Ecclesiastes 7
1 A good name is better then a good oyntment, and the day of death, then the day that one is borne.
Ein guter Name ist besser als Wohlgeruch, und der Tag des Todes ist besser als der Tag der Geburt.
2 It is better to goe to the house of mourning, then to goe to the house of feasting, because this is the ende of all men: and the liuing shall lay it to his heart.
Besser, man gehe ins Trauerhaus als ins Trinkhaus; denn dort ist das Ende aller Menschen, und der Lebendige nimmt es zu Herzen.
3 Anger is better then laughter: for by a sad looke the heart is made better.
Verdruß ist besser als Lachen; denn wenn das Angesicht traurig ist, so wird das Herz gebessert.
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning: but the heart of fooles is in the house of mirth.
Das Herz der Weisen ist im Trauerhaus; aber das Herz der Narren im Haus der Freude.
5 Better it is to heare ye rebuke of a wise man, then that a man should heare the song of fooles.
Es ist besser, man höre auf das Schelten des Weisen, als daß man lausche dem Gesang der Narren!
6 For like ye noyse of the thornes vnder the pot, so is the laughter of the foole: this also is vanitie.
Denn das Lachen des Narren ist wie das Knistern der Dornen unter dem Topf; es ist ebenso eitel!
7 Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad: and the rewarde destroyeth the heart.
Denn Gewalttätigkeit betört den Weisen, und Bestechung verderbt das Herz.
8 The ende of a thing is better then the beginning thereof, and the pacient in spirit is better then the proude in spirit.
Besser ist der Ausgang einer Sache als ihr Anfang, besser ein Langmütiger als ein Hochmütiger.
9 Be not thou of an hastie spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosome of fooles.
Laß dich nicht schnell zum Zorn und Ärger reizen; denn der Ärger wohnt im Busen der Toren.
10 Say not thou, Why is it that the former dayes were better then these? for thou doest not enquire wisely of this thing.
Sprich nicht: Wie kommt es, daß die frühern Tage besser waren als diese? Denn nicht aus Weisheit fragst du so!
11 Wisedome is good with an inheritance, and excellent to them that see the sunne.
Weisheit ist so gut wie ein Erbe und ein Vorteil für die, welche die Sonne sehen.
12 For man shall rest in the shadowe of wisedome, and in the shadowe of siluer: but the excellencie of the knowledge of wisedome giueth life to the possessers thereof.
Denn die Weisheit gewährt Schutz, und auch das Geld gewährt Schutz; aber der Vorzug der Erkenntnis ist der, daß die Weisheit ihrem Besitzer das Leben erhält.
13 Beholde the worke of God: for who can make straight that which he hath made crooked?
Betrachte das Werk Gottes! Wer kann gerade machen, was er krümmt?
14 In the day of wealth be of good comfort, and in the day of affliction consider: God also hath made this contrary to that, to the intent that man shoulde finde nothing after him.
Am guten Tage sei guter Dinge, und am bösen Tage bedenke: auch diesen hat Gott gemacht gleich wie jenen, wie ja der Mensch auch gar nicht erraten kann, was nach demselben kommt.
15 I haue seene all things in the dayes of my vanitie: there is a iust man that perisheth in his iustice, and there is a wicked man that continueth long in his malice.
Allerlei habe ich gesehen in den Tagen meiner Eitelkeit: Da ist ein Gerechter, welcher umkommt in seiner Gerechtigkeit, und dort ist ein Gottloser, welcher lange lebt in seiner Bosheit.
16 Be not thou iust ouermuch, neither make thy selfe ouerwise: wherefore shouldest thou be desolate?
Sei nicht allzu gerecht und erzeige dich nicht übermäßig weise! Warum willst du dich selbst verderben?
17 Be not thou wicked ouermuch, neither be thou foolish: wherefore shouldest thou perish not in thy time?
Werde aber auch nicht allzu verwegen und sei kein Narr! Warum willst du vor der Zeit sterben?
18 It is good that thou lay hold on this: but yet withdrawe not thine hand from that: for he that feareth God, shall come forth of them all.
Es ist am besten, du hältst das eine fest und lässest auch das andere nicht aus der Hand; denn wer Gott fürchtet, der entgeht dem allem.
19 Wisedome shall strengthen the wise man more then ten mightie princes that are in ye citie.
Die Weisheit macht den Weisen stärker als zehn Gewaltige, die in der Stadt sind.
20 Surely there is no man iust in the earth, that doeth good and sinneth not.
Weil kein Mensch auf Erden so gerecht ist, daß er Gutes tut, ohne zu sündigen,
21 Giue not thine heart also to all ye wordes that men speake, lest thou doe heare thy seruant cursing thee.
so höre auch nicht auf alle Worte, die man dir hinterbringt, und nimm sie nicht zu Herzen, damit du nicht deinen eigenen Knecht dir fluchen hörest!
22 For often times also thine heart knoweth that thou likewise hast cursed others.
Denn wie oftmals (das weiß dein Herz) hast auch du andern geflucht!
23 All this haue I prooued by wisedome: I thought I will be wise, but it went farre from me.
Dies alles habe ich der Weisheit zur Prüfung vorgelegt. Ich sprach: Ich will weise werden! Aber sie blieb fern von mir.
24 It is farre off, what may it be? and it is a profound deepenesse, who can finde it?
Wie weit entfernt ist das, was geschehen ist, und tief, ja, tief verborgen! Wer will es ausfindig machen?
25 I haue compassed about, both I and mine heart to knowe and to enquire and to search wisedome, and reason, and to knowe the wickednesse of follie, and the foolishnesse of madnesse,
Ich ging herum, und mein Herz war dabei, zu erkennen und zu erforschen und zu fragen nach Weisheit und dem Endergebnis, aber auch kennen zu lernen, wie dumm die Gottlosigkeit und wie toll die Narrheit ist;
26 And I finde more bitter then death the woman whose heart is as nettes and snares, and her handes, as bands: he that is good before God, shalbe deliuered from her, but the sinner shall be taken by her.
und nun finde ich, bitterer als der Tod ist das Weib, deren Herz ein Fangnetz ist und deren Hände Fesseln sind; wer Gott gefällt, wird ihr entrinnen, wer aber sündigt, wird von ihr gefangen.
27 Beholde, sayth the Preacher, this haue I found, seeking one by one to finde the count:
Siehe, das habe ich gefunden, sprach der Prediger, indem ich eins ums andere prüfte, um zum Endergebnis zu kommen.
28 And yet my soule seeketh, but I finde it not: I haue found one man of a thousand: but a woman among them all haue I not founde.
Was aber meine Seele noch immer sucht, habe ich nicht gefunden; einen Mann habe ich unter Tausenden gefunden; aber ein Weib habe ich unter diesen allen nicht gefunden!
29 Onely loe, this haue I founde, that God hath made man righteous: but they haue sought many inuentions.
Nur allein, siehe, das habe ich gefunden, daß Gott den Menschen aufrichtig gemacht hat; sie aber suchen viele Künste.
