Deuteronomy 18

1 The Priests of the Leuites, and all the tribe of Leui shall haue no part nor inheritace with Israel, but shall eate the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his inheritance.

Levitpræsterne, hele Levis Stamme, skal ikke have arvelod og Del sammen med det øvrige Israel, men leve af HERRENS Ildofre og af det, der tilfalder ham.

2 Therefore shall they haue no inheritance among their brethren: for the Lord is their inheritance, as he hath sayd vnto them.

Han maa ikke eje nogen Arvelod blandt sine Brødre; HERREN er hans Arvelod, som han lovede ham.

3 And this shalbe the Priests duetie of the people, that they, which offer sacrifice, whether it be bullocke or sheepe, shall giue vnto the Priest the shoulder, and the two cheekes, and the mawe.

Og dette skal være den Ret, Præsterne har Krav paa hos Folket, hos dem, der slagter Ofre, være sig Okser eller Smaakvæg: Han skal give Præsten Boven, Kæberne og Kallunet.

4 The first fruites also of thy corne, of thy wine, and of thine oyle, and the first of the fleece of thy sheepe shalt thou giue him.

Det første af dit Korn, din Most og din Olie og den første Uld af dine Faar skal du give ham.

5 For the Lord thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stande and minister in the Name of the Lord, him, and his sonnes for euer.

Thi ham har HERREN din Gud udvalgt blandt alle dine Stammer, saa at han og hans Sønner altid skal gøre Præstetjeneste i HERRENS Navn.

6 Also when a Leuite shall come out of any of thy cities of all Israel, where hee remained, and come with all the desire of his heart vnto the place, which the Lord shall chuse,

Naar en Levit inden dine Porte et steds i Israel, hvor han har haft sit Ophold, kommer til det Sted, HERREN udvælger — det staar ham frit for at komme, hvis han vil —

7 He shall then minister in the Name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Leuites, which remaine there before the Lord.

maa han gøre Præstetjeneste i HERREN sin Guds Navn, lige saa vel som alle hans Brødre, de andre Leviter, der staar for HERRENS Aasyn der.

8 They shall haue like portions to eat beside that which commeth of his sale of his patrimonie.

De skal nyde samme Ret, fraregnet hvad enhver er kommet til ved Salg af sin Fædrenearv.

9 When thou shalt come into ye land which the Lord thy God giueth thee, thou shalt not learne to do after ye abominations of those nations.

Naar du kommer ind i det Land, HERREN din Gud vil give dig, maa du ikke lære at efterligne disse Folks Vederstyggeligheder.

10 Let none be founde among you that maketh his sonne or his daughter to goe thorough the fire, or that vseth witchcraft, or a regarder of times, or a marker of the flying of foules, or a sorcerer,

Der maa ingen findes hos dig, som lader sin Søn eller Datter gaa igennem Ilden, ingen, som driver Spaadomskunst, tager Varsler, er Sandsiger eller øver Trolddom,

11 Or a charmer, or that counselleth with spirits, or a soothsaier, or that asketh counsel at ye dead.

ingen, som foretager Besværgelse eller gør Spørgsmaal til Genfærd og Sandsigeraander og henvender sig til de døde;

12 For all that doe such things are abomination vnto the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doeth cast them out before thee.

thi enhver, der gør sligt, er HERREN vederstyggelig, og for disse Vederstyggeligheders Skyld er det, at HERREN din Gud driver dem bort foran dig.

13 Thou shalt be vpright therefore with the Lord thy God.

Ustraffelig skal du være for HERREN din Gud.

14 For these nations which thou shalt possesse, hearken vnto those that regarde the times, and vnto sorcerers: as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffred thee so.

Thi disse Folk, som du skal drive bort, hører paa dem, der tager Varsler og driver Spaadomskunst; men sligt har HERREN din Gud ikke tilladt dig.

15 The Lord thy God will raise vp vnto thee a Prophet like vnto me, from among you, euen of thy brethren: vnto him ye shall hearken,

HERREN din Gud vil lade en Profet som mig fremstaa af din Midte, af dine Brødre; ham skal I høre paa.

16 According to al that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb, in the day of the assemblie, when thou saidest, Let me heare the voice of my Lord God no more, nor see this great fire any more, that I die not.

Saaledes udbad du dig det jo af HERREN din Gud ved Horeb, den Dag I var forsamlede, da du sagde: »Lad mig ikke mere høre HERREN min Guds Røst og se denne vældige Ild, at jeg ikke skal dø!«

17 And the Lord sayde vnto me, They haue well spoken.

Da sagde HERREN til mig: »De har talt rettelig!

18 I will raise them vp a Prophet from among their brethren like vnto thee, and will put my woordes in his mouth, and he shall speake vnto them all that I shall commaund him.

Jeg vil lade en Profet som dig fremstaa for dem af deres Brødre og lægge mine Ord i hans Mund, og han skal sige dem alt, hvad jeg byder ham!

19 And whosoeuer will not hearken vnto my wordes, which he shall speake in my Name, I will require it of him.

Og enhver, der ikke vil høre mine Ord, som han taler i mit Navn, ham vil jeg kræve til Regnskab.

20 But the prophet that shall presume to speake a worde in my name, which I haue not commanded him to speake, or that speaketh in the name of other gods, euen the same prophet shall die.

Men den Profet, der formaster sig til at tale noget i mit Navn, som jeg ikke har paalagt ham at tale, eller taler i en anden Guds Navn, den Profet skal dø!«

21 And if thou thinke in thine heart, Howe shall we knowe the worde which the Lord hath not spoken?

Og hvis du tænker ved dig selv: »Hvorledes skal vi kende det Ord, HERREN ikke har talt?«

22 When a prophet speaketh in the Name of the Lord, if the thing follow not nor come to passe, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not therefore be afraid of him.

saa vid: Hvad en Profet taler i HERRENS Navn, uden at det sker og indtræffer, det er noget, HERREN ikke har talt. I Formastelighed har Profeten udtalt det, og du skal ikke være bange for ham!
