Deuteronomy 15
1 At the terme of seuen yeeres thou shalt make a freedome.
"Tous les sept ans, tu pratiqueras la loi de rémission.
2 And this is the maner of the freedome: euery creditour shall quite ye lone of his hand which he hath lent to his neighbour: he shall not aske it againe of his neighbour, nor of his brother: for the yeere of the Lords freedome is proclaimed.
Voici le sens de cette rémission: tout créancier doit faire remise de sa créance, de ce qu’il aura prêté à son prochain. Il n’exercera pas de contrainte contre son prochain et son frère, dès qu’on a proclamé la rémission en l’honneur du Seigneur.
3 Of a stranger thou mayest require it: but that which thou hast with thy brother, thine hand shall remit:
L’Étranger, tu peux le contraindre; mais ce que ton frère aura à toi, que ta main l’abandonne.
4 Saue when there shall be no poore with thee: for the Lord shall blesse thee in the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee, for an inheritance to possesse it:
A la vérité, il ne doit pas y avoir d’indigent chez toi; car l’Éternel veut te bénir dans ce pays que lui, ton Dieu, te destine comme héritage pour le posséder.
5 So that thou hearken vnto the voyce of the Lord thy God to obserue and doe all these commandements, which I commande thee this day.
Mais c’est quand tu obéiras à la voix de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, en observant avec soin toute cette loi que je t’impose en ce jour.
6 For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee, as he hath promised thee: and thou shalt lend vnto many nations, but thou thy selfe shalt not borow, and thou shalt reigne ouer many nations, and they shall not reigne ouer thee.
Car alors l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira comme il te l’a promis; et tu pourras prêter à bien des peuples, mais tu n’emprunteras point; et tu domineras sur bien des peuples, mais on ne dominera pas sur toi.
7 If one of thy brethren with thee be poore within any of thy gates in thy land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poore brother:
Que s’il y a chez toi un indigent, d’entre tes frères, dans l’une de tes villes, au pays que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te destine, tu n’endurciras point ton cœur, ni ne fermeras ta main à ton frère nécessiteux.
8 But thou shalt open thine hand vnto him, and shalt lend him sufficient for his neede which he hath.
Ouvre-lui plutôt ta main! Prête-lui en raison de ses besoins, de ce qui peut lui manquer!
9 Beware that there be not a wicked thought in thine heart, to say, The seuenth yeere, the yeere of freedome is at hand: therefore it grieueth thee to looke on thy poore brother, and thou giuest him nought, and he crie vnto the Lord against thee, so that sinne be in thee:
Garde-toi de nourrir une pensée perverse en ton cœur, en te disant "que la septième année, l’année de rémission approche," et, sans pitié pour ton frère nécessiteux, de lui refuser ton secours: il se plaindrait de toi au Seigneur, et tu te rendrais coupable d’un péché,
10 Thou shalt giue him, and let it not grieue thine heart to giue vnto him: for because of this the Lord thy God shall blesse thee in al thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand to.
Non! Il faut lui donner, et lui donner sans que ton cœur le regrette; car, pour prix de cette conduite, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira dans ton labeur et dans toutes les entreprises de ta main.
11 Because there shall be euer some poore in the land, therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand vnto thy brother, to thy needie, and to thy poore in thy land.
Or, il y aura toujours des nécessiteux dans le pays; c’est pourquoi, je te fais cette recommandation: ouvre, ouvre ta main à ton frère, au pauvre, au nécessiteux qui sera dans ton pays!
12 If thy brother an Ebrewe sell himselfe to thee, or an Ebrewesse, and serue thee sixe yeere, euen in the seuenth yeere thou shalt let him goe free from thee:
Si un Hébreu, ton frère, ou une femme hébreue te sont vendus, ils te serviront six ans; et la septième année tu les renverras, libres, de chez toi.
13 And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him goe away emptie,
Or, en libérant cet esclave de ton service, ne le renvoie pas les mains vides,
14 But shalt giue him a liberall reward of thy sheepe, and of thy corne, and of thy wine: thou shalt giue him of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee.
mais donne-lui des présents, de ton menu bétail, de ta grange et de ton pressoir; ce dont l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’aura favorisé, fais-lui-en part.
15 And remember that thou wast a seruant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God deliuered thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.
Souviens-toi que tu fus esclave au pays d’Egypte, et que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a affranchi; c’est pourquoi je te prescris aujourd’hui ce commandement.
16 And if he say vnto thee, I will not go away from thee, because he loueth thee and thine house, and because he is well with thee,
Il peut arriver que l’esclave te dise: "Je ne veux point te quitter," attaché qu’il sera à toi et à ta maison, parce qu’il aura été heureux chez toi;
17 Then shalt thou take a naule, and perce his eare through against the doore, and he shall be thy seruant for euer: and vnto thy maid seruant thou shall doe likewise.
alors tu prendras un poinçon, tu en perceras son oreille contre la porte, et il restera ton esclave indéfiniment. Tu en useras de même pour ta servante.
18 Let it not grieue thee, when thou lettest him goe out free from thee: for he hath serued thee sixe yeeres, which is the double worth of an hired seruant: and the Lord thy God shall blesse thee in all that thou doest.
Qu’il ne t’en coûte pas trop de le renvoyer libre de chez toi, car il a gagné deux fois le salaire d’un mercenaire en te servant six années: et l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira dans toutes tes entreprises.
19 All the first borne males that come of thy cattell, and of thy sheepe, thou shalt sanctifie vnto the Lord thy God. Thou shalt do no worke with thy first borne bullocke, nor sheare thy first borne sheepe.
Tous les premiers-nés mâles de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, tu les consacreras à l’Éternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras point travailler le premier-né de ton gros bétail, et tu ne tondras point le premier-né de tes brebis.
20 Thou shalt eate it before the Lord thy God yeere by yeere, in the place which the Lord shall chose, both thou, and thine household.
C’Est devant l’Éternel, ton Dieu, à l’endroit qu’il aura choisi, que tu le consommeras annuellement, toi et ta famille.
21 But if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or haue any euill fault, thou shalt not offer it vnto the Lord thy God,
Que s’il a un défaut, s’il est boiteux ou aveugle, ou s’il a quelque autre vice grave, ne l’immole pas à l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
22 But shalt eate it within thy gates: the vncleane, and the cleane shall eate it alike, as the roe bucke, and as the hart.
Consomme-le dans tes villes, l’homme pur et l’impur le mangeront indistinctement comme le chevreuil et le cerf.
23 Onely thou shalt not eate the blood thereof, but powre it vpon the ground as water.
Seulement, tu n’en mangeras point le sang, tu le répandras à terre comme de l’eau.
