Esther 2
1 After these things, when the wrath of King Ahashuerosh was appeased, he remembred Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
Efter en tids förlopp, sedan konung Ahasveros' vrede hade lagt sig, tänkte han åter på Vasti och vad hon hade gjort, och vad som var beslutet om henne.
2 And the Kings seruants that ministred vnto him, sayd, Let them seeke for the King beautifull yong virgins,
Då sade konungens män som betjänade honom: "Må man för konungens räkning söka upp unga och fagra jungfrur,
3 And let the King appoynt officers through all the prouinces of his kingdome, and let them gather all the beautiful yong virgins vnto the palace of Shushan, into the house of the women, vnder the hand of Hege the Kings eunuche, keeper of the women, to giue them their things for purification.
och må konungen i sitt rikes alla hövdingdömen förordna vissa män som samla tillhopa alla dessa unga och fagra jungfrur till fruhuset i Susans borg och överlämna dem åt konungens hovman Hege, kvinnovaktaren, och man give dem vad nödigt är till deras beredelse.
4 And the mayde that shall please the King, let her reigne in the steade of Vashti. And this pleased the King, and he did so.
Och den kvinna som konungen finner behag i blive drottning i Vastis ställe." Detta tal behagade konungen, och han gjorde så.
5 In the citie of Shushan, there was a certaine Iewe, whose name was Mordecai the sonne of Iair, the sonne of Shimei, the sonne of Kish a man of Iemini,
I Susans borg fanns då en judisk man som hette Mordokai, son till Jair, son till Simei, son till Kis, en benjaminit;
6 Which had bene caryed away from Ierusalem with the captiuitie that was caryed away with Ieconiah King of Iudah (whom Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel had caryed away)
denne hade blivit bortförd från Jerusalem med de fångar som fördes bort tillsammans med Jekonja, Juda konung, när denne fördes bort av Nebukadnessar, konungen i Babel.
7 And he nourished Hadassah, that is Ester, his vncles daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the mayde was fayre, and beautifull to looke on: and after the death of her father, and her mother, Mordecai tooke her for his own daughter
Han var fosterfader åt Hadassa, som ock kallades Ester, hans farbroders dotter; ty hon hade varken fader eller moder. Hon var en flicka med skön gestalt, fager att skåda; och efter hennes faders och moders död hade Mordokai upptagit henne såsom sin egen dotter.
8 And when the Kings commandement, and his decree was published, and many maydes were brought together to the palace of Shushan, vnder the hand of Hege, Ester was brought also vnto the Kings house vnder the hande of Hege the keeper of the women.
Då nu konungens befallning och påbud blev kunnigt, och många unga kvinnor samlades tillhopa till Susans borg och överlämnades åt Hegai, blev ock Ester hämtad till konungshuset och överlämnad åt kvinnovaktaren Hegai.
9 And the mayde pleased him, and she founde fauour in his sight: therefore he caused her things for purification to be giuen her speedily, and her state, and seuen comely maides to be giuer her out of the Kings house, and he gaue change to her and to her maydes of the best in the house of the women.
Och flickan behagade honom och fann nåd inför honom; därför skyndade han att giva henne vad nödigt var till hennes beredelse, så ock den kost hon skulle hava, ävensom att giva henne från konungshuset de sju tärnor som utsågos åt henne. Och han lät henne med sina tärnor flytta in i den bästa delen av fruhuset.
10 But Ester shewed not her people and her kinred: for Mordecai had charged her, that shee should not tell it.
Men om sitt folk och sin släkt hade Ester icke yppat något, ty Mordokai hade förbjudit henne att yppa något därom.
11 Aud Mordecai walked euery day before the court of the womens house, to knowe if Ester did well, and what should be done with her.
Och Mordokai gick var dag fram och åter utanför gården till fruhuset, för att få veta huru det stod till med Ester, och vad som vederfors henne.
12 And when the course of euery mayd came, to go in to King Ahashuerosh, after that she had bene twelue moneths according to the maner of the women (for so were the dayes of their purifications accomplished, sixe moneths with oyle of myrrhe, and sixe moneths with sweete odours and in the purifying of the women:
Nu var det så, att när ordningen kom till den ena eller andra av de unga kvinnorna att gå in till konung Ahasveros, sedan med henne hade förfarits i tolv månader såsom det var påbjudet om kvinnorna (så lång tid åtgick nämligen till att bereda dem: sex månader med myrraolja och sex månader med välluktande kryddor och annat som var nödigt till kvinnornas beredelse),
13 And thus went the maides vnto the King) whatsoeuer she required, was giuen her, to go with her out of the womens house vnto ye kings house.
när alltså en kvinna gick in till konungen, då fick hon taga med sig ifrån fruhuset till konungshuset allt vad hon begärde.
14 In the euening she went, and on the morow she returned into the second house of the women vnder the hand of Shaashgaz the Kings eunuche, which kept the concubines: shee came in to the King no more, except shee pleased the King, and that she were called by name.
Och sedan hon om aftonen hade gått ditin, skulle hon om morgonen, när hon gick tillbaka, gå in i det andra fruhuset och överlämnas åt konungens hovman Saasgas, som hade vakten över bihustrurna. Hon fick sedan icke mer komma in till konungen, om icke konungen hade funnit sådant behag i henne, att hon uttryckligen blev kallad till honom.
15 Now when the course of Ester the daughter of Abihail the vncle of Mordecai (which had taken her as his owne daughter) came, that shee should go in to the King, she desired nothing, but what Hege the Kings eunuche the keeper of the women sayde: and Ester founde fauour in the sight of all them that looked vpon her.
Då nu ordningen att gå in till konungen kom till Ester, dotter till Abihail, farbroder till Mordokai, som hade upptagit henne till sin dotter, begärde hon intet annat än det som konungens hovman Hegai, kvinnovaktaren, rådde henne till. Och Ester fann nåd för allas ögon, som sågo henne.
16 So Ester was taken vnto King Ahashuerosh into his house royall in the tenth moneth, which is the moneth Tebeth, in the seuenth yeere of his reigne.
Ester blev hämtad till konung Ahasveros i hans kungliga palats i tionde månaden, det är månaden Tebet, i hans sjunde regeringsår.
17 And the King loued Ester aboue all the women, and shee founde grace and fauour in his sight more then all the virgins: so that he set the crowne of the kingdome vpon her head, and made her Queene instead of Vashti.
Och Ester blev konungen kärare än alla de andra kvinnorna, och hon fann nåd och ynnest inför honom mer än alla de andra jungfrurna, så att han satte en kunglig krona på hennes huvud och gjorde henne till drottning i Vastis ställe.
18 Then the King made a great feast vnto all his princes, and his seruants, which was the feast of Ester, and gaue rest vnto the prouinces, and gaue gifts, according to the power of a King.
Och konungen gjorde ett stort gästabud för alla sina furstar och tjänare, ett gästabud till Esters ära; och han beviljade skattelindring åt sina hövdingdömen och delade ut skänker, såsom det hövdes en konung.
19 And whe the virgins were gathered ye second time, then Mordecai sate in the Kings gate.
När sedermera jungfrur för andra gången samlades tillhopa och Mordokai satt i konungens port
20 Ester had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people, as Mordecai had charged her: for Ester did after the worde of Mordecai, as when she was nourished with him.
(men Ester hade, såsom Mordokai bjöd henne, icke yppat något om sin släkt och sitt folk, ty Ester gjorde efter Mordokais befallning, likasom när hon var under hans vård),
21 In those dayes whe Mordecai sate in the Kings gate, two of the Kings eunuches, Bigthan and Teresh, which kept the doore, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the King Ahashuerosh.
vid den tiden, under det att Mordokai satt i konungens port, blevo Bigetan och Teres, två av de hovmän hos konungen, som höllo vakt vid tröskeln, förbittrade på konung Ahasveros och sökte tillfälle att bära hand på honom.
22 And the thing was knowen to Mordecai, and he tolde it vnto Queene Ester, and Ester certified the King thereof in Mordecais name:
Härom fick Mordokai kunskap, och han berättade det för drottning Ester; därefter omtalade Ester det för konungen på Mordokais vägnar.
23 and when inquisition was made, it was found so: therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the booke of the Chronicles before the King.
Saken blev nu undersökt och så befunnen; och de blevo båda upphängda på trä. Och detta upptecknades i krönikan, för konungen.
