Acts 26
1 Then Agrippa sayd vnto Paul, Thou art permitted to speake for thy selfe. So Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himselfe.
Agrippa sprach zu Paulus: "Ich gebe dir hiermit das Wort, dich zu verteidigen." Da streckte Paulus seine Hand aus und begann seine Verteidigungsrede.
2 I thinke my selfe happy, King Agrippa, because I shall answere this day before thee of all the things whereof I am accused of the Iewes.
"König Agrippa", so hob er an, "ich schätze mich glücklich, daß ich mich heute gegen alle Anklagen der Juden vor dir verteidigen darf,
3 Chiefly, because thou hast knowledge of all customes, and questions which are among the Iewes: wherefore I beseech thee, to heare me patiently.
besonders deshalb, weil dir alle jüdischen Gebräuche und Streitfragen bekannt sind. Darum bitte ich dich: höre mich geduldig an!
4 As touching my life from my childhood, and what it was from the beginning among mine owne nation at Hierusalem, know all the Iewes,
Wie ich von Anfang an seit meinen Jugendjahren unter meinem Volk in Jerusalem gelebt habe, das wissen alle Juden.
5 Which knewe me heretofore, euen from my elders (if they would testifie) that after the most straite sect of our religion I liued a Pharise.
Denn sie kennen mich seit langer Zeit und wissen, wenn sie nur der Wahrheit die Ehre geben wollten, daß ich der strengsten Richtung unseres Glaubens angehörte und ein Pharisäer war.
6 And now I stand and am accused for the hope of the promise made of God vnto our fathers.
Nun stehe ich hier vor Gericht, weil ich auf die Erfüllung der Verheißung hoffe, die unseren Vätern einst von Gott gegeben worden ist,
7 Whereunto our twelue tribes instantly seruing God day and night, hope to come: for the which hopes sake, O King Agrippa, I am accused of the Iewes.
und die auch die zwölf Stämme unseres Volkes zu erlangen hoffen, indem sie Gott bei Tag und Nacht mit angestrengtem Eifer dienen. Um dieser Hoffnung willen, o König, verklagen mich die Juden.
8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible vnto you, that God should raise againe the dead?
Warum haltet ihr's denn für unglaublich, daß Gott Tote auferweckt?
9 I also verely thought in my selfe, that I ought to doe many contrarie things against the Name of Iesus of Nazareth.
Ich dachte einst, ich müsse mit aller Macht der Sache Jesu von Nazaret entgegenarbeiten.
10 Which thing I also did in Hierusalem: for many of the Saints I shut vp in prison, hauing receiued authoritie of the hie Priests, and when they were put to death, I gaue my sentence.
Das habe ich denn auch in Jerusalem getan: Mit hohenpriesterlicher Vollmacht ausgerüstet, warf ich viele Heilige ins Gefängnis, und wenn sie hingerichtet werden sollten, stimmte ich dafür.
11 And I punished them throughout all the Synagogues, and compelled them to blaspheme, and being more mad against them, I persecuted them, euen vnto strange cities.
In allen jüdischen Versammlungshäusern suchte ich sie oft durch Strafe zur Lästerung (Jesu) zu bringen. Ja in meiner wilden Wut verfolgte ich sie sogar bis in die Städte außerhalb des Landes.
12 At which time, euen as I went to Damascus with authoritie, and commission from the hie Priests,
So zog ich denn zu gleichem Tun mit einer Vollmacht und Befugnis von den Hohenpriestern nach Damaskus.
13 At midday, O King, I sawe in the way a light from heauen, passing the brightnes of the sunne, shine round about mee, and them which went with me.
Als ich auf dem Weg dorthin war, sah ich, o König, gegen Mittag vom Himmel her ein Licht, heller als die Sonne, mich und meine Begleiter umstrahlen.
14 So when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voyce speaking vnto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? It is hard for thee to kicke against pricks.
Wir fielen alle zu Boden, und ich hörte eine Stimme auf hebräisch zu mir sagen: 'Saul, Saul, warum verfolgst du mich? Es ist dir schwer, gegen den Stachel auszuschlagen.'
15 Then I sayd, Who art thou, Lord? And he sayd, I am Iesus whom thou persecutest.
Ich sprach: 'Wer bist du, Herr?' Der Herr erwiderte: 'Ich bin Jesus, den du verfolgst.
16 But rise and stand vp on thy feete: for I haue appeared vnto thee for this purpose, to appoint thee a minister and a witnesse, both of the things which thou hast seene, and of the things in the which I will appeare vnto thee,
Doch stehe auf und stelle dich auf deine Füße! Denn dazu bin ich dir erschienen, um dich zu meinem Diener zu erwählen und zu meinem Zeugen von dem, was du gesehen hast, und was ich dich noch schauen lassen werden.
17 Deliuering thee from this people, and from the Gentiles, vnto whom now I send thee,
Dabei will ich dich schützen vor dem Volk (Israel) und vor den Heiden, zu denen ich dich sende,
18 To open their eyes, that they may turne from darknes to light, and from the power of Satan vnto God, that they may receiue forgiuenes of sinnes, and inheritance among them, which are sanctified by fayth in me.
um ihre Augen aufzutun, daß sie sich von der Finsternis zum Licht wenden und von des Satans Macht zu Gott, damit sie durch den Glauben an mich Vergebung der Sünden empfangen und ein Erbteil unter denen, die geheiligt sind.'
19 Wherefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient vnto the heauenly vision,
Darum, o König Agrippa, bin ich der himmlischen Erscheinung nicht ungehorsam gewesen.
20 But shewed first vnto them of Damascus, and at Hierusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Iudea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turne to God, and doe workes worthy amendment of life.
Sondern ich habe zuerst den Bewohnern von Damaskus und Jerusalem, dann der ganzen Landschaft Judäa und weiterhin den Heiden verkündigt, daß sie ihren Sinn ändern, sich zu Gott bekehren und Werke vollbringen müssen, die der Sinnesänderung entsprechen.
21 For this cause the Iewes caught me in the Temple, and went about to kill me.
Deshalb haben mich die Juden im Tempel ergriffen und zu töten versucht.
22 Neuertheles, I obteined helpe of God, and continue vnto this day, witnessing both to small and to great, saying none other things, then those which the Prophets and Moses did say should come,
Durch Gottes Beistand lebe ich heute noch und lege hoch und niedrig Zeugnis ab, indem ich nur das lehre, was die Propheten und auch Mose vorausverkündigt haben:
23 To wit, that Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light vnto this people, and to the Gentiles.
daß der Messias leiden und dann als Erstling der vom Tod Auferstandenen nicht nur dem Volk (Israel), sondern auch den Heiden Licht verkünden müsse..."
24 And as he thus answered for himselfe, Festus said with a loude voyce, Paul, thou art besides thy selfe: much learning doeth make thee mad.
Als sich Paulus so verteidigte, unterbrach ihn Festus mit dem lauten Ruf: "Du bist von Sinnen, Paulus! Deine große Gelehrsamkeit hat dich um den Verstand gebracht!"
25 But he said, I am not mad, O noble Festus, but I speake the wordes of trueth and sobernes.
Paulus erwiderte: "Ich bin nicht von Sinnen, hochedler Festus, sondern die Worte, die ich rede, sind wahr und vernünftig.
26 For the King knoweth of these things, before whom also I speake boldly: for I am perswaded that none of these things are hidden from him: for this thing was not done in a corner.
Der König, an den ich mich voll Freimut wende, weiß um diese Dinge. Denn ich glaube nicht, daß ihm etwas von dem allen unbekannt geblieben ist. Es hat sich ja auch nicht in einem abgelegenen Winkel abgespielt.
27 O King Agrippa, beleeuest thou the Prophets? I know that thou beleeuest.
Glaubst du, König Agrippa, den Propheten? Ich weiß, du glaubst."
28 Then Agrippa said vnto Paul, Almost thou perswadest me to become a Christian.
Da sprach Agrippa zu Paulus: "Es fehlt nur wenig, so überredest du mich, ein Christ zu werden."
29 Then Paul sayd, I would to God that not onely thou, but also all that heare me to day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.
Paulus antwortete: "Wollte Gott, es würden, mag nun wenig oder viel daran fehlen, nicht allein du, sondern alle, die mich heute hören, ganz ebenso wie ich — nur ausgenommen diese Ketten."
30 And when he had thus spoken, the King rose vp, and the gouernour, and Bernice, and they that sate with them.
Da erhoben sich der König, der Statthalter, Bernike und die übrige Versammlung.
31 And when they were gone apart, they talked betweene themselues, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death, nor of bonds.
Sie zogen sich zurück, redeten miteinander und sagten: "Dieser Mensch treibt nichts, was Tod oder Gefängnis verdient."
32 Then sayd Agrippa vnto Festus, This man might haue bene loosed, if hee had not appealed vnto Cesar.
Agrippa aber sprach zu Festus: "Dieser Mensch könnte freigelassen werden, wenn er sich nicht auf den Kaiser berufen hätte."
