Acts 7
1 Then sayd the chiefe Priest, Are these things so?
അപ്പോൾ മഹാപുരോഹിതൻ, “ഈ ആരോപണങ്ങൾ സത്യമോ” എന്നു സ്തെഫാനൊസിനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
2 And he sayd, Ye men, brethren and Fathers, hearken. That God of glory appeared vnto our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
അതിന് അദ്ദേഹം ഇപ്രകാരം മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “സഹോദരന്മാരേ, പിതാക്കന്മാരേ, ദയവായി എന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ കേട്ടാലും! നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാം ഹാരാനിൽ വന്നു താമസിക്കുന്നതിനുമുമ്പ് മെസൊപ്പൊത്താമിയയിൽ ആയിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, തേജോമയനായ ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.
3 And said vnto him, Come out of thy countrey, and from thy kindred, and come into the land, which I shall shewe thee.
ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്, ‘നിന്റെ ദേശത്തെയും നിന്റെ ബന്ധുക്കളെയും വിട്ട്, ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് അവകാശമായി തരാനിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുക’ എന്ന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And after that his father was dead, God brought him from thence into this land, wherein ye now dwell,
“അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം കൽദയരുടെ നാടുവിട്ട് ഹാരാനിൽ വന്നു താമസിച്ചു. തന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ മരണശേഷം ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ, നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ താമസിക്കുന്ന ഈ ദേശത്തേക്ക് അയച്ചു.
5 And hee gaue him none inheritance in it, no, not the bredth of a foote: yet he promised that he would giue it to him for a possession, and to his seede after him, when as yet hee had no childe.
അവിടന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഇവിടെ ഒരുചുവടു ഭൂമിപോലും ഒരവകാശമായി നൽകിയില്ല. ആ സമയത്ത് അബ്രാഹാമിനു മക്കൾ ജനിച്ചിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു. എങ്കിലും അബ്രാഹാമും, ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പിൻഗാമികളും ഈ ദേശം കൈവശമാക്കുമെന്നു ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു വാഗ്ദാനം നൽകി.
6 But God spake thus, that his seede should be a soiourner in a strange land: and that they should keepe it in bondage, and entreate it euill foure hundreth yeeres.
ദൈവം അബ്രാഹാമിനോട് ഇങ്ങനെ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: ‘നിന്റെ പിൻഗാമികൾ സ്വന്തമല്ലാത്ത ഒരു ദേശത്ത് പ്രവാസികൾ ആയിരിക്കുകയും നാനൂറുവർഷം അവർ അവിടെ അടിമകളായി പീഡനം സഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.
7 But the nation to whome they shall be in bondage, will I iudge, sayth God: and after that, they shall come forth and serue me in this place.
എന്നാൽ അവർ അടിമകളായി സേവിക്കുന്ന രാജ്യത്തെ ഞാൻ ശിക്ഷിക്കും. അതിനുശേഷം അവർ ആ ദേശം വിട്ടുപോരുകയും ഈ സ്ഥലത്തുവന്ന് എന്നെ ആരാധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.’
8 Hee gaue him also the couenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begate Isaac, and circumcised him the eight day: and Isaac begate Iacob, and Iacob the twelue Patriarkes.
പിന്നീട് ദൈവം അബ്രാഹാമിന് പരിച്ഛേദനമെന്ന ഉടമ്പടി നൽകി. അബ്രാഹാമിന് യിസ്ഹാക്ക് ജനിച്ചു. എട്ടാംദിവസം അദ്ദേഹം ശിശുവിനു പരിച്ഛേദനകർമം നടത്തി. യിസ്ഹാക്കിൽനിന്ന് യാക്കോബും യാക്കോബിൽനിന്ന് പന്ത്രണ്ട് ഗോത്രപിതാക്കന്മാരും ജനിച്ചു.
9 And the Patriarkes moued with enuie, solde Ioseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
“ഗോത്രപിതാക്കന്മാർ അസൂയനിമിത്തം യോസേഫിനെ ഒരടിമയായി ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്കു വിറ്റുകളഞ്ഞു.
10 And deliuered him out of all his afflictions, and gaue him fauour and wisdome in the sight of Pharao King of Egypt, who made him gouernour ouer Egypt, and ouer his whole house.
എന്നാൽ, ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തോടുകൂടെയിരുന്ന് എല്ലാ ദുരിതങ്ങളിൽനിന്നും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വിടുവിച്ചു. അവിടന്ന് യോസേഫിനു ജ്ഞാനം നൽകുകയും ഈജിപ്റ്റിലെ രാജാവായിരുന്ന ഫറവോന്റെ പ്രീതിപാത്രമാകാൻ ഇടയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഫറവോൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിന്റെമാത്രമല്ല തന്റെ രാജധാനിയുടെയുംകൂടെ ഭരണാധിപനായി നിയമിച്ചു.
11 Then came there a famine ouer all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction, that our fathers found no sustenance.
“അതിനുശേഷം ഈജിപ്റ്റിലെല്ലായിടത്തും കനാനിലും ക്ഷാമവും വലിയ ദുരിതങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായി. നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർക്ക് ആഹാരം ലഭ്യമല്ലാതായി.
12 But when Iacob heard that there was corne in Egypt, he sent our fathers first:
ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ ധാന്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നു കേട്ടു യാക്കോബ് നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെ ആദ്യമായി അവിടേക്കയച്ചു.
13 And at the second time, Ioseph was knowen of his brethren, and Iosephs kindred was made knowen vnto Pharao.
രണ്ടാമതു ചെന്നപ്പോൾ യോസേഫ്, താൻ ആരാണെന്ന് സഹോദരന്മാർക്ക് വ്യക്തമാക്കി. അങ്ങനെ യോസേഫിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ഫറവോൻ അറിഞ്ഞു.
14 Then sent Ioseph and caused his father to be brought, and all his kindred, euen threescore and fifteene soules.
പിന്നീട് യോസേഫ് തന്റെ പിതാവായ യാക്കോബിനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ മുഴുവനും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ ആളയച്ചു. അവർ ആകെ എഴുപത്തിയഞ്ചു പേരുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
15 So Iacob went downe into Egypt, and he dyed, and our fathers,
അങ്ങനെ യാക്കോബ് ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്കു യാത്രയായി. അവിടെ അദ്ദേഹവും നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരും മൃതിയടഞ്ഞു.
16 And were remoued into Sychem, and were put in the sepulchre, that Abraham had bought for money of the sonnes of Emor, sonne of Sychem.
അവരുടെ മൃതദേഹങ്ങൾ തിരികെ ശേഖേമിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് അവിടെ ഹാമോരിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരോട് അബ്രാഹാം വിലകൊടുത്തു വാങ്ങിയിരുന്ന കല്ലറയിൽ അടക്കംചെയ്തു.
17 But when the time of the promise drewe neere, which God had sworne to Abraham, the people grewe and multiplied in Egypt,
“അബ്രാഹാമിനോടുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വാഗ്ദാനം നിറവേറുവാനുള്ള കാലം അടുത്തപ്പോഴേക്കും, ഈജിപ്റ്റിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന നമ്മുടെ ജനം വളരെ വർധിച്ചിരുന്നു.
18 Till another King arose, which knewe not Ioseph.
കാലങ്ങൾ കടന്നുപോയി, ‘യോസേഫിനെ അറിയാത്ത മറ്റൊരു രാജാവ് ഈജിപ്റ്റിന്റെ ഭരണാധിപനായിത്തീർന്നു.’
19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and euill entreated our fathers, and made them to cast out their yong children, that they should not remaine aliue.
അയാൾ നമ്മുടെ ജനത്തോടു കൗശലപൂർവം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും ഉപായം പ്രയോഗിച്ച് നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുകയും അവരുടെ ശിശുക്കൾ മരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് അവരെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകളയാൻ നിർബന്ധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
20 The same time was Moses borne, and was acceptable vnto God, which was nourished vp in his fathers house three moneths.
“ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിലാണ് മോശ ജനിച്ചത്. അസാധാരണ സൗന്ദര്യമുള്ള ഒരു ശിശുവായിരുന്നു മോശ. ശിശുവിനെ മൂന്നുമാസം പിതൃഭവനത്തിൽ വളർത്തി.
21 And when he was cast out, Pharaohs daughter tooke him vp, and nourished him for her owne sonne.
അതിനുശേഷം കുഞ്ഞിനെ പുറത്ത് ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ഫറവോന്റെ പുത്രി അവനെ എടുത്തു സ്വന്തം മകനായി വളർത്തി.
22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdome of the Egyptians, and was mightie in wordes and in deedes.
മോശ ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരുടെ എല്ലാ വിദ്യകളും അഭ്യസിച്ചു; അദ്ദേഹം പ്രഭാഷണകലയിലും ഇതരമേഖലകളിലും പ്രാവീണ്യംനേടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
23 Nowe when he was full fourtie yeere olde, it came into his heart to visite his brethren, the children of Israel.
“മോശ നാൽപ്പതു വയസ്സായപ്പോൾ ഇസ്രായേല്യരായ തന്റെ സഹോദരങ്ങളെ സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു.
24 And whe he saw one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and auenged his quarell that had the harme done to him, and smote the Egyptian.
തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളെ ഒരു ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരൻ ദ്രോഹിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടിട്ട് മോശ അവന്റെ രക്ഷയ്ക്കു ചെല്ലുകയും ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരനെ കൊന്ന്, പീഡിതനുവേണ്ടി പ്രതികാരംചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു.
25 For hee supposed his brethren would haue vnderstand, that God by his hande should giue them deliuerance: but they vnderstoode it not.
മോശ കരുതിയത്, സ്വജനത്തിനു വിമോചനം നൽകാൻ ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് അവർ മനസ്സിലാക്കും എന്നാണ്. എന്നാൽ അവർക്കതു മനസ്സിലായില്ല.
26 And the next day, he shewed himselfe vnto them as they stroue, and woulde haue set them at one againe, saying, Syrs, ye are brethren: why doe ye wrong one to another?
അടുത്തദിവസം, പരസ്പരം ശണ്ഠകൂടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന രണ്ട് ഇസ്രായേല്യരുടെ സമീപത്ത് മോശ എത്തി, ‘എന്താണിത് മനുഷ്യരേ, നിങ്ങൾ സഹോദരന്മാരല്ലേ? നിങ്ങൾ എന്തിനു പരസ്പരം ദ്രോഹിക്കുന്നു?’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അവരെ അനുരഞ്ജിപ്പിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു.
27 But he that did his neighbour wrong, thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a prince, and a iudge ouer vs?
“എന്നാൽ, അവരിൽ അക്രമം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചയാൾ മോശയെ തള്ളിമാറ്റിയിട്ടു ചോദിച്ചു, ‘നിന്നെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ അധികാരിയും ന്യായാധിപനുമായി നിയമിച്ചതാര്?
28 Wilt thou kill mee, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?
ഇന്നലെ ഈജിപ്റ്റുകാരനെ കൊന്നതുപോലെ എന്നെയും കൊല്ലാമെന്നാണോ നിന്റെ വിചാരം?’
29 Then fled Moses at that saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begate two sonnes.
ഇതു കേട്ടപ്പോൾ മോശ മിദ്യാൻ ദേശത്തേക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോയി, അവിടെ ഒരു പ്രവാസിയായി താമസിച്ചു. അവിടെവെച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു രണ്ട് പുത്രന്മാർ ജനിച്ചു.
30 And when fourtie yeres were expired, there appeared to him in the wildernes of mout Sina, an Angel of the Lord in a flame of fire, in a bush.
“അവിടെ നാൽപ്പതുവർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ സീനായ് മലയുടെ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ, മുൾപ്പടർപ്പിലെ അഗ്നിജ്വാലയിൽ ഒരു ദൈവദൂതൻ മോശയ്ക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.
31 And when Moses sawe it, hee wondred at the sight: and as he drew neere to consider it, the voyce of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
മോശ ആ കാഴ്ച കണ്ട് ആശ്ചര്യപ്പെട്ടു സൂക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കാൻ അടുത്തുചെന്നപ്പോൾ കർത്താവിന്റെ ശബ്ദം കേട്ടു,
32 I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold it.
‘ഞാൻ നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമാണ്—അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെയും യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെയും യാക്കോബിന്റെയും ദൈവംതന്നെ.’ ഭയംകൊണ്ടു വിറച്ച മോശ പിന്നെ നോക്കാൻ ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടില്ല.
33 Then the Lord said to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feete: for the place where thou standest, is holy ground.
“അപ്പോൾ കർത്താവ് അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്, ‘നീ നിൽക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം വിശുദ്ധഭൂമിയാകുകയാൽ നിന്റെ ചെരിപ്പ് അഴിച്ചുമാറ്റുക,’ എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
34 I haue seene, I haue seene the affliction of my people, which is in Egypt, and I haue heard their groning, and am come downe to deliuer them: and nowe come, and I will sende thee into Egypt.
‘ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ എന്റെ ജനം അനുഭവിക്കുന്ന കഷ്ടത ഞാൻ കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു, നിശ്ചയം. അവരുടെ ഞരക്കം ഞാൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അവരെ മോചിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ ഇതാ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. വരൂ, ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്ക് തിരികെ അയയ്ക്കും’ എന്നും പറഞ്ഞു.
35 This Moses whome they forsooke, saying, Who made thee a prince and a iudge? the same God sent for a prince, and a deliuerer by the hand of the Angel, which appeared to him in the bush.
“ഈ മോശയെയാണ്, ‘നിന്നെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ അധികാരിയും ന്യായാധിപനുമായി നിയമിച്ചതാര്?’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് അവർ തിരസ്കരിച്ചത്. മുൾപ്പടർപ്പിൽ വെളിപ്പെട്ട ദൂതൻമുഖേന ദൈവം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അവർക്ക് അധികാരിയും വിമോചകനുമായിത്തന്നെ നിയോഗിച്ചു.
36 Hee brought them out, doing wonders, and miracles in the land of Egypt, and in the red sea, and in the wildernes fourtie yeeres.
നാൽപ്പതുവർഷം ഈജിപ്റ്റിലും ചെങ്കടലിലും മരുഭൂമിയിലും അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും ചിഹ്നങ്ങളും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് മോശ അവരെ നയിച്ചു.
37 This is that Moses, which saide vnto the children of Israel, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise vp vnto you, euen of your brethren, like vnto me: him shall ye heare.
“ഈ മോശതന്നെയാണ് ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കളോട്, നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്വന്തം ജനത്തിൽനിന്ന്, ‘എന്നെപ്പോലെ ഒരു പ്രവാചകനെ ദൈവം നിങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി എഴുന്നേൽപ്പിക്കും’ എന്നു പ്രവചിച്ചത്.
38 This is he that was in the Congregation, in the wildernes with the Angell, which spake to him in mount Sina, and with our fathers, who receiued the liuely oracles to giue vnto vs.
അദ്ദേഹമാണ് മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഇസ്രായേൽജനത്തോടൊപ്പവും സീനായ് മലയിൽ തന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ച ദൂതനോടുകൂടെയും നമ്മുടെ പൂർവികരോടുകൂടെയിരിക്കുകയും ജീവനുള്ള വചനം കൈപ്പറ്റി നമുക്ക് എത്തിച്ചുതരികയുംചെയ്തത്.
39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but refused, and in their hearts turned backe againe into Egypt:
“എന്നാൽ, നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ മോശയെ അനുസരിക്കാൻ താത്പര്യം കാണിക്കാതെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നിഷേധിച്ചു; അവർ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
40 Saying vnto Aaron, Make vs gods that may goe before vs: for we knowe not what is become of this Moses that brought vs out of the land of Egypt.
അവർ അഹരോനോട്: ‘ഞങ്ങളെ നയിക്കാൻ ദൈവങ്ങളെ ഉണ്ടാക്കിത്തരിക. ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് ഞങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ഈ മോശയ്ക്ക് എന്തു സംഭവിച്ചെന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾ അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
41 And they made a calfe in those dayes, and offered sacrifice vnto the idole, and reioyced in the workes of their owne handes.
അപ്പോഴാണ് അവർ കാളക്കിടാവിന്റെ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു വിഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയത്. അവർ അതിനു യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുകയും സ്വന്തം കരങ്ങളുടെ സൃഷ്ടിയിൽ തിമിർത്താടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
42 Then God turned himselfe away, and gaue them vp to serue the host of heauen, as it is written in the booke of the Prophets, O house of Israel, haue ye offred to me slaine beasts and sacrifices by the space of fourtie yeres in the wildernes?
എന്നാൽ, ദൈവം അവരിൽനിന്നു മുഖംതിരിച്ച് ആകാശശക്തികളെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ അവരെ വിട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു. ഇതിനെപ്പറ്റി പ്രവാചകപുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു: “‘ഇസ്രായേൽഗൃഹമേ, മരുഭൂമിയിൽ നാൽപ്പതു വർഷക്കാലം നിങ്ങൾ യാഗങ്ങളും വഴിപാടുകളും എനിക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നോ?
43 And ye tooke vp the tabernacle of Moloch, and the starre of your god Remphan, figures, which ye made to worship them: therefore I will carie you away beyond Babylon.
നിങ്ങൾ പൂജിക്കാനുണ്ടാക്കിയ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളായ മോലെക്കിന്റെ കൂടാരവും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദേവനായ രേഫാന്റെ നക്ഷത്രവും നിങ്ങൾ എഴുന്നള്ളിച്ചു. ആകയാൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ ബാബേലിനും അപ്പുറത്തേക്കു നാടുകടത്തും.’
44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witnes, in the wildernes, as hee had appointed, speaking vnto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seene.
“നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർക്കു മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ കൂടാരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതു മോശയ്ക്കു ദൈവം മാതൃക കാണിച്ച് കൽപ്പന നൽകിയതിന് അനുസൃതമായി നിർമിച്ചതായിരുന്നു.
45 Which tabernacle also our fathers receiued, and brought in with Iesus into the possession of the Gentiles, which God draue out before our fathers, vnto the dayes of Dauid:
നമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ അത് ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി; അവരുടെമുമ്പിൽനിന്ന് ദൈവം നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞ ജനതകളുടെ ദേശം അവർ യോശുവയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ കൈവശമാക്കിയപ്പോൾ ആ ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ കൂടാരം അവിടേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. ദാവീദിന്റെ കാലംവരെ അത് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
46 Who found fauour before God, and desired that hee might finde a tabernacle for the God of Iacob.
ദൈവകൃപ ലഭിച്ച ദാവീദ് യാക്കോബിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന് ഒരു നിവാസസ്ഥാനം നിർമിക്കാൻ ദൈവത്തോട് അനുമതി ചോദിച്ചു.
47 But Salomon built him an house.
എന്നാൽ, ശലോമോനായിരുന്നു ദൈവത്തിന് ഒരാലയം പണിതത്.
48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with handes, as saith the Prophet,
“എങ്കിലും പരമോന്നതൻ മനുഷ്യനിർമിതമായ മന്ദിരങ്ങളിൽ നിവസിക്കുന്നില്ല. പ്രവാചകൻ ഇങ്ങനെയാണല്ലോ പറയുന്നത്:
49 Heauen is my throne, and earth is my footestoole: what house wil ye build for me, saith the Lord? or what place is it that I should rest in?
“‘സ്വർഗം എന്റെ സിംഹാസനവും ഭൂമി എന്റെ പാദപീഠവും ആകുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾ എനിക്കായി പണിയുന്ന മന്ദിരം എങ്ങനെയുള്ളത്? എന്നു കർത്താവ് അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്റെ വിശ്രമസ്ഥലം എവിടെ?
50 Hath not mine hand made all these things?
എന്റെ കരങ്ങളാണല്ലോ ഇവയെല്ലാം നിർമിച്ചത്.’
51 Ye stiffenecked and of vncircumcised heartes and eares, ye haue alwayes resisted the holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you.
“ശാഠ്യക്കാരേ, ഹൃദയത്തിനും കാതുകൾക്കും പരിച്ഛേദനം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്തവരേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരെപ്പോലെതന്നെയാണു നിങ്ങളും. നിങ്ങൾ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെ എന്നും എതിർക്കുന്നവരാണ്.
52 Which of the Prophets haue not your fathers persecuted? and they haue slaine them, which shewed before of the comming of that Iust, of whome ye are now the betrayers and murtherers,
നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ പീഡിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഒരൊറ്റ പ്രവാചകനെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടോ? നീതിമാന്റെ വരവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രവചിച്ചവരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.
53 Which haue receiued the Lawe by the ordinance of Angels, and haue not kept it.
ദൂതന്മാർ മുഖാന്തരം ന്യായപ്രമാണം ലഭിച്ചവരെങ്കിലും അത് അനുസരിക്കാത്തവരായ നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ ആ നീതിമാനെ തിരസ്കരിച്ച് വധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”
54 But when they heard these thinges, their heartes brast for anger, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.
ഇത്രയും കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അവർ ക്രോധം നിറഞ്ഞവരായി സ്തെഫാനൊസിനുനേരേ പല്ലുകടിച്ചു.
55 But he being full of the holy Ghost, looked stedfastly into heauen, and sawe the glory of God, and Iesus standing at the right hand of God,
എന്നാൽ, സ്തെഫാനൊസ് പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു നിറഞ്ഞവനായി സ്വർഗത്തിലേക്കു ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുനോക്കി, ദൈവതേജസ്സും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വലതുഭാഗത്തു യേശു നിൽക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു.
56 And said, Beholde, I see the heauens open, and the Sonne of man standing at the right hand of God.
“ഇതാ, സ്വർഗം തുറന്നിരിക്കുന്നതും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വലതുഭാഗത്തു മനുഷ്യപുത്രൻ നിൽക്കുന്നതും ഞാൻ കാണുന്നു,” എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
57 Then they gaue a shoute with a loude voyce, and stopped their eares, and ranne vpon him violently all at once,
അപ്പോൾ, അവർ ചെവി പൊത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് അത്യുച്ചത്തിൽ കൂകിവിളിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുനേരേ ഒരുമിച്ചു പാഞ്ഞുചെന്നു.
58 And cast him out of the citie, and stoned him: and the witnesses layd downe their clothes at a yong mans feete, named Saul.
അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നഗരത്തിനു പുറത്തേക്കു വലിച്ചിഴച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയി കല്ലെറിയാൻ തുടങ്ങി. സാക്ഷികൾ അവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ശൗൽ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു യുവാവിന്റെ കാൽക്കൽ വെച്ചു.
59 And they stoned Steuen, who called on God, and said, Lord Iesus, receiue my spirit.
അവർ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ, “കർത്താവായ യേശുവേ, എന്റെ ആത്മാവിനെ കൈക്കൊള്ളണമേ” എന്നു സ്തെഫാനൊസ് പ്രാർഥിച്ചു.
60 And he kneeled downe, and cried with a loude voyce, Lord, laye not this sinne to their charge. And when he had thus spoken, he slept.
പിന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം മുട്ടുകുത്തി “കർത്താവേ, ഈ പാപം അവരുടെമേൽ നിർത്തരുതേ,” എന്ന് ഉച്ചത്തിൽ നിലവിളിച്ചു. ഇതു പറഞ്ഞശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം മരിച്ചുവീണു.
