Deuteronomy 4
1 Nowe therefore hearken, O Israel, vnto the ordinances and to the lawes which I teache you to doe, that ye may liue and goe in, and possesse the lande, which the Lord God of your fathers giueth you.
Så hør nu, Israel, de lover og de bud som jeg lærer eder å holde, forat I må leve og komme inn i det land som Herren, eders fedres Gud, gir eder, og ta det i eie!
2 Ye shall put nothing vnto the word which I command you, neither shall ye take ought there from, that ye may keepe the commandements of the Lord your God which I commande you.
I skal ikke legge noget til det ord jeg byder eder, og I skal ikke ta noget fra, men I skal holde Herrens, eders Guds bud som jeg gir eder.
3 Your eyes haue seene what the Lord did because of Baal-Peor, for al the men that folowed Baal-Peor the Lord thy God hath destroyed euery one from among you.
I har med egne øine sett hvad Herren gjorde da det hendte det med Ba'al Peor; hver mann som holdt sig til Ba'al Peor, utryddet Herren din Gud av din midte,
4 But ye that did cleaue vnto the Lord your God, are aliue euery one of you this day.
men I som holdt fast ved Herren eders Gud, I lever alle den dag idag.
5 Behold, I haue taught you ordinances, and lawes, as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should doe euen so within the land whither ye goe to possesse it.
Se, jeg har lært eder lover og bud, således som Herren min Gud bød mig, forat I skal gjøre efter dem i det land I drar inn i og skal ta i eie.
6 Keepe them therefore, and doe them; for that is your wisdome, and your vnderstanding in the sight of the people, which shall heare all these ordinances, and shall say, Onely this people is wise, and of vnderstanding, and a great nation.
Så skal I da ta vare på dem og holde dem; det vil bli regnet for visdom og forstand hos eder av andre folk; for når de får høre om alle disse lover, vil de si: Sannelig, et vist og forstandig folk er dette store folk.
7 For what nation is so great, vnto whome the gods come so neere vnto them, as the Lord our God is neere vnto vs, in all that we call vnto him for?
For hvor finnes det et folk, om det er aldri så stort, som har guder som er det så nær som Herren vår Gud er oss, så titt vi kaller på ham?
8 And what nation is so great, that hath ordinances and lawes so righteous, as all this Lawe, which I set before you this day?
Og hvor finnes det et folk, om det er aldri så stort, som har så rettferdige lover og bud som hele denne lov jeg legger frem for eder idag?
9 But take heede to thy selfe, and keepe thy soule diligently, that thou forget not the thinges which thine eyes haue seene, and that they depart not out of thine heart, all the dayes of thy life: but teach them thy sonnes, and thy sonnes sonnes:
Vokt dig bare og ta dig vel i akt at du ikke glemmer det dine øine har sett, så det ikke går ut av din hu alle ditt livs dager, men kunngjør det for dine barn og dine barnebarn,
10 Forget not the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said vnto me, Gather me the people together, and I wil cause them heare my wordes, that they may learne to feare me all the dayes that they shall liue vpon the earth, and that they may teache their children:
det du så den dag du stod for Herrens, din Guds åsyn ved Horeb, da Herren sa til mig: Kall folket sammen for mig, forat jeg kan la dem høre mine ord, så de kan lære å frykte mig alle de dager de lever på jorden, og også lære sine barn dem.
11 Then came you neere and stoode vnder the mountaine, and the mountaine burnt with fire vnto the mids of heauen, and there was darkenesse, cloudes and mist.
Da kom I nær til og stod nedenfor fjellet, mens fjellet stod i brennende lue like inn i himmelen, og der var mørke og skyer og skodde.
12 And the Lord spake vnto you out of the middes of the fire, and ye heard the voyce of the wordes, but sawe no similitude, saue a voyce.
Og Herren talte til eder midt ut av ilden; I hørte lyden av ordene, men nogen skikkelse blev I ikke var; I hørte bare lyden.
13 Then hee declared vnto you his couenant which he commanded you to doe, euen the ten commandements, and wrote them vpon two tables of stone.
Og han forkynte eder sin pakt, som han bød eder å holde, de ti ord; og han skrev dem på to stentavler.
14 And the Lord commanded me that same time, that I should teach you ordinances and lawes, which ye should obserue in the lande, whither ye goe, to possesse it.
Og mig bød Herren på samme tid å lære eder lover og bud, som I skal leve efter i det land I drar over til og skal ta i eie.
15 Take therefore good heede vnto your selues: for ye sawe no image in the day that the Lord spake vnto you in Horeb out of the middes of the fire:
Så ta eder nu vel i vare, så sant I har eders liv kjært - for I så ingen skikkelse den dag Herren talte til eder på Horeb midt ut av ilden -
16 That ye corrupt not your selues, and make you a grauen image or representation of any figure: whither it be the likenes of male or female,
at I ikke forsynder eder med å gjøre eder noget utskåret billede, noget slags avgudsbillede, i skikkelse av mann eller kvinne
17 The likenes of any beast that is on earth, or the likenesse of any fethered foule that flieth in the aire:
eller av noget firføtt dyr på jorden eller av nogen vinget fugl som flyver under himmelen,
18 Or the likenesse of any thing that creepeth on the earth, or the likenesse of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth,
eller av noget dyr som kryper på jorden, eller av nogen fisk i vannet nedenfor jorden,
19 And lest thou lift vp thine eyes vnto heauen, and when thou seest the sunne and the moone and the starres with all the host of heauen, shouldest bee driuen to worship them and serue them, which the Lord thy God hath distributed to all people vnder the whole heauen.
og at du ikke, når du løfter dine øine op til himmelen og ser solen og månen og stjernene, hele himmelens hær, lar dig føre vill, så du tilbeder dem og dyrker dem, de som Herren din Gud har tildelt alle folkene under hele himmelen.
20 But the Lord hath taken you and brought you out of the yron fornace: out of Egypt to be vnto him a people and inheritance, as appeareth this day.
Men eder har Herren tatt og ført ut av jernovnen, av Egypten, forat I skal være hans eiendomsfolk, således som det kan sees på denne dag.
21 And the Lord was angrie with me for your words, and sware that I should not goe ouer Iorden, and that I should not goe in vnto that good land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee for an inheritance.
Og Herren blev vred på mig for eders skyld og svor at jeg ikke skulde få gå over Jordan og ikke komme inn i det gode land som Herren din Gud gir dig til arv.
22 For I must die in this land, and shall not go ouer Iorden: but ye shall goe ouer, and possesse that good land.
For jeg må dø her i dette land, jeg kommer ikke over Jordan; men I skal gå over den og ta dette gode land i eie.
23 Take heede vnto your selues, least ye forget the couenant of the Lord your God which hee made with you, and least ye make you any grauen image, or likenes of any thing, as the Lord thy God hath charged thee.
Ta eder da i vare at I ikke glemmer Herrens, eders Guds pakt, som han har gjort med eder, og gjør eder noget utskåret billede av noget slag; for det har Herren din Gud forbudt dig!
24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, and a ielous God.
For Herren din Gud er en fortærende ild, en nidkjær Gud.
25 When thou shalt beget children and childrens children, and shalt haue remained long in the land, if ye corrupt your selues, and make any grauen image, or likenes of any thing, and worke euill in the sight of the Lord thy God, to prouoke him to anger,
Når du får barn og barnebarn og I blir gamle i landet, og I forsynder eder med å gjøre noget utskåret billede av noget slag, så I gjør hvad ondt er i Herrens, eders Guds øine og dermed egger ham til vrede,
26 I call heauen and earth to record against you this day, that ye shall shortly perish from the land, whereunto ye goe ouer Iorden to possesse it: ye shall not prolong your dayes therein, but shall vtterly be destroyed.
så tar jeg idag himmelen og jorden til vidne mot eder at I visselig snart skal utryddes av det land som I nu drar inn i over Jordan og skal ta i eie; I skal ikke leve mange dager der, men bli helt ødelagt.
27 And the Lord shall scatter you among the people, and ye shall be left few in nomber among the nations, whither the Lord shall bring you:
Herren skal sprede eder blandt folkene, så bare en liten flokk av eder blir tilbake blandt de hedningefolk Herren fører eder bort til.
28 And there ye shall serue gods, euen ye worke of mans hand, wood, and stone, which neither see, nor heare, nor eate, nor smelll.
Og der skal I dyrke guder som er gjort av menneskehender, stokk og sten, som ikke ser og ikke hører og ikke eter og ikke lukter.
29 But if from thence thou shalt seeke the Lord thy God, thou shalt finde him, if thou seeke him with all thine heart, and with all thy soule.
Der skal I søke Herren din Gud, og du skal finne ham når du søker ham av alt ditt hjerte og av all din sjel.
30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come vpon thee, at the length if thou returne to the Lord thy God, and bee obedient vnto his voyce,
Når du er i trengsel, og alle disse ting kommer over dig, i de siste dager, da skal du omvende dig til Herren din Gud og høre på hans røst.
31 (For the Lord thy God is a mercifull God) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the couenant of thy fathers, which hee sware vnto them.
For Herren din Gud er en barmhjertig Gud; han skal ikke slippe dig og ikke la dig gå til grunne; han skal ikke glemme den pakt med dine fedre som han tilsvor dem.
32 For inquire now of the dayes that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man vpon the earth, and aske from the one ende of heauen vnto the other, if there came to passe such a great thing as this, or whether any such like thing hath bene heard.
For spør bare om de fremfarne dager, som var før din tid, like fra den dag da Gud skapte menneskene på jorden, og spør fra den ene ende av himmelen til den andre om det er hendt eller hørt noget som er så stort som dette,
33 Did euer people heare the voyce of God speaking out of the middes of a fire, as thou hast heard, and liued?
om noget folk har hørt Guds røst tale midt ut av ilden, således som du har gjort, og er blitt i live,
34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from among nations, by tentations, by signes, and by wonders, and by warre, and by a mightie hand, and by a stretched out arme, and by great feare, according vnto all that the Lord your God did vnto you in Egypt before your eyes?
eller om Gud har prøvd på å komme og ta sig et folk midt ut av et annet folk ved prøvelser, ved tegn og undergjerninger og ved krig og med sterk hånd og utrakt arm og store, forferdelige gjerninger, således som du med egne øine har sett Herren eders Gud gjorde med eder i Egypten.
35 Vnto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest knowe, that the Lord hee is God, and that there is none but he alone.
Du har fått se alt dette, forat du skal vite at Herren han er Gud, og ingen uten han alene.
36 Out of heauen hee made thee heare his voyce to instruct thee, and vpon earth he shewed thee his great fire, and thou heardest his voyce out of the middes of the fire.
Fra himmelen har han latt dig høre sin røst for å lære dig, og på jorden har han latt dig se sin store ild, og hans ord har du hørt midt ut av ilden.
37 And because hee loued thy fathers, therefore hee chose their seede after them, and hath brought thee out of Egypt in his sight by his mightie power,
Og fordi han elsket dine fedre og utvalgte deres efterkommere, så førte han dig selv med sin store kraft ut av Egypten
38 To thrust out nations greater and mightier then thou, before thee, to bring thee in, and to giue thee their land for inheritance: as appeareth this day.
for å drive ut for dig større og sterkere folk enn du er, og føre dig inn og gi dig deres land til arv, som det kan sees på denne dag.
39 Vnderstande therefore this day, and consider in thine heart, that the Lord, he is God in heauen aboue, and vpon the earth beneath: there is none other.
Så skal du da idag vite og ta dig det til hjerte at Herren han er Gud både i himmelen der oppe og på jorden her nede, han og ingen annen.
40 Thou shalt keepe therefore his ordinances, and his commandements which I commaund thee this day, that it may goe well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayst prolong thy dayes vpon the earth, which the Lord thy God giueth thee for euer.
Og du skal ta vare på hans lover og hans bud, som jeg gir dig idag, forat det kan gå dig vel og dine barn efter dig, og forat du kan leve mange dager i det land Herren din Gud gir dig til evig eie.
41 Then Moses separated three cities on this side of Iorden toward the sunne rising:
På den tid skilte Moses ut tre byer på hin side Jordan, på østsiden,
42 That the slayer should flee thither, which had killed his neighbour at vnwares, and hated him not in time past, might flee, I say, vnto one of those cities, and liue:
forat en manndraper som hadde slått sin næste ihjel av vanvare og uten før å ha båret hat til ham, kunde fly dit - til en av disse byer - og redde livet;
43 That is, Bezer in the wildernesse, in the plaine countrey of the Reubenites: and Ramoth in Gilead among the Gadites: and Golan in Bashan among them of Manasseh.
det var Beser i ørkenen på sletten for rubenittene, og Ramot i Gilead for gadittene, og Golan i Basan for manassittene.
44 So this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel.
Og dette er den lov som Moses la frem for Israels barn;
45 These are the witnesses, and the ordinances, and the lawes which Moses declared to the children of Israel after they came out of Egypt,
dette er de vidnesbyrd og forskrifter og bud som Moses forkynte Israels barn da de var gått ut av Egypten,
46 On this side Iorden, in the valley ouer against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon King of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come out of Egypt:
på hin side Jordan i dalen midt imot Bet-Peor, i det land som hadde tilhørt amorittenes konge Sihon, han som bodde i Hesbon, og som Moses og Israels barn slo da de var gått ut av Egypten;
47 And they possessed his land, and the lande of Og King of Bashan, two Kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Iorden towarde the sunne rising:
da inntok de både hans land og Basan-kongen Ogs land, begge amoritterkongenes land på hin side Jordan, på østsiden,
48 From Aroer, which is by the banke of the riuer Arnon, euen vnto mount Sion, which is Hermon,
fra Aroer, som ligger ved bredden av Arnon-åen, til fjellet Sion, det er Hermon,
49 And all the plaine by Iorden Eastwarde, euen vnto the Sea, of ye plaine, vnder the springs of Pisgah.
og hele ødemarken på hin side Jordan, på østsiden, like til Ødemarks-havet nedenfor Pisga-liene.
