2 Samuel 2
1 After this, Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go vp into any of the cities of Iudah? And the Lord sayd vnto him, Goe vp. And Dauid sayd Whither shall I goe? Hee then answered, Vnto Hebron.
Après cela, David consulta le Seigneur, disant: Irai-je en l'une des villes de Juda? Et le Seigneur lui répondit: Va. Et David demanda: Où irai- je? A Hébron, reprit le Seigneur.
2 So Dauid went vp thither, and his two wiues also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
Et David partit pour Hébron, avec ses deux femmes Achinoam la Jezraélite et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal du Carmel,
3 And Dauid brought vp the men that were with him, euery man with his houshold, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
Et avec ses hommes, chacun emmenant sa famille; ainsi, ils habitèrent les villes d'Hébron.
4 Then the men of Iudah came, and there they anoynted Dauid King ouer the house of Iudah. And they tolde Dauid, saying, that the men of Iabesh Gilead buried Saul.
Alors, des hommes de la Judée vinrent, et ils sacrèrent David pour qu'il régnât sur la tribu de Juda; ces hommes lui apprirent que ceux de Jabès-Galaad avaient inhumé Saül.
5 And Dauid sent messengers vnto the men of Iabesh Gilead, and said vnto them, Blessed are ye of the Lord, that yee haue shewed such kindenes vnto your lord Saul, that you haue buried him.
Et David envoya des messagers aux chefs de Jabès-Galaad, et il leur dit: Bénis soyez-vous par le Seigneur, parce que vous avez été miséricordieux envers votre maître, envers Saül l'oint du Seigneur, et que vous l'avez inhumé, lui et son fils Jonathan.
6 Therefore now the Lord shewe mercie and trueth vnto you: and I will recompence you this benefite, because ye haue done this thing.
Que le Seigneur vous traite selon sa miséricorde et sa vérité; pour moi, j'en userai bien avec vous, parce que vous avez bien agi.
7 Therefore nowe let your handes be strong, and be you valiant: albeit your master Saul bee dead, yet neuerthelesse the house of Iudah hath anoynted me King ouer them.
Et maintenant que vos mains soient fortes; soyez vaillants vous-mêmes; car votre maître Saül n'est plus, et la maison de Juda m'a sacré, afin que je règne sur elle.
8 But Abner the sonne of Ner that was captaine of Sauls hoste, tooke Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and brought him to Mahanaim,
Mais, Abner, fils de Ner, général de Saül, prit Isboseth, fils de Saül, et il l'emmena du camp de Manaam,
9 And made him King ouer Gilead, and ouer the Ashurites, and ouer Izreel, and ouer Ephraim, and ouer Beniamin, and ouer al Israel.
Et il le fit reconnaître roi par la contrée de Galaad, par Thasiri, par Jezraël, par Ephrahn, par Benjamin, par tout Israël.
10 Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne was fourtie yeere olde when he began to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned two yeere: but the house of Iudah followed Dauid.
Isboseth, fils de Saül, avait quarante ans lorsqu'il devint roi d'Israël; il régna deux ans, hormis sur la maison de Juda, qui obéissait à David.
11 (And the time which Dauid reigned in Hebron ouer the house of Iudah, was seuen yeere and sixe moneths)
Et David régna à Hébron sur la maison de Juda, sept ans et demi.
12 And Abner the sonne of Ner, and the seruantes of Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul went out of Mahanaim to Gibeon.
Cependant, Abner, fils de Ner, et les serviteurs d'Isboseth, fils de Saül, s'en allèrent de Manaam en Gabaon.
13 And Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and the seruants of Dauid went out and met one another by the poole of Gibeon: and they sate downe, the one on the one side of the poole, and the other on the otherside of the poole.
De son côté, Joab, fils de Sarvia, avec la troupe de David, sortit d'Hébron, et il arriva en même temps qu'eux vers la fontaine de Gabaon; ils campèrent les uns en deçà, les autres au delà de la fontaine.
14 Then Abner saide to Ioab, Let the yong men nowe arise, and play before vs. And Ioab said, Let them arise.
Et Abner dit à Joab: Que ces jeunes gens se lèvent et qu'ils viennent jouer devant nous; à quoi Joab répondit: Qu'ils se lèvent.
15 Then there arose and went ouer twelue of Beniamin by number, which perteined to Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and twelue of the seruants of Dauid.
Et douze des serviteurs d'Isboseth, fils de Saül, tous de la tribu de Benjamin, se portèrent à la rencontre de douze serviteurs de David.
16 And euery one caught his fellowe by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowes side, so they fell downe together: wherefore ye place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
Et chacun saisit d'une main la tête de celui qui lui faisait face, puis, de l'autre main, il lui enfonça dans le flanc son épée, et ils tombèrent tous en même temps. Et l'on appela ce lieu qui est en Gabaon, le Champ des Traîtres.
17 And the battel was exceeding sore that same day: for Abner and the men of Israel fell before the seruants of Dauid.
Ce jour-là, il y eut une terrible bataille; Abner et les hommes d'Israël échouèrent devant les serviteurs de David.
18 And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.
Il se trouvait là trois fils de Sarvia, Joab, Abessa et Asaël; or, Asaël avait les pieds légers comme un daim libre dans les champs.
19 And Asahel followed after Abner, and in going he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from Abner.
Et Asaël se lança à la poursuite d'Abner; il s'attacha à ses pas, sans s'écarter à droite ni à gauche.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, Yea.
Abner regardant derrière lui, s'écria: N'es-tu pas Asaël? l'autre reprit: Je le suis.
21 Then Abner said, Turne thee either to the right hande, or to the left, and take one of the yong men, and take thee his weapons: and Asahel would not depart from him.
Abner lui dit: Détourne-toi à droite ou à gauche, attaque l'un des jeunes serviteurs, et prends pour toi ses armes. Mais Asaël refusa de s'écarter ni à droite ni à guiche.
22 And Abner saide to Asahel, Depart from me: wherefore shoulde I smite thee to the grounde? howe then shoulde I be able to holde vp my face to Ioab thy brother?
Abner continua de lui parler, disant: Éloigne-toi donc de moi, de peur que d'un coup je ne t'étende à terre; comment alors oserais-je lever les yeux devant Joab?
23 And when he woulde not depart, Abner with the hinder ende of the speare smote him vnder the fift ryb, that the speare came out behind him: and he fell downe there, and dyed in his place. And as many as came to the place where Asahel fell downe and dyed, stoode still.
Où en veux-tu venir? Retourne vers Joab, ton frère. Mais il ne voulut pas s'éloigner, et Abner le frappa du bas de sa javeline au ventre, la pointe ressortit par les reins. Asaël tomba, et il mourut en s'affaissant sur lui-même; tous ceux qui arrivèrent au lieu où il était mort s'arrêtèrent autour de lui.
24 Ioab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sunne went downe, when they were come to the hill Ammah, that lieth before Giah, by the way of the wildernesse of Gibeon.
Et Joab et Abessa s'élancèrent à la poursuite d'Abner; le soleil se couchait alors; et ils allèrent jusqu'à la colline d'Amma, qui est en face d'Haï, où monte le chemin du désert de Gabaon.
25 And the children of Beniamin gathered them selues together after Abner, and were on an heape and stoode on the top of an hill.
Mais les fils de Benjamin, s'étant ralliés auprès de la troupe d'Abner, ne formaient plus qu'un seul corps; ils se rangèrent sur la crête d'une colline.
26 Then Abner called to Ioab, and said, Shall the sworde deuoure for euer? knowest thou not, that it will be bitternesse in the latter ende? howe long then shall it be, or thou bid the people returne from following their brethren?
Et Abner appela Joab, et il lui dit: Est-ce que l'épée dévorera sans relâche? Ne sais-tu pas qu'elle peut devenir amère à la fin? Qu'attends-tu donc pour ordonner aux tiens de ne plus poursuivre nos frères?
27 And Ioab sayde, As God liueth, if thou haddest not spoken, surely euen in the morning the people had departed euery one backe from his brother.
Et Joab répondit: Vive le Seigneur! si tu n'avais parlé, aucun des nôtres qui, depuis le matin, poursuivent leurs frères, ne se fût arrêté.
28 So Ioab blew a trumpet, and all the people stoode still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
Et Joab sonna de la trompette, et toute l'armée s'arrêta; elle ne poursuivit plus Israël, et le combat finit.
29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plaine, and went ouer Iorden, and past through all Bithron till they came to Mahanaim.
Partis le soir même, Abner et ses hommes marchèrent toute la nuit; ils traversèrent le Jourdain, le côtoyèrent et rentrèrent dans leur camp.
30 Ioab also returned backe from Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of Dauids seruants nineteene men and Asahel.
Joab revint sur ses pas, laissant partir Abner; il rassembla tout le peuple, et il vit que des serviteurs de David, il manquait dix-neuf hommes outre Asaël.
31 But the seruants of Dauid had smitten of Beniamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundreth and threescore men dyed.
Et les serviteurs de David avaient tué trois cent soixante des fils de Benjamin, qui accompagnaient Abner.
32 And they tooke vp Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem: and Ioab and his men went all night, and when they came to Hebron, the day arose.
Et ils emportèrent le corps d'Asaël pour l'ensevelir à Bethléem, dans le sépulcre de son père; Joab et ses hommes marchèrent aussi toute la nuit; le jour paraissait quand ils arrivèrent à Hébron.
