2 Samuel 2
1 After this, Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go vp into any of the cities of Iudah? And the Lord sayd vnto him, Goe vp. And Dauid sayd Whither shall I goe? Hee then answered, Vnto Hebron.
Et il arriva, après cela, que David interrogea l’Éternel, disant: Monterai-je dans une des villes de Juda? Et l’Éternel lui dit: Monte. Et David dit: Où monterai-je? Et il dit: À Hébron.
2 So Dauid went vp thither, and his two wiues also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
Et David y monta, et ses deux femmes aussi, Akhinoam, la Jizreélite, et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, le Carmélite.
3 And Dauid brought vp the men that were with him, euery man with his houshold, and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
Et ses hommes qui étaient avec lui, David les fit monter, chacun avec sa maison, et ils habitèrent dans les villes de Hébron.
4 Then the men of Iudah came, and there they anoynted Dauid King ouer the house of Iudah. And they tolde Dauid, saying, that the men of Iabesh Gilead buried Saul.
Et les hommes de Juda vinrent et oignirent là David pour roi sur la maison de Juda. Et on rapporta à David, disant: Ce sont les hommes de Jabès de Galaad qui ont enterré Saül.
5 And Dauid sent messengers vnto the men of Iabesh Gilead, and said vnto them, Blessed are ye of the Lord, that yee haue shewed such kindenes vnto your lord Saul, that you haue buried him.
Et David envoya des messagers aux hommes de Jabès de Galaad, et leur fit dire: Bénis soyez-vous de l’Éternel, de ce que vous avez usé de cette bonté envers votre seigneur Saül, et de ce que vous l’avez enterré!
6 Therefore now the Lord shewe mercie and trueth vnto you: and I will recompence you this benefite, because ye haue done this thing.
Et maintenant, que l’Éternel use envers vous de bonté et de vérité! Et moi aussi je vous rendrai ce bien, parce que vous avez fait cela.
7 Therefore nowe let your handes be strong, and be you valiant: albeit your master Saul bee dead, yet neuerthelesse the house of Iudah hath anoynted me King ouer them.
Et maintenant, que vos mains se fortifient, et soyez des hommes vaillants; car votre seigneur Saül est mort, et de plus, c’est moi que la maison de Juda a oint pour roi sur elle.
8 But Abner the sonne of Ner that was captaine of Sauls hoste, tooke Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and brought him to Mahanaim,
Et Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l’armée de Saül, prit Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, et le fit passer à Mahanaïm
9 And made him King ouer Gilead, and ouer the Ashurites, and ouer Izreel, and ouer Ephraim, and ouer Beniamin, and ouer al Israel.
et l’établit roi sur Galaad, et sur les Ashurites, et sur Jizreël, et sur Éphraïm, et sur Benjamin, et sur Israël tout entier.
10 Ish-bosheth Sauls sonne was fourtie yeere olde when he began to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned two yeere: but the house of Iudah followed Dauid.
Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, était âgé de 40 ans lorsqu’il régna sur Israël, et il régna deux ans. Toutefois la maison de Juda suivit David.
11 (And the time which Dauid reigned in Hebron ouer the house of Iudah, was seuen yeere and sixe moneths)
Et le nombre des jours, pendant lesquels David fut roi à Hébron sur la maison de Juda, fut de sept ans et six mois.
12 And Abner the sonne of Ner, and the seruantes of Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul went out of Mahanaim to Gibeon.
Et Abner, fils de Ner, et les serviteurs d’Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, sortirent de Mahanaïm vers Gabaon;
13 And Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah, and the seruants of Dauid went out and met one another by the poole of Gibeon: and they sate downe, the one on the one side of the poole, and the other on the otherside of the poole.
et Joab, fils de Tseruïa, et les serviteurs de David, sortirent aussi; et ils se rencontrèrent ensemble près du réservoir de Gabaon; et ceux-ci s’assirent d’un côté du réservoir, et ceux-là de l’autre côté du réservoir.
14 Then Abner saide to Ioab, Let the yong men nowe arise, and play before vs. And Ioab said, Let them arise.
Et Abner dit à Joab: Que les jeunes hommes se lèvent donc et jouent [entre eux] devant nous! Et Joab dit: Qu’ils se lèvent.
15 Then there arose and went ouer twelue of Beniamin by number, which perteined to Ish-bosheth the sonne of Saul, and twelue of the seruants of Dauid.
Et ils se levèrent et passèrent, au nombre de douze pour Benjamin et pour Ish-Bosheth, fils de Saül, et de douze d’entre les serviteurs de David.
16 And euery one caught his fellowe by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellowes side, so they fell downe together: wherefore ye place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
Et chacun saisit son adversaire par la tête, et [passa] son épée dans le flanc de son adversaire, et ils tombèrent [tous] ensemble. Et on appela ce lieu-là Helkath-Hatsurim, qui est en Gabaon.
17 And the battel was exceeding sore that same day: for Abner and the men of Israel fell before the seruants of Dauid.
Et le combat fut très rude ce jour-là; et Abner et les hommes d’Israël furent battus devant les serviteurs de David.
18 And there were three sonnes of Zeruiah there, Ioab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was as light on foote as a wilde roe.
Et il y avait là trois fils de Tseruïa, Joab, et Abishaï, et Asçaël. Et Asçaël était léger de ses pieds comme une des gazelles qui sont dans les champs.
19 And Asahel followed after Abner, and in going he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from Abner.
Et Asçaël poursuivit Abner, et il ne se détourna pas d’Abner pour aller à droite ou à gauche.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, Yea.
Et Abner regarda derrière lui, et dit: Est-ce toi, Asçaël? Et il dit: C’est moi.
21 Then Abner said, Turne thee either to the right hande, or to the left, and take one of the yong men, and take thee his weapons: and Asahel would not depart from him.
Et Abner lui dit: Détourne-toi à droite ou à gauche, et saisis-toi de l’un des jeunes hommes et prends pour toi son armure. Mais Asçaël ne voulut pas se détourner de lui.
22 And Abner saide to Asahel, Depart from me: wherefore shoulde I smite thee to the grounde? howe then shoulde I be able to holde vp my face to Ioab thy brother?
Et Abner dit encore à Asçaël: Détourne-toi de moi! Pourquoi te jetterais-je mort par terre? Et comment lèverais-je ma face devant Joab, ton frère?
23 And when he woulde not depart, Abner with the hinder ende of the speare smote him vnder the fift ryb, that the speare came out behind him: and he fell downe there, and dyed in his place. And as many as came to the place where Asahel fell downe and dyed, stoode still.
Mais il refusa de se détourner, et Abner le frappa au ventre avec la hampe de sa lance, et sa lance lui sortit par-derrière, et il tomba là et mourut sur place. Et tous ceux qui venaient à l’endroit où Asçaël était tombé et était mort, s’arrêtaient.
24 Ioab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sunne went downe, when they were come to the hill Ammah, that lieth before Giah, by the way of the wildernesse of Gibeon.
Et Joab et Abishaï poursuivirent Abner; et le soleil se couchait quand ils arrivèrent à la colline d’Amma, qui est devant Guiakh, sur le chemin du désert de Gabaon.
25 And the children of Beniamin gathered them selues together after Abner, and were on an heape and stoode on the top of an hill.
Et les fils de Benjamin se rassemblèrent derrière Abner; et ils formèrent une seule troupe, et se tinrent sur le sommet d’une colline.
26 Then Abner called to Ioab, and said, Shall the sworde deuoure for euer? knowest thou not, that it will be bitternesse in the latter ende? howe long then shall it be, or thou bid the people returne from following their brethren?
Et Abner cria à Joab et dit: L’épée dévorera-t-elle à toujours? Ne sais-tu pas qu’il y aura de l’amertume à la fin? et jusques à quand ne diras-tu pas au peuple de revenir de la poursuite de ses frères?
27 And Ioab sayde, As God liueth, if thou haddest not spoken, surely euen in the morning the people had departed euery one backe from his brother.
Et Joab dit: Dieu est vivant, que, si tu n’avais parlé, dès le matin [déjà] le peuple se serait retiré, chacun de la poursuite de son frère!
28 So Ioab blew a trumpet, and all the people stoode still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
Et Joab sonna de la trompette, et tout le peuple s’arrêta; et ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils ne continuèrent plus à se battre.
29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plaine, and went ouer Iorden, and past through all Bithron till they came to Mahanaim.
Et Abner et ses hommes marchèrent toute cette nuit-là dans la plaine, et traversèrent le Jourdain, et marchèrent par tout le Bithron, et vinrent à Mahanaïm.
30 Ioab also returned backe from Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of Dauids seruants nineteene men and Asahel.
Et Joab s’en retourna de la poursuite d’Abner et rassembla tout le peuple; et, des serviteurs de David, il manquait 19 hommes et Asçaël.
31 But the seruants of Dauid had smitten of Beniamin, and of Abners men, so that three hundreth and threescore men dyed.
Et les serviteurs de David avaient frappé à mort 360 hommes de Benjamin et des hommes d’Abner.
32 And they tooke vp Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem: and Ioab and his men went all night, and when they came to Hebron, the day arose.
Et ils enlevèrent Asçaël, et l’enterrèrent dans le sépulcre de son père, qui était à Bethléhem; et Joab et ses hommes marchèrent toute la nuit; et il faisait jour lorsqu’ils [arrivèrent] à Hébron.
