Exodus 20
1 Then God spake all these wordes, saying,
Et Dieu prononça toutes ces paroles, en disant:
2 I am the Lord thy God, which haue brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Je suis Yahweh, ton dieu, qui t’ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de servitude.
3 Thou shalt haue none other Gods before me.
Tu n’auras pas d’autres dieux devant ma face.
4 Thou shalt make thee no grauen image, neither any similitude of things that are in heauen aboue, neither that are in the earth beneath, nor that are in the waters vnder the earth.
Tu ne te feras pas d’image taillée, ni aucune figure de ce qui est en haut dans le ciel, ou de ce qui est en bas sur la terre, ou de ce qui est dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre.
5 Thou shalt not bowe downe to them, neither serue them: for I am the Lord thy God, a ielous God, visiting the iniquitie of the fathers vpon the children, vpon the third generation and vpon the fourth of them that hate me:
Tu ne te prosterneras point devant elles et tu ne les serviras point. Car moi Yahweh, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, qui punis l’iniquité des pères sur les enfants, sur la troisième et sur la quatrième génération pour ceux qui me haïssent,
6 And shewing mercie vnto thousandes to them that loue me, and keepe my commandemets.
et faisant miséricorde jusqu’à mille générations, pour ceux m’aiment et qui gardent mes commandements.
7 Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vaine: for the Lord will not hold him guiltles that taketh his Name in vayne.
Tu ne prendras point le nom de Yahweh, ton Dieu, en vain, car Yahweh ne laissera pas impuni celui qui prendra son nom en vain.
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keepe it holy.
Souviens-toi du jour du sabbat pour le sanctifier.
9 Sixe dayes shalt thou labour, and doe all thy worke,
Pendant six jours tu travailleras, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage.
10 But the seuenth day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any worke, thou, nor thy sonne, nor thy daughter, thy man seruant, nor thy mayde, nor thy beast, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
Mais le septième jour est un sabbat consacré à Yahweh, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bétail, ni l’étranger qui est dans tes portes.
11 For in sixe dayes the Lord made the heauen and the earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seuenth day: therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Car pendant six jours Yahweh a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu’ils contiennent, et il s’est reposé le septième jour: c’est pourquoi Yahweh a béni le jour du sabbat et l’a sanctifié.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy dayes may be prolonged vpon the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que tes jours soient prolongés dans le pays que Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donne.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
Tu ne tueras point.
14 Thou shalt not commit adulterie.
Tu ne commettras point d’adultère.
15 Thou shalt not steale.
Tu ne déroberas point.
16 Thou shalt not beare false witnes against thy neighbour.
Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignages contre ton prochain.
17 Thou shalt not couet thy neighbours house, neither shalt thou couet thy neighbours wife, nor his man seruant, nor his mayde, nor his oxe, nor his asse, neyther any thing that is thy neighbours.
Tu ne convoiteras point la maison de ton prochain; tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui appartient à ton prochain.
18 And all the people sawe the thunders, and the lightnings, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountaine smoking and when the people saw it they fled and stoode afare off,
Tout le peuple entendait les tonnerres et le son de la trompette; il voyait les flammes et la montagne fumante; à ce spectacle, il tremblait et se tenait à distance.
19 And sayde vnto Moses, Talke thou with vs, and we will heare: but let not God talke with vs, lest we die.
Ils dirent à Moïse: « Parles-nous, toi, et nous écouterons; mais que Dieu ne nous parle point, de peur que nous ne mourrions. »
20 Then Moses sayde vnto the people, Feare not: for God is come to proue you, and that his feare may be before you, that ye sinne not.
Moïse répondit au peuple: « Ne vous effrayez pas, car c’est pour vous mettre à l’épreuve que Dieu est venu, et pour que sa crainte vous soit présente, afin que vous ne péchiez pas. »
21 So the people stoode afarre off, but Moses drew neere vnto the darkenes where God was.
Et le peuple resta à distance; mais Moïse s’approcha de la nuée où était Dieu.
22 And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Thus thou shalt say vnto the children of Israel, Ye haue seene that I haue talked with you from heauen.
Et Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Tu parleras ainsi aux enfants d’Israël: vous avez vu que je vous ai parlé du ciel.
23 Ye shall not make therefore with me gods of siluer, nor gods of golde: you shall make you none.
Vous ne ferez point à côté de moi de dieux d’argent et vous ne ferez point de dieux d’or.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make vnto me, and thereon shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheepe, and thine oxen: in all places, where I shall put the remembrance of my Name, I will come vnto thee, and blesse thee.
Tu m’élèveras un autel de terre, sur lequel tu offriras tes holocaustes et tes sacrifices pacifiques, tes brebis et tes bœufs. Dans tous les lieux où j’aurai fait souvenir de mon nom, je viendrai vers toi, et je te bénirai.
25 But if thou wilt make mee an altar of stone, thou shalt not buylde it of hewen stones: for if thou lift vp thy toole vpon them, thou hast polluted them.
Si tu m’élèves un autel de pierre, tu ne le construiras point en pierres taillées, car, en levant ton ciseau sur la pierre, tu la rendrais profane.
26 Neither shalt thou goe vp by steppes vnto mine altar, that thy filthines be not discouered thereon.
Tu ne monteras point par des degrés à mon autel, afin que ta nudité n’y soit pas découverte.
