Exodus 20
1 Then God spake all these wordes, saying,
Le Seigneur dit ensuite toutes ces paroles:
2 I am the Lord thy God, which haue brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu; qui t’ai retiré de la terre d’Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
3 Thou shalt haue none other Gods before me.
Tu n’auras point de dieux étrangers devant moi.
4 Thou shalt make thee no grauen image, neither any similitude of things that are in heauen aboue, neither that are in the earth beneath, nor that are in the waters vnder the earth.
Tu ne te feras point d’image taillée au ciseau, ni aucune représentation de ce qui est en haut dans le ciel, et de ce qui est en bas sur la terre, ni de ce qui est dans les eaux sous la terre.
5 Thou shalt not bowe downe to them, neither serue them: for I am the Lord thy God, a ielous God, visiting the iniquitie of the fathers vpon the children, vpon the third generation and vpon the fourth of them that hate me:
Tu ne les adoreras point, ni ne les honoreras: car c’est moi qui suis le Seigneur ton Dieu fort, jaloux, visitant l’iniquité des pères dans les enfants jusqu’à la troisième et la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,
6 And shewing mercie vnto thousandes to them that loue me, and keepe my commandemets.
Et faisant miséricorde des milliers de fois à ceux qui m’aiment et gardent mes préceptes.
7 Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vaine: for the Lord will not hold him guiltles that taketh his Name in vayne.
Tu ne prendras point le nom du Seigneur ton Dieu en vain; car le Seigneur ne regardera pas comme innocent celui qui aura pris le nom du Seigneur son Dieu en vain.
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keepe it holy.
Souviens-toi de sanctifier le jour du sabbat.
9 Sixe dayes shalt thou labour, and doe all thy worke,
Pendant six jours tu travailleras, et tu feras tous tes ouvrages.
10 But the seuenth day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any worke, thou, nor thy sonne, nor thy daughter, thy man seruant, nor thy mayde, nor thy beast, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
Mais au septième jour est le sabbat du Seigneur ton Dieu; tu ne feras aucun ouvrage en ce jour, ni loi, ni ton fils et ta fille, ton serviteur et ta servante, ta bête et l’étranger qui est au-dedans de tes portes.
11 For in sixe dayes the Lord made the heauen and the earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seuenth day: therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Car c’est en six jours que le Seigneur a fait le ciel et la terre, et la mer, et tout ce qui est en eux, et il s’est reposé au septième jour; c’est pour cela que le Seigneur a béni le jour du sabbat et l’a sanctifié.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy dayes may be prolonged vpon the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère afin que tu sois d’une longue vie sur la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donnera.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
Tu ne tueras point.
14 Thou shalt not commit adulterie.
Tu ne commettras point d’adultère.
15 Thou shalt not steale.
Tu ne feras point de vol.
16 Thou shalt not beare false witnes against thy neighbour.
Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.
17 Thou shalt not couet thy neighbours house, neither shalt thou couet thy neighbours wife, nor his man seruant, nor his mayde, nor his oxe, nor his asse, neyther any thing that is thy neighbours.
Tu ne convoiteras point la maison de ton prochain, et tu ne désireras point sa femme, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni aucune des choses qui sont à lui.
18 And all the people sawe the thunders, and the lightnings, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountaine smoking and when the people saw it they fled and stoode afare off,
Or tout le peuple entendait les tonnerres et le son de la trompette; il voyait les éclairs et la montagne fumante; c’est pourquoi, épouvantés et frappés de terreur, ils se tinrent au loin,
19 And sayde vnto Moses, Talke thou with vs, and we will heare: but let not God talke with vs, lest we die.
Disant à Moïse: Parle-nous loi-même, et nous écouterons; mais que le Seigneur ne nous parle point, de peur que nous ne mourions.
20 Then Moses sayde vnto the people, Feare not: for God is come to proue you, and that his feare may be before you, that ye sinne not.
Et Moïse répondit au peuple: Ne craignez point; car c’est pour vous éprouver que Dieu est venu, et pour que sa crainte soit en vous, et que vous ne péchiez point.
21 So the people stoode afarre off, but Moses drew neere vnto the darkenes where God was.
Le peuple donc se tint au loin; mais Moïse s’approcha de l’obscurité dans laquelle était Dieu.
22 And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Thus thou shalt say vnto the children of Israel, Ye haue seene that I haue talked with you from heauen.
Outre cela le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Voici ce que tu diras aux enfants d’Israël: Vous avez vu vous-mêmes que du haut du ciel je vous ai parlé.
23 Ye shall not make therefore with me gods of siluer, nor gods of golde: you shall make you none.
Vous ne vous ferez point de dieux d’argent, et vous ne vous ferez point de dieux d’or.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make vnto me, and thereon shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheepe, and thine oxen: in all places, where I shall put the remembrance of my Name, I will come vnto thee, and blesse thee.
Vous me ferez un autel de terre, et vous m’offrirez dessus vos holocaustes et vos hosties pacifiques, vos brebis et vos bœufs, dans tout lieu dans lequel sera la mémoire de mon nom; je viendrai à toi et je te bénirai.
25 But if thou wilt make mee an altar of stone, thou shalt not buylde it of hewen stones: for if thou lift vp thy toole vpon them, thou hast polluted them.
Que si tu me fais un autel de pierre, tu ne le bâtiras point de pierres taillées; car si tu lèves le couteau dessus, il sera souillé.
26 Neither shalt thou goe vp by steppes vnto mine altar, that thy filthines be not discouered thereon.
Tu ne monteras point par des degrés à mon autel, afin que ta nudité ne soit pas découverte.
