Daniel 1
1 In the thirde yeere of the reigne of Iehoiakim king of Iudah, came Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel vnto Ierusalem and besieged it.
El año tercero del reinado de Joakim, rey de Judá, vino Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia a Jerusalén y la asedió.
2 And ye Lord gaue Iehoiakim king of Iudah into his hand; with parte of the vessels of the house of God, which he caryed into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into his gods treasurie.
Y el Señor entregó en sus manos a Joakim, rey de Judá, y parte de los vasos de la Casa de Dios. Los llevó (Nabucodonosor) al país de Sinear, a la casa de su dios; y puso los vasos en la casa del tesoro de su dios.
3 And the King spake vnto Ashpenaz the master of his Eunuches, that he shoulde bring certeine of the children of Israel, of the Kings seede, and of the princes:
Y dijo el rey a Aspenaz, prefecto de los eunucos, que trajese de los hijos de Israel, del linaje real y de los príncipes,
4 Children in whome was no blemish, but well fauoured, and instruct in all wisedome, and well seene in knowledge, and able to vtter knowledge, and such as were able to stande in the kings palace, and whome they might teach the learning, and the tongue of the Caldeans.
algunos niños que no tuviesen ningún defecto, de hermosa figura, instruidos en toda sabiduría, dotados de saber, prudentes, inteligentes y aptos para estar en el palacio del rey y aprender la escritura y la lengua de los caldeos.
5 And the King appointed them prouision euery day of a portion of the Kings meate, and and of the wine, which he dranke, so nourishing them three yeere, that at the ende thereof, they might stande before the King.
El rey les asignó una ración diaria de los escogidos manjares de la mesa real, y del vino que él mismo bebía, y mandó que los alimentasen así por tres años para que al final de ellos sirviesen al rey.
6 Nowe among these were certeine of the children of Iudah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.
Entre ellos se hallaron, de los hijos de Judá: Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías;
7 Vnto whome the chiefe of the Eunuches gaue other names: for hee called Daniel, Belteshazzar, and Hananiah, Shadrach, and Mishael, Meshach, and Azariah, Abednego.
a los cuales el prefecto de los eunucos les puso (nuevos) nombres; a Daniel le llamó Baltasar; a Ananías, Sidrac; a Misael, Misac; y a Azarías, Abdénago.
8 But Daniel had determined in his heart, that hee woulde not defile him selfe with the portion of the Kings meate, nor with the wine which he dranke: therefore he required the chiefe of the Eunuches that he might not defile himselfe.
Daniel se propuso en su corazón no contaminarse con los manjares escogidos del rey, ni con el vino que él bebía; por lo cual pidió al prefecto de los eunucos que no le (obligara) a contaminarse.
9 (Nowe God had brought Daniel into fauour, and tender loue with the chiefe of the Eunuches)
Y Dios hizo que Daniel hallase gracia y benevolencia ante el prefecto de los eunucos.
10 And the chiefe of the Eunuches sayd vnto Daniel, I feare my lord the King, who hath appointed your meate and your drinke: therefore if he see your faces worse liking then the other children, which are of your sort, then shall you make me lose mine head vnto the King.
Dijo el prefecto de los eunucos a Daniel: “Temo al rey mi señor, el cual ha dispuesto lo que debéis comer y beber. ¿Por qué ha de ver vuestras caras más flacas que las de los jóvenes de vuestra edad? Así me haríais culpable ante el rey.”
11 Then sayd Daniel to Melzar, whome the chiefe of the Eunuches had set ouer Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
Respondió entonces Daniel a Malasar, al cual el prefecto de los eunucos había encargado el cuidado de Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías:
12 Proue thy seruants, I beseeche thee, ten dayes, and let them giue vs pulse to eate, and water to drinke.
Te suplico que hagas con tus siervos una prueba de diez días; dénsenos legumbres para comer y agua para beber;
13 Then let our countenances bee looked vpon before thee, and the countenances of the children that eate of the portion of the Kings meate: and as thou seest, deale with thy seruantes.
después examinarás nuestros semblantes y los semblantes de los jóvenes que comen de los manjares escogidos del rey; y según vieres, haz con tus siervos.”
14 So hee consented to them in this matter, an proued them ten dayes.
Aceptó él su propuesta y los probó durante diez días.
15 And at the end of ten dayes, their countenances appeared fayrer, and in better liking then all the childrens, which did eate the portion of the Kings meate.
Y al cabo de los diez días sus semblantes parecían mejores y más llenos que los de todos los jóvenes que comían de los escogidos manjares del rey.
16 Thus Melzar tooke away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drinke, and gaue them pulse.
Desde entonces Malasar se llevaba sus manjares escogidos y el vino que habían de beber, y les daba legumbres.
17 As for these foure children, God gaue them knowledge, and vnderstanding in al learning and wisedome: also he gaue Daniel vnderstanding of all visions and dreames.
Dios concedió a estos cuatro jóvenes conocimiento y entendimiento en todas las letras, y también sabiduría. Daniel entendía, además, toda suerte de visiones y sueños.
18 Nowe when the time was expired, that the King had appoynted to bring them in, the chiefe of the Eunuches brought them before Nebuchad-nezzar.
Cumplido el tiempo que el rey había señalado para que le fuesen presentados, les condujo el prefecto de los eunucos a la presencia de Nabucodonosor.
19 And the King communed with them: and among them al was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stoode they before the king.
El rey habló con ellos, y no se halló entre todos ellos ninguno como Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías; por lo que fueron admitidos al servicio del rey.
20 And in all matters of wisedome, and vnderstanding that the King enquired of them, hee founde them tenne times better then all the inchanters and astrologians, that were in all his realme.
En todos los asuntos de sabiduría e inteligencia en que el rey les consultó, los halló diez veces superiores a todos los magos y adivinos de todo su reino.
21 And Daniel was vnto the first yeere of king Cyrus.
Permaneció Daniel hasta el año primero del rey Ciro.
