Deuteronomy 3
1 Then we turned, and went vp by the way of Bashan: and Og King of Bashan came out against vs, he, and all his people to fight at Edrei.
Et nous nous remîmes en marche, en suivant la route de Basan, et Og, roi de Basan, sortit à notre rencontre avec son peuple pour nous combattre en Edraï
2 And the Lord sayde vnto me, Feare him not, for I will deliuer him, and all his people, and his land into thine hand, and thou shalt doe vnto him as thou diddest vnto Sihon King of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
Et le Seigneur me dit: Ne le crains pas, je l'ai livré à tes mains avec tout son peuple et son territoire; traite-le comme tu as traité Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui résidait en Esebon.
3 So the Lord our God deliuered also vnto our hand, Og the King of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him, vntill none was left him aliue,
Et le Seigneur notre Dieu nous le livra, lui et tout son peuple; nous le battîmes si complètement, que rien ne reste de sa race.
4 And we tooke all his cities the same time, neither was there a citie which we tooke not from them, euen three score cities, and all ye countrey of Argob, the kingdome of Og in Bashan.
En ce temps-là, nous nous rendîmes maîtres de toutes ses villes; il n'y en eut pas une que nous ne prîmes: les soixante villes et tout le territoire d'Argob, possession du roi Og de Basan,
5 All these cities were fenced with hie walles, gates and barres, beside vnwalled townes a great many.
Toutes villes fortes, avec de hautes murailles, des portes et des barrières, nous les détruisîmes, outre les villes des Phérézéens, qui étaient très-nombreuses,
6 And we ouerthrewe them, as we did vnto Sihon King of Heshbon, destroying euery citie, with men, women, and children.
Comme nous avions détruit celles de Séhon, roi d'Esebon; nous détruisîmes tour à tour chaque ville, nous exterminâmes femmes et enfants,
7 But all the cattell and the spoyle of the cities we tooke for our selues.
Ainsi que tout le bétail. Et nous prîmes pour notre butin toute la dépouille des villes.
8 Thus we tooke at that time out of the hand of two Kings of the Amorites, the land that was on this side Iorden from the riuer of Arnon vnto mount Hermon:
En ce temps nous devînmes maîtres, à la place des deux rois amorrhéens, de toute la rive gauche du Jourdain, depuis le torrent d'Arnon jusqu'à Hermon.
9 (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Shirion, but the Amorites call it Shenir)
(Les Phéniciens nomment Hermon Sanior, et les Amorrhéens Sanir.)
10 All the cities of the plaine, and all Gilead, and all Bashan vnto Salchah, and Edrei, cities of the kingdome of Og in Bashan.
Nous prîmes toutes les villes de Misor avec tout Galaad, et tout Basan, jusqu'à Esga et Edraï, villes du royaume de Og en Basan.
11 For onely Og King of Bashan remained of the remnant of the gyants, whose bed was a bed of yron: is it not at Rabbath among the children of Ammon? the length thereof is nine cubites, and foure cubites the breadth of it, after the cubite of a man.
Og, roi de Basan, était seul resté de la race de Raphaïm: son lit était de fer; on le voit dans la citadelle des fils d'Ammon; il a de long neuf coudées d'homme adulte sur quatre de large.
12 And this land which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the riuer of Arnon, and halfe mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gaue I vnto the Reubenites and Gadites.
Et nous héritâmes de cette terre en ce temps-là, à partir d'Aroer, qui est sur le bord du torrent d'Arnon: j'ai donné à Ruben et à Gad la moitié de la montagne de Galaad et ses villes.
13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdome of Og, gaue I vnto the halfe tribe of Manasseh: euen all the countrey of Argob with all Bashan, which is called, The land of gyants.
J'ai donné à la demi-tribu de Manassé le reste de Galaad, et tout Basan, royaume de Og, et tout le territoire d'Argob, toute cette partie de Basan; cette terre est réputée terre de Raphaïm.
14 Iair the sonne of Manasseh tooke all the countrey of Argob, vnto the coastes of Geshuri, and of Maachathi: and called them after his owne name, Bashan, Hauoth Iair vnto this day.
Jair, fils de Manassé, a pris tous les alentours d'Argob jusqu'aux confins de Gessari et de Machathi, et il leur a donné, d'après son nom, le nom de Thanoth-Jaïr, que porte aujourd'hui le royaume de Basan.
15 And I gaue part of Gilead vnto Machir.
Et j'ai donné Galaad à Machir.
16 And vnto the Reubenites and Gadites I gaue the rest of Gilead, and vnto the riuer of Arnon, halfe the riuer and the borders, euen vnto the riuer Iabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon:
A Ruben et à Gad, j'ai donné le territoire au-dessous de Galaad, jusqu'au torrent d'Arnon; ils ont pour limite, de ce côté, le milieu du torrent, et ils s'étendent jusqu'à Jaboc; le torrent les sépare des fils d'Ammon.
17 The plaine also and Iorden, and the borders from Chinneereth euen vnto the Sea of the plaine, to wit, the salt Sea vnder the springs of Pisgah Eastwarde.
Ils ont en outre Araba; et la limite qui les sépare de Machénéreth est le Jourdain, jusqu'à la mer d'Araba ou mer Salée, sous Asedoth ou Phasga, du coté de l'orient;
18 And I commanded you the same time, saying, The Lord your God hath giuen you this lande to possesse it: ye shall goe ouer armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all men of warre.
Or, en ce temps, je vous dis: Le Seigneur notre Dieu vous a donné cette terre en partage; mais que vos hommes forts prennent les armes, qu'ils marchent à l'avant-garde de vos frères, fils d'Israël;
19 Your wiues onely, and your children, and your cattel (for I know that ye haue much cattel) shall abide in your cities, which I haue giuen you,
Que vos femmes, vos enfants et votre bétail, que je sais être très- nombreux, demeurent seuls dans les villes que je vous ai données.
20 Vntill the Lord haue giuen rest vnto your brethren as vnto you, and that they also possesse the lande, which the Lord your God hath giuen them beyond Iorden: then shall ye returne euery man vnto his possession, which I haue giuen you.
Jusqu'à ce que le Seigneur notre Dieu ait établi et fixé vos frères comme vous, et qu'ils se soient pareillement partagé le territoire que le Seigneur notre Dieu leur donne au delà du Jourdain; alors vous reviendrez chacun dans l'héritage que je vous ai distribué.
21 And I charged Ioshua the same time, saying, Thine eyes haue seene all that the Lord your God hath done vnto these two Kings: so shall the Lord doe vnto all the kingdomes whither thou goest.
Et en ce temps-là, je dis à Josué: Le peuple a vu de ses yeux comment le Seigneur notre Dieu a traité ces deux rois; c'est ainsi que le Seigneur notre Dieu traitera tous les royaumes contre lesquels tu marcheras de l'autre côté du fleuve.
22 Ye shall not feare them: for the Lord your God, he shall fight for you.
N'aie d'eux aucune crainte, parce que le Seigneur notre Dieu combattra pour vous.
23 And I besought the Lord the same time, saying,
Et, en ce temps-là, je fis au Seigneur cette prière:
24 O Lord God, thou hast begunne to shewe thy seruant thy greatnesse and thy mightie hande: for where is there a God in heauen or in earth, that can do like thy workes, and like thy power?
Seigneur Dieu, vous avez commencé à montrer à votre serviteur, votre force, votre puissance, votre main robuste et votre bras très-haut; car quel dieu y a-t-il dans le ciel et sur la terre pour faire ce que vous avez fait, et avec autant de vigueur?
25 I pray thee let me go ouer and see the good land that is beyond Iorden, that goodly mountaine, and Lebanon.
Je passerai donc le fleuve, et je verrai cette bonne terre au delà du Jourdain, cette montagne fertile et l'Anti-Liban?
26 But the Lord was angrie with me for your sakes, and would not heare me: and the Lord said vnto me, Let it suffice thee, speake no more vnto me of this matter.
Mais le Seigneur, à cause de vous, ne me regarda point, il ne m'exauça pas; il me dit: C'est assez, ne continue pas un tel discours.
27 Get thee vp into the top of Pisgah, and lift vp thine eyes Westward, and Northwarde, and Southward, and Eastward, and behold it with thine eyes, for thou shalt not goe ouer this Iorden:
Monte sur la cime du roc, lève les yeux à l'occident, au nord, au midi et à l'orient, vois de tes yeux, mais tu ne passeras pas le Jourdain,
28 But charge Ioshua, and incourage him, and bolden him: for hee shall goe before this people, and he shall deuide for inheritance vnto them, the land which thou shalt see.
Donne mes ordres à Josué; fortifie-le, et encourage-le; car c'est lui qui traversera le fleuve devant le peuple; c'est lui qui leur partagera la terre que tu auras vue.
29 So wee abode in the valley ouer against Beth-Peor.
Et nous campâmes dans la vallée près du temple de Phégor.
