Daniel 6
1 It pleased Darius to set ouer the kingdome an hundreth and twentie gouernours, which should be ouer the whole kingdome,
Il plut à Darius d’établir sur le royaume cent vingt satrapes; afin qu’il y en eût dans tout son royaume;
2 And ouer these, three rulers (of whome Daniel was one) that the gouernours might giue accompts vnto them, and the King should haue no domage.
Et au-dessus d’eux, trois princes, dont un était Daniel; afin que les satrapes leur rendissent compte, et que le roi n’eût aucune peine.
3 Now this Daniel was preferred aboue the rulers and gouernours, because the spirit was excellent in him, and the King thought to set him ouer the whole realme.
Ainsi Daniel était au-dessus de tous les princes et satrapes, parce que l’esprit de Dieu était plus abondant en lui.
4 Wherefore the rulers and gouernours sought an occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdome: but they could finde none occasion nor fault: for he was so faithfull that there was no blame nor fault found in him.
Or le roi pensait à l’établir sur tout le royaume; d’où les princes et les satrapes cherchaient à trouver un moyen d’accusation contre Daniel du côté du roi; et ils ne purent découvrir aucune cause de suspicion, parce qu’il était fidèle, et qu’aucune faute et aucun soupçon ne se trouvaient en lui.
5 Then sayd these men, We shall not finde an occasion against this Daniel, except we finde it against him concerning the Law of his God.
Ces hommes dirent donc: Nous ne trouverons contre ce Daniel aucun moyen d’accusation, si ce n’est dans la loi de son Dieu.
6 Therefore the rulers and these gouernours went together to the King, and sayde thus vnto him, King Darius, liue for euer.
Alors les princes et les satrapes surprirent le roi, et lui parlèrent ainsi: Darius, roi, vivez à jamais.
7 All the rulers of thy kingdome, the officers and gouernours, the counsellers, and dukes haue consulted together to make a decree for the King and to establish a statute, that whosoeuer shall aske a petition of any god or man for thirtie dayes saue of thee, O King, he shalbe cast into the denne of lyons.
Tous les princes de votre royaume, les magistrats et les satrapes, les sénateurs et les juges, sont d’avis qu’un décret impérial paraisse, et un édit: Que quiconque fera quelque demande à quelque dieu ou à quelque homme que ce soit d’ici à trente jours, sinon à vous, ô roi, qu’il soit jeté dans la fosse aux lions.
8 Nowe, O King, confirme the decree, and seale the writing, that it be not changed according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
Maintenant donc, ô roi, confirmez cet avis, et écrivez le décret, afin que ce qui a été statué par les Mèdes et par les Perses ne soit pas changé, et qu’il ne soit permis à personne de le transgresser.
9 Wherefore King Darius sealed the writing and the decree.
Or le roi Darius proposa l’édit, et le publia.
10 Now when Daniel vnderstood that he had sealed the writing, hee went into his house, and his window being open in his chamber toward Ierusalem, he kneeled vpon his knees three times a day, and prayed and praysed his God, as he did aforetime.
Lorsque Daniel eut appris cela, c’est-à-dire la loi portée, il entra dans sa maison; et, les fenêtres ouvertes, il fléchissait les genoux dans sa chambre haute trois fois le jour, tourné vers Jérusalem, et il adorait, et rendait grâce devant son Dieu, comme il avait accoutumé de faire auparavant.
11 Then these men assembled, and founde Daniel praying, and making supplication vnto his God.
Ces hommes donc, épiant très soigneusement, trouvèrent Daniel priant et suppliant son Dieu.
12 So they came and, spake vnto the King concerning the Kings decree, Hast thou not sealed the decree, that euery man that shall make a request to any god or man within thirtie dayes, saue to thee, O King, shall be cast into the denne of lyons? The King answered, and sayd, The thing is true, according to the Lawe of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
Et, venant auprès du roi, ils lui dirent touchant l’édit: Ô roi, est-ce que vous n’avez pas décidé que tout homme qui jusqu’après trente jours prierait quelqu’un des dieux ou des hommes, sinon vous, ô roi, serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions? Le roi, leur répondant, dit: Cette parole est véritable, selon le décret des Mèdes et des Perses, qu’il n’est pas permis de transgresser.
13 Then answered they, and sayd vnto the King, This Daniel which is of the children of the captiuitie of Iudah, regardeth not thee, O King, nor the decree, that thou hast sealed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
Alors, répondant, ils dirent au roi: Daniel, un des enfants de la captivité de Juda, n’a tenu aucun compte de votre loi et de l’édit que vous avez porté; mais trois fois par jour il fait sa prière accoutumée.
14 When the King heard these wordes, hee was sore displeased with himselfe, and set his heart on Daniel, to deliuer him: and he laboured till the sunne went downe, to deliuer him.
Lorsque le roi eut entendu cette parole, il fut extrêmement contristé, et il appliqua son cœur à délivrer Daniel, et jusqu’au coucher du soleil il travaillait à le sauver.
15 Then these men assembled vnto the King, and sayde vnto ye King, Vnderstand, O King, that the lawe of the Medes and Persians is, that no decree nor statute which the King confirmeth, may be altered.
Mais ces hommes, comprenant le roi, lui dirent: Sachez, ô roi, que c’est une loi des Mèdes et des Perses, que tout décret que le roi a porté ne peut être changé.
16 Then the King commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the denne of lyons: now the King spake, and said vnto Daniel, Thy God, whome thou alway seruest, euen he will deliuer thee.
Alors le roi ordonna; et ils amenèrent Daniel, et le jetèrent dans la fosse aux lions. Et le roi dit à Daniel: Ton Dieu, que tu adores toujours, c’est lui qui te délivrera.
17 And a stone was brought, and layed vpon the mouth of the denne, and the King sealed it with his owne signet, and with the signet of his princes, that the purpose might not be changed, concerning Daniel.
Et l’on apporta une pierre, et elle fut placée sur l’ouverture de la fosse, que le roi scella de son anneau et de l’anneau de ses grands, afin qu’il ne fût rien fait contre Daniel.
18 Then the King went vnto his palace, and remained fasting, neither were the instruments of musike brought before him, and his sleepe went from him.
Et le roi s’en alla à sa maison, et il se coucha sans avoir soupe; et l’on n’apporta pas de nourriture devant lui; de plus, le sommeil même s’éloigna de lui.
19 Then the King arose early in the morning, and went in all haste vnto the denne of lyons.
Après cela, le roi, s’étant levé au point du jour, alla en se hâtant à la fosse aux lions;
20 And when he came to the denne, he cryed with a lamentable voyce vnto Daniel: and the King spake, and saide to Daniel, O Daniel, the seruant of ye liuing God, is not thy God (whom thou alway seruest) able to deliuer thee from the lyons?
Et, s’étant approché de la fosse, il appela Daniel d’une voix mêlée de larmes, et lui parla ainsi: Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu que tu sers toujours a-t-il pu te délivrer des lions?
21 Then saide Daniel vnto the King, O King, liue for euer.
Et Daniel, répondant au roi, dit: Ô roi, vivez à jamais;
22 My God hath sent his Angel and hath shut the lyons mouthes, that they haue not hurt mee: for my iustice was founde out before him: and vnto thee, O King, I haue done no hurt.
Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange, et a fermé les gueules des lions, et ils ne m’ont pas fait de mal, parce que devant lui la justice a été trouvée en moi; mais même devant vous, ô roi, je n’ai pas fait de faute.
23 Then was the King exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel out of the denne: so Daniel was brought out of the denne, and no maner of hurt was found vpon him, because he beleeued in his God.
Alors le roi se réjouit beaucoup à cause de lui, et il ordonna que Daniel fût tiré de la fosse; et Daniel fut tiré de la fosse, et on ne trouva aucune blessure en lui, parce qu’il avait cru en son Dieu.
24 And by the commandement of the King these me which had accused Daniel, were brought, and were cast into the denne of lions, euen they, their children, and their wiues: and the lyons had the mastry of them, and brake all their bones a pieces, or euer they came at the groud of the denne.
Or, le roi ayant commandé, les hommes qui avaient accusé Daniel furent amenés, et jetés dans la fosse aux lions, eux, leurs fils et leurs femmes; et ils n’étaient pas parvenus jusqu’au pavé de la fosse, que les bons les saisirent et brisèrent tous leurs os.
25 Afterwarde King Darius wrote, Vnto all people, nations and languages, that dwel in all the world: Peace be multiplied vnto you.
Alors Darius le roi écrivit à tous les peuples, aux tribus, et aux langues, habitant dans toute la terre: Que la paix se multiplie pour vous.
26 I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdome, men tremble and feare before the God of Daniel: for he is the liuing God, and remayneth for euer: and his kingdome shall not perish, and his dominion shalbe euerlasting.
Par moi est établi le décret, que dans tout mon empire et mon royaume, on tremble et on craigne le Dieu de Daniel, car c’est lui qui est le Dieu vivant et éternel dans les siècles; et son royaume ne sera pas détruit, et sa puissance subsistera éternellement.
27 Hee rescueth and deliuereth, and hee worketh signes and wonders in heauen and in earth, who hath deliuered Daniel from the power of the lyons.
C’est lui qui est le libérateur et le sauveur, faisant des prodiges et des merveilles dans le ciel et sur la terre; lui qui a délivré Daniel de la fosse aux lions.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reigne of Darius and in the reigne of Cyrus of Persia.
Or Daniel continua d’être en dignité jusqu’au règne de Darius, et au règne de Cyrus, roi de Perse.
