Exodus 18
1 When Iethro the Priest of Midian Moses father in lawe heard all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and howe the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt,
Ja Jetro Midianin pappi, Moseksen appi kuuli kaikki, mitä Jumala Mosekselle ja Israelin kansalle oli tehnyt: että Herra oli johdattanut Israelin pois Egyptistä.
2 Then Iethro the father in lawe of Moses, tooke Zipporah Moses wife, (after he had sent her away)
Ja Jetro Moseksen appi otti Ziporan Moseksen emännän, jonka hän oli takaperin lähettänyt,
3 And her two sonnes, (whereof the one was called Gershom: for he sayd, I haue bene an aliant in a strange land:
Ja kaksi hänen poikaansa, joista yhden nimi oli Gersom, sillä hän sanoi: minä olin muukalainen vieraalla maalla.
4 And the name of the other was Eliezer: for the God of my father, said he, was mine helpe, and deliuered me from the sword of Pharaoh)
Ja toisen nimi oli Elieser, sillä (hän sanoi) minun isäni Jumala on ollut minun apuni, ja on pelastanut minun Pharaon miekasta.
5 And Iethro Moses father in law came with his two sonnes, and his wife vnto Moses into the wildernes, where he camped by ye mout of God.
Niin Jetro Moseksen appi, ja hänen poikansa, ja hänen emäntänsä tulivat Moseksen tykö siihen korpeen, kussa hän itsensä sioittanut oli Jumalan vuorella.
6 And he said to Moses, I thy father in law Iethro am come to thee, and thy wife and her two sonnes with her.
Ja antoi sanoa Mosekselle: minä Jetro sinun appes olen tullut sinun tykös, ja sinun emäntäs, ja molemmat hänen poikansa hänen kanssansa.
7 And Moses went out to meete his father in law, and did obeisance and kissed him, and eche asked other of his welfare: and they came into the tent.
Niin meni Moses appeansa vastaan, kumarsi itsensä, ja suuta antoi hänen; ja koska he olivat tervehtineet toinen toistansa, menivät he majaan.
8 Then Moses told his father in law all that the Lord had done vnto Pharaoh, and to the Egyptians for Israels sake, and all the trauaile that had come vnto them by the way, and howe the Lord deliuered them.
Niin jutteli Moses apellensa kaikki, mitä Herra tehnyt oli Pharaolle, ja Egyptiläisille Israelin tähden, ja kaiken sen vaivan joka heillä tiellä oli ollut, ja että Herra oli auttanut heitä.
9 And Iethro reioyced at all the goodnesse, which the Lord had shewed to Israel, and because he had deliuered them out of the hande of the Egyptians.
Ja Jetro riemuitsi kaiken sen hyvyyden ylitse, jonka Herra oli tehnyt Israelille, että hän oli pelastanut heitä Egyptiläisten kädestä.
10 Therfore Iethro sayd, Blessed be the Lord who hath deliuered you out of the hande of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh: who hath also deliuered the people from vnder the hand of the Egyptians.
Ja Jetro sanoi: kiitetty olkoon Herra, joka teidät pelastanut on Egyptiläisten ja Pharaon kädestä: joka on vapahtanut kansansa Egyptiläisten käden alta.
11 Now I know that the Lord is greater then all the gods: for as they haue dealt proudly with them, so are they recompensed.
Nyt minä tiedän, että Herra on suurempi kuin kaikki Jumalat; sillä siinä asiassa, jossa ylpeilivät, oli hän heidän ylitsensä (valtias).
12 Then Iethro Moses father in lawe tooke burnt offerings and sacrifices to offer vnto God. And Aaron and all the Elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses father in law before God.
Ja Jetro Moseksen appi otti polttouhria ja muuta uhria Jumalalle. Niin tuli Aaron ja kaikki vanhimmat Israelista syömään leipää Moseksen apen kanssa Jumalan edessä.
13 Now on the morow, when Moses sate to iudge the people, the people stoode about Moses from morning vnto euen.
Ja tapahtui toisena päivänä, että Moses istui oikeutta tekemään kansalle; ja kansa seisoi Moseksen ympärillä aamusta niin ehtooseen asti.
14 And when Moses father in law saw all that he did to the people, he sayde, What is this that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thy selfe alone, and all the people stande about thee from morning vnto euen?
Koska Moseksen appi näki kaikki, mitä hän teki kansalle, sanoi hän: mikä tämä on kuin sinä teet kansalle? Miksis sinä istut yksinäs, ja kaikki kansa seisoo sinun edessäs, hamasta aamusta niin ehtooseen?
15 And Moses sayd vnto his father in law, Because the people come vnto me to seeke God.
Moses vastasi appeansa: sillä kansa tulee minun tyköni, ja kysyy Jumalalta neuvoa.
16 When they haue a matter, they come vnto me, and I iudge betweene one and another, and declare the ordinances of God, and his lawes.
Koska heillä on jotakin asiaa, tulevat he minun tyköni, että minun pitää oikeutta tekemän jokaisen välillä ja hänen lähimmäisensä välillä, ja osottaman heille Jumalan oikeudet ja käskyt.
17 But Moses father in law said vnto him, The thing which thou doest, is not well.
Ja Moseksen appi sanoi hänelle: ei se ole hyvä kuin sinä teet.
18 Thou both weariest thy selfe greatly, and this people that is with thee: for the thing is too heauie for thee: thou art not able to doe it thy selfe alone.
Sinä väsytät peräti sekä itses että tämän kansan joka sinun kanssas on; sillä tämä asia on sinulle ylen raskas, et taida sinä sitä yksinäs toimittaa.
19 Heare nowe my voyce, (I will giue thee counsell, and God shalbe with thee) be thou for the people to Godwarde, and report thou the causes vnto God,
Nyt kuule minun ääneni, minä neuvon sinua, ja Jumala on sinun kanssas. Ole sinä kansan puolesta Jumalan edessä, ja tuota heidän asiansa Jumalan eteen.
20 And admonish them of the ordinances, and of the lawes, and shew them the way, wherein they must walke, and the worke that they must do.
Ja muistuta heille oikeudet ja käskyt: osota heille tie, jota heidän vaeltaman pitää, ja ne työt mitkä heidän tekemän pitää.
21 Moreouer, prouide thou among al the people men of courage, fearing God, men dealing truely, hating couetousnesse: and appoynt such ouer them to be rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes.
Niin etsi sinä kaiken kansan seasta vaat miehet, Jumalaa pelkääväiset, totuuden miehet, ne jotka ahneutta vihaavat: ja aseta ne heille päämiehiksi, tuhanten päälle, sadan päälle, viidenkymmenen päälle, ja kymmenen päälle,
22 And let them iudge the people at all seasons: but euery great matter let them bring vnto thee, and let them iudge all small causes: so shall it be easier for thee, when they shall beare the burden with thee.
Että ne aina kansalle oikeuden tekisivät: mutta kuin joku raskas asia tulee, että he sen tuovat sinun eteesi mutta kaikki pienet asiat he itse ratkaiskaan: niin huojenna jotakin itseltäs, ja he kantavat kuormaa sinun kanssas.
23 If thou do this thing, (and God so command thee) both thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go quietly to their place.
Jos sinä sen teet, ja Jumala sen sinulle käskee, niin sinä taidat voimassa pysyä, niin myös kaikki tämä kansa saa mennä kotiansa rauhassa.
24 So Moses obeyed the voyce of his father in law, and did all that he had sayd:
Ja Moses kuuli appensa äänen, ja teki kaikki mitä hän sanoi.
25 And Moses chose men of courage out of all Israel, and made them heads ouer the people, rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes.
Ja valitsi vaat miehet kaikesta Israelista, ja asetti heidät kansan päämiehiksi, tuhanten päälle, sadan päälle, viidenkymmenen päälle, ja kymmenen päälle,
26 And they iudged the people at all seasons, but they brought the hard causes vnto Moses: for they iudged all small matters themselues.
Jotka tekivät kansalle oikeuden joka aika. Mutta jotka raskaat asiat olivat, lykkäsivät he Moseksen alle; vaan kaikki pienet asiat he itse ratkasivat.
27 Afterward Moses let his father in law depart, and he went into his countrey.
Niin Moses antoi appensa mennä ja hän meni omalle maallensa.
