Deuteronomy 8
1 Ye shall keepe all the commandements which I command thee this day, for to doe them: that ye may liue, and be multiplied, and goe in, and possesse the land which the Lord sware vnto your fathers.
"Ihr sollt das ganze Gesetz, das ich dir heute gebiete, mit Bedacht erfüllen, auf daß ihr leben bleibet, euch mehret und das Land besetzet, das der Herr euren Vätern zugeschworen!
2 And thou shalt remember all ye way which the Lord thy God led thee this fourtie yeere in the wildernesse, for to humble thee and to proue thee, to knowe what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keepe his commandements or no.
Gedenke des ganzen Weges, den dich der Herr, dein Gott, seit vierzig Jahren in der Steppe geführt hat, dich zu demütigen und zu prüfen, um zu erfahren, was in deinem Herzen ist, ob du seine Gebote halten wirst oder nicht!
3 Therefore he humbled thee, and made thee hungry, and fed thee with MAN, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know it, that he might teache thee that man liueth not by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth a man liue.
Er beugte dich und ließ dich hungern; aber dann speiste er dich mit Manna, das dir und deinen Vätern unbekannt gewesen, um dich zu lehren, daß der Mensch nicht vom Brot allein lebe, sondern daß der Mensch von allem lebt, was durch des Herrn Mund entsteht.
4 Thy raiment waxed not olde vpon thee, neither did thy foote swell those fourtie yeeres.
Dein Kleid ist nicht an dir zerfallen, und dein Fuß nicht geschwollen, diese vierzig Jahre.
5 Knowe therefore in thine heart, that as a man nourtereth his sonne, so the Lord thy God nourtereth thee.
So erkenne in deinem Herzen, daß dich der Herr, dein Gott, so erzieht, wie jemand seinen Sohn erzieht!
6 Therefore shalt thou keepe the commandements of the Lord thy God, that thou mayest walke in his wayes, and feare him.
Halte die Gebote des Herrn, deines Gottes, auf seinen Wegen wandelnd und ihn fürchtend!
7 For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land in the which are riuers of water and fountaines, and depthes that spring out of valleis and mountaines:
Denn der Herr, dein Gott, bringt dich in ein treffliches Land, in ein Land mit Wasserbächen, Quellen und Seen, die im Tal und auf dem Berg entspringen,
8 A land of wheate and barley, and of vineyards, and figtrees, and pomegranates: a land of oyle oliue and hony:
in ein Land mit Weizen und Gerste, Weinreben, Feigen und Granaten, in ein Land mit Oliven und Honig,
9 A land wherein thou shalt eate bread without scarcitie, neither shalt thou lacke any thing therein: a land whose stones are yron, and out of whose mountaines thou shalt digge brasse.
in ein Land, wo du nicht kümmerlich Brot essen mußt, sondern keinen Mangel hast, in ein Land, dessen Steine Eisen sind und aus dessen Bergen du Erz gräbst.
10 And when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, thou shalt blesse the Lord thy God for the good land, which he hath giuen thee.
Du wirst essen und satt werden. Preise dann den Herrn, deinen Gott, für das treffliche Land, das er dir gegeben!
11 Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, not keeping his commandements, and his lawes, and his ordinances, which I commaund thee this day:
Hüte dich, daß du nicht des Herrn, deines Gottes, vergäßest und seine Gesetze, Gebote und Gebräuche nicht mehr hieltest, die ich dir heute gebiete!
12 Lest when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein,
Issest du dich satt und baust schöne Wohnhäuser,
13 And thy beastes, and thy sheepe are increased, and thy siluer and golde is multiplied, and all that thou hast is increased,
mehren sich deine Rinder und Schafe, wird dir Silber und Gold in Menge zu eigen, mehrt sich all das Deine,
14 Then thine heart be lifted vp and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage,
dann werde nicht dein Herz hochmütig! Vergiß nicht des Herrn, deines Gottes, der dich aus Ägypterlande geführt, aus dem Sklavenhause,
15 Who was thy guide in the great and terrible wildernes (wherein were fierie serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where was no water, who brought forth water for thee out of ye rock of flint:
der dich geleitet durch die große schreckliche Wüste, wo Schlangen, Nattern und Skorpione sind und Dürre, wo kein Wasser ist; der dir Wasser quellen ließ aus Kieselfelsen,
16 Who fed thee in the wildernesse with MAN, which thy fathers knewe not) to humble thee, and and to proue thee, that he might doe thee good at thy latter ende.
der dich in der Wüste mit Manna speiste, das deine Väter nicht gekannt, der dich beugte und prüfte, damit er dir Gutes tun könnte in deiner Zukunft!
17 Beware least thou say in thine heart, My power, and the strength of mine owne hand hath prepared me this abundance.
Denke nicht: 'Meine Kraft und die Stärke meiner Hand hat mir diesen Reichtum verschafft!'
18 But remember the Lord thy God: for it is he which giueth thee power to get substance to establish his couenant which he sware vnto thy fathers, as appeareth this day.
Bedenke, daß der Herr, dein Gott, dir Kraft gibt, Reichtum zu schaffen, damit er seinen Bund bekräftige, den er deinen Vätern zugeschworen, wie es heute ist!
19 And if thou forget the Lord thy God, and walke after other gods, and serue them, and worship them, I testifie vnto you this day that ye shall surely perish.
Vergissest du aber des Herrn, deines Gottes, folgst du anderen Göttern, dienst ihnen und wirfst dich vor ihnen hin, so erkläre ich euch zum voraus aufs feierlichste, daß ihr umkommen werdet.
20 As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before you, so ye shall perish, because ye woulde not be obedient vnto the voyce of the Lord your God.
Wie die Völker, die der Herr vor euch vertilgt, so werdet ihr umkommen, zur Strafe dafür, daß ihr nicht auf die Stimme des Herrn, eures Gottes, hört."
