Deuteronomy 2
1 Then we turned, and tooke our iourney into the wildernes, by the way of the red Sea, as the Lord spake vnto me: and we compassed mount Seir a long time.
૧પછી યહોવાહે મૂસા સાથે આ પ્રમાણે વાત કર્યું. યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું હતું તે મુજબ અમે પાછા ફરીને લાલ સમુદ્રને માર્ગે અરણ્યમાં ચાલ્યા. ઘણાં દિવસો સુધી અમે સેઈર પર્વતની આસપાસ ફરતા રહ્યા.
2 And the Lord spake vnto me, saying,
૨પછી યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું, કે,
3 Ye haue compassed this mountaine long ynough: turne you Northward.
૩“આ પર્વતની આસપાસ તમે લાંબો સમય ફર્યા છો, હવે ઉત્તર તરફ પાછા વળો.
4 And warne thou the people, saying, Ye shall go through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir, and they shall be afraide of you: take ye good heede therefore.
૪લોકોને આજ્ઞા કરીને કહે, તમે સેઈરમાં રહેનારા તમારા ભાઈઓ, એટલે કે એસાવના વંશજોની હદમાં થઈને પસાર થવાના છો. તેઓ તમારાથી ડરી જશે. માટે તમે કાળજી રાખજો.
5 Ye shall not prouoke them: for I wil not giue you of their land so much as a foot breadth, because I haue giuen mount Seir vnto Esau for a possession.
૫તેઓની સાથે યુદ્ધ કરશો નહિ, કેમ કે તેઓના દેશમાંથી હું તમને કંઈપણ આપીશ નહિ, પગ મૂકવા જેટલું પણ આપીશ નહિ. કેમ કે મેં સેઈર પર્વત એસાવને વતન તરીકે આપ્યો છે.
6 Ye shall buy meate of them for money to eate, and ye shall also procure water of them for money to drinke.
૬નાણાં આપીને તેઓની પાસેથી ખોરાક ખરીદો, જેથી તમે ખાઈ શકો; પાણી પણ નાણાં આપીને ખરીદો, જેથી તમે પી શકો.
7 For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the workes of thine hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wildernes, and the Lord thy God hath bene with thee this fourtie yeere, and thou hast lacked nothing.
૭કેમ કે ઈશ્વર તમારા યહોવાહે તમારા હાથનાં બધાં જ કાર્યોમાં તમને આશીર્વાદ આપ્યો છે, આ મોટા અરણ્યમાં તમારું ચાલવું તેમણે જાણ્યું છે. કેમ કે આ ચાળીસ વર્ષ ઈશ્વર તમારા યહોવાહ તમારી સાથે રહ્યા, તમને કશાની ખોટ પડી નથી.’”
8 And when we were departed from our brethren the children of Esau which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plaine, from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and went by the way of the wildernes of Moab.
૮જેથી અમે આપણા સેઈરવાસી ભાઈઓ એટલે કે એસાવના વંશજોના દેશમાંથી પસાર થયા, અરાબાના માર્ગે થઈને એલાથ તથા એસ્યોન-ગેબેરથી ગયા. અને અમે પાછા વળીને મોઆબના અરણ્યના માર્ગે ચાલ્યા.
9 Then the Lord sayd vnto me, Thou shalt not vexe Moab, neither prouoke them to battel: for I wil not giue thee of their land for a possession, because I haue giuen Ar vnto the children of Lot for a possession.
૯યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું કે, “મોઆબને સતાવશો નહિ, તેમની સાથે યુદ્ધમાં લડશો નહિ. કેમ કે, તેઓના દેશમાંથી હું તમને વતન આપીશ નહિ, કેમ કે, આર તો મેં લોતના વંશજોને વતન તરીકે આપ્યું છે.”
10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great and many, and tall, as the Anakims.
૧૦અગાઉ એમીઓ ત્યાં રહેતા હતા. તેઓની વસ્તી ઘણી હતી અને તેઓ અનાકીઓ જેવા ઊંચા તથા કદાવર હતા.
11 They also were taken for gyants as the Anakims: whom the Moabites call Emims.
૧૧અનાકીઓની જેમ તેઓ પણ રફાઇમીઓ ગણાય છે; પણ મોઆબીઓ તેઓને એમીઓ કહે છે.
12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir before time, whome the children of Esau chased out and destroyed them before them, and dwelt in their steade: as Israel shall doe vnto the land of his possession, which the Lord hath giuen them.
૧૨અગાઉ હોરીઓ પણ સેઈરમાં રહેતા હતા, પણ એસાવપુત્રો તેઓની જગ્યાએ આવ્યા. તેઓ પોતાની આગળથી તેઓનો નાશ કરીને તેઓની જગ્યાએ વસ્યા. જેમ ઇઝરાયલે જે દેશ યહોવાહે તેઓને વતનને માટે આપ્યો તેને કર્યું હતું તેમ જ.
13 Now rise vp, sayd I, and get you ouer the riuer Zered: and we went ouer the riuer Zered.
૧૩“હવે ઊઠો અને ઝેરેદનું નાળું ઊતરો.” તેથી આપણે ઝેરેદનું નાળું ઊતર્યા.
14 The space also wherein we came from Kadesh-barnea, vntill we were come ouer the riuer Zered, was eight and thirtie yeeres, vntill all the generation of the men of warre were wasted out from among the hoste, as the Lord sware vnto them.
૧૪આપણે કાદેશ બાર્નેઆથી નીકળીને ઝેરેદનું નાળું ઊતર્યા ત્યાં સુધીમાં આડત્રીસ વર્ષ પસાર થયા. તે સમયે લડવૈયા માણસોની આખી પેઢી, યહોવાહે તેઓને પ્રતિજ્ઞાપૂર્વક કહ્યું હતું તે પ્રમાણે નાશ પામી હતી.
15 For in deede the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from among the hoste, till they were consumed.
૧૫વળી તેઓ બધા નાશ પામે ત્યાં સુધી છાવણી મધ્યેથી તેઓનો નાશ કરવા સારુ યહોવાહનો હાથ તેઓની વિરુદ્ધ હતો.
16 So when all the men of warre were consumed and dead from among the people:
૧૬હવે લોકોમાંથી સર્વ લડવૈયાઓ નાશ પામ્યા તથા મરી ગયા ત્યાર પછી,
17 Then the Lord spake vnto me, saying,
૧૭યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું કે,
18 Thou shalt goe through Ar the coast of Moab this day:
૧૮તું આજે આર એટલે કે મોઆબની સરહદ પાર કરવાનો છે;
19 And thou shalt come neere ouer against the children of Ammon: but shalt not lay siege vnto them, nor moue warre against them: for I will not giue thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession: for I haue giuen it vnto the children of Lot for a possession.
૧૯અને જયારે તું આમ્મોનપુત્રોની નજીક આવે ત્યારે તેઓને સતાવીશ નહિ કે તેઓની સાથે લડીશ પણ નહિ; કારણ કે, હું તમને આમ્મોનપુત્રોના દેશમાંથી વતન આપવાનો નથી. કેમ કે મેં તે પ્રદેશ વતન તરીકે લોતપુત્રોને આપ્યો છે.”
20 That also was taken for a land of gyants: for gyants dwelt therein afore time, whome the Ammonites called Zamzummims:
૨૦તે પણ રફાઈઓનો દેશ ગણાય છે; અગાઉ રફાઈઓ તેમાં રહેતા હતા. જો કે આમ્મોનીઓ તેઓને ઝામઝુમીઓ એવું નામ આપે છે.
21 A people that was great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims: but the Lord destroyed them before them, and they succeeded them in their inheritance, and dwelt in their stead:
૨૧તે લોક પણ અનાકીઓની જેમ બળવાન તથા કદાવર હતા. તેઓની સંખ્યા ઘણી હતી; પરંતુ યહોવાહે આમ્મોનીઓ આગળથી તેઓનો નાશ કર્યો અને તેઓ તેઓના વતનમાં દાખલ થઈને તેઓની જગ્યાએ વસ્યા.
22 As he did to the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims before them, and they possessed them, and dwelt in their stead vnto this day.
૨૨જેમ હોરીઓનો નાશ કરીને યહોવાહે સેઈરવાસી એસાવપુત્રો માટે કર્યું હતું તેમ જ; અને તેઓએ તેઓનું વતન લઈ લીધું. અને તેઓની જગ્યાએ તેઓ આજ સુધી વસ્યા.
23 And the Auims which dwelt in Hazarim euen vnto Azzah, the Caphtorims which came out of Caphtor destroyed them, and dwelt in their steade.
૨૩અને આવ્વીઓ જેઓ ગાઝા સુધીના ગામોમાં રહેતા હતા, તેઓનો કાફતોરીઓએ કાફતોરીમમાંથી ધસી આવીને નાશ કર્યો અને તેઓની જગ્યાએ રહ્યા.
24 Rise vp therefore, sayd the Lord: take your iourney, and passe ouer the riuer Arnon: beholde, I haue giuen into thy hand Sihon, the Amorite, King of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possesse it and prouoke him to battell.
૨૪“હવે તમે ઊઠો, આગળ ચાલો અને આર્નોનની ખીણ ઓળંગો; જુઓ, મેં હેશ્બોનના રાજા અમોરી સીહોનને તેમ જ તેના દેશને તમારા હાથમાં સોંપી દીધો છે. તેનું વતન જીતવાનું શરૂ કરો અને તેની સાથે યુદ્ધ કરો.
25 This day wil I begin to send thy feare and thy dread, vpon all people vnder the whole heauen, which shall heare thy fame, and shall tremble and quake before thee.
૨૫હું આજથી આકાશ નીચેની સર્વ પ્રજાઓ પર તમારો ડર તથા ધાક એવો બેસાડીશ કે તેઓ તમારી ખ્યાતી સાંભળી ધ્રૂજશે અને તીવ્ર વેદનાથી દુઃખી થશે.”
26 Then I sent messengers out of the wildernes of Kedemoth vnto Sihon King of Heshbon, with wordes of peace, saying,
૨૬અને કદેમોથના અરણ્યમાંથી મેં હેશ્બોનના રાજા સીહોન પાસે સંદેશવાહકો મોકલ્યા કે, તેઓ શાંતિનો સંદેશો લઈને કહે કે,
27 Let me passe through thy land: I will go by the hie way: I will neither turne vnto the right hand nor to the left.
૨૭“અમને તારા દેશમાં થઈને જવા દે; અમે રસ્તે જ ચાલીશું; ડાબે કે જમણે હાથે વળીશું નહિ.
28 Thou shalt sell me meate for money, for to eate, and shalt giue me water for money for to drinke: onely I will go through on my foote,
૨૮ખાવાને માટે અન્ન અમને પૈસા લઈને વેચાતું આપજે જેથી અમે ખાઈએ; પીવાને પાણી પણ તું મને પૈસા લઈને આપજે જેથી હું પીવું; ફક્ત તારા દેશમાંથી થઈને અમને પગે ચાલીને જવા દે;
29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did vnto me) vntill I be come ouer Iorden, into the land which the Lord our God giueth vs.
૨૯જ્યાં સુધી અમે યર્દન નદી ઓળંગીને અમારા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ અમને જે દેશ આપવાના છે ત્યાં પહોંચીએ ત્યાં સુધી જેમ સેઈરમાં વસતા એસાવપુત્રો તથા આરમાં વસતા મોઆબીઓ મારી સાથે વર્ત્યા તેમ તું અમારી સાથે વર્તજે.”
30 But Sihon the King of Heshbon would not let vs passe by him: for the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, because hee would deliuer him into thine hand, as appeareth this day.
૩૦પરંતુ હેશ્બોનના રાજા સીહોને આપણને પોતાના દેશમાં થઈને જવા દેવાની ના પાડી; કેમ કે ઈશ્વર તમારા યહોવાહ તેનું મન કઠણ અને હૃદય હઠીલું કર્યું હતું કે તે તેને તારા હાથમાં સોંપે, જેમ આજે છે તેમ.
31 And the Lord sayd vnto me, Beholde, I haue begun to giue Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possesse and inherite his land.
૩૧અને યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું, ‘જો મેં સીહોનને તથા તેના દેશને તને સ્વાધીન કરવાનો આરંભ કર્યો છે. વતન પ્રાપ્ત કરવાનું શરૂ કર કે જેથી તું તે દેશનો વારસો પામે.”
32 Then came out Sihon to meete vs, him selfe with all his people to fight at Iahaz.
૩૨“ત્યારે સીહોન તથા તેના સર્વ લોક યાહાસ આગળ આપણી સામે લડાઈ કરવાને બહાર નીકળી આવ્યા.
33 But the Lord our God deliuered him into our power, and we smote him, and his sonnes, and all his people.
૩૩પરંતુ આપણા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહે તેને આપણને સ્વાધીન કરી દીધો. અને આપણે તેને તથા તેના પુત્રોને તથા તેના સર્વ લોકોને હરાવ્યા.
34 And we tooke all his cities the same time, and destroyed euery citie, men, and women, and children: we let nothing remaine.
૩૪આપણે તેનાં સર્વ નગરો જીતી લીધા. અને વસ્તીવાળાં સર્વ નગરોનો, તેઓની સ્ત્રીઓ તથા બાળકો શુદ્ધા તેઓનો પૂરો નાશ કર્યો. કોઈને પણ જીવતા રહેવા દીધા નહિ.
35 Onely the cattell we tooke to our selues, and the spoyle of the cities which we tooke,
૩૫ફક્ત જે નગરો આપણે જીતી લીધાં હતાં તેમની લૂંટ સાથે આપણે પોતાને સારુ જાનવરો લીધા.
36 From Aroer, which is by the banke of the riuer of Arnon, and from the citie that is vpon the riuer, euen vnto Gilead: there was not one citie that escaped vs: for the Lord our God deliuered vp all before vs.
૩૬આર્નોનની ખીણની સરહદ પર આવેલા અરોએર તથા ખીણની અંદરના નગરથી માંડીને ગિલ્યાદ સુધી એક પણ નગર એવું મજબૂત નહોતું કે આપણાથી જિતાય નહિ. ઈશ્વર આપણા યહોવાહે આપણા સર્વ શત્રુઓ પર વિજય આપ્યો.
37 Onely vnto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor vnto any place of the riuer Iabbok, nor vnto the cities in the mountaines, nor vnto whatsoeuer the Lord our God forbade vs.
૩૭ફક્ત આમ્મોનપુત્રોના દેશની નજીક તથા યાબ્બોક નદીના કાંઠા પરનો આખો પ્રદેશ, પર્વતીય પ્રદેશના નગરો તથા જે જગ્યા વિષે આપણા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહે આપણને મના કરી હતી ત્યાં આપણે ગયા જ નહિ.
