Esther 7
1 So the King and Haman came to banket with the Queene Ester.
Il re e Haman andarono dunque al convito con la regina Ester.
2 And the King said againe vnto Ester on the second day at the banket of wine, What is thy petition, Queene Ester, that it may be giue thee? and what is thy request? It shalbe euen perfourmed vnto the halfe of the kingdome.
E il re anche questo secondo giorno disse a Ester, mentre si beveva il vino: “Qual è la tua richiesta, o regina Ester? Ti sarà concessa. Che desideri? Fosse anche la metà del regno, l’avrai”.
3 And Ester the Queene answered, and said, If I haue found fauour in thy sight, O King, and if it please the King, let my life be giuen me at my petition, and my people at my request.
Allora la regina Ester rispose dicendo: “Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, o re, e se così piace al re, la mia richiesta è che mi sia donata la vita; e il mio desiderio, che mi sia donato il mio popolo.
4 For we are solde, I, and my people, to be destroyed, to be slayne and to perish: but if we were solde for seruants, and for handmaides, I woulde haue helde my tongue: although the aduersarie could not recompense the Kings losse.
Perché io e il mio popolo siamo stati venduti per esser distrutti, uccisi, sterminati. Ora se fossimo stati venduti per diventare schiavi e schiave, mi sarei taciuta; ma il nostro avversario non potrebbe riparare al danno fatto al re con la nostra morte”.
5 Then King Ahashuerosh answered, and said vnto the Queene Ester, Who is he? and where is he that presumeth to doe thus?
Il re Assuero prese a dire alla regina Ester: “Chi è, e dov’è colui che ha tanta presunzione da far questo?”
6 And Ester said, The aduersarie and enemie is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afrayde before the King and the Queene.
Ester rispose: “L’avversario, il nemico, è quel malvagio di Haman”. Allora Haman fu preso da terrore in presenza del re e della regina.
7 And the King arose from ye banket of wine in his wrath, and went into the palace garden: but Haman stood vp, to make request for his life to the Queene Ester: for he sawe that there was a mischiefe prepared for him of the King.
E il re tutto adirato si alzò, e dal luogo del convito andò nel giardino del palazzo; ma Haman rimase per chieder la grazia della vita alla regina Ester, perché vedeva bene che nell’animo del re la sua rovina era decisa.
8 And when the King came againe out of the palace garden, into the house where they dranke wine, Haman was fallen vpon the bed whereon Ester sate! therefore the King sayd, Will he force the Queene also before me in the house? As the worde went out of the Kings mouth, they couered Hamans face.
Poi il re tornò dal giardino del palazzo nel luogo del convito; intanto Haman s’era gettato sul divano sul quale si trovava Ester; e il re esclamò: “Vuol egli anche far violenza alla regina, davanti a me, in casa mia?” Non appena questa parola fu uscita dalla bocca del re, copersero a Haman la faccia;
9 And Harbonah one of the eunuches, sayde in the presence of the King, Beholde, there standeth yet the tree in Hamans house fiftie cubites hie, which Haman had prepared for Mordecai, that spake good for the King. Then the King sayd, Hang him thereon.
e Harbona, uno degli eunuchi, disse in presenza del re: “Ecco, è perfino rizzata, in casa d’Haman, la forca alta cinquanta cubiti che Haman ha fatto preparare per Mardocheo, il quale avea parlato per il bene del re”. E il re disse: “Appiccatevi lui!”
10 So they hanged Haman on the tree, that he had prepared for Mordecai: then was the Kings wrath pacified.
Così Haman fu appiccato alla forca ch’egli avea preparata per Mardocheo. E l’ira del re si calmò.
