Daniel 4
1 Nebuchad-nezzar King vnto all people, nations and languages, that dwell in all the world, Peace be multiplied vnto you:
Nebuchadnezzar, le roi, à tous les peuples, nations et langues, qui habitent sur toute la terre: Que la paix vous soit multipliée.
2 I thought it good to declare the signes and wonders, that the hie God hath wrought toward me.
Il m'a semblé bon de montrer les signes et les prodiges que le Dieu Très-Haut a opérés à mon égard.
3 How great are his signes, and how mightie are his wonders! his kingdome is an euerlasting kingdome, and his dominion is from generation to generation.
Comme ses signes sont grands! Comme ses merveilles sont puissantes! Son royaume est un royaume éternel. Sa domination s'étend de génération en génération.
4 I Nebuchad-nezzar being at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace,
Moi, Nabuchodonosor, je me reposais dans ma maison, et je prospérais dans mon palais.
5 Saw a dreame, which made me afraide, and the thoughtes vpon my bed, and the visions of mine head troubled me.
J'ai vu un songe qui m'a effrayé; les pensées sur mon lit et les visions de ma tête m'ont troublé.
6 Therefore made I a decree, that they should bring all the wise men of Babel before mee, that they might declare vnto me the interpretation of the dreame.
J'ai donc pris l'ordre de faire venir devant moi tous les sages de Babylone, afin qu'ils me fassent connaître l'interprétation du songe.
7 So came the inchanters, the astrologians, the Caldeans and the sothsayers, to whom I tolde the dreame, but they could not shew me the interpretation thereof,
Alors entrèrent les magiciens, les enchanteurs, les Chaldéens et les devins; je leur racontai le rêve, mais ils ne me firent pas connaître son interprétation.
8 Till at the last Daniel came before mee, (whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, which hath the spirite of the holy gods in him) and before him I tolde the dreame, saying,
Mais enfin entra devant moi Daniel, qui s'appelait Belteshazzar, selon le nom de mon dieu, et qui avait en lui l'esprit des dieux saints. Je racontai le rêve devant lui, en disant,
9 O Belteshazzar, chiefe of the enchanters, because I know, that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell mee the visions of my dreame, that I haue seene and the interpretation thereof.
« Beltschatsar, maître des magiciens, parce que je sais que l'esprit des dieux saints est en toi et qu'aucun secret ne te trouble, dis-moi les visions de mon rêve que j'ai eu, et son interprétation.
10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed. And beholde, I sawe a tree in the middes of the earth and the height thereof was great:
Voici les visions de ma tête sur mon lit: J'ai vu, et voici, un arbre au milieu de la terre, et sa hauteur était grande.
11 A great tree and strong, and the height thereof reached vnto heauen, and the sight thereof to the endes of all the earth.
L'arbre croissait et était fort. Sa hauteur atteignait le ciel et sa vue jusqu'à l'extrémité de toute la terre.
12 The boughes thereof were faire and the fruite thereof much, and in it was meate for all: it made a shadow vnder it for the beastes of the fielde, and the foules of the heauen dwelt in the boughes thereof, and all flesh fedde of it.
Son feuillage était beau, il portait beaucoup de fruits, et il y avait en lui de la nourriture pour tous. Les animaux des champs avaient de l'ombre sous lui, les oiseaux du ciel habitaient dans ses branches, et toute chair s'en nourrissait.
13 I sawe in the visions of mine head vpon my bed, and beholde, a watchman and an holy one came downe from heauen,
« J'ai vu dans les visions de ma tête sur mon lit, et voici qu'un saint observateur descendit du ciel.
14 And cried aloude, and said thus, Hew downe the tree, and breake off his branches: shake off his leaues, and scatter his fruite, that the beastes may flee from vnder it, and the foules from his branches.
Il cria à haute voix et dit ceci: Abattez l'arbre et coupez ses branches! Secoue ses feuilles et disperse ses fruits! Que les animaux se retirent de dessous lui et les oiseaux de ses branches.
15 Neuerthelesse leaue the stumpe of his rootes in the earth, and with a band of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wet with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes among the grasse of the fielde.
Mais laisse le tronc de ses racines dans la terre, avec une bande de fer et de bronze, dans l'herbe tendre des champs, et qu'il soit mouillé de la rosée du ciel. Que sa part soit avec les animaux dans l'herbe de la terre.
16 Let his heart be changed from mans nature, and let a beasts heart be giuen vnto him, and let seuen times be passed ouer him.
Que son cœur soit changé de celui de l'homme, et qu'un cœur d'animal lui soit donné. Et que sept temps passent sur lui.
17 The sentence is according to the decree of the watchmen, and according to the word of the holy ones: the demaunde was answered, to the intent that liuing men may knowe, that the most High hath power ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whomsoeuer he will, and appointeth ouer it the most abiect among men.
"'La sentence est prononcée par le décret des veilleurs et la demande par la parole des saints, afin que les vivants sachent que le Très-Haut règne sur le royaume des hommes, qu'il le donne à qui il veut et qu'il y établit le plus humble des hommes.''
18 This is the dreame, that I King Nebuchad-nezzar haue seene: therefore thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof: for all the wisemen of my kingdome are not able to shewe mee the interpretation: but thou art able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
« Moi, roi Nabuchodonosor, j'ai vu ce rêve; et toi, Belteshatsar, tu en donnes l'interprétation, car tous les sages de mon royaume ne sont pas capables de m'en donner l'interprétation; mais toi, tu le peux, car l'esprit des dieux saints est en toi. »
19 Then Daniel (whose name was Belteshazzar) held his peace by the space of one houre, and his thoughts troubled him, and the King spake and said, Belteshazzar, let neither the dreame, nor the interpretation thereof trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and saide, My lord, the dreame be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
Alors Daniel, dont le nom était Belteshazzar, fut frappé de mutisme pendant quelque temps, et ses pensées le troublaient. Le roi lui répondit: « Belteshazzar, ne te laisse pas troubler par le rêve ou l'interprétation. » Beltschatsar répondit: « Mon seigneur, que le songe soit pour ceux qui te haïssent, et son interprétation pour tes adversaires.
20 The tree that thou sawest, which was great and mightie, whose height reached vnto the heauen, and the sight thereof through all the world,
L'arbre que tu as vu, qui croissait et se fortifiait, dont la hauteur atteignait le ciel et la vue toute la terre,
21 Whose leaues were faire and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meate for all, vnder the which the beastes of the fielde dwelt, and vpon whose branches the foules of the heauen did sit,
dont le feuillage était beau et les fruits abondants, et dans lequel il y avait de la nourriture pour tous, sous lequel vivaient les animaux des champs et sur les branches duquel avaient leur demeure les oiseaux du ciel,
22 It is thou, O King, that art great and mightie: for thy greatnesse is growen, and reacheth vnto heauen, and thy dominion to the endes of the earth.
c'est toi, ô roi, qui as grandi et qui t'es fortifié, car ta grandeur s'est accrue et atteint le ciel, et ta domination l'extrémité de la terre.
23 Where as the King sawe a watchman, and an holy one, that came downe from heauen, and said, Hew downe the tree and destroy it, yet leaue the stumpe of the rootes thereof in the earth, and with a bande of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wette with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes of the fielde, till seuen times passe ouer him,
« Le roi vit un saint gardien descendre du ciel et dire: « Abattez l'arbre et détruisez-le; mais laissez la souche de ses racines dans la terre, avec une bande de fer et de bronze, dans l'herbe tendre des champs, et qu'elle soit mouillée de la rosée du ciel. Que sa part soit avec les animaux des champs, jusqu'à ce que sept temps passent sur lui.''
24 This is the interpretation, O King, and it is the decree of the most High, which is come vpon my lord the King,
« Voici l'interprétation, ô roi, et c'est le décret du Très-Haut, qui est tombé sur mon seigneur le roi:
25 That they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beasts of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse as the oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dewe of heauen: and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, till thou knowe, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whom so euer he will.
Tu seras chassé des hommes et ta demeure sera avec les animaux des champs. On te fera manger de l'herbe comme les bœufs, tu seras mouillé de la rosée du ciel, et sept temps passeront sur toi, jusqu'à ce que tu saches que le Très-Haut règne sur le royaume des hommes et le donne à qui il veut.
26 Where as they sayd, that one should leaue the stumpe of the tree rootes, thy kingdome shall remaine vnto thee: after that, thou shalt knowe, that the heauens haue the rule.
Alors qu'il a été ordonné de laisser la souche des racines de l'arbre, votre royaume vous sera assuré après que vous saurez que le Ciel règne.
27 Wherefore, O King, let my counsell be acceptable vnto thee, and breake off thy sinnes by righteousnes, and thine iniquities by mercy toward the poore: lo, let there be an healing of thine errour.
C'est pourquoi, ô roi, que mon conseil te soit agréable, et que tu effaces tes péchés par la justice, et tes iniquités par la miséricorde envers les pauvres. Peut-être y aura-t-il un prolongement de ta tranquillité. »
28 All these things shall come vpon the King Nebuchad-nezzar.
Tout cela arriva au roi Nebucadnetsar.
29 At the end of twelue moneths, he walked in the royall palace of Babel.
Au bout de douze mois, il se promenait dans le palais royal de Babylone.
30 And the King spake and sayde, Is not this great Babel, that I haue built for the house of the kingdome by the might of my power, and for the honour of my maiestie?
Le roi prit la parole et dit: « N'est-ce pas là la grande Babylone, que j'ai bâtie pour la résidence royale par la puissance de ma force et pour la gloire de ma majesté? »
31 While the worde was in the Kings mouth, a voyce came downe from heauen, saying, O King Nebuchad-nezzar, to thee be it spoken, Thy kingdome is departed from thee,
Comme cette parole était dans la bouche du roi, une voix vint du ciel et dit: « Roi Nebucadnetsar, c'est à toi qu'il est dit: Le royaume s'est éloigné de toi.
32 And they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse, as the oxen, and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, vntill thou knowest, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it vnto whomsoeuer he will.
Tu seras chassé des hommes, et ta demeure sera avec les animaux des champs. On te fera manger de l'herbe comme les bœufs. Sept temps passeront sur toi, jusqu'à ce que tu saches que le Très-Haut règne sur le royaume des hommes, et qu'il le donne à qui il veut.'"
33 The very same houre was this thing fulfilled vpon Nebuchad-nezzar, and hee was driuen from men, and did eate grasse as the oxen, and his body was wet with the dewe of heauen, till his heares were growen as eagles feathers, and his nailes like birds clawes.
Cela s'accomplit à l'heure même sur Nabuchodonosor. Il fut chassé des hommes et mangea de l'herbe comme les bœufs; et son corps fut mouillé de la rosée du ciel jusqu'à ce que ses cheveux eussent poussé comme des plumes d'aigle, et ses ongles comme des griffes d'oiseau.
34 And at the ende of these dayes I Nebuchad-nezzar lift vp mine eyes vnto heauen, and mine vnderstanding was restored vnto me, and I gaue thankes vnto the most High, and I praysed and honoured him that liueth for euer, whose power is an euerlasting power, and his kingdome is from generation to generation.
A la fin des jours, moi, Nabuchodonosor, j'ai levé les yeux vers le ciel, et mon intelligence m'est revenue; j'ai béni le Très-Haut, et j'ai loué et honoré celui qui vit éternellement, car sa domination est une domination éternelle, et son royaume de génération en génération.
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and according to his will he worketh in the armie of heauen, and in the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, nor say vnto him, What doest thou?
Tous les habitants de la terre sont considérés comme des moins que rien; et il fait ce qu'il veut dans l'armée du ciel, et parmi les habitants de la terre; et personne ne peut arrêter sa main, ou lui demander: « Qu'est-ce que tu fais? »
36 At the same time was mine vnderstanding restored vnto me, and I returned to the honour of my kingdome: my glory and my beautie was restored vnto me, and my counsellours and my princes sought vnto me, and I was established in my kingdome, and my glory was augmented toward me.
En même temps, mon intelligence me revint; et pour la gloire de mon royaume, ma majesté et mon éclat me revinrent. Mes conseillers et mes seigneurs me recherchaient, et j'étais affermi dans mon royaume, et une grandeur excellente m'était ajoutée.
37 Now therefore I Nebuchad-nezzar prayse and extoll and magnifie the King of heauen, whose workes are all trueth, and his wayes iudgement, and those that walke in pride, he is able to abase.
Maintenant, moi, Nebucadnetsar, je loue, j'exalte et j'honore le roi des cieux, car toutes ses œuvres sont vérité, et ses voies justice; et ceux qui marchent dans l'orgueil, il est capable de les abaisser.
