2 Samuel 24
1 And the wrath of the Lord was againe kindled against Israel, and he moued Dauid against them, in that he saide, Goe, number Israel and Iudah.
Or la colère de l'Eternel s'embrasa encore contre Israël; parce que David fut incité contr'eux à dire: Va, dénombre Israël et Juda.
2 For the King said to Ioab the captaine of the hoste, which was with him, Goe speedily now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan euen to Beer-sheba, and nomber ye the people, that I may knowe the nomber of the people.
Le Roi donc dit à Joab, chef de l'armée, lequel il avait avec soi: Passe maintenant par toutes les Tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersébah, et dénombre le peuple, afin que j'en sache le nombre.
3 And Ioab saide vnto the King, The Lord thy God increase the people an hundreth folde more then they be, and that the eyes of my lorde the King may see it: but why doeth my lord the King desire this thing?
Mais Joab répondit au Roi: Que l'Eternel ton Dieu veuille augmenter ton peuple autant, et cent fois autant qu'il est maintenant; et que les yeux du Roi mon Seigneur le voient! mais pourquoi le Roi mon Seigneur prend-il plaisir à cela?
4 Notwithstanding the Kings worde preuailed against Ioab and against the captaines of the hoste: therefore Ioab and the captaines of the hoste went out from the presence of the King to nomber the people of Israel.
Néanmoins la parole du Roi l'emporta sur Joab, et sur les Chefs de l'armée; et Joab et les chefs de l'armée sortirent de la présence du Roi pour dénombrer le peuple, [savoir] Israël.
5 And they passed ouer Iorden, and pitched in Aroer at the right side of the citie that is in the middes of the valley of Gad and toward Iazer.
Ils passèrent donc le Jourdain, et se campèrent en Haroher, à main droite de la ville, qui est au milieu du torrent de Gad, et vers Jahzer.
6 Then they came to Gilead, and to Tahtim-hodshi, so they came to Dan Iaan, and so about to Zidon,
Et ils vinrent en Galaad, et dans la terre de ceux qui habitent au bas [pays] d'Hodsi, et vinrent à Dan-Jahan, et ensuite aux environs de Sidon.
7 And came to the fortresse of Tyrus and to all the cities of the Hiuites and of the Canaanites, and went towarde the South of Iudah, euen to Beer-sheba.
Et ils vinrent jusqu'à la forteresse de Tsor, et dans toutes les villes des Héviens, et des Cananéens, et sortirent vers le Midi de Juda à Beersébah.
8 So when they had gone about all the lande, they returned to Ierusalem at the ende of nine moneths and twentie dayes.
Ainsi ils traversèrent tout le pays, et revinrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.
9 And Ioab deliuered the nomber and summe of the people vnto the King: and there were in Israel eight hundreth thousande strong men that drewe swordes, and the men of Iudah were fiue hundreth thousand men.
Et Joab donna au Roi le rolle du dénombrement du peuple; et il y eut de ceux d'Israël huit cent mille hommes de guerre tirant l'épée, et de ceux de Juda cinq cent mille hommes.
10 Then Dauids heart smote him, after that he had numbred the people: and Dauid said vnto the Lord, I haue sinned exceedingly in that I haue done: therefore nowe, Lord, I beseech thee, take away the trespasse of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.
Alors David fut touché en son cœur, après qu'il eut fait ainsi dénombrer le peuple; et David dit à l'Eternel: J'ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela, mais, je te prie, ô Eternel! pardonne l'iniquité de ton serviteur; car j'ai agi très-follement.
11 And when Dauid was vp in the morning, the worde of the Lord came vnto the Prophet Gad Dauids Seer, saying,
Après cela David se leva dès le matin, et la parole de l'Eternel fut [adressée] à Gad le Prophète, qui était le Voyant de David, en disant:
12 Go, and say vnto Dauid, Thus saith ye Lord, I offer thee three thinges, chuse thee which of them I shall doe vnto thee.
Va, et dis à David: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: J'apporte trois choses contre toi; choisis l'une des trois, afin que je te la fasse.
13 So Gad came to Dauid, and shewed him, and said vnto him, Wilt thou that seuen yeeres famine come vpon thee in thy lande, or wilt thou flee three moneths before thine enemies, they following thee, or that there bee three dayes pestilence in thy land? nowe aduise thee, and see, what answere I shall giue to him that sent me.
Gad vint donc vers David, et lui fit entendre cela en disant: Que veux-tu qui t'arrive: ou sept ans de famine sur ton pays; ou que durant trois mois tu fuies devant tes ennemis, et qu'ils te poursuivent; ou que durant trois jours la mortalité soit en ton pays? Avises-y maintenant, et regarde ce que tu veux que je réponde à celui qui m'a envoyé.
14 And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a wonderfull strait: let vs fall nowe into the hand of the Lord, (for his mercies are great) and let mee not fall into the hand of man.
Et David répondit à Gad: Je suis dans une très-grande angoisse. Je te prie que nous tombions entre les mains de l'Eternel, car ses compassions sont en grand nombre; et que je ne tombe point entre les mains des hommes.
15 So the Lord sent a pestilece in Israel, from the morning euen to the time appointed: and there dyed of the people from Dan euen to Beer-sheba seuentie thousand men.
L'Eternel donc envoya la mortalité en Israël, depuis le matin jusqu'au temps de l'assignation; et il mourut du peuple depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersébah, soixante-dix mille hommes.
16 And when the Angel stretched out his hande vpon Ierusalem to destroy it, the Lord repented of the euil, and said to the Angel that destroyed the people, It is sufficient, holde nowe thine hand. And the Angel of the Lord was by the threshing place of Araunah the Iebusite.
Mais quand l'Ange eut étendu sa main sur Jérusalem pour la ravager, l'Eternel se repentit de ce mal-là et dit à l'Ange qui faisait le dégât parmi le peuple: C'est assez, retire à cette heure ta main. Or l'Ange de l'Eternel était auprès de l'aire d'Arauna Jébusien.
17 And Dauid spake vnto the Lord (when he sawe the Angel that smote the people) and saide, Behold, I haue sinned, yea, I haue done wickedly: but these sheepe, what haue they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against mee and against my fathers house.
Car David voyant l'Ange qui frappait le peuple, parla à l'Eternel, et dit: Voici, c'est moi qui ai péché, c'est moi qui ai commis l'iniquité, mais ces brebis qu'ont-elles fait? Je te prie que ta main soit contre moi, et contre la maison de mon père.
18 So Gad came the same day to Dauid, and said vnto him, Go vp, reare an altar vnto the Lord in the threshing floore of Araunah the Iebusite.
Et en ce jour-là Gad vint vers David, et lui dit: Monte, et dresse un autel à l'Eternel dans l'aire d'Arauna Jébusien.
19 And Dauid (according to the saying of Gad) went vp, as the Lord had commanded.
Et David monta selon la parole de Gad, ainsi que l'Eternel l'avait commandé.
20 And Araunah looked, and sawe the King and his seruants comming towarde him, and Araunah went out, and bowed himselfe before the King on his face to the ground,
Et Arauna regarda, et vit le Roi, et ses serviteurs qui venaient vers lui; et ainsi Arauna sortit, et se prosterna devant le Roi, le visage contre terre.
21 And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the King come to his seruant? Then Dauid answered, To bye the threshing floore of thee for to builde an altar vnto the Lord, that the plague may cease from the people.
Et Arauna dit: Pour quel sujet le Roi mon Seigneur vient-il vers son serviteur? Et David répondit: Pour acheter ton aire, et y bâtir un autel à l'Eternel, afin que cette plaie soit arrêtée de dessus le peuple.
22 Then Araunah saide vnto Dauid, Let my lord the King take and offer what seemeth him good in his eyes: beholde the oxen for the burnt offring, and charets, and the instruments of the oxen for wood.
Et Arauna dit à David: Que le Roi mon Seigneur prenne et offre ce qu'il lui plaira. Voilà des bœufs pour l'holocauste, et des chariots, et un attelage de bœufs au lieu de bois.
23 (All these things did Araunah as a King giue vnto the King: and Araunah saide vnto the King, The Lord thy God be fauourable vnto thee)
Arauna donna tout cela au Roi [comme] un Roi. Et Arauna dit au Roi: L'Eternel ton Dieu veuille t'avoir pour agréable!
24 Then the King saide vnto Araunah, Not so, but I will bye it of thee at a price, and will not offer burnt offring vnto ye Lord my God of that which doeth cost me nothing. So Dauid bought the threshing floore, and the oxen for fiftie shekels of siluer.
Et le Roi répondit à Arauna: Non, mais je l'achèterai de toi pour un certain prix, et je n'offrirai point à l'Eternel mon Dieu des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien. Ainsi David acheta l'aire, et il [acheta aussi] les bœufs cinquante sicles d'argent.
25 And Dauid built there an altar vnto the Lord, and offred burnt offrings and peace offrings, and the Lord was appeased toward ye lande, and the plague ceased from Israel.
Puis David bâtit là un autel à l'Eternel, et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérités; et l'Eternel fut apaisé envers le pays, et la plaie fut arrêtée en Israël.
