Exodus 2
1 Then there went a man of the house of Leui, and tooke to wife a daughter of Leui,
Or un homme de la maison de Lévi s'en alla, et prit une fille de Lévi.
2 And the woman coceiued and bare a sonne: and when she saw that he was faire, she hid him three moneths.
Laquelle conçut et enfanta un fils, et voyant qu'il était beau, elle le cacha pendant trois mois.
3 But when she could no longer hide him, she tooke for him an arke made of reede, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and laide the childe therein, and put it among the bulrushes by the riuers brinke.
Mais ne le pouvant tenir caché plus longtemps, elle prit un coffret de joncs, et l'enduisit de bitume et de poix, et mit l'enfant dedans, et le posa parmi des roseaux sur le bord du fleuve.
4 Now his sister stood a farre off, to wit what would come of him.
Et la sœur de cet [enfant] se tenait loin pour savoir ce qu'il en arriverait.
5 Then ye daughter of Pharaoh came downe to wash her in the riuer, and her maidens walked by the riuers side: and when shee sawe the arke among the bulrushes, she sent her maide to fet it.
Or la fille de Pharaon descendit à la rivière, pour se baigner, et ses filles se promenaient sur le bord de la rivière, et ayant vu le coffret au milieu des roseaux, elle envoya une de ses servantes pour le prendre.
6 Then she opened it, and sawe it was a childe: and beholde, the babe wept: so she had compassion on it, and sayde, This is one of the Ebrewes children.
Et l'ayant ouvert, elle vit l'enfant, et voici, l'enfant pleurait; et elle en fut touchée de compassion, et dit: c'est un des enfants de ces Hébreux.
7 Then said his sister vnto Pharaohs daughter, Shall I go and cal vnto thee a nurce of the Ebrew women to nurce thee the childe?
Alors la sœur [de l'enfant] dit à la fille de Pharaon: irai-je appeler une femme d'entre les Hébreues, qui allaite, et elle t'allaitera cet enfant?
8 And Pharaohs daughter sayde to her, Goe. So the maide went and called the childes mother,
Et la fille de Pharaon lui répondit: Va; et la jeune fille s'en alla, et appela la mère de l'enfant.
9 To whome Pharaohs daughter sayde, Take this childe away, and nurce it for me, and I wil reward thee. Then the woman tooke the childe and nurced him.
Et la fille de Pharaon lui dit: emporte cet enfant, et me l'allaite, et je te donnerai ton salaire; et la femme prit l'enfant et l'allaita.
10 Nowe the childe grewe, and she brought him vnto Pharaohs daughter, and he was as her sonne, and she called his name Moses, because, said she, I drewe him out of the water.
Et quand l'enfant fut devenu grand, elle l'amena à la fille de Pharaon; et il lui fut pour fils, et elle le nomma Moïse; parce que, dit-elle, je l'ai tiré des eaux.
11 And in those dayes, when Moses was growen, he went forth vnto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: also he sawe an Egyptian smiting an Ebrewe one of his brethren.
Or il arriva, en ce temps-là, que Moïse, étant devenu grand, sortit vers ses frères, et vit leurs travaux; il vit aussi un Egyptien qui frappait un Hébreu d'entre ses frères.
12 And he looked rounde about, and when he sawe no man, hee slewe the Egyptian, and hid him in the sande.
Et ayant regardé çà et là, et voyant qu'il n'y avait personne, il tua l'Egyptien, et le cacha dans le sable.
13 Againe he came forth the second day, and behold, two Ebrewes stroue: and he said vnto him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellowe?
Il sortit encore le second jour, et voici, deux hommes Hébreux se querellaient; et il dit à celui qui avait tort: pourquoi frappes-tu ton prochain?
14 And hee answered, Who made thee a man of authoritie, and a iudge ouer vs? Thinkest thou to kill mee, as thou killedst the Egyptian? Then Moses feared and sayde, Certainly this thing is knowen.
Lequel répondit: qui t'a établi Prince et Juge sur nous? veux-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué l'Egyptien? et Moïse craignit, et dit: certainement le fait est connu.
15 Now Pharaoh heard this matter, and sought to slay Moses: therefore Moses fled from Pharaoh, and dwelt in the lande of Midian, and hee sate downe by a well.
Or Pharaon ayant appris ce fait-là, chercha de faire mourir Moïse, mais Moïse s'enfuit de devant Pharaon, et s'arrêta au pays de Madian, et s'assit près d'un puits.
16 And the Priest of Midian had seue daughters, which came and drewe water, and filled the troghes, for to water their fathers sheepe.
Or le Sacrificateur de Madian avait sept filles, qui vinrent puiser de l'eau, et elles emplirent les auges pour abreuver le troupeau de leur père.
17 Then the shepherds came and droue them away: but Moses rose vp and defended them, and watered their sheepe.
Mais des bergers survinrent, qui les chassèrent; et Moïse se leva et les secourut, et abreuva leur troupeau.
18 And whe they came to Reuel their father, he said, Howe are ye come so soone to day?
Et quand elles furent revenues chez Réhuel leur père, il leur dit: comment êtes-vous revenues sitôt aujourd'hui?
19 And they saide, A man of Egypt deliuered vs from the hand of the shepherdes, and also drew vs water ynough, and watered the sheepe.
Elles répondirent: un homme Egyptien nous a délivrées de la main des bergers; et même il nous a puisé abondamment de l'eau, et a abreuvé le troupeau.
20 Then he saide vnto his daughters, And where is he? why haue ye so left the man? call him that he may eate bread.
Et il dit à ses filles: où est-il? pourquoi avez-vous ainsi laissé cet homme? appelez-le, et qu'il mange du pain.
21 And Moses agreed to dwell with the man: who gaue vnto Moses Zipporah his daughter:
Et Moïse s'accorda de demeurer avec cet homme-là, qui donna Séphora sa fille à Moïse.
22 And she bare a sonne, whose name he called Gershom: for he said, I haue bene a stranger in a strange lande.
Et elle enfanta un fils, et il le nomma Guersom; à cause, dit-il, que j'ai séjourné dans un pays étranger.
23 Then in processe of time, the King of Egypt dyed, and the children of Israel sighed for the bondage and cryed: and their crie for the bondage came vp vnto God.
Or il arriva longtemps après, que le Roi d'Egypte mourut, et les enfants d'Israël soupirèrent à cause de la servitude, et ils crièrent; et leur cri monta jusqu'à Dieu, à cause de la servitude.
24 Then God heard their mone, and God remembred his couenant with Abraham, Izhak, and Iaakob.
Dieu donc ouït leurs sanglots, et Dieu se souvint de l'alliance qu'il avait traitée avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.
25 So God looked vpon the children of Israel, and God had respect vnto them.
Ainsi Dieu regarda les enfants d'Israël, et il fit attention à leur état.
