Acts 16
1 Then came he to Derbe and to Lystra: and beholde, a certaine disciple was there named Timotheus, a womans sonne, which was a Iewesse and beleeued, but his father was a Grecian,
അദ്ദേഹം ദെർബ, ലുസ്ത്ര എന്നീ പട്ടണങ്ങളിൽ ചെന്നു. ലുസ്ത്രയിൽ തിമോത്തിയോസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു ശിഷ്യൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അയാളുടെ അമ്മ (യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിൽ വിശ്വാസം അർപ്പിച്ച) ഒരു യെഹൂദ വിശ്വാസിനിയും പിതാവ് ഗ്രീക്കുകാരനും ആയിരുന്നു.
2 Of whom the brethren which were at Lystra and Iconium, reported well.
ലുസ്ത്രയിലും ഇക്കോന്യയിലുമുള്ള സഹോദരങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽ അയാൾ നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യമുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു.
3 Therefore Paul would that he should go forth with him, and tooke and circumcised him, because of ye Iewes, which were in those quarters: for they knewe all, that his father was a Grecian.
അയാളുംകൂടി പോരണമെന്ന് പൗലോസ് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു. തിമോത്തിയോസിന്റെ പിതാവ് ഗ്രീക്കുകാരനെന്ന് ആ പ്രദേശത്തു താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന യെഹൂദർ എല്ലാവരും അറിഞ്ഞിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് പൗലോസ് അവരെ ഓർത്ത് അയാൾക്കു പരിച്ഛേദനം നടത്തി.
4 And as they went through the cities, they deliuered them the decrees to keepe, ordeined of the Apostles and Elders, which were at Hierusalem.
അവർ പട്ടണംതോറും സഞ്ചരിക്കുകയും വിശ്വാസികൾ അനുവർത്തിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ജെറുശലേമിലുള്ള അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാരും സഭാമുഖ്യന്മാരുംകൂടിയെടുത്ത തീരുമാനങ്ങൾ അവരെ ഏൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
5 And so were the Churches stablished in the faith, and encreased in number daily.
അങ്ങനെ സഭകൾ വിശ്വാസത്തിൽ ശക്തിപ്പെട്ടും എണ്ണത്തിൽ ദിനംപ്രതി വർധിച്ചുമിരുന്നു.
6 Nowe when they had gone throughout Phrygia, and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden of the holy Ghost to preache the worde in Asia.
പൗലോസും കൂടെയുള്ളവരുംകൂടി ഫ്രുഗ്യ, ഗലാത്യ എന്നീ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലൂടെ യാത്രചെയ്തു; ഏഷ്യാപ്രവിശ്യയിൽ വചനം പ്രസംഗിക്കരുതെന്നു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് അവരെ വിലക്കിയിരുന്നു.
7 Then came they to Mysia, and sought to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
മുസ്യാപ്രവിശ്യയുടെ അതിർത്തിയിലെത്തിയ അവർ ബിഥുന്യാപ്രവിശ്യ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി യാത്രചെയ്തു; എന്നാൽ, യേശുവിന്റെ ആത്മാവ് അവിടെ പ്രവേശിക്കാൻ അവരെ അനുവദിച്ചില്ല.
8 Therefore they passed through Mysia, and came downe to Troas,
അതുകൊണ്ട് അവർ മുസ്യ കടന്ന് ത്രോവാസിൽ എത്തി.
9 Where a vision appeared to Paul in the night. There stoode a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come into Macedonia, and helpe vs.
രാത്രിയിൽ, “മക്കദോന്യയിലേക്കു വന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ സഹായിക്കണമേ” എന്ന് ഒരു മക്കദോന്യക്കാരൻ നിന്നു യാചിക്കുന്നതായി പൗലോസിന് ഒരു ദർശനമുണ്ടായി.
10 And after he had seene the vision, immediatly we prepared to goe into Macedonia, being assured that the Lord had called vs to preache the Gospel vnto them.
ദർശനത്തെത്തുടർന്ന്, മക്കദോന്യരോടു സുവിശേഷം പ്രസംഗിക്കാൻ ദൈവം ഞങ്ങളെ വിളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ബോധ്യമായി; അവിടേക്കു യാത്രതിരിക്കാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ ഉടനെ ഒരുങ്ങി.
11 Then went we forth from Troas, and with a straight course came to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis,
ഞങ്ങൾ ത്രോവാസിൽനിന്ന് കപ്പലിൽ യാത്രചെയ്ത് നേരേ സമൊത്രെസ് ദ്വീപിലേക്കും പിറ്റേന്നാൾ നവപൊലിയിലേക്കും പോയി.
12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chiefe citie in ye partes of Macedonia, and whose inhabitants came from Rome to dwell there, and we were in that citie abiding certaine dayes.
അവിടെനിന്നു ഫിലിപ്പിയയിലേക്ക് യാത്രചെയ്തു. അത് ഒരു റോമൻ കോളനിയും മക്കദോന്യപ്രവിശ്യയിലെ ഒരു പ്രമുഖ നഗരവും ആയിരുന്നു. അവിടെ ഞങ്ങൾ കുറെനാൾ താമസിച്ചു.
13 And on the Sabbath day, we went out of the citie, besides a Riuer, where they were wont to pray: and we sate downe, and spake vnto the women, which were come together.
ശബ്ബത്തുദിവസത്തിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നഗരകവാടത്തിനു പുറത്ത് പുഴവക്കത്ത് ചെന്നു. അവിടെ പ്രാർഥിക്കാൻ ഒരു സ്ഥലം കണ്ടെത്താമെന്നു ഞങ്ങൾ കരുതി. ഞങ്ങൾ അവിടെ ഇരുന്ന് പുഴവക്കത്തു കൂടിവന്ന സ്ത്രീകളോടു സംസാരിച്ചു.
14 And a certaine woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the citie of the Thyatirians, which worshipped God, heard vs: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended vnto the things, which Paul spake.
കേട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നവരിൽ ലുദിയാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. തുയഥൈരാപട്ടണക്കാരിയായ അവൾ ഊതനിറമുള്ള പട്ടുവസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ വിൽക്കുന്നവളും ദൈവഭക്തയുമായിരുന്നു. പൗലോസിന്റെ സന്ദേശം സ്വീകരിക്കാനായി കർത്താവ് അവളുടെ ഹൃദയം തുറന്നു.
15 And when she was baptized, and her houshold, she besought vs, saying, If ye haue iudged me to be faithfull to ye Lord, come into mine house, and abide there: and she constrained vs.
അവളും കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളും സ്നാനമേറ്റു. തുടർന്ന് ഞങ്ങളെ അവളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു ക്ഷണിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്, “നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ കർത്താവിൽ വിശ്വസ്തയെന്നു കരുതുന്നെങ്കിൽ വന്ന് എന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ താമസിക്കണം” എന്ന് ഞങ്ങളോട് നിർബന്ധപൂർവം അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
16 And it came to passe that as we went to prayer, a certaine maide hauing a spirit of diuination, mette vs, which gate her masters much vantage with diuining.
ഒരിക്കൽ ഞങ്ങൾ പ്രാർഥനാസ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകുമ്പോൾ ഒരു അടിമപ്പെൺകുട്ടിയെ കണ്ടു. അവളെ ഒരു ദുരാത്മാവ് ബാധിച്ചിരുന്നു; അതിന്റെ സഹായത്താൽ ഭാവി പ്രവചിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവൾ അവളുടെ യജമാനന്മാർക്കു ധാരാളം പണം സമ്പാദിച്ചുകൊടുക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
17 She followed Paul and vs, and cryed, saying, These men are the seruants of the most high God, which shewe vnto you the way of saluation.
ഈ പെൺകുട്ടി പൗലോസിനെയും ഞങ്ങളെല്ലാവരെയും പിൻതുടരുകയും “ഈ മനുഷ്യർ പരമോന്നതനായ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാസന്മാരാണ്, രക്ഷപ്രാപിക്കാനുള്ള വഴി ഇവർ നിങ്ങൾക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതരുന്നു,” എന്നിങ്ങനെ വിളിച്ചുപറയുകയും ചെയ്തു.
18 And this did she many dayes: but Paul being grieued, turned about, and said to the spirit, I commaund thee in the Name of Iesus Christ, that thou come out of her. And he came out the same houre.
അവൾ ഇക്കാര്യം കുറെനാൾ തുടർന്നു. ഒടുവിൽ, ശല്യം സഹിക്കവയ്യാതെ പൗലോസ് അവളുടെനേർക്കു തിരിഞ്ഞ്, അവളിൽ ആവസിച്ചിരുന്ന ആത്മാവിനോട്, “ഇവളിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തുപോകാൻ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ ഞാൻ നിന്നോടു കൽപ്പിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. തൽക്ഷണം ആ ആത്മാവ് അവളെ വിട്ടുപോയി.
19 Nowe when her masters sawe that the hope of their gaine was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drewe them into the market place vnto the Magistrates,
തങ്ങളുടെ ധനാഗമമാർഗം നഷ്ടമായി എന്നു മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ ആ അടിമപ്പെൺകുട്ടിയുടെ യജമാനന്മാർ പൗലോസിനെയും ശീലാസിനെയും പിടികൂടി; അധികാരികളുടെമുമ്പിൽ നിർത്തേണ്ടതിനു ചന്തസ്ഥലത്തേക്കു വലിച്ചിഴച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.
20 And brought them to the gouernours, saying, These men which are Iewes, trouble our citie,
അവരെ ന്യായാധിപന്മാരുടെമുമ്പിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന്, “ഈ മനുഷ്യർ യെഹൂദന്മാരാണ്;
21 And preache ordinances, which are not lawfull for vs to receiue, neither to obserue, seeing we are Romanes.
റോമാക്കാരായ നമുക്ക് അംഗീകരിക്കാനോ ആചരിക്കാനോ നിയമം അനുവദിക്കാത്ത സമ്പ്രദായങ്ങൾ പ്രചരിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഇവർ നഗരത്തിൽ കലക്കമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
22 The people also rose vp together against them, and the gouernours rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with roddes.
പൗലോസിനും ശീലാസിനും നേരേയുണ്ടായ അക്രമത്തിൽ പുരുഷാരവും കൂട്ടുചേർന്നു. അവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിഞ്ഞ് അവരെ കോലുകൊണ്ട് അടിക്കാൻ ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ കൽപ്പന നൽകി.
23 And when they had beaten them sore, they cast them into prison, commaunding the Iayler to keepe them surely.
അങ്ങനെ അവരെ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു നിഷ്ഠുരമായി അടിപ്പിച്ചശേഷം കാരാഗൃഹത്തിലടയ്ക്കുകയും ജയിലധികാരിയോട് അവരെ ഭദ്രമായി സൂക്ഷിക്കാൻ നിർദേശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
24 Who hauing receiued such commandement, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feete fast in the stockes.
ഉത്തരവു ലഭിച്ചതനുസരിച്ച്, അയാൾ അവരെ കാരാഗൃഹത്തിന്റെ ഉള്ളറയിലാക്കി അവരുടെ കാൽ ആമത്തിലിട്ടു ബന്ധിച്ചു.
25 Nowe at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sung Psalmes vnto God: and the prisoners heard them.
അർധരാത്രിയോടെ പൗലോസും ശീലാസും പ്രാർഥിക്കുകയും ദൈവത്തിനു സ്തുതിഗീതങ്ങൾ ആലപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. തടവുകാർ അത് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundation of the prison was shaken: and by and by all the doores opened, and euery mans bands were loosed.
പെട്ടെന്ന്, ശക്തമായൊരു ഭൂകമ്പമുണ്ടായി. കാരാഗൃഹത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ കുലുങ്ങി. ഉടൻതന്നെ, കാരാഗൃഹവാതിലുകൾ മലർക്കെ തുറന്നു. എല്ലാവരുടെയും ചങ്ങലകൾ അഴിഞ്ഞു.
27 Then the keeper of the prison waked out of his sleepe, and when he sawe the prison doores open, he drewe out his sword and would haue killed himselfe, supposing the prisoners had bin fled.
ജയിലധികാരി ഉണർന്നു; വാതിലുകൾ തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്നതുകണ്ട്, തടവുകാർ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു എന്നു വിചാരിച്ച് വാൾ ഊരി തന്നെത്താൻ കൊല്ലാൻ ഭാവിച്ചു.
28 But Paul cryed with a loude voyce, saying, Doe thy selfe no harme: for we are all here.
അപ്പോൾ പൗലോസ്, “താങ്കൾ ഒരു ദോഷവും ചെയ്യരുത്, ഞങ്ങളെല്ലാവരും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്” എന്നു വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു.
29 Then he called for a light, and leaped in, and came trembling, and fell downe before Paul and Silas,
അയാൾ, വിളക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു; അകത്തേക്ക് ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് വിറച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പൗലോസിന്റെയും ശീലാസിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ വീണു.
30 And brought them out, and said, Syrs, what must I doe to be saued?
അവരെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ട്, “യജമാനന്മാരേ, രക്ഷപ്രാപിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ എന്തു ചെയ്യണം?” എന്ന് അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.
31 And they saide, Beleeue in the Lord Iesus Christ, and thou shalt be saued, and thine houshold.
അതിന് അവർ, “കർത്താവായ യേശുവിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുക, എന്നാൽ നീ രക്ഷപ്രാപിക്കും—നീമാത്രമല്ല നിന്റെ കുടുംബവും” എന്ന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
32 And they preached vnto him the worde of the Lord, and to all that were in the house.
പിന്നീട് അവർ അയാളോടും അയാളുടെ കുടുംബത്തിലുള്ള എല്ലാവരോടും കർത്താവിന്റെ വചനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.
33 Afterwarde he tooke them the same houre of the night, and washed their stripes, and was baptized with all that belonged vnto him, straigthway.
രാത്രിയുടെ ആ സമയത്തുതന്നെ അയാൾ പൗലോസിനെയും ശീലാസിനെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി അവരുടെ മുറിവുകൾ കഴുകി. എത്രയുംവേഗം അയാളും കുടുംബത്തിലുള്ള എല്ലാവരും സ്നാനമേറ്റു.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meate before them, and reioyced that he with all his houshold beleeued in God.
ജയിലധികാരി അവരെ തന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് അവർക്കു സദ്യയൊരുക്കി. ദൈവത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞതിൽ, അയാൾ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങൾ എല്ലാവരോടുംചേർന്ന് ആനന്ദിച്ചു.
35 And when it was day, the gouernours sent the sergeants, saying, Let those men goe.
നേരം പുലർന്നപ്പോൾ, ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ കാരാഗൃഹപ്രമാണിയുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് സേവകരെ അയച്ചു, “ആ മനുഷ്യരെ വിട്ടയച്ചേക്കുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
36 Then the keeper of the prison tolde these woordes vnto Paul, saying, The gouerness haue sent to loose you: nowe therefore get you hence, and goe in peace.
അയാൾ പൗലോസിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു, “താങ്കളെയും ശീലാസിനെയും ജയിൽമോചിതരാക്കാൻ ന്യായാധിപന്മാർ കൽപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങൾക്കു പോകാൻ അനുവാദം ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ സമാധാനത്തോടെ പോകുക.”
37 Then sayde Paul vnto them, After that they haue beaten vs openly vncodemned, which are Romanes, they haue cast vs into prison, and nowe would they put vs out priuily? nay verely: but let them come and bring vs out.
“റോമൻ പൗരന്മാരായ ഞങ്ങളെ വിസ്തരിക്കാതെ അവർ പരസ്യമായി അടിപ്പിക്കുകയും തടവിലാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ, രഹസ്യമായി ഞങ്ങളെ പറഞ്ഞയയ്ക്കുന്നോ? അങ്ങനെയല്ല; അവർതന്നെ വന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുപോകട്ടെ,” എന്നായിരുന്നു പൗലോസ് സേവകരോട് പറഞ്ഞത്.
38 And the sergeants tolde these woordes vnto the gouernours, who feared whe they heard that they were Romanes.
സേവകർ ഈ കാര്യം ന്യായാധിപന്മാരെ അറിയിച്ചു; പൗലോസും ശീലാസും റോമൻ പൗരന്മാരെന്നു കേട്ടിട്ട് അവർ സംഭ്രമിച്ചു.
39 Then came they and praied them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the citie.
അവർ വന്ന് അവരെ സമാധാനിപ്പിച്ച് കാരാഗൃഹത്തിനു പുറത്തേക്ക് ആനയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്, നഗരം വിട്ടുപോകണമെന്ന് അവരോടപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
40 And they went out of the prison, and entred into the house of Lydia: and when they had seene the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
കാരാഗൃഹത്തിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തു വന്ന പൗലോസും ശീലാസും ലുദിയായുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി. അവിടെ അവർ സഹോദരങ്ങളെ കണ്ട് അവരെ ധൈര്യപ്പെടുത്തിയശേഷം മുന്നോട്ടു യാത്രയായി.
