1 These also be the last wordes of Dauid, Dauid the sonne of Ishai saith, euen the man who was set vp on hie, the Anointed of the God of Iacob, and the sweete singer of Israel saith,

Mais voici les dernières paroles de David. David, fils d’Isaï, a parlé; l’homme institué le christ du Dieu de Jacob, l’excellent psalmiste d’Israël, a dit:

2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his worde was in my tongue.

L’Esprit du Seigneur s’est fait entendre par moi, et sa parole par ma langue.

3 The God of Israel spake to me, ye strength of Israel saide, Thou shalt beare rule ouer men, being iust, and ruling in the feare of God.

Le Dieu d’Israël m’a dit: le Fort d’Israël a parlé: le dominateur des hommes, le juste dominateur dans la crainte de Dieu sera

4 Euen as the morning light when the sunne riseth, the morning, I say, without cloudes, so shall mine house be, and not as the grasse of the earth is by the bright raine.

Comme la lumière de l’aurore, qui, au soleil levant, le matin, brille sans nuages, et comme l’herbe qui germe de la terre par les pluies.

5 For so shall not mine house be with God: for he hath made with me an euerlasting couenant, perfite in all pointes, and sure: therefore all mine health and whole desire is, that he will not make it growe so.

Et ma maison n’était pas si grande devant Dieu, pour qu’il fit avec moi un pacte éternel, ferme en toutes choses et assuré; car ce pacte est tout mon salut et toute ma volonté; et rien n’en provient qui ne porte ses fruits.

6 But the wicked shalbe euery one as thornes thrust away, because they can not be taken with handes.

Mais les prévaricateurs seront extirpés tous comme des épines que l’on n’arrache pas avec les mains.

7 But the man that shall touch them, must be defensed with yron, or with the shaft of a speare: and they shall be burnt with fire in the same place.

Et si quelqu’un veut les toucher, il s’arme de fer, et d’un bois de lance, et brûlées par le feu, elles sont consumées jusqu’à néant.

8 These be the names of the mightie men whome Dauid had. He that sate in the seate of wisedome, being chiefe of the princes, was Adino of Ezni, he slewe eight hundreth at one time.

Voici le nom des braves de David. Celui qui était assis dans la chaire, le plus sage, le premier entre les trois; c’est lui qui, comme le petit ver le plus tendre du bois, tua huit cents hommes en une seule fois.

9 And after him was Eleazar the sonne of Dodo, the sonne of Ahohi, one of the three worthies with Dauid, when they defied the Philistims gathered there to battel, when the men of Israel were gone vp.

Après lui, Éléazar, Ahohite, fils de son oncle paternel, était entre les trois braves qui étaient avec David, lorsqu’ils insultèrent les Philistins, et qu’ils s’assemblèrent en ce lieu pour le combat.

10 He arose and smote the Philistims vntill his hande was wearie, and his hande claue vnto the sworde: and the Lord gaue great victorie the same day, and the people returned after him onely to spoyle.

Et lorsque les hommes d’Israël eurent monté, lui se présenta, et battit les Philistins, jusqu’à ce que sa main se lassât et demeurât attachée à son glaive; et le Seigneur donna une grande victoire à Israël en ce jour-là, et le peuple, qui avait fui, retourna pour enlever les dépouilles des morts.

11 After him was Shammah the sonne of Age the Hararite: for the Philistims assembled at a towne, where was a piece of a fielde full of lentils, and the people fled from the Philistims.

Et après lui venait Semma, fils d’Agé, d’Arari. Et les Philistins s’assemblèrent au poste; car il y avait là un champ plein de lentilles. Et lorsque le peuple se fut enfui devant les Philistins,

12 But he stoode in the middes of the fielde, and defended it, and slewe the Philistims: so the Lord gaue great victorie.

Semma se tint au milieu du champ, le défendit et battit les Philistins; et le Seigneur accorda une grande victoire.

13 Afterward three of the thirtie captaines went downe, and came to Dauid in the haruest time vnto the caue of Adullam, and the hoste of the Philistims pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

Et déjà auparavant étaient descendus les trois qui étaient les premiers entre les trente, et ils étaient venus au temps de la moisson vers David, dans la caverne d’Odollam; mais le camp des Philistins était placé dans la Vallée des Géants.

14 And Dauid was then in an holde, and the garison of ye Philistims was then in Beth-lehem.

Et David était dans la forteresse; mais l’armée des Philistins était alors à Bethléhem.

15 And Dauid longed, and said, Oh, that one would giue me to drinke of the water of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate.

David donc fit un souhait, et dit: Oh! si quelqu’un me donnait à boire de l’eau de la citerne qui est à Bethléhem, près de la porte:

16 The the three mightie brake into the host of the Philistims, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem that was by the gate, and tooke and brought it to Dauid, who woulde not drinke thereof, but powred it for an offring vnto ye Lord,

Les trois braves passèrent donc à travers le camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l’eau dans la citerne de Bethléhem qui était près de la porte, et l’apportèrent à David; et David n’en voulut pas boire, mais il l’offrit en libations au Seigneur,

17 And said, O Lord, be it farre from me, that I should doe this. Is not this the blood of the men that went in ieopardie of their liues? therefore he woulde not drinke it. These things did these three mightie men.

Disant: Que le Seigneur me soit propice, pour que je ne fasse pas cela: boirai-je le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés la chercher, et le péril de leurs âmes? Il ne voulut donc pas boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois hommes très vigoureux.

18 And Abishai the brother of Ioab, the sonne of Zeruiah, was chiefe among the three, and he lifted vp his speare against three hundreth, and slewe them, and he had the name among the three.

Abisaï aussi, frère de Joab, fils de Sarvia, était le premier de trois autres: c’est lui qui leva sa lance contre trois cents, qu’il tua: il était renommé parmi ces trois,

19 For he was most excellent of the three, and was their captaine, but he attained not vnto the first three.

Et le plus noble d’entre ces trois, et leur chef; mais il n’atteignait pas les premiers.

20 And Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada the sonne of a valiant man, which had done many actes, and was of Kabzeel, slewe two strong men of Moab: he went downe also, and slewe a lyon in the middes of a pit in the time of snowe.

Ensuite Banaïas de Cabséel, fils de Joïada, homme très vaillant, et aux grands exploits; c’est lui qui tua les deux lions de Moab, et lui qui descendit et tua le lion au milieu de la citerne, dans les jours de la neige.

21 And he slewe an Egyptian a man of great stature, and the Egyptian had a speare in his hande: but he went downe to him with a staffe, and plucked the speare out of the Egyptians hand, and slewe him with his owne speare.

C’est lui qui tua l’Egyptien: homme digne d’être en spectacle et ayant en main une lance; c’est pourquoi, lorsqu’il fut descendu vers lui avec sa verge, il arracha de force la lance de la main de l’Egyptien, et le tua de sa lance.

22 These things did Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and had the name among the three worthies.

Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada.

23 He was honourable among thirtie, but he atteined not to the first three: and Dauid made him of his counsell.

Et il était renommé entre les trois vaillants les plus nobles entre les trente; cependant il n’atteignait pas les trois premiers; et David le fit son conseiller intime.

24 Asahel the brother of Ioab was one of the thirtie: Elhanan the sonne of Dodo of Beth-lehem:

Asaël, frère de Joab, était entre les trente; Eléhanan de Bethléhem, fils de l’oncle paternel d’Asaël;

25 Shammah the Harodite: Elika ye Harodite:

Semma de Harodi, Elica de Harodi,

26 Helez the Paltite: Ira the sonne of Ikkesh the Tekoite:

Hélès de Phalti, Hira, fils d’Accès de Thécua;

27 Abiezer the Anethothite: Mebunnai the Husathite:

Abiézer d’Anathoth, Mobonnaï de Husati,

28 Zalmon an Ahohite: Maharai the Netophathite:

Selmon, l’Ahohite, Maharaï, le Nétophathite;

29 Heleb the sonne of Baanah a Netophathite: Ittai the sonne of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Beniamin:

Héled, fils de Baana, lui aussi Nétophatite, Ithaï, fils de Ribaï de Gabaath des enfants de Benjamin;
