Deuteronomy 5
1 Then Moses called all Israiel, and saide vnto them, Heare, O Israel, the ordinances and the lawes which I propose to you this day, that yee may learne them, and take heede to obserue them.
Et Moïse convoqua tous les Israélites et leur dit: Écoute, Israël, les statuts et les lois que je vais redire à vos oreilles en ce jour, et apprenez-les et veillez à les pratiquer.
2 The Lord our God made a couenant with vs in Horeb.
L'Éternel, notre Dieu, conclut avec nous une alliance en Horeb.
3 The Lord made not this couenant with our fathers onely, but with vs, euen with vs all here aliue this day.
Ce n'est pas avec nos pères que l'Éternel conclut cette alliance, mais avec nous, nous ici présents et tous vivant aujourd'hui.
4 The Lord talked with you face to face in the Mount, out of the middes of the fire.
L'Éternel vous parla face à face sur la montagne du milieu du feu.
5 (At that time I stoode betweene the Lord and you, to declare vnto you ye word of the Lord: for ye were afraid at the sight of the fire, and went not vp into the mount, and he said,
J'étais alors intermédiaire entre l'Éternel et vous, pour vous transmettre la parole de l'Éternel, car vous eûtes peur à l'aspect du feu et vous ne montâtes point sur la montagne. Et Il dit:
6 I am the Lord thy God, which haue brought thee out of the lande of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
Je suis l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai retiré du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
7 Thou shalt haue none other gods before my face.
Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux en face de moi.
8 Thou shalt make thee no grauen image or any likenesse of that that is in heauen aboue, or which is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters vnder the earth.
Tu ne te feras point de sculpture, aucune effigie de ce qui est en haut dans le ciel et en bas sur la terre et dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre.
9 Thou shalt neither bowe thy selfe vnto them, nor serue them: for I the Lord thy God am a ielous God, visiting the iniquitie of the fathers vpon the children, euen vnto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:
Tu ne les adoreras point et ne te laisseras point aller à les servir, car je suis l'Éternel, ton Dieu, un Dieu jaloux qui châtie l'iniquité des pères sur les fils et sur la troisième et sur la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent
10 And shewing mercie vnto thousandes of them that loue me, and keepe my commandements.
et qui fais grâce à la millième génération de ceux qui m'aiment et gardent mes commandements.
11 Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vaine: for the Lord will not holde him giltlesse that taketh his Name in vaine.
Tu ne proféreras pas le nom de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, légèrement, car l'Éternel ne laissera point impuni celui qui proférera son nom légèrement.
12 Keepe the Sabbath day, to sanctifie it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.
Observe le jour du repos pour le sanctifier, comme l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te l'a commandé.
13 Sixe dayes thou shalt labour, and shalt doe all thy worke:
Six jours tu travailleras et feras tout ton travail.
14 But the seuenth day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt not doe any worke therein, thou, nor thy sonne, nor thy daughter, nor thy man seruant, nor thy mayd, nor thine oxe, nor thine asse, neither any of thy cattel, nor the stranger that is within thy gates: that thy man seruant and thy mayde may rest aswell as thou.
Mais le septième jour est le sabbat de l'Éternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun travail, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni la servante, ni ton bœuf, ni ton âne, ni aucun de tes bestiaux, ni ton étranger qui est dans tes Portes, afin que ton serviteur et ta servante se reposent, ainsi que toi,
15 For, remember that thou wast a seruant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence by a mightie hand and a stretched out arme: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to obserue the Sabbath day.
te souvenant que tu fus esclave au pays d'Egypte et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a retiré de là d'une main forte et d'un bras étendu; c'est pourquoi l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a commandé d'observer le jour du repos.
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath comanded thee, that thy dayes may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee vpon the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère, comme te l'a commandé l'Éternel, ton Dieu, afin que tes jours se prolongent et que tu sois heureux dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne.
17 Thou shalt not kill.
Tu ne seras point meurtrier.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adulterie.
Tu ne seras point adultère.
19 Neither shalt thou steale.
Tu ne seras point larron.
20 Neither shalt thou beare false witnesse against thy neighbour.
Tu ne seras point faux témoin contre ton prochain.
21 Neither shalt thou couet thy neighbours wife, neither shalt thou desire thy neighbours house, his fielde, nor his man seruant, nor his mayd, his oxe, nor his asse, nor ought that thy neighbour hath.
Et tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain, et tu ne convoiteras point la maison de ton prochain, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui est à ton prochain.
22 These wordes the Lord spake vnto all your multitude in the mount out of the mids of the fire, the cloude and the darkenes, with a great voyce, and added no more thereto: and wrote them vpon two tables of stone, and deliuered them vnto me.
Telles sont les Paroles que l'Éternel a dites à toute votre Assemblée sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, de la nuée, de l'obscurité, à haute voix; et Il ne l'a plus fait; et Il les écrivit sur deux Tables de pierre qu'il me donna.
23 And when ye heard the voyce out of the middes of the darkenes, (for the mountaine did burne with fire) then ye came to me, all the chiefe of your tribes, and your Elders:
Et comme vous entendîtes cette voix sortant de l'obscurité, et comme un feu embrasait la montagne, vous vous approchâtes de moi, tous vos Chefs de Tribus et vos Anciens,
24 And ye sayd, Beholde, the Lord our God hath shewed vs his glory and his greatnes, and we haue heard his voyce out of the middes of the fire: we haue seene this day that God doeth talke with man, and he liueth.
et vous dîtes: Voilà que l'Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a fait voir sa gloire et sa majesté, et nous avons entendu sa voix sortir du feu; en ce jour nous avons vu que Dieu parle à l'homme, et que celui-ci peut vivre.
25 Now therefore, why should we dye? for this great fire wil consume vs: if we heare ye voyce of the Lord our God any more, we shall dye.
Or maintenant pourquoi mourrions-nous? car ce grand feu nous consumera; si nous continuons à ouïr encore la voix de l'Éternel, notre Dieu, nous mourrons.
26 For what flesh was there euer, that heard the voyce of the liuing God speaking out of the middes of the fire as we haue, and liued?
Car en toute chair qui pourrait entendre comme nous la voix du Dieu vivant parlant du milieu du feu et vivre?
27 Go thou neere and heare all that the Lord our God saith: and declare thou vnto vs all that the Lord our God saith vnto thee, and we will heare it, and doe it.
Va, toi, plus près, et écoute tout ce que dira l'Éternel, notre Dieu, et toi, tu nous rediras tout ce que t'aura dit l'Éternel, notre Dieu, et nous voulons l'écouter et le faire.
28 Then the Lord heard the voyce of your wordes, when ye spake vnto me: and the Lord sayd vnto me, I haue heard the voyce of ye wordes of this people, which they haue spoken vnto thee: they haue well sayd, all that they haue spoken.
Et l'Éternel entendit vos discours, quand vous me parliez. Et l'Éternel me dit: J'ai entendu les paroles que ce peuple t'a adressées; tout ce qu'ils ont dit, est bien.
29 Oh that there were such an heart in them to feare me, and to keepe all my commandements alway: that it might go well with them, and with their children for euer.
Puisse leur cœur rester tel pour me craindre et garder tous mes commandements dans tous les temps, afin qu'ils soient heureux, eux et leurs enfants éternellement!
30 Go, say vnto them, Returne you into your tentes.
Va et dis-leur: Retournez-vous-en dans vos tentes.
31 But stand thou here with me, and I wil tell thee all the commandements, and the ordinances, and the lawes, which thou shalt teach them: that they may doe them in the land which I giue them to possesse it.
Mais, toi, reste ici avec moi et je te dirai la totalité des commandements, des statuts et des lois que tu leur enseigneras, afin qu'ils les pratiquent dans le pays que je vais leur donner en propriété.
32 Take heede therefore, that ye doe as the Lord your God hath commanded you: turne not aside to the right hand nor to the left,
Veillez donc à vous conformer aux ordres de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, ne déviez ni à droite ni à gauche;
33 But walke in all the wayes which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may liue, and that it may goe well with you: and that ye may prolong your dayes in the land which ye shall possesse.
suivez entièrement la voie que vous a prescrite l'Éternel, votre Dieu, afin que vous viviez, et soyez heureux, et ayez de longs jours dans le pays dont vous ferez la conquête.
