Deuteronomy 11
1 Therefore thou shalt loue the Lord thy God, and shalt keepe that, which he commandeth to be kept: that is, his ordinances, and his lawes, and his commandements alway.
Ama dunque il Signore tuo Dio e osserva le sue prescrizioni: le sue leggi, le sue norme e i suoi comandi.
2 And consider this day (for I speake not to your children, which haue neither knowen nor seene) the chastisement of the Lord your God, his greatnesse, his mighty hande, and his stretched out arme,
Voi riconoscete oggi - poiché non parlo ai vostri figli che non hanno conosciuto né hanno visto le lezioni del Signore vostro Dio - voi riconoscete la sua grandezza, la sua mano potente, il suo braccio teso,
3 And his signes, and his actes, which hee did in the middes of Egypt vnto Pharaoh the King of Egypt and vnto all his land:
i suoi portenti, le opere che ha fatte in mezzo all'Egitto, contro il faraone, re d'Egitto, e contro il suo paese;
4 And what he did vnto the hoste of the Egyptians, vnto their horses, and to their charets, when he caused the waters of the red Sea to ouerflowe them, as they pursued after you, and the Lord destroied them vnto this day:
e ciò che ha fatto all'esercito d'Egitto, ai suoi cavalli e ai suoi carri, come ha fatto rifluire su di loro le acque del Mare Rosso, quando essi vi inseguivano e come li ha distrutti per sempre;
5 And what he did vnto you in the wildernesse, vntill yee came vnto this place:
ciò che ha fatto per voi nel deserto, fino al vostro arrivo in questo luogo;
6 And what he did vnto Dathan and Abiram the sonnes of Eliab ye sonne of Reuben, when the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them with their housholds and their tents, and all their substance that they had in the middes of al Israel.
ciò che ha fatto a Datan e ad Abiram, figli di Eliab, figlio di Ruben; come la terra ha spalancato la bocca e li ha inghiottiti con le loro famiglie, le loro tende e quanto a loro apparteneva, in mezzo a tutto Israele.
7 For your eyes haue seene all the great actes of the Lord which he did.
Perché i vostri occhi hanno visto le grandi cose che il Signore ha operate.
8 Therefore shall ye keepe all the commandements, which I commaund you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possesse the land whither ye goe to possesse it:
Osserverete dunque tutti i comandi che oggi vi dò, perché siate forti e possiate conquistare il paese che state per entrare a prendere in possesso
9 Also that ye may prolong your daies in the land, which the Lord sware vnto your fathers, to giue vnto them and to their seede, euen a lande that floweth with milke and honie.
e perché restiate a lungo sul suolo che il Signore ha giurato di dare ai vostri padri e alla loro discendenza: terra dove scorre latte e miele.
10 For the land whither thou goest to possesse it, is not as the lande of Egypt, from whence ye came, where thou sowedst thy seede, and wateredst it with thy feete as a garden of herbes:
Perché il paese di cui stai per entrare in possesso non è come il paese d'Egitto da cui siete usciti e dove gettavi il tuo seme e poi lo irrigavi con il piede, come fosse un orto di erbaggi;
11 But the land whither ye goe to possesse it, is a land of mountaines and valleis, and drinketh water of the raine of heauen.
ma il paese che andate a prendere in possesso è un paese di monti e di valli, beve l'acqua della pioggia che viene dal cielo:
12 This land doth the Lord thy God care for: the eies of the Lord thy God are alwaies vpon it, from the beginning of the yeere, euen vnto the ende of the yeere.
paese del quale il Signore tuo Dio ha cura e sul quale si posano sempre gli occhi del Signore tuo Dio dal principio dell'anno sino alla fine.
13 If yee shall hearken therefore vnto my commandements, which I commaund you this day, that yee loue the Lord your God and serue him with all your heart, and with all your soule,
Ora, se obbedirete diligentemente ai comandi che oggi vi dò, amando il Signore vostro Dio e servendolo con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima,
14 I also wil giue raine vnto your land in due time, the first raine and the latter, that thou maist gather in thy wheat, and thy wine, and thine oyle.
io darò al vostro paese la pioggia al suo tempo: la pioggia d'autunno e la pioggia di primavera, perché tu possa raccogliere il tuo frumento, il tuo vino e il tuo olio;
15 Also I will send grasse in thy fieldes, for thy cattel, that thou maist eate, and haue inough.
farò anche crescere nella tua campagna l'erba per il tuo bestiame; tu mangerai e sarai saziato.
16 But beware lest your heart deceiue you, and lest yee turne aside, and serue other gods, and worship them,
State in guardia perché il vostro cuore non si lasci sedurre e voi vi allontaniate, servendo dei stranieri o prostrandovi davanti a loro.
17 And so the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and he shut vp the heauen, that there be no raine, and that your lande yeelde not her fruit, and yee perish quickly from the good land, which the Lord giueth you.
Allora si accenderebbe contro di voi l'ira del Signore ed egli chiuderebbe i cieli e non vi sarebbe più pioggia e la terra non darebbe più i prodotti e voi perireste ben presto, scomparendo dalla fertile terra che il Signore sta per darvi.
18 Therefore shall ye lay vp these my words in your heart and in your soule, and binde them for a signe vpon your hand, that they may be as a frontlet betweene your eyes,
Porrete dunque nel cuore e nell'anima queste mie parole; ve le legherete alla mano come un segno e le terrete come un pendaglio tra gli occhi;
19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them, whe thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest downe, and when thou risest vp.
le insegnerete ai vostri figli, parlandone quando sarai seduto in casa tua e quando camminerai per via, quando ti coricherai e quando ti alzerai;
20 And thou shalt write them vpon the postes of thine house, and vpon thy gates,
le scriverai sugli stipiti della tua casa e sulle tue porte,
21 That your daies may be multiplied, and the daies of your children, in ye land which the Lord sware vnto your fathers to giue them, as long as the heauens are aboue the earth.
perché i vostri giorni e i giorni dei vostri figli, nel paese che il Signore ha giurato ai vostri padri di dare loro, siano numerosi come i giorni dei cieli sopra la terra.
22 For if ye keepe diligently all these commandements, which I command you to doe: that is, to loue the Lord your God, to walke in all his waies, and to cleaue vnto him,
Poiché se osserverete diligentemente tutti questi comandi che vi dò e li metterete in pratica, amando il Signore vostro Dio, camminando in tutte le sue vie e tenendovi uniti a lui,
23 Then will the Lord cast out all these nations before you, and ye shall possesse great nations and mightier then you.
il Signore scaccerà dinanzi a voi tutte quelle nazioni e voi v'impadronirete di nazioni più grandi e più potenti di voi.
24 All the places whereon the soles of your feete shall tread, shalbe yours: your coast shalbe from the wildernes and from Lebanon, and from the Riuer, euen the riuer Perath, vnto ye vttermost Sea.
Ogni luogo che la pianta del vostro piede calcherà sarà vostro; i vostri confini si estenderanno dal deserto al Libano, dal fiume, il fiume Eufrate, al Mar Mediterraneo.
25 No man shall stande against you: for the Lord your God shall cast the feare and dread of you vpon all the land that ye shall treade vpon, as he hath said vnto you.
Nessuno potrà resistere a voi; il Signore vostro Dio, come vi ha detto, diffonderà la paura e il terrore di voi su tutta la terra che voi calpesterete.
26 Beholde, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:
Vedete, io pongo oggi davanti a voi una benedizione e una maledizione:
27 The blessing, if ye obey the commandements of the Lord your God which I command you this day:
la benedizione, se obbedite ai comandi del Signore vostro Dio, che oggi vi dò;
28 And ye curse, if ye wil not obey the commandements of the Lord your God, but turne out of the way, which I commande you this day, to go after other gods, which ye haue not knowen.
la maledizione, se non obbedite ai comandi del Signore vostro Dio e se vi allontanate dalla via che oggi vi prescrivo, per seguire dei stranieri, che voi non avete conosciuti.
29 When the Lord thy God therefore hath brought thee into ye lande, whither thou goest to possesse it, then thou shalt put the blessing vpon mount Gerizim, and the curse vpon mount Ebal.
Quando il Signore tuo Dio ti avrà introdotto nel paese che vai a prendere in possesso, tu porrai la benedizione sul monte Garizim e la maledizione sul monte Ebal.
30 Are they not beyond Iorden on that part, where the sunne goeth downe in the land of the Canaanites, which dwel in the plaine ouer against Gilgal, beside the groue of Moreh?
Questi monti si trovano appunto oltre il Giordano, dietro la via verso occidente, nel paese dei Cananei che abitano l'Araba di fronte a Gàlgala presso le Querce di More.
31 For yee shall passe ouer Iorden, to goe in to possesse the land, which ye Lord your God giueth you, and ye shall possesse it, and dwell therein.
Voi infatti state per passare il Giordano per prendere in possesso il paese, che il Signore vostro Dio vi dà; voi lo possiederete e lo abiterete.
32 Take heede therefore that ye doe all the commandements and the lawes, which I set before you this day.
Avrete cura di mettere in pratica tutte le leggi e le norme che oggi io pongo dinanzi a voi.
