Acts 18
1 After these thinges, Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinthus,
Après cela Paul étant parti d'Athènes, vint à Corinthe.
2 And found a certaine Iewe named Aquila, borne in Pontus, lately come from Italie, and his wife Priscilla (because that Claudius had commanded all Iewes to depart from Rome) and he came vnto them.
Et y ayant trouvé un Juif, nommé Aquile, originaire du pays du Pont, qui un peu auparavant était venu d'Italie, avec Priscille sa femme, parce que Claude avait commandé que tous les Juifs sortissent de Rome, il s'adressa à eux.
3 And because hee was of the same crafte, he abode with them and wrought (for their crafte was to make tentes.)
Et parce qu'il était de même métier, il demeura avec eux, et il travaillait. Or leur métier était de faire des tentes.
4 And he disputed in the Synagogue euery Sabbath day, and exhorted the Iewes, and the Grecians.
Et chaque Sabbat il disputait dans la Synagogue, et persuadait tant les Juifs que les Grecs.
5 Now when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul, forced in spirit, testified to the Iewes that Iesus was the Christ.
Et quand Silas et Timothée furent venus de Macédoine, Paul étant poussé par l'Esprit, témoignait aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ.
6 And when they resisted and blasphemed, he shooke his raiment, and saide vnto them, Your blood be vpon your owne head: I am cleane: from henceforth will I goe vnto the Gentiles.
Et comme ils le contredisaient, et qu'ils blasphémaient, il secoua ses vêtements, et leur dit: que votre sang soit sur votre tête, j'en suis net! je m'en vais dès à présent vers les Gentils.
7 So he departed thence, and entred into a certaine mans house, named Iustus, a worshipper of God, whose house ioyned hard to the Synagogue.
Et étant sorti de là, il entra dans la maison d'un homme appelé Juste, qui servait Dieu, et duquel la maison tenait à la Synagogue.
8 And Crispus the chiefe ruler of the Synagogue, beleeued in the Lord with all his housholde: and many of the Corinthians hearing it, beleeued and were baptized.
Mais Crispe, Principal de la Synagogue, crut au Seigneur avec toute sa maison; et plusieurs autres aussi des Corinthiens l'ayant ouï, crurent, et ils furent baptisés.
9 Then saide the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Feare not, but speake, and holde not thy peace.
Or le Seigneur dit la nuit à Paul dans une vision: ne crains point, mais parle, et ne te tais point;
10 For I am with thee, and no man shall lay handes on thee to hurt thee: for I haue much people in this citie.
Parce que je suis avec toi, et personne ne mettra les mains sur toi pour te faire du mal; et j'ai un grand peuple en cette ville.
11 So he continued there a yeere and six moneths, and taught ye worde of God among them.
Il demeura donc là un an et six mois, enseignant parmi eux la parole de Dieu.
12 Now when Gallio was Deputie of Achaia, the Iewes arose with one accorde against Paul, and brought him to the iudgement seate,
Mais du temps que Gallion était Proconsul d'Achaïe, les Juifs [tous] d'un commun accord s'élevèrent contre Paul, et l'amenèrent devant le siège judicial,
13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth me to worship God otherwise then the Lawe appointeth.
En disant: cet homme persuade les gens de servir Dieu contre la Loi.
14 And as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio saide vnto the Iewes, If it were a matter of wrong, or an euill deede, O ye Iewes, I would according to reason maintaine you.
Et comme Paul voulait ouvrir la bouche, Gallion dit aux Juifs: ô Juifs! s'il était question de quelque injustice, ou de quelque crime, je vous supporterais autant qu'il serait raisonnable;
15 But if it bee a question of woordes, and names, and of your Lawe, looke yee to it your selues: for I will be no iudge of those things.
Mais s'il est question de paroles et de mots, et de votre Loi, vous y mettrez ordre vous-mêmes: car je ne veux point être juge de ces choses.
16 And hee draue them from the iudgement seate.
Et il les fit retirer de devant le siège judicial.
17 Then tooke al the Grecians Sosthenes the chiefe ruler of the Synagogue, and beat him before the iudgement seat: but Gallio cared nothing for those things.
Alors tous les Grecs ayant saisi Sosthènes, qui était le Principal de la Synagogue, le battaient devant le siège judicial, sans que Gallion s'en mît en peine.
18 But when Paul had taried there yet a good while, hee tooke leaue of the brethren, and sailed into Syria (and with him Priscilla and Aquila) after that he had shorne his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vowe.
Et quand Paul eut demeuré là encore assez longtemps, il prit congé des frères, et navigua en Syrie, et avec lui Priscille et Aquile, après qu'il se fut fait raser la tête à Cenchrée, parce qu'il avait fait un vœu.
19 Then hee came to Ephesus, and left them there: but hee entred into the Synagogue and disputed with the Iewes.
Puis il arriva à Ephèse, et les y laissa; mais étant entré dans la Synagogue, il discourut avec les Juifs,
20 Who desired him to tarie a longer time with them: but he would not consent,
Qui le prièrent de demeurer encore plus longtemps avec eux; mais il ne voulut point le leur accorder.
21 But bade the farewel, saying, I must needes keepe this feast that commeth, in Hierusalem: but I will returne againe vnto you, if God will. So he sailed from Ephesus.
Et il prit congé d'eux, en [leur] disant: il me faut absolument faire la Fête prochaine à Jérusalem, mais je reviendrai encore vers vous, s'il plaît à Dieu. Ainsi il désancra d'Ephèse.
22 And when hee came downe to Cesarea, he went vp to Hierusalem: and when he had saluted the Church, he went downe vnto Antiochia.
Et quand il fut descendu à Césarée, il monta [à Jérusalem], et après avoir salué l'Eglise, il descendit à Antioche.
23 Nowe when he had taried there a while, he departed, and went thorowe the countrey of Galatia and Phrygia by order, strengthening all the disciples.
Et y ayant séjourné quelque temps, il s'en alla, et traversa tout de suite la contrée de Galatie et de Phrygie, fortifiant tous les disciples.
24 And a certaine Iewe named Apollos, borne at Alexandria, came to Ephesus, an eloquent man, and mightie in the Scriptures.
Mais il vint à Ephèse un Juif, nommé Apollos, Alexandrin de nation, homme éloquent, et savant dans les Ecritures;
25 The same was instructed in the way of the Lord, and hee spake feruently in the Spirite, and taught diligently the things of the Lord, and knew but the baptisme of Iohn onely.
Qui était en quelque manière instruit dans la voie du Seigneur; et comme il avait un grand zèle, il expliquait et enseignait fort exactement les choses qui concernent le Seigneur, quoiqu'il ne connût que le Baptême de Jean.
26 And he began to speake boldely in the Synagogue. Whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they tooke him vnto them, and expounded vnto him the way of God more perfectly.
Il commença donc à parler avec hardiesse dans la Synagogue; et quand Priscille et Aquile l'eurent entendu, ils le prirent avec eux, et lui expliquèrent plus particulièrement la voie de Dieu.
27 And when hee was minded to goe into Achaia, the brethren exhorting him, wrote to the disciples to receiue him: and after hee was come thither, he holpe them much which had beleeued through grace.
Et comme il voulut passer en Achaïe, les frères qui l'y avaient exhorté, écrivirent aux disciples de le recevoir, et quand il y fut arrivé, il profita beaucoup à ceux qui avaient cru par la grâce.
28 For mightily hee confuted publikely the Iewes, with great vehemencie, shewing by the Scriptures, that Iesus was that Christ.
Car il convainquait publiquement les Juifs avec une grande véhémence, démontrant par les Ecritures que Jésus était le Christ.
