Daniel 1
1 In the thirde yeere of the reigne of Iehoiakim king of Iudah, came Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel vnto Ierusalem and besieged it.
Năm thứ ba về đời Giê-hô gia-kim, vua Giu-đa, thì Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, đến thành Giê-ru-sa-lem và vây lấy.
2 And ye Lord gaue Iehoiakim king of Iudah into his hand; with parte of the vessels of the house of God, which he caryed into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into his gods treasurie.
Chúa phó Giê-hô-gia-kim vua Giu-đa, và một phần khí mạnh của nhà Đức Chúa Trời vào tay người. Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa đem khí mạnh ấy về đất Si-nê-a, vào nhà của thần mình, và để trong kho của thần mình.
3 And the King spake vnto Ashpenaz the master of his Eunuches, that he shoulde bring certeine of the children of Israel, of the Kings seede, and of the princes:
Vua truyền cho Aùt-bê-na, là người làm đầu các hoạn quan mình, lấy trong con cái Y-sơ-ra-ên, trong dòng vua, và trong hàng quan sang, mà đem đến
4 Children in whome was no blemish, but well fauoured, and instruct in all wisedome, and well seene in knowledge, and able to vtter knowledge, and such as were able to stande in the kings palace, and whome they might teach the learning, and the tongue of the Caldeans.
mấy kẻ trai trẻ không có tật nguyền, mặt mày xinh tốt, tập mọi sự khôn ngoan, biết cách trí, đủ sự thông hiểu khoa học, có thể đứng chầu trong cung vua, và dạy cho học thức và tiếng của người Canh-đê.
5 And the King appointed them prouision euery day of a portion of the Kings meate, and and of the wine, which he dranke, so nourishing them three yeere, that at the ende thereof, they might stande before the King.
Vua định mỗi ngày ban cho họ một phần đồ ngon vua ăn và rượu vua uống, hầu cho khi đã nuôi họ như vậy ba năm rồi, thì họ sẽ đứng chầu trước mặt vua.
6 Nowe among these were certeine of the children of Iudah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.
Trong bọn đó có Đa-ni-ên, Ha-na-nia, Mi-sa-ên và A-xa-ria là thuộc về con cái Giu-đa.
7 Vnto whome the chiefe of the Eunuches gaue other names: for hee called Daniel, Belteshazzar, and Hananiah, Shadrach, and Mishael, Meshach, and Azariah, Abednego.
Người làm đầu hoạn quan đặt tên cho họ: cho Đa-ni-ên tên Bên-tơ-xát-sa; cho Ha-na-nia tên Sa-đơ-rắc; cho Mi-sa-ên tên Mê-sác; và cho A-xa-ria tên A-bết-Nê-gô.
8 But Daniel had determined in his heart, that hee woulde not defile him selfe with the portion of the Kings meate, nor with the wine which he dranke: therefore he required the chiefe of the Eunuches that he might not defile himselfe.
Vả, Đa-ni-ên quyết định trong lòng rằng không chịu ô uế bởi đồ ngon vua ăn và rượu vua uống, nên cầu xin người làm đầu hoạn quan để đừng bắt mình phải tự làm ô uế.
9 (Nowe God had brought Daniel into fauour, and tender loue with the chiefe of the Eunuches)
Đức Chúa Trời khiến Đa-ni-ên được ơn và thương xót trước mặt người làm đầu hoạn quan.
10 And the chiefe of the Eunuches sayd vnto Daniel, I feare my lord the King, who hath appointed your meate and your drinke: therefore if he see your faces worse liking then the other children, which are of your sort, then shall you make me lose mine head vnto the King.
Người làm đầu hoạn quan bảo Đa-ni-ên rằng: Ta sợ vua, là chủ ta, đã chỉ định đồ ăn đồ uống của các ngươi. Lẽ nào vua sẽ thấy mặt mày các ngươi tiều tụy hơn những kẻ trai trẻ khác đồng tuổi với các ngươi, và các ngươi nộp đầu ta cho vua sao?
11 Then sayd Daniel to Melzar, whome the chiefe of the Eunuches had set ouer Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
Đa-ni-ên bèn nói với Ham-mên-xa mà người làm đầu hoạn quan đã khiến coi sóc Đa-ni-ên, Ha-na-nia, Mi-sa-ên và A-xa-ria, rằng:
12 Proue thy seruants, I beseeche thee, ten dayes, and let them giue vs pulse to eate, and water to drinke.
Tôi xin ông hãy thử những kẻ tôi tớ ông trong mười ngày, cho chúng tôi chỉ ăn rau uống nước.
13 Then let our countenances bee looked vpon before thee, and the countenances of the children that eate of the portion of the Kings meate: and as thou seest, deale with thy seruantes.
Sau đó, sẽ nhìn nét mặt chúng tôi với nét mặt những kẻ trai trẻ ăn đồ ăn ngon của vua; rồi ông sẽ làm cho những kẻ tôi tớ ông theo như điều ông đã thấy.
14 So hee consented to them in this matter, an proued them ten dayes.
Ham-mên-xa nhậm lời họ xin, và thử họ trong mười ngày.
15 And at the end of ten dayes, their countenances appeared fayrer, and in better liking then all the childrens, which did eate the portion of the Kings meate.
Mười ngày ấy qua rồi, thấy mặt họ lại có vẻ xinh tươi đầy đặn hơn mọi kẻ trai trẻ khác đã ăn đồ ngon vua ăn.
16 Thus Melzar tooke away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drinke, and gaue them pulse.
Vậy, Ham-nên-xa cất phần đồ ăn ngon và rượu của họ, và cho họ ăn rau.
17 As for these foure children, God gaue them knowledge, and vnderstanding in al learning and wisedome: also he gaue Daniel vnderstanding of all visions and dreames.
Vả, Đức Chúa Trời ban cho bốn người trai trẻ đó được thông biết tỏ sáng trong mọi thứ học thức và sự khôn ngoan. Đa-ni-ên cũng biết được mọi sự hiện thấy và chiêm bao.
18 Nowe when the time was expired, that the King had appoynted to bring them in, the chiefe of the Eunuches brought them before Nebuchad-nezzar.
Đến kỳ vua định để đem họ đến, thì người làm đầu hoạn quan dắt họ đến trước mặt Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa.
19 And the King communed with them: and among them al was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stoode they before the king.
Vua nói chuyện cùng họ; và trong hết thảy bọn họ, không thấy ai bằng Đa-ni-ên, Ha-na-nia, Mi-sa-ên, và A-sa-ria; vậy họ được đứng chầu trước mặt vua.
20 And in all matters of wisedome, and vnderstanding that the King enquired of them, hee founde them tenne times better then all the inchanters and astrologians, that were in all his realme.
Vả, khi vua hỏi họ những câu hỏi về mọi sự khôn ngoan sáng suốt, thì thấy họ giỏi hơn gấp mười những đồng bóng và thuật sĩ trong cả nước mình.
21 And Daniel was vnto the first yeere of king Cyrus.
Vậy, Đa-ni-ên cứ ở đó cho đến năm đầu đời vua Si-ru.
