Acts 13
1 There were also in the Church that was at Antiochia, certaine Prophets and teachers, as Barnabas, and Simeon called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen (which had bin brought vp with Herod the Tetrarche) and Saul.
Il y avait dans l’Église d’Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs, savoir, Barnabé, Siméon, appelé Niger, Lucius de Cyrène, Manahen, qui avait été élevé avec Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
2 Nowe as they ministred to the Lord, and fasted, the holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul, for the worke whereunto I haue called them.
Comme ils vaquaient au service du Seigneur et qu’ils jeûnaient, l’Esprit-Saint leur dit: « Séparez-moi Saul et Barnabé pour l’œuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés. »
3 Then fasted they and prayed, and layde their hands on them, and let them goe.
Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les laissèrent partir.
4 And they, after they were sent foorth of the holy Ghost, came downe vnto Seleucia, and from thence they sayled to Cyprus.
Envoyés donc par le Saint-Esprit, Saul et Barnabé se rendirent à Séleucie, d’où ils firent voile pour l’île de Chypre.
5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the worde of God in the Synagogues of the Iewes: and they had also Iohn to their minister.
Arrivés à Salamine, ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Ils avaient avec eux Jean pour les aider dans leur ministère.
6 So when they had gone throughout the yle vnto Paphus, they found a certaine sorcerer, a false prophet, being a Iewe, named Bariesus,
Ayant parcouru toute l’île jusqu’à Paphos, ils trouvèrent un certain magicien, faux prophète juif, nommé Barjésus,
7 Which was with the Deputie Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. He called vnto him Barnabas and Saul, and desired to heare the woorde of God.
qui vivait auprès du proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme sage. Ce dernier, ayant fait appeler Barnabé et Saul, manifesta le désir d’entendre la parole de Dieu.
8 But Elymas, ye sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstoode them, and sought to turne away the Deputie from the faith.
Mais Elymas, le magicien — car telle est la signification de son nom — leur faisait opposition, cherchant à détourner de la foi le proconsul.
9 Then Saul (which also is called Paul) being full of the holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
Alors Saul, appelé aussi Paul, rempli du Saint-Esprit, fixant son regard sur le magicien,
10 And sayde, O full of all subtiltie and all mischiefe, the childe of the deuill, and enemie of all righteousnesse, wilt thou not cease to peruert the straight waies of the Lord?
lui dit: « Homme plein de toute sorte de ruses et de fourberies, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, ne cesseras-tu pas de pervertir les voies droite du Seigneur?
11 Nowe therefore behold, the hand of the Lord is vpon thee, and thou shalt be blinde, and not see the sunne for a season. And immediately there fel on him a mist and a darknes; and he went about, seeking some to leade him by the hand.
Maintenant voici que la main de Dieu est sur toi; tu seras aveugle, privé pour un temps de la vue du soleil. « Aussitôt d’épaisses ténèbres tombèrent sur lui, et il cherchait, en se tournant de tous côtés, quelqu’un qui lui donnât la main.
12 Then the Deputie when he sawe what was done, beleeued, and was astonied at the doctrine of the Lord.
À la vue de ce prodige, le proconsul crut, vivement frappé de la doctrine du Seigneur.
13 Nowe when Paul and they that were with him were departed by shippe from Paphus, they came to Perga a citie of Pamphylia: then Iohn departed from them, and returned to Hierusalem.
Paul et ses compagnons, ayant fait voile de Paphos, se rendirent à Perge en Pamphylie; mais Jean les quitta et s’en retourna à Jérusalem.
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antiochia a citie of Pisidia, and went into the Synagogue on ye Sabbath day, and sate downe.
Eux, poussant au delà de Perge, se rendirent à Antioche de Pisidie, et étant entrés dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat, ils s’assirent.
15 And after the lecture of the Law and Prophets, the rulers of ye Synagogue sent vnto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye haue any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
Après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue leur envoyèrent dire: « Frères, si vous avez quelque exhortation à adresser au peuple, parlez. »
16 Then Paul stoode vp and beckened with the hand, and sayde, Men of Israel, and yee that feare God, hearken.
Paul se leva, et, ayant fait signe de la main, il dit: « Enfants d’Israël, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez.
17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt in the land of Egypt, and with an high arme brought them out thereof.
Le Dieu de ce peuple d’Israël a choisi nos pères. Il glorifia ce peuple pendant son séjour en Égypte, et l’en fit sortir par son bras puissant.
18 And about the time of fourtie yeeres, suffered he their maners in the wildernesse.
Durant près de quarante ans, il en prit soin dans le désert.
19 And he destroied seuen nations in the land of Chanaan, and deuided their lad to them by lot.
Puis, ayant détruit sept nations au pays de Chanaan, il le mit en possession de leur territoire.
20 Then afterward he gaue vnto them Iudges about foure hundreth and fiftie yeeres, vnto the time of Samuel the Prophet.
Après cela, durant quatre cent cinquante ans environ, il lui donna des juges jusqu’au prophète Samuel.
21 So after that, they desired a King, and God gaue vnto them Saul, the sonne of Cis, a man of ye tribe of Beniamin, by the space of fourty yeres.
Alors ils demandèrent un roi; et Dieu leur donna, pendant quarante ans, Saül, fils de Cis, de la tribu de Benjamin.
22 And after he had taken him away, he raised vp Dauid to be their King, of whom he witnessed, saying, I haue found Dauid the sonne of Iesse, a man after mine owne heart, which will doe all things that I will.
Puis, l’ayant rejeté, il leur suscita pour roi David, auquel il a rendu ce témoignage: J’ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, homme selon mon cœur, qui accomplira toutes mes volontés. —
23 Of this mans seede hath God according to his promise raised vp to Israel, ye Sauiour Iesus:
C’est de sa postérité que Dieu, selon sa promesse, a fait sortir pour Israël un Sauveur, Jésus.
24 When Iohn had first preached before his coming the baptisme of repentance to all the people of Israel.
Avant sa venue, Jean avait prêché un baptême de pénitence à tout le peuple d’Israël;
25 And when Iohn had fulfilled his course, he saide, Whom ye thinke that I am, I am not he: but beholde, there commeth one after me, whose shooe of his feete I am not worthy to loose.
et arrivé au terme de sa course, il disait: Je ne suis pas celui que vous pensez; mais voici qu’après moi vient celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la chaussure.
26 Yee men and brethren, children of the generation of Abraham, and whosoeuer among you feareth God, to you is the woorde of this saluation sent.
Mes frères, fils de la race d’Abraham, et vous qui craignez Dieu, c’est à vous que cette parole de salut a été envoyée.
27 For the inhabitants of Hierusalem, and their rulers, because they knewe him not, nor yet the woordes of the Prophets, which are read euery Sabbath day, they haue fulfilled them in condemning him.
Car les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs magistrats ayant méconnu Jésus et les oracles des prophètes qui se lisent chaque sabbat, les ont accompli par leur jugement,
28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate to kill him.
et sans avoir rien trouvé en lui qui méritât la mort, ils ont demandé à Pilate de le faire mourir.
29 And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they tooke him downe from the tree, and put him in a sepulchre.
Et quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui est écrit de lui, ils le descendirent de la croix et le déposèrent dans un sépulcre.
30 But God raised him vp from the dead.
Mais Dieu l’a ressuscité des morts; et pendant plusieurs jours de suite il s’est montré à ceux
31 And hee was seene many dayes of them, which came vp with him from Galile to Hierusalem, which are his witnesses vnto the people.
qui étaient montés avec lui de la Galilée à Jérusalem, et qui sont maintenant ses témoins auprès du peuple.
32 And we declare vnto you, that touching the promise made vnto the fathers,
Nous aussi, nous vous annonçons que la promesse faite à nos pères,
33 God hath fulfilled it vnto vs their children, in that he raised vp Iesus, euen as it is written in the seconde Psalme, Thou art my Sonne: this day haue I begotten thee.
Dieu l’a accomplie pour nous, leurs enfants, en ressuscitant Jésus, selon ce qui est écrit dans le Psaume deuxième: Tu es mon Fils, je t’ai engendré aujourd’hui.
34 Nowe as concerning that he raised him vp from the dead, no more to returne to corruption, he hath said thus, I wil giue you the holy things of Dauid, which are faithfull.
Que Dieu l’ait ressuscité des morts de telle sorte qu’il ne retournera pas à la corruption, c’est ce qu’il a déclaré en disant: Je vous donnerai les faveurs divines promises à David, faveurs qui sont assurées.
35 Wherefore hee sayeth also in another place, Thou wilt not suffer thine Holy one to see corruption.
— C’est pourquoi il dit encore ailleurs: Tu ne permettras pas que ton Saint voie la corruption. —
36 Howbeit, Dauid after hee had serued his time by the counsell of God, hee slept, and was laid with his fathers, and sawe corruption.
Or David, après avoir, pendant qu’il vivait, accompli les desseins de Dieu, s’est endormi, et il a été réuni à ses pères, et il a vu la corruption.
37 But he whom God raised vp, sawe no corruption.
Mais celui que Dieu a ressuscité n’a pas vu la corruption.
38 Be it knowen vnto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached vnto you the forgiuenesse of sinnes.
Sachez-le donc, mes frères: c’est par lui que le pardon des péchés vous est annoncé; et de toutes les souillures, dont vous n’avez pu être justifiés par la loi de Moïse,
39 And from al things, from which ye could not be iustified by the Law of Moses, by him euery one that beleeueth, is iustified.
quiconque croit en est justifié par lui.
40 Beware therefore lest that come vpon you, which is spoken of in the Prophets,
Prenez donc garde qu’il ne vous arrive ce qui est dit dans les Prophètes:
41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and vanish away: for I woorke a woorke in your daies, a woorke which yee shall not beleeue, if a man would declare it you.
« Voyez, hommes dédaigneux, soyez étonnés et disparaissez; car je vais faire en vos jours une œuvre, une œuvre que vous ne croiriez pas si on vous la racontait. »
42 And when they were come out of the Synagogue of the Iewes, the Gentiles besought, that they woulde preach these woordes to them the next Sabbath day.
Lorsqu’ils sortirent, on les pria de parler sur le même sujet au sabbat suivant.
43 Nowe when the congregation was dissolued, many of the Iewes and Proselytes that feared God, followed Paul and Barnabas, which spake to them, and exhorted them to continue in the grace of God.
Et à l’issue de l’assemblée, beaucoup de Juifs et de pieux prosélytes suivirent Paul et Barnabé, et ceux-ci, s’entretenant avec eux, les exhortèrent à persévérer dans la grâce de Dieu.
44 And ye next Sabbath day came almost the whole citie together, to heare the worde of God.
Le sabbat suivant, la ville presque toute entière se rassembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45 But when the Iewes saw the people, they were full of enuie, and spake against those things, which were spoken of Paul, contrarying them, and railing on them.
Les Juifs, voyant tout ce concours, furent remplis de jalousie, et, en blasphémant, ils contredirent tout ce que disait Paul.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas spake boldly, and sayde, It was necessarie that the woorde of God shoulde first haue beene spoken vnto you: but seeing yee put it from you, and iudge your selues vnworthie of euerlasting life, loe, we turne to the Gentiles. (aiōnios g166)
Alors Paul et Barnabé dirent avec assurance: « C’est à vous les premiers que la parole de Dieu devait être annoncée; mais, puisque vous la repoussez, et que vous-mêmes vous vous jugez indignes de la vie éternelle, voici que nous nous tournons vers les Gentils. (aiōnios g166)
47 For so hath the Lord commanded vs, saying, I haue made thee a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be the saluation vnto the end of the world.
Car le Seigneur nous l’a ainsi ordonné: Je t’ai établi pour être la lumière des nations, pour porter le salut jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre. »
48 And when the Gentiles heard it, they were glad, and glorified the woorde of the Lord: and as many as were ordeined vnto eternall life, beleeued. (aiōnios g166)
En entendant ces paroles, les Gentils se réjouirent, et ils glorifiaient la parole du Seigneur; et tous ceux qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle devinrent croyants. (aiōnios g166)
49 Thus the worde of the Lord was published throughout the whole countrey.
Et la parole du Seigneur se répandait dans tout le pays.
50 But the Iewes stirred certaine deuoute and honourable women, and the chiefe men of the citie, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coastes.
Mais les Juifs, ayant excité les femmes prosélytes de la classe élevée et les principaux de la ville, soulevèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabé, et les chassèrent de leur territoire.
51 But they shooke off the dust of their feete against them, and came vnto Iconium.
Alors Paul et Barnabé secouèrent contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds et allèrent à Iconium.
52 And the disciples were filled with ioy, and with the holy Ghost.
Cependant les disciples étaient remplis de joie et de l’Esprit-Saint.
