Amos 6
1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion and trust in the moutaine of Samaria, which were famous at the beginning of the nations: and the house of Israel came to them.
Malheur à vous, qui vous croyez en sécurité à Sion, et à vous, si pleins de quiétude sur le mont de Samarie, qui formez l’élite de la première des nations et attirez à vous la maison d’Israël!
2 Goe you vnto Calneh, and see: and from thence goe you to Hamath the great: then goe downe to Gath of the Philistims: be they better then these kingdomes? or the border of their land greater then your border,
Passez donc à Calné et regardez; de là, rendez-vous à Hamath-la-Grande, puis descendez à Gath au pays des Philistins: sont-ils plus prospères que ces royaumes-ci, leur territoire est-il plus considérable que le vôtre?
3 Ye that put farre away the euill day, and approch to the seate of iniquitie?
Vous vous imaginez reculer le jour du malheur et vous avancez le règne de la violence!
4 They lie vpon beddes of yuorie, and stretch themselues vpon their beddes, and eate the lambes of the flocke, and the calues out of the stall.
Couchés sur des lits d’ivoire, étendus sur leurs divans, nourris d’agneaux choisis dans le troupeau, de veaux mis à l’engrais,
5 They sing to the sounde of the viole: they inuent to themselues instruments of musike like Dauid.
fredonnant au son du luth, comme David inventant à leur usage des instruments de musique,
6 They drinke wine in bowles, and anoynt themselues with the chiefe ointments, but no man is sory for the affliction of Ioseph.
ils boivent du vin à même les amphores, se frottent d’huiles de choix et ne s’affligent guère du désastre de Joseph!
7 Therefore nowe shall they go captiue with the first that go captiue, and the sorow of them that stretched themselues, is at hand.
C’Est pourquoi, tantôt, ils s’en iront en tête des déportés; alors c’en sera fini des chants bruyants de ces voluptueux.
8 The Lord God hath sworne by himselfe, saith the Lord God of hostes, I abhorre the excellencie of Iaakob, and hate his palaces: therefore wil I deliuer vp the citie with all that is therein.
"Le Seigneur a juré par lui-même, c’est la parole de l’Eternel Dieu-Cebaot: Je déteste l’orgueil de Jacob, je hais ses palais, je livrerai donc en proie la ville et ce qu’elle renferme.
9 And if there remaine ten men in one house, they shall die.
Que s’il reste dix hommes dans une maison, ils mourront.
10 And his vncle shall take him vp and burne him to cary out the bones out of the house, and shall say vnto him, that is by ye sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? And he shall say, None. Then shall he say, Holde thy tongue: for we may not remember the Name of the Lord.
Et quand le proche parent, chargé de l’incinération, emportera le corps afin de débarrasser la maison des ossements, il demandera à celui qui se trouve au fond de l’appartement: "Y a-t-il encore quelqu’un?", et l’autre répondra: "Non, personne!" et ajoutera: "Silence!" car ce ne sera pas le moment de prononcer le nom de l’Eternel."
11 For behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the litle house with clefts.
En vérité, l’Eternel donne des ordres: il fera tomber en ruines les grandes maisons et mettra en morceaux les petites.
12 Shal horses runne vpon the rocke? or wil one plowe there with oxen? for yee haue turned iudgement into gall, and the fruite of righteousnes into wormewood.
Est-ce que les chevaux courent sur le roc? Le laboure-t-on avec des bœufs? Mais vous, vous avez changé le bon droit en poison, et l’œuvre de la justice en plante vénéneuse.
13 Ye reioyce in a thing of nought: yee say, Haue not wee gotten vs hornes by our owne strength?
Vous trouvez votre joie dans ce qui est néant, vous dites: "N’Est-ce pas grâce à notre énergie que nous avons conquis la puissance?"
14 But behold, I wil raise vp against you a nation, O house of Israel, sayeth the Lord God of hostes: and they shall afflict you, from the entring in of Hamath vnto the riuer of the wildernes.
Eh bien! Me voici, suscitant contre vous, maison d’Israël, dit l’Eternel, Dieu-Cebaot, un peuple qui vous serrera de près dès la région de Hamath jusqu’au torrent de la Plaine.
