Exodus 2
1 Then there went a man of the house of Leui, and tooke to wife a daughter of Leui,
Et un homme de la maison de Lévi était allé se marier avec une fille de la maison de Lévi.
2 And the woman coceiued and bare a sonne: and when she saw that he was faire, she hid him three moneths.
Et cette femme devint enceinte, et eut un fils; et voyant qu'il était beau, elle le cacha pendant trois mois.
3 But when she could no longer hide him, she tooke for him an arke made of reede, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and laide the childe therein, and put it among the bulrushes by the riuers brinke.
Mais ne pouvant le tenir caché plus longtemps elle prit un batelet de jonc qu'elle enduisit de poix et de résine et elle y plaça l'enfant et elle l'exposa dans les roseaux au bord du Nil.
4 Now his sister stood a farre off, to wit what would come of him.
Et la sœur de l'enfant se posta à distance pour observer ce qui lui arriverait.
5 Then ye daughter of Pharaoh came downe to wash her in the riuer, and her maidens walked by the riuers side: and when shee sawe the arke among the bulrushes, she sent her maide to fet it.
Et la fille de Pharaon descendit pour se baigner dans le Nil. Or ses femmes marchaient le long du fleuve; et elle aperçut le batelet au milieu des roseaux, et elle envoya sa suivante pour le prendre.
6 Then she opened it, and sawe it was a childe: and beholde, the babe wept: so she had compassion on it, and sayde, This is one of the Ebrewes children.
Et l'ayant découvert elle vit un enfant, et voici, c'était un petit garçon qui pleurait; et elle eut pitié de lui et dit: C'est l'un des enfants des Hébreux.
7 Then said his sister vnto Pharaohs daughter, Shall I go and cal vnto thee a nurce of the Ebrew women to nurce thee the childe?
Alors la sœur dit à la fille de Pharaon: Irai-je te chercher une nourrice parmi les femmes des Hébreux pour allaiter l'enfant?
8 And Pharaohs daughter sayde to her, Goe. So the maide went and called the childes mother,
Et la fille de Pharaon lui dit: Va. Et la jeune fille alla chercher la mère de l'enfant.
9 To whome Pharaohs daughter sayde, Take this childe away, and nurce it for me, and I wil reward thee. Then the woman tooke the childe and nurced him.
Et la fille de Pharaon lui dit: Emporte cet enfant, et allaite-le pour moi, et je te donnerai ton salaire. Alors la femme emporta l'enfant et l'allaita.
10 Nowe the childe grewe, and she brought him vnto Pharaohs daughter, and he was as her sonne, and she called his name Moses, because, said she, I drewe him out of the water.
Et lorsque l'enfant eut grandi, elle l'amena à la fille de Pharaon, et il fut pour elle un fils, et elle lui donna le nom de Moïse, et dit: C'est que je l'ai retiré des eaux.
11 And in those dayes, when Moses was growen, he went forth vnto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: also he sawe an Egyptian smiting an Ebrewe one of his brethren.
Et à cette époque-là, comme Moïse était adulte, il alla visiter ses frères, et fut témoin de leurs charges, et il vit un Égyptien battre un Hébreu, l'un de ses frères.
12 And he looked rounde about, and when he sawe no man, hee slewe the Egyptian, and hid him in the sande.
Et il regarda de côté et d'autre, et voyant qu'il n'y avait personne, il fit tomber sous ses coups l'Égyptien et l'enfouit dans le sable.
13 Againe he came forth the second day, and behold, two Ebrewes stroue: and he said vnto him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellowe?
Et le lendemain il sortit, et voilà que deux Hébreux se querellaient, et il dit à celui qui avait tort: Pourquoi frappes-tu ton prochain?
14 And hee answered, Who made thee a man of authoritie, and a iudge ouer vs? Thinkest thou to kill mee, as thou killedst the Egyptian? Then Moses feared and sayde, Certainly this thing is knowen.
Et il répondit: Qui t'a préposé sur nous comme supérieur et juge? Penses-tu à me tuer, comme tu as tué l'Égyptien? Alors Moïse eut peur et dit: Certainement le fait est connu.
15 Now Pharaoh heard this matter, and sought to slay Moses: therefore Moses fled from Pharaoh, and dwelt in the lande of Midian, and hee sate downe by a well.
Et Pharaon ouït parler du fait, et il cherchait à faire mourir Moïse. Mais Moïse s'enfuit de devant Pharaon, et il se fixa au pays de Madian, demeurant près de la fontaine.
16 And the Priest of Midian had seue daughters, which came and drewe water, and filled the troghes, for to water their fathers sheepe.
Or le prêtre de Madian avait sept filles, et elles venaient puiser de l'eau et emplir les auges pour abreuver les brebis de leur père.
17 Then the shepherds came and droue them away: but Moses rose vp and defended them, and watered their sheepe.
Et les bergers arrivèrent et les chassèrent; mais Moïse se leva, et leur prêta secours et abreuva leurs brebis.
18 And whe they came to Reuel their father, he said, Howe are ye come so soone to day?
Et quand elles furent de retour auprès de Reguel, leur père, il leur demanda: Pourquoi venez-vous si tôt aujourd'hui?
19 And they saide, A man of Egypt deliuered vs from the hand of the shepherdes, and also drew vs water ynough, and watered the sheepe.
Et elles répondirent: Un Égyptien nous a sauvées des mains des bergers, et même il a puisé l'eau pour nous, et abreuvé les brebis.
20 Then he saide vnto his daughters, And where is he? why haue ye so left the man? call him that he may eate bread.
Et il dit à ses filles: Mais où est-il? Pourquoi avez-vous laissé là cet homme? Invitez-le à manger le pain!
21 And Moses agreed to dwell with the man: who gaue vnto Moses Zipporah his daughter:
Et Moïse consentit à demeurer chez cet homme, qui lui donna Tsippora, sa fille, en mariage.
22 And she bare a sonne, whose name he called Gershom: for he said, I haue bene a stranger in a strange lande.
Et elle enfanta un fils, et il l'appela du nom de Gersom (hôte), car il dit: Je suis hôte en pays étranger.
23 Then in processe of time, the King of Egypt dyed, and the children of Israel sighed for the bondage and cryed: and their crie for the bondage came vp vnto God.
Et longtemps après, le roi d'Egypte mourut, et les enfants d'Israël gémissaient sous la servitude et poussaient des cris, et leurs cris, excités par la servitude, arrivèrent jusqu'à Dieu.
24 Then God heard their mone, and God remembred his couenant with Abraham, Izhak, and Iaakob.
Et Dieu écouta leurs gémissements et se rappela son alliance avec Abraham, avec Isaac et avec Jacob.
25 So God looked vpon the children of Israel, and God had respect vnto them.
Et Dieu voyait les enfants d'Israël et Il était sachant.
