Acts 8
1 And Saul consented to his death, and at that time, there was a great persecution against the Church which was at Hierusalem, and they were all scattered abroad thorowe the regions of Iudea and of Samaria, except the Apostles.
Saulus setuju bahwa Stefanus haruslah dibunuh. Pada hari itu penganiayaan besar mulai terjadi terhadap orang percaya di Yerusalem, dan setiap orang kecuali para rasul tersebar ke seluruh Yudea dan Samaria.
2 Then certaine men fearing God, caried Steuen amongs them, to be buried, and made great lamentation for him.
(Beberapa pengikut Allah yang setia menguburkan Stefanus, dengan berkabung yang besar.)
3 But Saul made hauocke of the Church, and entred into euery house, and drewe out both men and women, and put them into prison.
Tetapi Saulus sedang bersiap-siap menghancurkan kumpulan orang percaya, berangkat dari rumah ke rumah, menyeret baik laki-laki maupun perempuan ke dalam penjara.
4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad, went to and from preaching the worde.
Dan mereka yang tersebar ke seluruh daerah menyebarkan juga Firman ke manapun mereka pergi.
5 Then came Philip into the citie of Samaria, and preached Christ vnto them.
Filipus pergi ke kota di daerah Samaria, dan memberitahu mereka tentang Mesias.
6 And the people gaue heed vnto those things which Philippe spake, with one accorde, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
Ketika orang banyak mendengar perkataan Filipus dan melihat perbuatan ajaib yang dilakukannya, mereka memperhatikan setiap pengajaran yang dia berikan.
7 For vncleane spirits crying with a loud voyce, came out of many that were possessed of them: and many taken with palsies, and that halted, were healed.
Banyak di antara mereka yang dilepaskan dari kerasukan setan yang menjerit ketika keluar dari orang yang mereka jadikan tempat berdiam, dan banyak di antara mereka yang lumpuh atau cacat disembuhkan.
8 And there was great ioy in that citie.
Orang-orang yang hidup di kota itu sangat bersukacita.
9 And there was before in the citie a certaine man called Simon, which vsed witchcraft, and bewitched the people of Samaria, saying that he himselfe was some great man.
Di kota itu ada seorang bernama Simon yang mempraktekkan ilmu sihir. Dia menyatakan bahwa dia adalah seorang yang sangat penting, dan sudah membuat orang-orang Samaria terpesona,
10 To whome they gaue heede from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is that great power of God.
sehingga ereka memperhatikan perkataan dia. Mulai dari orang biasa sampai ke orang penting di kota itu berkata, “Laki-laki ini adalah ‘Allah dengan Kuasa Besar.’”
11 And they gaue heed vnto him, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
Mereka terpesona karena dia sudah menawan mereka dengan sihirnya sejak lama.
12 But assoone as they beleeued Philip, which preached the thinges that concerned the kingdome of God, and the Name of Iesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women.
Tetapi ketika mereka menjadi percaya karena ucapan Filipus tentang kabar baik Kerjaan Allah dan nama Yesus Kristus, mereka semua dibaptis, baik laki-laki maupun perempuan.
13 Then Simon himselfe beleeued also and was baptized, and continued with Philippe, and wondred, when he sawe the signes and great miracles which were done.
Simon juga menjadi orang percaya dan dibaptis. Dia mengikuti Filipus, kagum akan tanda-tanda dan perbuatan-perbuatan ajaib yang dia lihat.
14 Nowe when the Apostles, which were at Hierusalem, heard say, that Samaria had receiued the worde of God, they sent vnto them Peter and Iohn.
Ketika para rasul yang ada di Yerusalem mendengar bahwa orang-orang di Samaria sudah menerima Firman Allah, mereka mengirim Petrus dan Yohanes untuk mengunjungi orang-orang itu.
15 Which whe they were come downe, prayed for them, that they might receiue the holy Ghost.
Ketika mereka tiba di tempat itu, mereka berdoa agar orang-orang percaya yang ada di Samaria menerima Roh Kudus.
16 (For as yet, hee was fallen downe on none of them, but they were baptized onely in the Name of the Lord Iesus.)
Orang-orang percaya ini memang sudah dibaptis dalam nama Yesus Tuhan, tetapi mereka belum dipenuhi oleh Roh Kudus.
17 Then layd they their handes on them, and they receiued the holy Ghost.
Para rasul meletakkan tangan mereka ke atas orang-orang percaya ini, dan mereka menerima Roh Kudus.
18 And when Simon sawe, that through laying on of the Apostles hands the holy Ghost was giuen, he offred them money,
Ketika Simon melihat bahwa Roh Kudus diberikan ketika para rasul meletakkan tangan mereka ke atas orang-orang, Simon menawarkan sejumlah uang kepada mereka.
19 Saying, Giue mee also this power, that on whomsoeuer I lay the handes, he may receiue the holy Ghost.
“Berikan kepadaku kuasa itu juga,” katanya kepada mereka, “agar setiap orang yang aku letakkan tangan ke atas mereka menerima Roh Kudus.”
20 Then saide Peter vnto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou thinkest that the gift of God may be obteined with money.
“Kiranya uangmu binasa bersama-sama dengan kamu sebab kamu memiliki pikiran bahwa pemberian Allah adalah sesuatu yang bisa dibeli dengan uang!” jawab Petrus.
21 Thou hast neither part nor fellowship in this businesse: for thine heart is not right in the sight of God.
“Kamu bukanlah bagian dalam pekerjaan ini. Tindakanmu benar-benar salah dalam pandangan Allah.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickednes, and pray God, that if it be possible, the thought of thine heart may be forgiuen thee.
Berhentilah berbuat jahat dan kembalilah berbuat yang benar! Berdoalah kepada Tuhan dan mintalah pengampunan dari-Nya oleh karena pikiranmu ini.
23 For I see that thou art in the gall of bitternes, and in the bonde of iniquitie.
Sudah jelas terlihat bahwa kamu penuh dengan iri hati dan kamu terjerat dalam dosa-dosamu.”
24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye haue spoken, come vpon me.
“Tolong doakan saya, agar segala yang kamu katakan tidak terjadi atas diriku!” jawab Simon.
25 So they, when they had testified and preached the worde of the Lord, returned to Hierusalem, and preached the Gospel in many townes of the Samaritans.
Sesudah Petrus dan Yohanes memberikan kesaksian dan memberitakan Firman Tuhan, kembalilah mereka ke Yerusalem, menceritakan kabar baik kepada desa-desa di Samaria dalam perjalanan pulang mereka.
26 Then the Angel of the Lord spake vnto Philip, saying, Arise, and goe towarde the South vnto the way that goeth downe from Hierusalem vnto Gaza, which is waste.
Pada suatu hari salah satu malaikat Tuhan berbicara kepada Filipus, “Bersiap-siaplah dan pergilah ke arah selatan ke jalan di padang pasir yang menghubungkan antara Yerusalem dan Gaza.”
27 And hee arose and went on: and beholde, a certaine Eunuche of Ethiopia, Candaces the Queene of the Ethiopians chiefe Gouernour, who had the rule of all her treasure, and came to Hierusalem to worship:
Maka berangkatlah Filipus, dan bertemu dengan seorang dari Etopia, seorang kasim yang memiliki posisi yang tinggi dari Kandake, Ratu Etopia. Orang ini adalah bendahara kerajaan. Dia pergi ke Yerusalem untuk menyembah dan
28 And as he returned sitting in his charet, he read Esaias the Prophet.
sedang dalam perjalanan pulang kembali ke daerah asalnya, dan sedang duduk dalam sebuah kereta kuda. Dia membaca salah satu bagian dari ktiab Yesaya dengan suara keras.
29 Then the Spirit said vnto Philip, Goe neere and ioyne thy selfe to yonder charet.
Roh Kudus berbicara kepada Filipus, “Mendekatlah ke arah kereta itu.”
30 And Philip ranne thither, and heard him reade the Prophet Esaias, and said, But vnderstandest thou what thou readest?
Maka Filipus berlari menghampiri, dan mendengar si laki-laki membaca dari kitab nabi Yesaya. “Apakah Engkau mengerti apa yang Engkau baca?” tanya Filipus.
31 And he saide, Howe can I, except I had a guide? And he desired Philip, that he would come vp and sit with him.
“Bagaimana bisa saya mengerti jika tidak ada seorangpun yang bisa menjelaskannya kepada saya?” jawab laki-laki itu. Dia mengundang Filipus untuk naik dan duduk di selelahnya.
32 Nowe the place of the Scripture which he read, was this, Hee was lead as a sheepe to the slaughter: and like a lambe domme before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth.
Bagian Kitab Suci yang dia baca adalah ini: “Dia dituntun seperti seekor domba yang hendak disembelih. Seperti anak domba yang diam di hadapan orang yang akan menggunting bulunya, tidak satu katapun yang dia ucapkan.
33 In his humilitie his iudgement hath bene exalted: but who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
Dia dipermalukan dan tidak mengalami keadilan. Tidak seorangpun yang berkata apa-apa mengenai keturunannya, sebab hidupnya sudah sampai titik penghabisan.”
34 Then the Eunuche answered Philippe, and saide, I pray thee of whome speaketh the Prophet this? of himselfe, or of some other man?
Sang kasim bertanya kepada Filipus, “Beritahu saya, siapa yang dimaksud oleh sang nabi? Apakah dia berbicara tentang dirinya sendiri, atau orang lian?”
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same Scripture, and preached vnto him Iesus.
Filipus mulai menjelaskan, mulai dari Kitab Suci ini, memberitahunya tentang Yesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came vnto a certaine water, and the Eunuche said, See, here is water: what doeth let me to be baptized?
Ketika mereka melanjutkan perjalanan, mereka tiba di sebuah tempat yang ada airnya. Sang kasim berkata, “Dengar, ada air di sini — mengapa aku tidak dibaptis?”
37 And Philippe said vnto him, If thou beleeuest with all thine heart, thou mayest. Then he answered, and saide, I beleeue that that Iesus Christ is that Sonne of God.
38 Then he commanded the charet to stand stil: and they went downe both into the water, both Philip and the Eunuche, and he baptized him.
Dia memerintahkan agar kereta itu dihentikan. Filipus dan sang kasim masuk ke dalam air dan Filipus membaptis dia.
39 And assoone as they were come vp out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the Eunuche sawe him no more: so he went on his way reioycing.
Ketika mereka keluar dari air, Roh yang dari Tuhan membawa Filipus pergi. Sang kasim tidak pernah melihat dia lagi, tetapi sang kasim meneruskan perjalanan dengan penuh sukacita. Dan Filipus sendiri pergi ke Azotus.
40 But Philippe was found at Azotus, and he walked to and from preaching in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea.
Dan dia menyebarkan Kabar Baik di seluruh kota sepanjang perjalanannya menuju Kaisarea.
