Daniel 1
1 In the thirde yeere of the reigne of Iehoiakim king of Iudah, came Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel vnto Ierusalem and besieged it.
La troisième année de Jéhojakim Roi de Juda, Nébucadnetsar Roi de Babylone vint [contre] Jérusalem, et l'assiégea.
2 And ye Lord gaue Iehoiakim king of Iudah into his hand; with parte of the vessels of the house of God, which he caryed into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into his gods treasurie.
Et le Seigneur livra en sa main Jéhojakim Roi de Juda, et une partie des vaisseaux de la maison de Dieu, lesquels [Nébucadnetsar] fit emporter au pays de Sinhar en la maison de son Dieu; et il mit ces vaisseaux en la Trésorerie de son Dieu.
3 And the King spake vnto Ashpenaz the master of his Eunuches, that he shoulde bring certeine of the children of Israel, of the Kings seede, and of the princes:
Et le Roi dit à Aspenaz, Capitaine de ses Eunuques, qu'il amenât d'entre les enfants d'Israël, et de la race Royale et des principaux Seigneurs,
4 Children in whome was no blemish, but well fauoured, and instruct in all wisedome, and well seene in knowledge, and able to vtter knowledge, and such as were able to stande in the kings palace, and whome they might teach the learning, and the tongue of the Caldeans.
Quelques jeunes enfants, en qui il n'y eût aucun défaut, beaux de visage, instruits en toute sagesse, connaissant les sciences, qui eussent beaucoup d'intelligence, et en qui il y eût de la force, pour se tenir au palais du Roi; et qu'on leur enseignât les lettres et la langue des Caldéens.
5 And the King appointed them prouision euery day of a portion of the Kings meate, and and of the wine, which he dranke, so nourishing them three yeere, that at the ende thereof, they might stande before the King.
Et le Roi leur assigna pour provision chaque jour une portion de la viande Royale, et du vin dont il buvait; afin qu'on les nourrît ainsi trois ans, et qu'ensuite [quelques-uns d'entre eux] servissent en la présence du Roi.
6 Nowe among these were certeine of the children of Iudah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.
Entre ceux-là il y eut des enfants de Juda, Daniel, Hanania, Misaël et Hazaria.
7 Vnto whome the chiefe of the Eunuches gaue other names: for hee called Daniel, Belteshazzar, and Hananiah, Shadrach, and Mishael, Meshach, and Azariah, Abednego.
Mais le Capitaine des Eunuques leur mit d'autres noms; car il donna à Daniel le nom de Beltesatsar; à Hanania, celui de Sadrac; à Misaël, celui de Mésac; et à Hazaria, celui d'Habed-nego.
8 But Daniel had determined in his heart, that hee woulde not defile him selfe with the portion of the Kings meate, nor with the wine which he dranke: therefore he required the chiefe of the Eunuches that he might not defile himselfe.
Or Daniel se proposa dans son cœur de ne se point souiller par la portion de la viande du Roi, ni par le vin dont le Roi buvait; c'est pourquoi il supplia le Chef des Eunuques afin qu'il ne l'engageât point à se souiller.
9 (Nowe God had brought Daniel into fauour, and tender loue with the chiefe of the Eunuches)
Et Dieu fit que le Chef des Eunuques eut de la bonté pour Daniel, et qu'il eut pitié de lui.
10 And the chiefe of the Eunuches sayd vnto Daniel, I feare my lord the King, who hath appointed your meate and your drinke: therefore if he see your faces worse liking then the other children, which are of your sort, then shall you make me lose mine head vnto the King.
Toutefois le Capitaine des Eunuques dit à Daniel: Je crains le Roi mon maître, qui a ordonné votre manger et votre boire; pourquoi verrait-il vos visages plus défaits que ceux des autres jeunes enfants vos semblables, et rendriez-vous ma tête coupable envers le Roi?
11 Then sayd Daniel to Melzar, whome the chiefe of the Eunuches had set ouer Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
Mais Daniel dit à Meltsar, qui avait été ordonné par le Capitaine des Eunuques sur Daniel, Hanania, Misaël, et Hazaria;
12 Proue thy seruants, I beseeche thee, ten dayes, and let them giue vs pulse to eate, and water to drinke.
Eprouve, je te prie, tes serviteurs pendant dix jours, et qu'on nous donne des légumes à manger, et de l'eau à boire.
13 Then let our countenances bee looked vpon before thee, and the countenances of the children that eate of the portion of the Kings meate: and as thou seest, deale with thy seruantes.
Et après cela regarde nos visages, et les visages des jeunes enfants qui mangent la portion de la viande Royale; puis tu feras à tes serviteurs selon ce que tu auras vu.
14 So hee consented to them in this matter, an proued them ten dayes.
Et il leur accorda cela, et les éprouva pendant dix jours.
15 And at the end of ten dayes, their countenances appeared fayrer, and in better liking then all the childrens, which did eate the portion of the Kings meate.
Mais au bout des dix jours leurs visages parurent en meilleur état, et ils avaient plus d'embonpoint que tous les jeunes enfants qui mangeaient la portion de la viande Royale.
16 Thus Melzar tooke away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drinke, and gaue them pulse.
Ainsi Meltsar prenait la portion de leur viande, et le vin qu'ils devaient boire, et leur donnait des légumes.
17 As for these foure children, God gaue them knowledge, and vnderstanding in al learning and wisedome: also he gaue Daniel vnderstanding of all visions and dreames.
Et Dieu donna à ces quatre jeunes enfants de la science et de l'intelligence dans toutes les lettres, et de la sagesse; et Daniel s'entendait en toute vision, et dans les songes.
18 Nowe when the time was expired, that the King had appoynted to bring them in, the chiefe of the Eunuches brought them before Nebuchad-nezzar.
Et au bout des jours que le Roi avait dit qu'on les amenât, le Capitaine des Eunuques les amena devant Nébucadnetsar.
19 And the King communed with them: and among them al was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stoode they before the king.
Et le Roi s'entretint avec eux; mais entre eux tous il ne s'en trouva point de tels que Daniel, Hanania, Misaël, et Hazaria; et ils se tinrent en la présence du Roi.
20 And in all matters of wisedome, and vnderstanding that the King enquired of them, hee founde them tenne times better then all the inchanters and astrologians, that were in all his realme.
Et dans toute question savante et qui demandait de la pénétration, sur quoi le Roi les interrogeait il trouva dix fois plus de science en eux que dans tous les tireurs d'horoscope et les astrologues qui étaient en tout son Royaume.
21 And Daniel was vnto the first yeere of king Cyrus.
Et Daniel [y] fut jusqu'à la première année du Roi Cyrus.
