Deuteronomy 5
1 Then Moses called all Israiel, and saide vnto them, Heare, O Israel, the ordinances and the lawes which I propose to you this day, that yee may learne them, and take heede to obserue them.
Et Moïse convoqua tout Israël, et il dit: Ecoute, Israël, les jugements et les ordonnances que je vais te faire entendre aujourd'hui: retiens-les, et veille à les mettre en pratique.
2 The Lord our God made a couenant with vs in Horeb.
Le Seigneur votre Dieu a fait alliance avec vous en Horeb.
3 The Lord made not this couenant with our fathers onely, but with vs, euen with vs all here aliue this day.
Ce n'est point avec vos pères que le Seigneur a fait cette alliance, mais avec vous, vous tous assemblés ici, vivant encore.
4 The Lord talked with you face to face in the Mount, out of the middes of the fire.
Le Seigneur vous a parlé face à face en la montagne, au milieu du feu.
5 (At that time I stoode betweene the Lord and you, to declare vnto you ye word of the Lord: for ye were afraid at the sight of the fire, and went not vp into the mount, and he said,
Et moi, en ce temps-là, je me tenais entre le Seigneur et vous, pour vous rapporter les paroles du Seigneur; car vous étiez épouvantés à l'aspect du feu, et vous ne montiez point sur la montagne; et le Seigneur a dit:
6 I am the Lord thy God, which haue brought thee out of the lande of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
Je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu qui t'ai fait sortir de la terre d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
7 Thou shalt haue none other gods before my face.
Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux devant ma face.
8 Thou shalt make thee no grauen image or any likenesse of that that is in heauen aboue, or which is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters vnder the earth.
Tu ne te feras point d'idoles, ni d'images d'aucune chose existant dans le ciel, sur la terre, sous la terre et dans les eaux.
9 Thou shalt neither bowe thy selfe vnto them, nor serue them: for I the Lord thy God am a ielous God, visiting the iniquitie of the fathers vpon the children, euen vnto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:
Tu ne les adoreras point, tu ne les serviras point; car je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu, Dieu jaloux, vengeant sur les enfants les péchés des pères, jusqu'à la troisième ou à la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,
10 And shewing mercie vnto thousandes of them that loue me, and keepe my commandements.
Et faisant miséricorde, pendant des milliers de générations, à ceux qui m'aiment et qui observent mes commandements.
11 Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vaine: for the Lord will not holde him giltlesse that taketh his Name in vaine.
Tu ne prendras pas en vain le nom du Seigneur ton Dieu; car le Seigneur ton Dieu ne regardera point comme pur celui qui aura pris son nom en vain.
12 Keepe the Sabbath day, to sanctifie it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.
Sois attentif le jour du sabbat a le sanctifier, comme te l'a prescrit le Seigneur ton Dieu.
13 Sixe dayes thou shalt labour, and shalt doe all thy worke:
Pendant six jours, travaille et fais tous tes ouvrages.
14 But the seuenth day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt not doe any worke therein, thou, nor thy sonne, nor thy daughter, nor thy man seruant, nor thy mayd, nor thine oxe, nor thine asse, neither any of thy cattel, nor the stranger that is within thy gates: that thy man seruant and thy mayde may rest aswell as thou.
Mais le septième jour est le sabbat du Seigneur ton Dieu; tu ne feras aucune œuvre en ce jour-là, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bœuf, ni ton âne, ni aucune de tes bêtes, ni le prosélyte demeurant avec toi; ton serviteur, ta servante, ton âne, se reposeront comme toi.
15 For, remember that thou wast a seruant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence by a mightie hand and a stretched out arme: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to obserue the Sabbath day.
Souviens-toi que tu étais esclave en Egypte, et que le Seigneur Dieu t'en a fait sortir par une main puissante, par un bras très-haut; c'est pourquoi le Seigneur ton Dieu te commande d'observer le jour du sabbat et de le sanctifier.
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath comanded thee, that thy dayes may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee vpon the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère, comme te l'a prescrit le Seigneur ton Dieu, afin que tu sois heureux, et que tu vives longtemps sur la terre que te donne le Seigneur ton Dieu.
17 Thou shalt not kill.
Tu ne seras pas adultère.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adulterie.
Tu ne tueras point.
19 Neither shalt thou steale.
Tu ne voleras point.
20 Neither shalt thou beare false witnesse against thy neighbour.
Tu ne porteras pas de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.
21 Neither shalt thou couet thy neighbours wife, neither shalt thou desire thy neighbours house, his fielde, nor his man seruant, nor his mayd, his oxe, nor his asse, nor ought that thy neighbour hath.
Tu ne convoiteras pas la femme de ton prochain; tu ne convoiteras pas la maison de ton prochain, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni aucune de ses bêtes, ni rien de ce qui est à ton prochain.
22 These wordes the Lord spake vnto all your multitude in the mount out of the mids of the fire, the cloude and the darkenes, with a great voyce, and added no more thereto: and wrote them vpon two tables of stone, and deliuered them vnto me.
Telles sont les paroles que le Seigneur a dites en la montagne, devant toute votre synagogue, au milieu du feu; alentour, il y avait obscurité, ténèbres, tempête, grands éclats de tonnerre; et il n'y a rien ajouté, et il a gravé ces paroles sur deux tables de pierre, et il me les a données.
23 And when ye heard the voyce out of the middes of the darkenes, (for the mountaine did burne with fire) then ye came to me, all the chiefe of your tribes, and your Elders:
Et, pendant que vous écoutiez la voix qui sortait du feu, la montagne était enflammée; alors, vous vîntes à moi, vous tous, vous princes de vos tribus, avec vos anciens;
24 And ye sayd, Beholde, the Lord our God hath shewed vs his glory and his greatnes, and we haue heard his voyce out of the middes of the fire: we haue seene this day that God doeth talke with man, and he liueth.
Vous dites: Voilà que le Seigneur notre Dieu nous a montré sa gloire, et nous avons entendu sa voix du milieu du feu; nous savons aujourd'hui que le Seigneur Dieu peut parler à un homme, et celui-ci vivre encore.
25 Now therefore, why should we dye? for this great fire wil consume vs: if we heare ye voyce of the Lord our God any more, we shall dye.
Maintenant, prends garde que nous ne mourions; car ce grand feu va nous dévorer, si nous continuons d'écouter la voix du Seigneur notre Dieu, et nous périrons.
26 For what flesh was there euer, that heard the voyce of the liuing God speaking out of the middes of the fire as we haue, and liued?
En effet, quelle chair aura entendu, comme nous, la voix du Dieu vivant, parlant du milieu du feu, et vivra encore?
27 Go thou neere and heare all that the Lord our God saith: and declare thou vnto vs all that the Lord our God saith vnto thee, and we will heare it, and doe it.
Approche-toi donc seul, écoute tout ce que dira le Seigneur notre Dieu, et tu nous répèteras tout ce que t'aura dit le Seigneur notre Dieu, et nous le saurons, et nous obéirons.
28 Then the Lord heard the voyce of your wordes, when ye spake vnto me: and the Lord sayd vnto me, I haue heard the voyce of ye wordes of this people, which they haue spoken vnto thee: they haue well sayd, all that they haue spoken.
Et le Seigneur ouït la rumeur de vos discours pendant que vous me parliez, et il me dit: j'ai ouï la rumeur des discours de ce peuple, j'ai entendu tout ce qu'il t'a dit; et, en tout, il a bien parlé.
29 Oh that there were such an heart in them to feare me, and to keepe all my commandements alway: that it might go well with them, and with their children for euer.
Puissent leurs cœurs ne point changer, afin qu'ils me craignent et observent mes commandements; alors, ils prospèreront, eux et leurs fils, à jamais!
30 Go, say vnto them, Returne you into your tentes.
Va, et dis-leur: Retournez sous vos tentes.
31 But stand thou here with me, and I wil tell thee all the commandements, and the ordinances, and the lawes, which thou shalt teach them: that they may doe them in the land which I giue them to possesse it.
Cependant, demeure auprès de moi, et je te dirai les commandements, les jugements et les ordonnances que tu auras à leur enseigner, afin qu'ils les mettent en pratique dans la terre que je leur donne pour héritage.
32 Take heede therefore, that ye doe as the Lord your God hath commanded you: turne not aside to the right hand nor to the left,
Soyez donc attentifs à vous conduire comme l'a prescrit le Seigneur votre Dieu; ne vous écartez ni à droite ni à gauche,
33 But walke in all the wayes which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may liue, and that it may goe well with you: and that ye may prolong your dayes in the land which ye shall possesse.
En toute voie ou le Seigneur votre Dieu vous a prescrit de marcher, si vous voulez qu'il vous donne prospérité et repos; et vous vivrez de longs jours en la terre qui sera votre héritage.
