Deuteronomy 4

1 Nowe therefore hearken, O Israel, vnto the ordinances and to the lawes which I teache you to doe, that ye may liue and goe in, and possesse the lande, which the Lord God of your fathers giueth you.

Und nun höre, Israel, die Satzungen und Rechte, die ich euch zu tun lehre, auf daß ihr lebet und hineinkommet und das Land einnehmet, das euch der HERR, der Gott eurer Väter, gibt.

2 Ye shall put nothing vnto the word which I command you, neither shall ye take ought there from, that ye may keepe the commandements of the Lord your God which I commande you.

Ihr sollt nichts hinzutun zu dem Worte, das ich euch gebiete, und sollt auch nichts davontun, damit ihr die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, haltet, die ich euch gebiete.

3 Your eyes haue seene what the Lord did because of Baal-Peor, for al the men that folowed Baal-Peor the Lord thy God hath destroyed euery one from among you.

Eure Augen haben gesehen, was der HERR wegen des Baal-Peor getan hat. Denn alle, die Baal-Peor nachwandelten, hat der HERR, dein Gott, aus deiner Mitte vertilgt!

4 But ye that did cleaue vnto the Lord your God, are aliue euery one of you this day.

Aber ihr, die ihr dem HERRN, eurem Gott, anhinget, lebet alle heute noch.

5 Behold, I haue taught you ordinances, and lawes, as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should doe euen so within the land whither ye goe to possesse it.

Siehe, ich habe euch Satzungen und Rechte gelehrt, wie mir der HERR, mein Gott, geboten hat, daß ihr also tun sollt im Lande, darein ihr kommen werdet, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.

6 Keepe them therefore, and doe them; for that is your wisdome, and your vnderstanding in the sight of the people, which shall heare all these ordinances, and shall say, Onely this people is wise, and of vnderstanding, and a great nation.

So behaltet sie nun und tut sie; denn das ist eure Weisheit und euer Verstand vor allen Völkern. Wenn sie alle diese Gebote hören, werden sie sagen: Wie ist doch dieses große Volk ein so weises und verständiges Volk!

7 For what nation is so great, vnto whome the gods come so neere vnto them, as the Lord our God is neere vnto vs, in all that we call vnto him for?

Denn wo ist ein so großes Volk, zu dem sich die Götter also nahen, wie der HERR, unser Gott, es tut, so oft wir ihn anrufen?

8 And what nation is so great, that hath ordinances and lawes so righteous, as all this Lawe, which I set before you this day?

Und wo ist ein so großes Volk, das so gerechte Satzungen und Rechte habe, wie dieses ganze Gesetz ist, das ich euch heute vorlege?

9 But take heede to thy selfe, and keepe thy soule diligently, that thou forget not the thinges which thine eyes haue seene, and that they depart not out of thine heart, all the dayes of thy life: but teach them thy sonnes, and thy sonnes sonnes:

Nur hüte dich und bewahre deine Seele wohl, daß du die Geschichten nicht vergessest, die deine Augen gesehen haben, und daß sie nicht aus deinem Herzen kommen alle Tage deines Lebens; sondern du sollst sie deinen Kindern und Kindeskindern kundtun;

10 Forget not the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said vnto me, Gather me the people together, and I wil cause them heare my wordes, that they may learne to feare me all the dayes that they shall liue vpon the earth, and that they may teache their children:

was geschah an dem Tage, als du vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, standest am Berge Horeb, als der HERR zu mir sprach: Versammle mir das Volk, daß ich sie meine Worte hören lasse, und damit sie mich fürchten lernen alle Tage ihres Lebens auf Erden, und damit sie die Worte auch ihre Kinder lehren.

11 Then came you neere and stoode vnder the mountaine, and the mountaine burnt with fire vnto the mids of heauen, and there was darkenesse, cloudes and mist.

Und ihr tratet herzu und standet unten am Berg. Aber der Berg brannte im Feuer bis in den Himmel hinein, der voller Finsternis, Wolken und Dunkel war.

12 And the Lord spake vnto you out of the middes of the fire, and ye heard the voyce of the wordes, but sawe no similitude, saue a voyce.

Und der HERR redete mit euch mitten aus dem Feuer. Die Stimme seiner Worte hörtet ihr, aber ihr sahet keine Gestalt, sondern vernahmet nur die Stimme.

13 Then hee declared vnto you his couenant which he commanded you to doe, euen the ten commandements, and wrote them vpon two tables of stone.

Und er verkündigte euch seinen Bund, den er euch zu halten gebot, nämlich die zehn Worte, die er auf zwei steinerne Tafeln schrieb.

14 And the Lord commanded me that same time, that I should teach you ordinances and lawes, which ye should obserue in the lande, whither ye goe, to possesse it.

Und der HERR gebot mir zu jener Zeit, daß ich euch die Satzungen und Rechte lehre, die ihr tun sollt in dem Lande, darein ihr ziehet, um es einzunehmen.

15 Take therefore good heede vnto your selues: for ye sawe no image in the day that the Lord spake vnto you in Horeb out of the middes of the fire:

So bewahret nun eure Seelen wohl, weil ihr keine Gestalt gesehen habt an dem Tage, als der HERR aus dem Feuer heraus mit euch redete auf dem Berge Horeb;

16 That ye corrupt not your selues, and make you a grauen image or representation of any figure: whither it be the likenes of male or female,

daß ihr nicht verderblich handelt und euch irgend ein gemeißeltes Bild machet, irgend eine männliche oder weibliche Figur,

17 The likenes of any beast that is on earth, or the likenesse of any fethered foule that flieth in the aire:

oder das Bild irgend eines Viehes, das auf Erden ist, oder eines Vogels, der am Himmel fliegt,

18 Or the likenesse of any thing that creepeth on the earth, or the likenesse of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth,

oder das Bild eines Reptils, das auf dem Erdboden kriecht, oder der Fische, die im Wasser unter der Erde sind;

19 And lest thou lift vp thine eyes vnto heauen, and when thou seest the sunne and the moone and the starres with all the host of heauen, shouldest bee driuen to worship them and serue them, which the Lord thy God hath distributed to all people vnder the whole heauen.

daß du deine Augen auch nicht gen Himmel hebest, und die Sonne und den Mond und die Sterne und das ganze Heer des Himmels beschauest und dich verführen lassest, sie anzubeten und ihnen zu dienen, die doch der HERR, dein Gott, allen Völkern unter dem ganzen Himmel zugeteilt hat.

20 But the Lord hath taken you and brought you out of the yron fornace: out of Egypt to be vnto him a people and inheritance, as appeareth this day.

Euch aber hat der HERR angenommen und aus dem eisernen Ofen, aus Ägypten, geführt, daß ihr sein Erbvolk sein solltet, wie es heute der Fall ist.

21 And the Lord was angrie with me for your words, and sware that I should not goe ouer Iorden, and that I should not goe in vnto that good land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee for an inheritance.

Und der HERR war um euretwillen so zornig über mich, daß er schwur, ich sollte nicht über den Jordan gehen, noch in das gute Land kommen, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir zum Erbe gibt;

22 For I must die in this land, and shall not go ouer Iorden: but ye shall goe ouer, and possesse that good land.

sondern ich muß in diesem Lande sterben und darf nicht über den Jordan gehen; ihr aber dürft hinübergehen und jenes gute Land einnehmen.

23 Take heede vnto your selues, least ye forget the couenant of the Lord your God which hee made with you, and least ye make you any grauen image, or likenes of any thing, as the Lord thy God hath charged thee.

So hütet euch nun, daß ihr des Bundes des HERRN, eures Gottes, den er mit euch gemacht hat, nicht vergesset und euch nicht Bilder machet von irgend einer Gestalt, was der HERR, dein Gott, dir verboten hat.

24 For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, and a ielous God.

Denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein verzehrendes Feuer, ein eifriger Gott.

25 When thou shalt beget children and childrens children, and shalt haue remained long in the land, if ye corrupt your selues, and make any grauen image, or likenes of any thing, and worke euill in the sight of the Lord thy God, to prouoke him to anger,

Wenn du nun Kinder und Kindeskinder zeugst und ihr alt werdet im Lande und verderblich handelt und euch Bilder machet von irgend einer Gestalt und vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott, Übles tut, daß ihr ihn erzürnet,

26 I call heauen and earth to record against you this day, that ye shall shortly perish from the land, whereunto ye goe ouer Iorden to possesse it: ye shall not prolong your dayes therein, but shall vtterly be destroyed.

so rufe ich heute Himmel und Erde zu Zeugen wider euch an, daß ihr gewiß bald umkommen werdet in dem Lande, wohin ihr über den Jordan ziehet, um es einzunehmen; ihr werdet nicht lange darin wohnen, sondern sicherlich vertilgt werden!

27 And the Lord shall scatter you among the people, and ye shall be left few in nomber among the nations, whither the Lord shall bring you:

Und der HERR wird euch unter die Völker zerstreuen, und es wird eine geringe Zahl von euch übrigbleiben unter den Heiden, dahin euch der HERR führen wird.

28 And there ye shall serue gods, euen ye worke of mans hand, wood, and stone, which neither see, nor heare, nor eate, nor smelll.

Daselbst werdet ihr den Göttern dienen, die der Menschen Hände Werk sind, Holz und Stein, die weder sehen noch hören noch essen noch riechen.

29 But if from thence thou shalt seeke the Lord thy God, thou shalt finde him, if thou seeke him with all thine heart, and with all thy soule.

Wenn du aber daselbst den HERRN, deinen Gott, suchen wirst, so wirst du ihn finden, ja wenn du ihn von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele suchen wirst.

30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come vpon thee, at the length if thou returne to the Lord thy God, and bee obedient vnto his voyce,

Wenn du in der Not bist und dich alle diese Dinge treffen, so wirst du in den letzten Tagen zu dem HERRN, deinem Gott, umkehren und seiner Stimme gehorsam sein;

31 (For the Lord thy God is a mercifull God) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the couenant of thy fathers, which hee sware vnto them.

denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein barmherziger Gott; Er wird dich nicht verlassen, noch verderben; Er wird auch des Bundes, den er deinen Vätern geschworen hat, nicht vergessen.

32 For inquire now of the dayes that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man vpon the earth, and aske from the one ende of heauen vnto the other, if there came to passe such a great thing as this, or whether any such like thing hath bene heard.

Denn frage doch nach den früheren Zeiten, die vor dir gewesen sind, von dem Tage an, als Gott den Menschen auf Erden erschuf, und von einem Ende des Himmels bis zum andern, ob je ein solch großes Ding geschehen oder je dergleichen gehört worden sei:

33 Did euer people heare the voyce of God speaking out of the middes of a fire, as thou hast heard, and liued?

Ob je ein Volk die Stimme Gottes gehört habe aus dem Feuer reden, wie du sie gehört hast, und dennoch lebe;

34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from among nations, by tentations, by signes, and by wonders, and by warre, and by a mightie hand, and by a stretched out arme, and by great feare, according vnto all that the Lord your God did vnto you in Egypt before your eyes?

oder ob je ein Gott versucht habe, hinzugehen und sich ein Volk mitten aus einem andern Volk zu nehmen durch große Prüfungen, durch Zeichen, durch Wunder, durch Kampf und durch eine mächtige Hand und durch einen ausgestreckten Arm und durch schreckliche, große Taten, wie das alles der HERR, euer Gott, mit euch in Ägypten vor deinen Augen getan hat?

35 Vnto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest knowe, that the Lord hee is God, and that there is none but he alone.

Dir ist es gezeigt worden, auf daß du wissest, daß der HERR Gott ist, und keiner sonst als er allein.

36 Out of heauen hee made thee heare his voyce to instruct thee, and vpon earth he shewed thee his great fire, and thou heardest his voyce out of the middes of the fire.

Er hat dich vom Himmel her seine Stimme hören lassen, daß er dich unterwiese; und auf Erden hat er dir sein großes Feuer gezeigt, und du hast seine Worte aus dem Feuer gehört.

37 And because hee loued thy fathers, therefore hee chose their seede after them, and hath brought thee out of Egypt in his sight by his mightie power,

Und weil er deine Väter liebte, darum hat er ihren Samen nach ihnen erwählt und dich in eigener Person durch seine große Kraft aus Ägypten ausgeführt,

38 To thrust out nations greater and mightier then thou, before thee, to bring thee in, and to giue thee their land for inheritance: as appeareth this day.

daß er vor dir her größere und stärkere Völker, als du bist, vertriebe, und dich in ihr Land führte und dasselbe dir zum Erbteil gäbe, wie es heute der Fall ist.

39 Vnderstande therefore this day, and consider in thine heart, that the Lord, he is God in heauen aboue, and vpon the earth beneath: there is none other.

So sollst du nun heute wissen und zu Herzen fassen, daß der HERR der alleinige Gott ist oben im Himmel und unten auf Erden, und keiner sonst.

40 Thou shalt keepe therefore his ordinances, and his commandements which I commaund thee this day, that it may goe well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayst prolong thy dayes vpon the earth, which the Lord thy God giueth thee for euer.

Darum beobachte seine Satzungen und seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete, so wird es dir und deinen Kindern nach dir wohl gehen, und du wirst lange leben in dem Lande, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt, für alle Zeiten.

41 Then Moses separated three cities on this side of Iorden toward the sunne rising:

Damals sonderte Mose drei Städte aus, diesseits des Jordan, gegen Aufgang der Sonne,

42 That the slayer should flee thither, which had killed his neighbour at vnwares, and hated him not in time past, might flee, I say, vnto one of those cities, and liue:

damit der Totschläger dorthin fliehen könne, der seinen Nächsten unversehens getötet hat, ohne ihm zuvor feind gewesen zu sein, (daß er in eine dieser Städte fliehe und am Leben bleibe)

43 That is, Bezer in the wildernesse, in the plaine countrey of the Reubenites: and Ramoth in Gilead among the Gadites: and Golan in Bashan among them of Manasseh.

nämlich Bezer in der Steppe, im ebenen Lande, für die Rubeniter, Ramot in Gilead für die Gaditer, und Golan in Basan für die Manassiter.

44 So this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel.

Dies ist das Gesetz, das Mose den Kindern Israel vorlegte;

45 These are the witnesses, and the ordinances, and the lawes which Moses declared to the children of Israel after they came out of Egypt,

das sind die Zeugnisse, die Satzungen und Rechte, welche Mose den Kindern Israel sagte, als sie aus Ägypten gezogen waren,

46 On this side Iorden, in the valley ouer against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon King of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come out of Egypt:

diesseits des Jordan, im Tal, Beth-Peor gegenüber, im Lande Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon wohnte, den Mose und die Kinder Israel schlugen, als sie aus Ägypten zogen, und dessen Land sie einnahmen,

47 And they possessed his land, and the lande of Og King of Bashan, two Kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Iorden towarde the sunne rising:

samt dem Lande Ogs, des Königs zu Basan, der beiden Könige der Amoriter, die diesseits des Jordan waren, gegen Aufgang der Sonne;

48 From Aroer, which is by the banke of the riuer Arnon, euen vnto mount Sion, which is Hermon,

von Aroer an, welche am Ufer des Arnon liegt, bis an den Berg Sion, das ist der Hermon.

49 And all the plaine by Iorden Eastwarde, euen vnto the Sea, of ye plaine, vnder the springs of Pisgah.

Und die ganze Ebene diesseits des Jordan, gegen Aufgang, bis an das Meer der Ebene unterhalb der Abhänge des Pisga.
