Deuteronomy 11
1 Therefore thou shalt loue the Lord thy God, and shalt keepe that, which he commandeth to be kept: that is, his ordinances, and his lawes, and his commandements alway.
Aime donc l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et observe ce qu'il veut qu'on observe, et ses statuts et ses lois et ses commandements, dans tous les temps.
2 And consider this day (for I speake not to your children, which haue neither knowen nor seene) the chastisement of the Lord your God, his greatnesse, his mighty hande, and his stretched out arme,
Reconnaissez maintenant (car ce n'est pas à vos fils que je parle, ils sont dans l'ignorance et n'ont pas été témoins des leçons de l'Éternel, votre Dieu), sa grandeur, et sa main forte, et son bras étendu,
3 And his signes, and his actes, which hee did in the middes of Egypt vnto Pharaoh the King of Egypt and vnto all his land:
et ses signes et ses actes qu'il accomplit au sein de l'Egypte, sur Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et sur tout son pays,
4 And what he did vnto the hoste of the Egyptians, vnto their horses, and to their charets, when he caused the waters of the red Sea to ouerflowe them, as they pursued after you, and the Lord destroied them vnto this day:
et ce qu'il a fait à l'armée d'Egypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars qu'il submergea par les eaux de la Mer aux algues, lorsqu'ils vous poursuivaient, et qu'il a anéantis jusqu'à ce jour;
5 And what he did vnto you in the wildernesse, vntill yee came vnto this place:
et ce qu'il vous a fait dans le désert jusqu'à votre arrivée en ce lieu,
6 And what he did vnto Dathan and Abiram the sonnes of Eliab ye sonne of Reuben, when the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them with their housholds and their tents, and all their substance that they had in the middes of al Israel.
et ce qu'il a fait à Dathan et à Abiram, fils d'Eliab, fils de Ruben, lorsque la terre s'entr'ouvrit et les engloutit avec leurs maisons et leurs tentes et tout leur train qui les suivait, au milieu de tout Israël.
7 For your eyes haue seene all the great actes of the Lord which he did.
Car vos yeux ont vu tous les grands faits accomplis par l'Éternel.
8 Therefore shall ye keepe all the commandements, which I commaund you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possesse the land whither ye goe to possesse it:
Et gardez tous les commandements que je vous prescris en ce jour, pour vous affermir afin que vous parveniez à conquérir le pays où vous allez entrer pour en faire la conquête,
9 Also that ye may prolong your daies in the land, which the Lord sware vnto your fathers, to giue vnto them and to their seede, euen a lande that floweth with milke and honie.
et afin que vous ayez de longs jours sur le sol que l'Éternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, à eux et à leur race, pays découlant de lait et de miel.
10 For the land whither thou goest to possesse it, is not as the lande of Egypt, from whence ye came, where thou sowedst thy seede, and wateredst it with thy feete as a garden of herbes:
Car le pays où tu arrives pour en faire la conquête, n'est point comme le pays d'Egypte d'où vous êtes sortis, et où tu semais tes semences, et où tu devais arroser à l'aide de ton pied, comme un jardin de légumes.
11 But the land whither ye goe to possesse it, is a land of mountaines and valleis, and drinketh water of the raine of heauen.
Le pays où vous allez entrer pour le conquérir, est un pays de montagnes et de vallées; il boit l'eau de la pluie du ciel,
12 This land doth the Lord thy God care for: the eies of the Lord thy God are alwaies vpon it, from the beginning of the yeere, euen vnto the ende of the yeere.
c'est un pays que hante l'Éternel, ton Dieu; toujours les yeux de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, sont fixés sur lui du commencement de l'année jusqu'à sa fin.
13 If yee shall hearken therefore vnto my commandements, which I commaund you this day, that yee loue the Lord your God and serue him with all your heart, and with all your soule,
Et si vous obéissez à mes commandements que je vous prescris en ce jour, en aimant l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et en le servant de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,
14 I also wil giue raine vnto your land in due time, the first raine and the latter, that thou maist gather in thy wheat, and thy wine, and thine oyle.
j'enverrai en leur saison les pluies propres à votre pays, celle de l'automne et celle du printemps, afin que tu récoltes ton blé, ton moût et ton huile,
15 Also I will send grasse in thy fieldes, for thy cattel, that thou maist eate, and haue inough.
et je fournirai à ton bétail de l'herbe dans tes champs, afin que tu manges à rassasiement.
16 But beware lest your heart deceiue you, and lest yee turne aside, and serue other gods, and worship them,
Veillez sur vous-mêmes de peur que votre cœur ne soit séduit et que vous ne fassiez défection et que vous ne serviez d'autres dieux et ne les adoriez;
17 And so the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and he shut vp the heauen, that there be no raine, and that your lande yeelde not her fruit, and yee perish quickly from the good land, which the Lord giueth you.
car alors la colère de l'Éternel s'allumera contre vous, et Il fermera les Cieux et il n'y aura point de pluie, et le sol ne rendra pas son produit, et bientôt vous serez exterminés du beau pays que vous donne l'Éternel.
18 Therefore shall ye lay vp these my words in your heart and in your soule, and binde them for a signe vpon your hand, that they may be as a frontlet betweene your eyes,
Mais déposez dans vos cœurs et dans vos âmes ces paroles que je vous dis, et liez-les sur vos mains comme des signes et portez-les comme bandelettes entre vos yeux;
19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them, whe thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest downe, and when thou risest vp.
et enseignez-les à vos fils, leur en parlant et assis dans ta maison et cheminant en voyage et à ton coucher et à ton lever,
20 And thou shalt write them vpon the postes of thine house, and vpon thy gates,
et inscris-les sur les piliers de ta maison et à tes portes,
21 That your daies may be multiplied, and the daies of your children, in ye land which the Lord sware vnto your fathers to giue them, as long as the heauens are aboue the earth.
afin que vos jours et les jours de vos fils se multiplient sur la terre, que l'Éternel a juré à tes pères de leur donner, aussi longtemps que le soleil luira sur la terre.
22 For if ye keepe diligently all these commandements, which I command you to doe: that is, to loue the Lord your God, to walke in all his waies, and to cleaue vnto him,
Car, si vous gardez tous ces commandements que je vous prescris, pour les pratiquer en aimant l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et en marchant dans toutes ses voies et en restant attachés à lui,
23 Then will the Lord cast out all these nations before you, and ye shall possesse great nations and mightier then you.
l'Éternel chassera devant vous tous ces peuples, et vous vous soumettrez des peuples plus grands et plus forts que vous;
24 All the places whereon the soles of your feete shall tread, shalbe yours: your coast shalbe from the wildernes and from Lebanon, and from the Riuer, euen the riuer Perath, vnto ye vttermost Sea.
tout lieu où vous marquerez la plante de vos pieds sera à vous; votre frontière ira du Désert au Liban, du Fleuve de l'Euphrate à la Mer occidentale;
25 No man shall stande against you: for the Lord your God shall cast the feare and dread of you vpon all the land that ye shall treade vpon, as he hath said vnto you.
nul ne vous tiendra tête; l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous fera précéder de la terreur et de l'effroi que vous inspirerez, par tout le pays où vous allez marcher, comme Il vous l'a promis.
26 Beholde, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:
Voici, je mets devant vous en ce jour bénédiction et malédiction;
27 The blessing, if ye obey the commandements of the Lord your God which I command you this day:
la bénédiction pour le cas où vous obéirez aux commandements de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, que je vous prescris en ce jour;
28 And ye curse, if ye wil not obey the commandements of the Lord your God, but turne out of the way, which I commande you this day, to go after other gods, which ye haue not knowen.
et la malédiction pour le cas où vous n'obéirez pas aux commandements de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et où vous quitterez la voie que je vous prescris en ce jour, pour servir d'autres dieux que vous ne connaissez pas.
29 When the Lord thy God therefore hath brought thee into ye lande, whither thou goest to possesse it, then thou shalt put the blessing vpon mount Gerizim, and the curse vpon mount Ebal.
Et lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'aura introduit dans le pays dont tu viens faire la conquête, tu prononceras la bénédiction du haut du mont Garizim et la malédiction du haut du mont Ebal.
30 Are they not beyond Iorden on that part, where the sunne goeth downe in the land of the Canaanites, which dwel in the plaine ouer against Gilgal, beside the groue of Moreh?
Voici, ils se trouvent en deçà du Jourdain, derrière la route, vers le couchant, dans le pays des Cananéens habitants de la plaine, vis-à-vis de Gilgal, près des Térébinthes de Moreh.
31 For yee shall passe ouer Iorden, to goe in to possesse the land, which ye Lord your God giueth you, and ye shall possesse it, and dwell therein.
Car vous allez passer le Jourdain pour marcher à la conquête du pays que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous donne, et vous en ferez la conquête et vous y établirez.
32 Take heede therefore that ye doe all the commandements and the lawes, which I set before you this day.
Veillez donc à pratiquer tous les statuts et les lois que je vous mets en ce jour devant les yeux.
