Deuteronomy 13
1 If there arise amog you a prophet or a dreamer of dreames, (and giue thee a signe or wonder,
S'il s'élève parmi vous un prophète ou un songeur, qui vous annonce un signe ou un prodige,
2 And the signe and the wonder, which hee hath tolde thee, come to passe) saying, Let vs go after other gods, which thou hast not knowen, and let vs serue them,
et que s'accomplisse le signe ou le prodige dont il vous a parlé en disant: « Allons après d'autres dieux » (que vous n'avez pas connus) « et servons-les »,
3 Thou shalt not hearken vnto the wordes of the prophet, or vnto that dreamer of dreames: for the Lord your God prooueth you, to knowe whether ye loue the Lord your God with al your heart, and with all your soule.
vous n'écouterez pas les paroles de ce prophète ou de ce songeur, car l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous éprouve pour savoir si vous aimez l'Éternel, votre Dieu, de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.
4 Yee shall walke after the Lord your God and feare him, and shall keepe his commandements, and hearken vnto his voyce, and yee shall serue him, and cleaue vnto him.
Tu marcheras après l'Éternel, ton Dieu, tu le craindras, tu observeras ses commandements et tu obéiras à sa voix. Tu le serviras et tu t'attacheras à lui.
5 But that prophet, or that dreamer of dreames, he shall be slaine, because hee hath spoken to turne you away from the Lord your God (which brought you out of the lande of Egypt, and deliuered you out of the house of bodage) to thrust thee out of the way, wherein the Lord thy God commanded thee to walke: so shalt thou take the euill away foorth of the middes of thee.
Ce prophète, ou ce songeur, sera mis à mort, parce qu'il a parlé de rébellion contre l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte et t'a racheté de la maison de servitude, pour te détourner de la voie dans laquelle l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a ordonné de marcher. Tu ôteras donc le mal du milieu de toi.
6 If thy brother, the sonne of thy mother, or thine owne sonne, or thy daughter, or the wife, that lyeth in thy bosome, or thy friend, which is as thine owne soule, intice thee secretly, saying, Let vs goe and serue other gods, (which thou hast not knowen, thou, I say, nor thy fathers)
Si ton frère, fils de ta mère, ou ton fils, ou ta fille, ou la femme de ton sein, ou ton ami qui est comme ta propre âme, t'attire secrètement en disant: « Allons servir d'autres dieux » - que tu n'as pas connus, ni toi, ni tes pères;
7 Any of the gods of the people which are round about you, neere vnto thee or farre off from thee, from the one ende of the earth vnto ye other:
des dieux des peuples qui sont autour de toi, près de toi ou loin de toi, d'une extrémité de la terre à l'autre extrémité de la terre -
8 Thou shalt not cosent vnto him, nor heare him, neither shall thine eye pitie him, nor shewe mercie, nor keepe him secret:
tu ne lui consentiras pas et tu ne l'écouteras pas; ton œil n'aura pas pitié de lui, tu ne l'épargneras pas et tu ne le cacheras pas,
9 But thou shalt euen kill him: thine hand shall be first vpon him to put him to death, and then the handes of all the people.
mais tu le tueras. Ta main sera la première sur lui pour le faire mourir, et ensuite les mains de tout le peuple.
10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he dye (because he hath gone about to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of ye land of Egypt, from ye house of bondage)
Vous le lapiderez à mort, parce qu'il a cherché à vous détourner de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude.
11 That all Israel may heare and feare, and doe no more any such wickednesse as this among you.
Tout Israël entendra et craindra, et il ne commettra plus de méchanceté comme celle-là au milieu de vous.
12 If thou shalt heare say (concerning any of thy cities which the Lord thy God hath giuen thee to dwell in)
Si tu apprends, au sujet d'une de tes villes, que Yahvé, ton Dieu, te donne pour y habiter, que
13 Wicked men are gone out from among you, and haue drawen away the inhabitants of their citie, saying, Let vs go and serue other gods, which ye haue not knowen,
certains méchants sont sortis du milieu de toi et ont entraîné les habitants de leur ville, en disant: « Allons servir d'autres dieux », que tu n'as pas connus,
14 Then thou shalt seeke, and make searche and enquire diligently: and if it be true, and the thing certaine, that such abomination is wrought among you,
alors tu t'informeras, tu enquêteras et tu demanderas avec soin. S'il est vrai, et si la chose est certaine, qu'une telle abomination a été commise au milieu de vous,
15 Thou shalt euen slay the inhabitants of that citie with the edge of the sworde: destroy it vtterly, and all that is therein, and the cattel thereof with the edge of the sworde.
vous frapperez du tranchant de l'épée les habitants de cette ville, et vous la détruirez entièrement, avec tout ce qu'elle contient et son bétail.
16 And thou shalt gather all the spoyle of it into the middes of the streete thereof, and burne with fire the citie and all the spoyle thereof euery whit, vnto the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heape for euer: it shall not be built againe.
Tu rassembleras tout son butin au milieu de sa rue, et tu brûleras au feu la ville et tout son butin pour Yahvé, ton Dieu. Elle sera à jamais un monceau de ruines. Elle ne sera pas rebâtie.
17 And there shall cleaue nothing of ye damned thing to thine hand, that the Lord may turne from the fiercenes of his wrath, and shewe thee mercie, and haue compassion on thee and multiplie thee, as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers:
Rien de ce qui sera dévoré ne s'attachera à ta main, afin que l'Éternel revienne de l'ardeur de sa colère et te fasse miséricorde, qu'il ait pitié de toi et te multiplie, comme il l'a juré à tes pères,
18 When thou shalt obey the voyce of the Lord thy God, and keepe all his commandements which I command thee this day, that thou do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.
quand tu écouteras la voix de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour observer tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui, pour faire ce qui est bien aux yeux de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.
