur les enfants et les petits-enfants jusqu’à la troisième ou quatrième génération!

8 Then Moses made haste and bowed him selfe to the earth, and worshipped,

Moïse se, hâta d'adorer la face contre terre,

9 And sayde, O Lord, I pray thee, If I haue founde grace in thy sight, that the Lord woulde nowe goe with vs (for it is a stiffe necked people) and pardon our iniquitie and our sinne, and take vs for thine inheritance.

Et il dit: Si j'ai trouvé devant mon Seigneur, qu'il marche, avec nous; le peuple est revêche, mais vous ôterez nos péchés et nos dérèglements, et nous serons votre peuple.

10 And he answered, Behold, I will make a couenant before all thy people, and will do marueiles, such as haue not bene done in all the worlde, neyther in all nations: and all the people among whom thou art, shall see the worke of the Lord: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.

Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: J'établis mon alliance avec toi devant tout ton peuple; je ferai des choses glorieuses, que l'on n'a jamais vues sur la terre ni chez aucune nation. Et tout le peuple que tu conduis verra les œuvres de Dieu, les merveilles que je ferai pour toi.

11 Keepe diligently that which I commande thee this day: Beholde, I will cast out before thee the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Hiuites, and the Iebusites.

Sois attentif à tout ce que je te prescris: je vais chasser devant votre face l'Amorrhéen, le Chananéen, le Phérézéen, l’Hettéen, l'Évéen, le Gergéséen et le Jébuséen.

12 Take heede to thy selfe, that thou make no compact with ye inhabitantes of the land whither thou goest, least they be the cause of ruine among you:

Garde-foi de jamais faire d'alliance avec ceux qui sont établis sur cette terre en laquelle tu vas entrer, de peur qu'ils ne soient pour vous un sujet de chute.

13 But yee shall ouerthrowe their altars, and breake their images in pieces, and cut downe their groues,

Démolissez leurs autels, brisez leurs colonnes, arrachez leurs bois sacrés; quant aux images de leurs dieux, consumez-les dans la flamme.

14 (For thou shalt bow downe to none other god, because the Lord, whose Name is Ielous, is a ielous God)

N'adorez point de dieux étrangers, car le Seigneur Dieu est nommé zélateur; c'est un Dieu jaloux.

15 Lest thou make a compact with the inhabitantes of the lande, and when they goe a whoring after their gods, and doe sacrifice vnto their gods, some man call thee, and thou eate of his sacrifice:

Ne fais jamais alliance avec ceux qui sont établis sur cette terre, de peur que les tiens ne se prostituent à leurs dieux, et ne leur offrent des sacrifices; que les habitants ne t'invitent et que tu n'en manges avec eux;

16 And least thou take of their daughters vnto thy sonnes, and their daughters goe a whoring after their gods, and make thy sonnes goe a whoring after their gods.

De peur aussi que tu ne prennes de leurs filles pour tes fils, ou que tu ne donnes de tes filles à leurs fils, et que tes filles ne se prostituent à leurs dieux, et que tes fils ne se prostituent à leurs dieux.

17 Thou shalt make thee no gods of metall.

Tu ne te feras pas de dieux jetés en fonte.

18 The feast of vnleauened bread shalt thou keepe: seuen dayes shalt thou eate vnleauened bread, as I commanded thee, in ye time of the moneth of Abib: for in the moneth of Abib thou camest out of Egypt.

Tu observeras la fête des azymes. Pendant sept jours, tu mangeras des azymes, comme je te l’ai ordonné, dans la saison et durant la lune des blés nouveaux, car c'est dans la lune des blés nouveaux que tu es sorti de l'Égypte.

19 Euery male, that first openeth the wombe, shalbe mine: also all the first borne of thy flocke shalbe rekoned mine, both of beeues and sheepe.

Tout mâle, ayant ouvert des entrailles, sera à moi; le premier-né de la génisse, le premier-né de la brebis,

20 But ye first of ye asse thou shalt bie out with a lambe: and if thou redeeme him not, then thou shalt breake his necke: all the first borne of thy sonnes shalt thou redeeme, and none shall appeare before me emptie.

Le premier-né de l'ânesse, tu les rachèteras moyennant une brebis, et, si tu ne les rachètes, tu en paieras la valeur. Tu rachèteras tout premier-né de tes fils; tu ne te présenteras point devant moi les mains vides.

21 Six dayes shalt thou worke, and in the seuenth day thou shalt rest: both in earing time, and in the haruest thou shalt rest.

Tu travailleras six jours, mais le septième est le repos; il y aura repos pour la semence, repos pour la moisson.

22 Thou shalt also obserue the feast of weekes in the time of ye first fruits of wheate haruest, and the feast of gathering fruites in the ende of the yere.

Tu me feras la fête des semaines, au commencement de la moisson des froments, et la fête de la récolte au milieu de l'année.

23 Thrise in a yere shall all your men children appeare before the Lord Iehouah God of Israel.

Trois fois par an, que tout mâle parmi vous se présente devant le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël.

24 For I wil cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy coasts, so that no man shall desire thy land, whe thou shalt come vp to appeare before the Lord thy God thrise in the yeere.

Car, lorsque j'aurai chassé devant toi les nations, et dilaté tes limites, nul ne convoitera ta terre, si tu montes pour te présenter devant le Seigneur ton Dieu, à trois époques de l'année.

25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leauen, neither shall ought of the sacrifice of the feast of Passeouer be left vnto the morning.

Tu n'immoleras pas sur du pain fermenté les victimes que tu feras brûler pour moi; et tu ne garderas rien, jusqu'au matin suivant, des victimes de la pâque.

26 The first ripe fruites of thy land thou shalt bring vnto the house of the Lord thy God: yet shalt thou not seethe a kid in his mothers milke.

Tu déposeras en la maison du Seigneur ton Dieu les prémices de ta terre; tu ne feras point cuire d'agneau au lait de sa mère.

27 And the Lord said vnto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenour of these words I haue made a couenant with thee and with Israel.

Le Seigneur Dieu dit encore à Moïse: Écris toi-même ces paroles; car c'est sur ces paroles que je fonde mon alliance avec toi et avec Israël.

28 So hee was there with the Lord fourtie dayes and fourtie nights, and did neither eat bread nor drinke water: and hee wrote in the Tables the wordes of the couenant, euen the tenne commandements.

Et Moïse était là devant le Seigneur quarante jours et quarante nuits; il ne mangea pas de pain, il ne but point d'eau; et il grava sur les tables les commandements de l'alliance: le Décalogue.

29 So when Moses came downe from mount Sinai, the two Tables of the Testimonie were in Moses hande, as hee descended from the mount: (nowe Moses wist not that the skinne of his face shone bright, after that God had talked with him.

Et lorsque Moïse descendit de la montagne, il tenait en ses mains les deux tables; mais, tout en descendant de la montagne, Moïse ignorait que son visage était devenu glorieux, par la conversation du Seigneur.

30 And Aaron and all the children of Israel looked vpon Moses, and beholde, the skin of his face shone bright, and they were afraid to come neere him)

Cependant, Aaron et tous les anciens d'Israël virent Moïse; ils virent que son visage était glorieux, et ils craignirent de s'approcher de lui.

31 But Moses called them: and Aaron and all the chiefe of the congregation returned vnto him: and Moses talked with them.

Moïse les appela; Aaron aussitôt se retourna vers lui avec tous les chefs du peuple, et Moïse leur parla.

32 And afterwarde all the children of Israel came neere, and he charged them with al that the Lord had said vnto him in mount Sinai.

Ensuite, tous les fils d'Israël l'abordèrent, et il leur prescrivit tout ce que le Seigneur lui avait prescrit à lui-même sur le mont Sina.

33 So Moses made an end of comuning with them, and had put a couering vpon his face.

Et, lorsqu'il eut cessé de parler, il étendit un voile devant son visage.

34 But, when Moses came before the Lord to speake with him, he tooke off the couering vntill he came out: then he came out, and spake vnto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.

Lorsque Moïse ensuite allait parler au Seigneur, il ôtait son voile jusqu'à ce qu'il revînt répéter aux fils d'Israël tout ce que lui avait prescrit le Seigneur.

35 And the children of Israel sawe the face of Moses, howe the skin of Moses face shone bright: therefore Moses put the couering vpon his face, vntill he went to speake with God.

Et les fils d'Israël voyaient que le visage de Moïse était glorieux, et Moïse étendait un voile sur son visage jusqu'à ce qu'il s'en allât parler au Seigneur.
