Deuteronomy 8
1 Ye shall keepe all the commandements which I command thee this day, for to doe them: that ye may liue, and be multiplied, and goe in, and possesse the land which the Lord sware vnto your fathers.
Alle de Bud, jeg i Dag paalægger dig, skal I omhyggeligt handle efter, for at I maa blive i Live og blive mangfoldige og komme ind og tage det Land i Besiddelse, som HERREN tilsvor eders Fædre.
2 And thou shalt remember all ye way which the Lord thy God led thee this fourtie yeere in the wildernesse, for to humble thee and to proue thee, to knowe what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keepe his commandements or no.
Og du skal komme i Hu, hvorledes HERREN din Gud i disse fyrretyve Aar har ført dig i Ørkenen for at ydmyge dig og sætte dig paa Prøve og for at se, hvad der boede i dit Hjerte, om du vilde holde hans Bud eller ej.
3 Therefore he humbled thee, and made thee hungry, and fed thee with MAN, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know it, that he might teache thee that man liueth not by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth a man liue.
Han ydmygede dig og lod dig sulte og gav dig saa Manna at spise, en Føde, som hverken du eller dine Fædre før kendte til, for at lade dig vide, at Mennesket ikke lever af Brød alene; men ved alt, hvad der udgaar af HERRENS Mund, lever Mennesket.
4 Thy raiment waxed not olde vpon thee, neither did thy foote swell those fourtie yeeres.
Dine klæder blev ikke slidt af Kroppen paa dig, og dine Fødder hovnede ikke i disse fyrretyve Aar:
5 Knowe therefore in thine heart, that as a man nourtereth his sonne, so the Lord thy God nourtereth thee.
Saa vid da og tag dig til Hjerte, at HERREN optugter dig, som en Mand optugter sin Søn.
6 Therefore shalt thou keepe the commandements of the Lord thy God, that thou mayest walke in his wayes, and feare him.
Og hold HERREN din Guds Bud, saa du vandrer paa hans Veje og frygter ham.
7 For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land in the which are riuers of water and fountaines, and depthes that spring out of valleis and mountaines:
Thi HERREN din Gud vil føre dig ind i et herligt Land, et Land med Vandbække, Kilder og Strømme, der vælder frem paa Bjerg og Dal,
8 A land of wheate and barley, and of vineyards, and figtrees, and pomegranates: a land of oyle oliue and hony:
et Land med Hvede og Byg, med Vinstokke, Figentræer og Granatæbletræer, et Land med Oliventræer og Honning,
9 A land wherein thou shalt eate bread without scarcitie, neither shalt thou lacke any thing therein: a land whose stones are yron, and out of whose mountaines thou shalt digge brasse.
et Land, hvor du ikke skal tære Fattigmands Brød, hvor du intet skal mangle, et Land, hvis Sten giver Jern, og i hvis Bjerge du kan hugge Kobber.
10 And when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, thou shalt blesse the Lord thy God for the good land, which he hath giuen thee.
Men naar du saa spiser dig mæt, skal du love HERREN din Gud for det herlige Land, han gav dig.
11 Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, not keeping his commandements, and his lawes, and his ordinances, which I commaund thee this day:
Vogt dig for at glemme HERREN din Gud, saa du ikke holder hans Bud, Lovbud og Anordninger, som jeg i Dag paalægger dig.
12 Lest when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein,
Naar du da spiser dig mæt og bygger gode Huse og bor i dem,
13 And thy beastes, and thy sheepe are increased, and thy siluer and golde is multiplied, and all that thou hast is increased,
og dit Hornkvæg og Smaakvæg øges, og dit Sølv og Guld øges, og alt, hvad du ejer, øges,
14 Then thine heart be lifted vp and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage,
lad saa ikke dit Hjerte blive hovmodigt, saa du glemmer HERREN din Gud, som førte dig ud af Ægypten, af Trællehuset,
15 Who was thy guide in the great and terrible wildernes (wherein were fierie serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where was no water, who brought forth water for thee out of ye rock of flint:
ham, som ledte dig i den store, grufulde Ørken med dens Giftslanger og Skorpioner og vandløse Ødemarker, ham, som lod Vand vælde frem til dig af den flinthaarde Klippe,
16 Who fed thee in the wildernesse with MAN, which thy fathers knewe not) to humble thee, and and to proue thee, that he might doe thee good at thy latter ende.
ham, som i Ørkenen gav dig Manna at spise, som dine Fædre ikke kendte til, dig til Ydmygelse og Prøvelse, for i de kommende Dage at kunne gøre vel imod dig!
17 Beware least thou say in thine heart, My power, and the strength of mine owne hand hath prepared me this abundance.
Og sig ikke ved dig selv: »Det er min egen Kraft og min egen Haands Styrke, der har skaffet mig den Rigdom.«
18 But remember the Lord thy God: for it is he which giueth thee power to get substance to establish his couenant which he sware vnto thy fathers, as appeareth this day.
Men kom HERREN din Gud i Hu; thi ham er det, der giver dig Kraft til at vinde dig Rigdom for at stadfæste den Pagt, han tilsvor dine Fædre, saaledes som det nu er sket.
19 And if thou forget the Lord thy God, and walke after other gods, and serue them, and worship them, I testifie vnto you this day that ye shall surely perish.
Men hvis du glemmer HERREN din Gud og holder dig til andre Guder og dyrker og tilbeder dem, saa vidner jeg for eder i Dag, at I skal gaa til Grunde.
20 As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before you, so ye shall perish, because ye woulde not be obedient vnto the voyce of the Lord your God.
Som de Folk, HERREN lader gaa til Grunde for eder, skal I gaa til Grunde, til Straf for at I ikke vilde adlyde HERREN eders Gud!
