Exodus 18

1 When Iethro the Priest of Midian Moses father in lawe heard all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and howe the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt,

Y oyó Jetro sacerdote de Madián, suegro de Moisés, todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con Moisés, y con Israel su pueblo, como Jehová había sacado a Israel de Egipto:

2 Then Iethro the father in lawe of Moses, tooke Zipporah Moses wife, (after he had sent her away)

Y tomó Jetro, suegro de Moisés, a Séfora la mujer de Moisés, después que él la envió:

3 And her two sonnes, (whereof the one was called Gershom: for he sayd, I haue bene an aliant in a strange land:

Y a sus dos hijos, el uno se llamaba Gersom; porque dijo: Peregrino he sido en tierra ajena;

4 And the name of the other was Eliezer: for the God of my father, said he, was mine helpe, and deliuered me from the sword of Pharaoh)

Y el otro se llamaba Eliezer, porque dijo: El Dios de mi padre me ayudó; y me escapó de la espada de Faraón.

5 And Iethro Moses father in law came with his two sonnes, and his wife vnto Moses into the wildernes, where he camped by ye mout of God.

Y llegó Jetro, el suegro de Moisés, y sus hijos, y su mujer, a Moisés en el desierto, donde tenía el campo, al monte de Dios.

6 And he said to Moses, I thy father in law Iethro am come to thee, and thy wife and her two sonnes with her.

Y dijo a Moisés: Yo tu suegro Jetro vengo a ti, y tu mujer, y sus dos hijos con ella.

7 And Moses went out to meete his father in law, and did obeisance and kissed him, and eche asked other of his welfare: and they came into the tent.

Y Moisés salió a recibir a su suegro, e inclinóse, y besóle: y preguntáronse el uno al otro como estaban; y vinieron a la tienda.

8 Then Moses told his father in law all that the Lord had done vnto Pharaoh, and to the Egyptians for Israels sake, and all the trauaile that had come vnto them by the way, and howe the Lord deliuered them.

Y Moisés contó a su suegro todas las cosas que Jehová había hecho a Faraón y a los Egipcios por causa de Israel; y todo el trabajo que habían pasado en el camino, y como los había librado Jehová.

9 And Iethro reioyced at all the goodnesse, which the Lord had shewed to Israel, and because he had deliuered them out of the hande of the Egyptians.

Y alegróse Jetro de todo el bien, que Jehová había hecho a Israel, que le había escapado de mano de los Egipcios.

10 Therfore Iethro sayd, Blessed be the Lord who hath deliuered you out of the hande of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh: who hath also deliuered the people from vnder the hand of the Egyptians.

Y Jetro dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, que os escapó de mano de los Egipcios, y de la mano de Faraón, que escapó al pueblo de la mano de los Egipcios.

11 Now I know that the Lord is greater then all the gods: for as they haue dealt proudly with them, so are they recompensed.

Ahora conozco que Jehová es grande más que todos los dioses; porque en lo que se ensoberbecieron contra ellos, los castigó.

12 Then Iethro Moses father in lawe tooke burnt offerings and sacrifices to offer vnto God. And Aaron and all the Elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses father in law before God.

Y tomó Jetro, el suegro de Moisés, holocausto y sacrificios para Dios: y vino Aarón, y todos los ancianos de Israel a comer pan con el suegro de Moisés delante de Dios.

13 Now on the morow, when Moses sate to iudge the people, the people stoode about Moses from morning vnto euen.

Y aconteció, que otro día Moisés se asentó a juzgar al pueblo; y el pueblo estuvo sobre Moisés desde la mañana hasta la tarde.

14 And when Moses father in law saw all that he did to the people, he sayde, What is this that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thy selfe alone, and all the people stande about thee from morning vnto euen?

Y viendo el suegro de Moisés todo lo que él hacía con el pueblo, dijo: ¿Qué es esto que haces tú con el pueblo? ¿Por qué te sientas tú solo, y todo el pueblo está sobre ti desde la mañana hasta la tarde?

15 And Moses sayd vnto his father in law, Because the people come vnto me to seeke God.

Y Moisés respondió a su suegro: Porque el pueblo viene a mí para consultar a Dios:

16 When they haue a matter, they come vnto me, and I iudge betweene one and another, and declare the ordinances of God, and his lawes.

Cuando tienen negocios, y vienen a mí, y yo juzgo entre el uno y el otro, y declaro las ordenanzas de Dios, y sus leyes.

17 But Moses father in law said vnto him, The thing which thou doest, is not well.

Entonces el suegro de Moisés le dijo: No haces bien:

18 Thou both weariest thy selfe greatly, and this people that is with thee: for the thing is too heauie for thee: thou art not able to doe it thy selfe alone.

Desfallecerás del todo tú y también este pueblo que está contigo; porque el negocio es más pesado que tú; no podrás hacerlo tú solo.

19 Heare nowe my voyce, (I will giue thee counsell, and God shalbe with thee) be thou for the people to Godwarde, and report thou the causes vnto God,

Oye ahora mi voz, yo te aconsejaré, y Dios será contigo. Está tú por el pueblo delante de Dios, y trata tú los negocios con Dios:

20 And admonish them of the ordinances, and of the lawes, and shew them the way, wherein they must walke, and the worke that they must do.

Y enséñales las ordenanzas y las leyes, y muéstrales el camino por donde anden, y lo que han de hacer.

21 Moreouer, prouide thou among al the people men of courage, fearing God, men dealing truely, hating couetousnesse: and appoynt such ouer them to be rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes.

Y tú proveerás de todo el pueblo varones de virtud, temerosos de Dios, varones de verdad, que aborrezcan la avaricia; y pondrás sobre ellos príncipes sobre mil, sobre ciento, sobre cincuenta, y sobre diez:

22 And let them iudge the people at all seasons: but euery great matter let them bring vnto thee, and let them iudge all small causes: so shall it be easier for thee, when they shall beare the burden with thee.

Los cuales juzgarán al pueblo en todo tiempo: y será, que todo negocio grave te traerán a ti, y todo negocio pequeño juzgarán ellos; y alivia la carga de sobre ti, y llevarla han contigo.

23 If thou do this thing, (and God so command thee) both thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go quietly to their place.

Si esto hicieres, y lo que Dios te mandare, tú podrás estar, y todo este pueblo también se irá en paz a su lugar.

24 So Moses obeyed the voyce of his father in law, and did all that he had sayd:

Entonces Moisés oyó la voz de su suegro, e hizo todo lo que él dijo.

25 And Moses chose men of courage out of all Israel, and made them heads ouer the people, rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes.

Y escogió Moisés varones de virtud de todo Israel, y púsolos por cabezas sobre el pueblo, príncipes sobre mil, sobre ciento, sobre cincuenta, y sobre diez;

26 And they iudged the people at all seasons, but they brought the hard causes vnto Moses: for they iudged all small matters themselues.

Los cuales juzgaban al pueblo en todo tiempo: el negocio arduo traíanlo a Moisés, y todo negocio pequeño juzgaban ellos.

27 Afterward Moses let his father in law depart, and he went into his countrey.

Y despidió Moisés a su suegro, y fuése a su tierra.
