Exodus 16
1 Afterward all the Congregation of the children of Israel departed from Elim, and came to the wildernes of Sin, (which is betweene Elim and Sinai) the fiftenth day of the second moneth after their departing out of ye land of Egypt.
Et ils partirent d'Elim, et toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël arriva au désert de Sin qui est entre Elim et Sinaï, le quinzième jour du second mois depuis leur sortie du pays d'Egypte.
2 And the whole Congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wildernesse.
Et toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël murmura contre Moïse et Aaron dans le désert,
3 For the children of Israel sayde to them, Oh that we had dyed by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when wee sate by the flesh pots, when wee ate bread our bellies full: for yee haue brought vs out into this wildernesse, to kill this whole company with famine.
et les enfants d'Israël leur dirent: Que n'avons-nous péri sous la main de l'Éternel au pays d'Egypte, quand nous étions assis à côté des marmites de viande, quand nous mangions du pain à rassasiement? car vous nous avez entraînés dans ce désert pour faire mourir de faim toute cette assemblée.
4 Then sayd the Lord vnto Moses, Behold, I wil cause bread to rayne from heauen to you, and the people shall goe out, and gather that that is sufficient for euery day, that I may proue them, whether they wil walke in my Law or no.
Alors l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Voici, je vais vous envoyer du ciel une pluie de pain, et le peuple sortira et en recueillera chaque jour l'ordinaire du jour, afin que j'éprouve s'il suit ou non ma loi.
5 But the sixt daye they shall prepare that, which they shall bring home, and it shalbe twise as much as they gather dayly.
Et le sixième jour ils serreront ce qu'ils rapporteront et il y aura le double de la récolte quotidienne.
6 Then Moses and Aaron sayde vnto all the children of Israel, At euen ye shall know, that the Lord brought you out of the land of Egypt:
Et Moïse et Aaron dirent à tous les enfants d'Israël: Ce soir vous comprendrez que c'est l'Éternel qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte.
7 And in the morning ye shall see the glorie of the Lord: for he hath heard your grudgings against the Lord: and what are we that ye haue murmured against vs?
Et au matin vous verrez la gloire de l'Éternel parce qu'il a entendu vos murmures contre l'Éternel; car que sommes-nous pour que vous murmuriez contre nous?
8 Againe Moses sayd, At euen shall the Lord giue you flesh to eate, and in the morning your fil of bread: for the Lord hath heard your murmurings, which ye murmure against him: for what are we? your murmurings are not against vs, but against the Lord.
Et Moïse dit: En effet, ce soir l'Éternel vous fournira de la chair pour nourriture et au matin du pain à rassasiement, l'Éternel qui a entendu les murmures que vous élevez contre lui; car nous-mêmes que sommes-nous? C'est non pas à nous que s'adressent vos murmures, mais à l'Éternel.
9 And Moses sayd to Aaron, Say vnto all the Congregation of the children of Israel, Draw neere before the Lord: for he hath heard your murmurings.
Et Moïse dit à Aaron: Dis à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël: Présentez-vous devant l'Éternel, car Il a entendu vos murmures.
10 Now as Aaron spake vnto the whole Congregation of the children of Israel, they looked toward the wildernesse, and beholde, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloude.
Et comme Aaron parlait à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, ils se tournèrent du côté du désert, et voici la gloire de l'Éternel apparut dans la nue.
11 (For the Lord had spoken vnto Moses, saying,
Et l'Éternel parlant à Moïse dit:
12 I haue heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: tell them therefore, and say, At euen ye shall eate flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread, and ye shall knowe that I am the Lord your God)
J'ai entendu les murmures des enfants d'Israël; parle-leur en ces termes: Dans la soirée vous mangerez de la chair, et au matin vous vous rassasierez de pain, et vous comprendrez que je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
13 And so at euen the quailes came and couered the campe: and in the morning the dewe lay round about the hoste.
Et le soir il surgit un vol de cailles qui couvrirent le camp, et le matin il y eut une couche de rosée autour du camp.
14 And when the dewe that was fallen was ascended, beholde, a small round thing was vpon the face of the wildernes, small as the hoare frost on the earth.
Et quand la couche de rosée eut disparu, il y avait à la superficie du désert une matière menue, en forme d'écailles, menue comme le givre qui couvre la terre.
15 And when the children of Israel sawe it, they sayde one to another, It is MAN, for they wist not what it was. And Moses sayd vnto them, This is the breade which the Lord hath giuen you to eate.
Et à cette vue les enfants d'Israël se dirent l'un à l'autre: Qu'est-ce? Car ils ne savaient pas ce que c'était. Et Moïse leur dit: C'est le pain que l'Éternel vous donne pour nourriture.
16 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded: gather of it euery man according to his eating an Omer for a man according to the number of your persons: euery man shall take for them which are in his tent.
C'est à ce propos que l'Éternel vous a donné cet ordre: Recueillez-en chacun à proportion de ce qu'il mange, un homer par tête, selon le nombre de vos gens; et prenez-en chacun pour les personnes de sa tente.
17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some lesse.
Et ainsi firent les enfants d'Israël; ils ramassèrent les uns plus, les autres moins.
18 And when they did measure it with an Omer, hee that had gathered much, had nothing ouer, and he that had gathered litle, had no lacke: so euery man gathered according to his eating.
Et ils mesurèrent au homer de sorte que celui qui avait beaucoup ramassé, n'eut pas trop, et celui qui avait peu ramassé, pas trop peu; chacun prit à proportion de ce qu'il mangeait.
19 Moses then said vnto them, Let no man reserue thereof till morning.
Et Moïse leur dit: Que personne n'en garde des restes pour le lendemain.
20 Notwithstanding they obeyed not Moses: but some of them reserued of it till morning, and it was full of wormes, and stanke: therefore Moses was angrie with them.
Mais ils n'écoutèrent point Moïse, et il y en eut qui gardèrent des restes jusqu'au lendemain; et des vers y parurent, puis une odeur fétide.
21 And they gathered it euery morning, euery man according to his eating: for when the heate of the sunne came, it was melted.
Et Moïse se courrouça contre eux. Et tous les matins ils faisaient cette récolte proportionnée à ce que chacun mangeait; car le soleil devenu chaud, cela fondait.
22 And the sixt day they gathered twise so much bread, two Omers for one man: then all the rulers of the Congregation came and told Moses.
Et le sixième jour ils ramassèrent une double quantité de cet aliment, deux homers par personne.
23 And he answered them, This is that, which the Lord hath sayde, To morowe is the rest of the holy Sabbath vnto the Lord: bake that to day which ye wil bake, and seethe that which ye wil seethe, and all that remaineth, lay it vp to be kept till the morning for you.
Alors tous les princes de l'assemblée vinrent en informer Moïse. Et il leur dit: C'est ce qu'a prononcé l'Éternel: C'est demain le jour du repos, le saint sabbat de l'Éternel: boulangez ce que vous avez à boulanger, et cuisez ce que vous avez à cuire, et mettez tout le surplus en réserve jusqu'au lendemain.
24 And they laied it vp till the morning, as Moses bade, and it stanke not, neyther was there any worme therein.
Et ils le gardèrent jusqu'au lendemain conformément à l'ordre de Moïse, et il n'y eut ni fétidité, ni vers.
25 Then Moses sayde, Eate that to day: for to day is the Sabbath vnto the Lord: to day ye shall not finde it in the fielde.
Et Moïse dit: Mangez-le aujourd'hui, car ce jour est le sabbat de l'Éternel; aujourd'hui vous n'en trouverez point dans la campagne.
26 Sixe dayes shall yee gather it, but in the seuenth day is the Sabbath: in it there shalbe none.
Six jours vous ferez votre récolte, mais le septième jour est le sabbat, et il n'y aura rien.
27 Notwithstanding, there went out some of the people in ye seuenth day for to gather, and they found none.
Et il arriva le septième jour que quelques-uns du peuple sortirent pour faire la récolte, et ne trouvèrent rien.
28 And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Howe long refuse yee to keepe my commandements, and my lawes?
Alors l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Jusques à quand refuserez-vous d'observer mes ordres et mes lois?
29 Beholde, howe the Lord hath giuen you the Sabbath: therefore he giueth you the sixt day bread for two dayes: tary therefore euery man in his place: let no man goe out of his place the seuenth day.
Voyez, puisque l'Éternel vous accorde le jour du repos, Il vous accorde aussi au sixième jour la ration de deux jours. Restez donc chacun en place, que personne ne sorte de chez lui le septième jour.
30 So the people rested the seuenth day.
Le peuple chôma donc le septième jour.
31 And the house of Israel called the name of it, MAN. and it was like to coriander seede, but white: and the taste of it was like vnto wafers made with hony.
Et la maison d'Israël donna à cet aliment le nom de manne; or elle était comme la graine blanche de coriandre, et avait la douceur de gâteaux de miel.
32 And Moses said, This is that which the Lord hath commanded, Fill an Omer of it, to keepe it for your posteritie: that they may see the bread wherewith I haue fed you in wildernesse, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.
Et Moïse dit: Voici l'ordre qu'a donné l'Éternel: Qu'un homer plein en soit conservé pour vos générations futures, afin qu'elles voient l'aliment dont je vous nourris dans le désert, quand je vous retirai du pays d'Egypte.
33 Moses also said to Aaron, Take a pot and put an Omer full of MAN therein, and set it before the Lord to be kept for your posteritie.
Et Moïse dit à Aaron: Prends un vase et y mets un homer plein de manne, et dépose-le devant l'Éternel où il sera conservé pour vos races futures.
34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laied it vp before the Testimonie to be kept.
Ainsi que l'Éternel l'ordonnait à Moïse, Aaron le déposa devant le Témoignage pour être conservé.
35 And the children of Israel did eate MAN fourtie yeres, vntill they came vnto a land inhabited: they did eate MAN vntill they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.
Cependant les enfants d'Israël mangèrent de la manne pendant quarante ans, jusqu'à leur arrivée dans le pays habité; ils mangèrent la manne jusqu'à leur arrivée à la frontière du pays de Canaan.
36 The Omer is the tenth part of the Ephah.
Or le homer est la dixième partie de l'épha.
