Ecclesiastes 1
1 The wordes of the Preacher, the sonne of Dauid King in Ierusalem.
Le parole del Predicatore, figliuolo di Davide, re in Gerusalemme.
2 Vanitie of vanities, sayth the Preacher: vanitie of vanities, all is vanitie.
VANITÀ delle vanità, dice il Predicatore; vanità delle vanità; ogni cosa [è] vanità.
3 What remaineth vnto man in all his trauaile, which he suffereth vnder ye sunne?
Che profitto ha l'uomo di tutta la sua fatica nella quale egli si affatica sotto il sole?
4 One generation passeth, and another generation succeedeth: but the earth remaineth for euer.
Una età va via, un'[altra] età viene; e la terra resta in perpetuo.
5 The sunne riseth, and ye sunne goeth downe, and draweth to his place, where he riseth.
Il sole si leva anch'esso, e poi tramonta; e, ansando, trae verso il luogo suo, ove egli si deve levare.
6 The winde goeth toward the South, and compasseth towarde the North: the winde goeth rounde about, and returneth by his circuites.
Il vento trae verso il Mezzodì, e poi gira verso il Settentrione; egli va sempre girando, e ritorna a' suoi giri.
7 All the riuers goe into the sea, yet the sea is not full: for the riuers goe vnto ye place, whence they returne, and goe.
Tutti i fiumi corrono nel mare, e il mare non s'empie; i fiumi ritornano [sempre] a correre al luogo dove sogliono correre.
8 All things are full of labour: man cannot vtter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the eare filled with hearing.
Ogni cosa si affatica [più che] l'uomo non può dire; l'occhio non si sazia giammai di vedere, e l'orecchio non si riempie di udire.
9 What is it that hath bene? that that shalbe: and what is it that hath bene done? that which shalbe done: and there is no newe thing vnder the sunne.
Quello che è stato è lo stesso che sarà; e quello che è stato fatto è lo stesso che si farà; e non [vi è] nulla di nuovo sotto il sole.
10 Is there any thing, whereof one may say, Beholde this, it is newe? it hath bene already in the olde time that was before vs.
Evvi cosa alcuna, della quale altri possa dire: Vedi questo, egli [è] nuovo? già è stato ne' secoli che sono stati avanti a noi.
11 There is no memorie of the former, neither shall there be a remembrance of the latter that shalbe, with them that shall come after.
Non [vi è] alcuna memoria delle cose che sono state innanzi; così ancora non vi sarà memoria delle cose che saranno nel tempo a venire, fra coloro che verranno appresso.
12 I the Preacher haue bene King ouer Israel in Ierusalem:
Io, il Predicatore, sono stato re sopra Israele, in Gerusalemme;
13 And I haue giuen mine heart to search and finde out wisdome by all things that are done vnder the heauen: (this sore trauaile hath GOD giuen to the sonnes of men, to humble them thereby)
ed ho recato il mio cuore a ricercare, e ad investigare, con sapienza, tutto ciò che si fa sotto il cielo; il che [è] una occupazione molesta, [la quale] Iddio ha data a' figliuoli degli uomini, per occuparvisi.
14 I haue considered all the workes that are done vnder the sunne, and beholde, all is vanitie, and vexation of the spirit.
Io ho vedute tutte le cose che si fanno sotto il sole; ed ecco, tutto ciò [è] vanità, e tormento di spirito.
15 That which is crooked, can none make straight: and that which faileth, cannot be nombred.
Le cose torte non si possono dirizzare; e i difetti non si possono annoverare.
16 I thought in mine heart, and said, Behold, I am become great, and excell in wisdome all them that haue bene before me in Ierusalem: and mine heart hath seene much wisedome and knowledge.
Io parlava nel cuor mio, dicendo: Ecco, io mi sono aggrandito, ed accresciuto in sapienza, più che tutti quelli che sono stati innanzi a me sopra Gerusalemme; e il cuor mio ha veduta molta sapienza e scienza;
17 And I gaue mine heart to knowe wisdome and knowledge, madnes and foolishnes: I knew also that this is a vexation of the spirit.
ed ho recato il mio cuore a conoscere la sapienza; ed anche a conoscere le pazzie e la stoltizia; [ed] ho riconosciuto che questo ancora è un tormento di spirito.
18 For in the multitude of wisedome is much griefe: and he that increaseth knowledge, increaseth sorowe.
Perciocchè, dove [è] molta sapienza, [vi è] molta molestia; e chi accresce la scienza accresce il dolore.
