2 Samuel 19

1 And it was tolde Ioab, Behold, the King weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

Or, on annonça à Joab que le roi pleurait, et qu’il se lamentait sur son fils.

2 Therefore the victorie of that day was turned into mourning to all the people: for the people heard say that day, The King soroweth for his sonne.

Et la victoire, en ce jour-là, fut changée en deuil pour tout le peuple: car le peuple en ce jour entendit qu’on disait: Le roi pleure sur son fils.

3 And the people went that day into the citie secretly, as people confounded hide them selues when they flee in battell.

Et le peuple évita ce jour-là d’entrer dans la ville, comme a coutume de l’éviter le peuple qui a été défait et qui s’enfuit de la bataille.

4 So the King hid his face, and the King cryed with a loude voyce, My sonne Absalom, Absalom my sonne, my sonne.

Or, le roi couvrit sa tête, et il criait à haute voix: Mon fils Absalom! Absalom mon fils! mon fils!

5 Then Ioab came into the house to the King, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy seruants, which this day haue saued thy life and the liues of thy sones, and of thy daughters, and the liues of thy wiues, and the liues of thy concubines,

Joab donc, étant entré près du roi dans la maison, dit: Vous avez aujourd’hui répandu la confusion sur le visage de tous vos serviteurs, qui ont sauvé votre âme, et l’âme de vos fils et de vos filles, et l’âme de vos épouses et de vos femmes.

6 In that thou louest thine enemies, and hatest thy friendes: for thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither thy princes nor seruants: therefore this day I perceiue, that if Absalom had liued, and we all had dyed this day, that then it would haue pleased thee well.

Vous aimez ceux qui vous haïssent, et haïssez ceux qui vous aiment; et vous avez montré aujourd’hui que vous ne songez pas à vos officiers et à vos serviteurs; et je reconnais maintenant avec vérité que si votre fils Absalom vivait, et que nous eussions tous succombé, cela vous serait agréable.

7 Nowe therefore vp, come out, and speake comfortably vnto thy seruants: for I sweare by the Lord, except thou come out, there will not tarie one man with thee this night: and that wil be worse vnto thee, then all the euill that fell on thee from thy youth hitherto.

Maintenant donc levez-vous, paraissez, et en leur parlant, contentez vos serviteurs: car je vous jure par le Seigneur que, si vous ne sortez, il n’en demeurera pas même un seul avec vous cette nuit; et ce sera pour vous pire que tous les maux qui sont venus sur vous depuis votre adolescence jusqu’à présent.

8 Then the King arose, and sate in the gate: and they tolde vnto all the people, saying, Beholde, the King doeth sit in the gate: and all the people came before the King: for Israel had fled euery man to his tent.

Le roi se leva donc et s’assit à la porte; et l’on annonça à tout le peuple que le roi était assis à la porte; et toute la multitude vint devant le roi; mais Israël s’enfuit dans ses tabernacles.

9 Then all the people were at strife thorowout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The King saued vs out of the hand of our enemies, and he deliuered vs out of the hande of the Philistims, and nowe he is fled out of the lande for Absalom.

Et tout le peuple dans toutes les tribus d’Israël s’animait à l’envi, disant: Le roi nous a délivrés de la main de nos ennemis, lui-même nous a sauvés de la main des Philistins; et maintenant il fuit de son pays à cause d’Absalom.

10 And Absalom, whome we anoynted ouer vs, is dead in battel: therefore why are ye so slow to bring the King againe?

Et Absalom, que nous avons oint pour être au-dessus de nous, est mort à la guerre. Jusqu’à quand garderez-vous le silence, et ne ramènerez-vous point le roi?

11 But King Dauid sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the Priestes, saying, Speake vnto the Elders of Iudah, and say, Why are ye behind to bring the King againe to his house, (for the saying of al Israel is come vnto the king, euen to his house)

Or, le roi David envoya à Sadoc et à Abiathar, prêtres, disant: Parlez aux anciens de Juda, disant: Pourquoi venez vous les derniers pour ramener le roi dans sa maison? (Or, la parole de tout Israël était venue jusqu’au roi en sa maison.)

12 Ye are my brethren: my bones and my flesh are ye: wherefore then are ye the last that bring the King againe?

Vous êtes mes frères, vous êtes mon os et ma chair: pourquoi ramenez-vous le roi les derniers?

13 Also say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me and more also, if thou be not captaine of the hoste to me for euer in the roume of Ioab.

Et dites à Amasa: N’es-tu pas mon os et ma chair? Que Dieu me fasse ceci, et qu’il ajoute cela, si tu n’es le maître de la milice devant moi, en tout temps, à la place de Joab!

14 So he bowed the heartes of all the men of Iudah, as of one man: therefore they sent to the King, saying, Returne thou with all thy seruants.

Et il s’attira le cœur de tous les hommes de Juda, comme le cœur d’un seul homme; et ils envoyèrent au roi, disant: Revenez, vous et tous vos serviteurs.

15 So the King returned, and came to Iorden. And Iudah came to Gilgal, for to goe to meete the King, and to conduct him ouer Iorde.

Le roi donc retourna, et vint jusqu’au Jourdain; et tout Juda vint jusqu’à Galgala pour rencontrer le roi, et pour le conduire au-delà du Jourdain.

16 And Shimei the sonne of Gera, ye sonne of Iemini, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Iudah to meete king Dauid,

Or Séméi, fils de Géra, fils de Jémini, de Bahurim, se hâta, et descendit avec les hommes de Juda, à la rencontre du roi David,

17 And a thousande men of Beniamin with him, and Ziba the seruant of the house of Saul, and his fifteene sonnes and twentie seruants with him: and they went ouer Iorden before ye king.

Avec mille hommes de Benjamin, et Siba, le serviteur de la maison de Saül; et ses quinze fils et vingt serviteurs étaient avec lui; et, traversant le Jourdain avant le roi,

18 And there went ouer a boate to carie ouer the Kings houshold, and to do him pleasure. Then Shimei the sonne of Gera fell before the King, when he was come ouer Iorden,

Ils passèrent à gué, afin de conduire au-delà la maison du roi, et pour agir selon son commandement: or, Séméi, fils de Géra, prosterné devant le roi, lorsque déjà il avait passé le Jourdain,

19 And saide vnto the King, Let not my lorde impute wickednesse vnto me, nor remember ye thing that thy seruant did wickedly when my lorde the King departed out of Ierusalem, that the King should take it to his heart.

Lui dit: Mon seigneur, ne considérez point mon iniquité, et ne vous souvenez pas des injures de votre serviteur au jour, mon seigneur le roi, que vous êtes sorti de Jérusalem, et ne la mettez pas en votre cœur, ô roi;

20 For thy seruant doeth knowe, that I haue done amisse: therefore beholde, I am the first this day of al the house of Ioseph, that am come to goe downe to meete my lord the King.

Car moi, votre serviteur, je connais mon péché, et c’est pourquoi aujourd’hui je suis venu le premier de toute la maison de Joseph, et je suis descendu à la rencontre de mon seigneur le roi.

21 But Abishai the sonne of Zeruiah answered, and said, Shal not Shimei die for this, because he cursed the Lordes anoynted?

Mais Abisaï, fils de Sarvia, répondant, dit: Est-ce que pour ces paroles, Séméi ne sera pas mis à mort, puisqu’il a maudit le christ du Seigneur?

22 And Dauid saide, What haue I to do with you, ye sonnes of Zeruiah, that this day ye should be aduersaries vnto me? shall there any man die this day in Israel? for doe not I know that I am this day King ouer Israel?

Et David répondit: Qu’importe à moi et à vous, fils de Sarvia? Pourquoi me devenez-vous aujourd’hui des ennemis? Est-ce donc aujourd’hui qu’un homme sera mis à mort en Israël? Est-ce que j’ignore que je suis devenu aujourd’hui roi sur Israël?

23 Therefore the King saide vnto Shimei, Thou shalt not die, and the king sware vnto him.

Et le roi dit à Séméi: Tu ne mourras point. Et il lui jura.

24 And Mephibosheth the sonne of Saul came downe to meete the king, and had neither washed his feete, nor dressed his beard, nor washed his clothes from the time the king departed, vntill he returned in peace.

Miphiboseth aussi, fils de Saül, descendit à la rencontre du roi, les pieds non lavés et la barbe non rasée; et il n’avait point lavé ses vêtements depuis le jour que le roi était sorti jusqu’au jour de son retour en paix.

25 And when he was come to Ierusalem, and met the king, the king said vnto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

Et lorsqu’il fut venu à la rencontre du roi à Jérusalem, le roi lui dit: Pourquoi n’es-tu pas venu avec moi, Miphiboseth?

26 And he answered, My lorde the king, my seruant deceiued me: for thy seruant said, I would haue mine asse sadled to ride thereon, for to goe with the king, because thy seruant is lame.

Et, répondant, il dit: Mon seigneur le roi, mon serviteur m’a méprisé, et je lui ai dit, moi, votre serviteur, qu’il préparât mon âne, afin que montant dessus je m’en allasse avec le roi; car moi, votre serviteur, je suis boiteux.

27 And he hath accused thy seruant vnto my lorde the king: but my lorde the king is as an Angel of God: doe therefore thy pleasure.

Et de plus, il m’a accusé, moi, votre serviteur, devant vous, mon seigneur le roi. Mais vous, mon seigneurie roi, vous êtes comme un ange de Dieu; faites ce qui vous est agréable.

28 For all my fathers house were but dead men before my lord the king, yet diddest thou set thy seruant among them that did eate at thine owne table: what right therefore haue I yet to crye any more vnto the king?

Car toute la maison de mon père n’a mérité que la mort de mon seigneur le roi; cependant vous m’avez placé, moi, votre serviteur, parmi les convives de votre table. Quel sujet ai-je donc d’une juste plainte, et que puis-je encore réclamer du roi?

29 And the king said vnto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I haue said, Thou, and Ziba deuide the landes.

Le roi donc lui dit: Pourquoi parles-tu encore? ce que j’ai dit est arrêté: toi et Siba, partagez les possessions.

30 And Mephibosheth saide vnto the king, Yea, let him take all, seeing my lorde the king is come home in peace.

Et Miphiboseth répondit au roi: Qu’il prenne même tout, puisque mon seigneur le roi est revenu pacifiquement dans sa maison.

31 Then Barzillai the Gileadite came downe from Rogelim, and went ouer Iorden with the king, to conduct him ouer Iorden.

Berzellaï aussi, le Galaadite, descendant de Rogelim, conduisit le roi de l’autre côté du Jourdain, prêt à l’accompagner aussi au-delà du fleuve.

32 Nowe Barzillai was a very aged man, euen fourescore yeere olde, and he had prouided the king of sustenance, while he lay at Mahanaim: for he was a man of very great substance.

Or Berzellaï, le Galaadite, était très vieux, c’est-à-dire, octogénaire; ce fut lui qui fournit des vivres au roi, quand il demeurait dans le camp; car il fut un homme très riche.

33 And the king said vnto Barzillai, Come ouer with me, and I will feede thee with me in Ierusalem.

C’est pourquoi le roi dit à Berzellaï: Viens avec moi, afin que tu vives en repos avec moi à Jérusalem.

34 And Barzillai said vnto the king, Howe long haue I to liue, that I should goe vp with the king to Ierusalem?

Et Berzellaï répondit au roi: Quel est le nombre des jours de ma vie, pour que je monte avec le roi à Jérusalem?

35 I am this day fourescore yeere olde: and can I discerne betweene good or euill? Hath thy seruant any taste in that I eat or in that I drinke? Can I heare any more the voyce of singing men and women? wherefore then should thy seruant be anymore a burthen vnto my lord the king?

Je suis octogénaire aujourd’hui. Mes sens ont-ils quelque vigueur, pour discerner le doux et l’amer? Ou le manger et le boire peuvent-ils donner du plaisir à votre serviteur? ou bien puis-je écouter encore la voix des chanteurs et des chanteuses? Pourquoi votre serviteur serait-il à charge à mon seigneur le roi?

36 Thy seruant will goe a litle way ouer Iorden with the King, and why wil the king recompence it me with such a rewarde?

Moi, votre serviteur, j’irai un peu au-delà du Jourdain avec vous; je n’ai pas besoin de ce changement.

37 I pray thee, let thy seruant turne backe againe, that I may die in mine owne citie, and be buryed in the graue of my father and of my mother: but beholde thy seruant Chimham, let him goe with my lorde the king, and doe to him what shall please thee.

Mais je vous conjure, que je puisse, moi votre serviteur, retourner et mourir dans ma ville, et être enseveli près du sépulcre de mon père et de ma mère. Mais voici votre serviteur Chamaam, qu’il aille lui-même avec vous, mon seigneur le roi, et faites pour lui tout ce qui vous semble bon.

38 And the king answered, Chimham shall go with me, and I will do to him that thou shalt be content with: and whatsoeuer thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

C’est pourquoi le roi lui dit: Que Chamaam vienne avec moi, et je ferai pour lui tout ce qui te plaira, et tout ce que tu demanderas, je te raccorderai.

39 So all the people went ouer Iorden: and the King passed ouer: and the King kissed Barzillai, and blessed him, and hee returned vnto his owne place.

Et lorsque tout le peuple et le roi eurent passé le Jourdain, le roi baisa Berzellaï et lui souhaita toute sorte de prospérités; et celui-ci s’en retourna en sa demeure.

40 Then the King went to Gilgal, and Chimham went with him, and all the people of Iudah conducted the King, and also halfe ye people of Israel.

Le roi donc passa à Galgala, et Chamaam avec lui: mais tout le peuple de Juda avait conduit le roi au-delà du fleuve, et la moitié seulement du peuple d’Israël s’y était trouvée.

41 And behold, all the men of Israel came to the King, and sayd vnto the King, Why haue our brethren the men of Iudah stollen thee away, and haue brought the King and his houshold, and all Dauids men with him ouer Iorden?

C’est pourquoi tous les hommes d’Israël, accourant auprès du roi, lui dirent: Pourquoi nos frères, les hommes de Juda, vous ont-ils enlevé, et ont-ils conduit le roi et sa maison au-delà du Jourdain, et tous les hommes de David avec lui?

42 And all the men of Iudah answered the men of Israel, Because the King is neere of kin to vs: and wherefore now be ye angry for this matter? haue we eaten of the Kings cost, or haue wee taken any bribes?

Et chaque homme de Juda répondit aux hommes d’Israël: Parce que le roi m’est plus proche; pourquoi vous irritez-vous de cela? Est-ce que nous avons mangé quelque chose venant du roi? ou nous a-t-on donné des présents?

43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Iudah, and saide, Wee haue ten partes in the King, and haue also more right to Dauid then ye: Why then did ye despise vs, that our aduise should not bee first had in restoring our King? And the wordes of the men of Iudah were fiercer then the wordes of the men of Israel.

Et un homme d’Israël répondit aux hommes de Juda, et dit: Nous sommes auprès du roi dix fois plus, que vous; ainsi David nous appartient plus qu’à vous. Pourquoi nous avez-vous fait injure, et n’avons-nous pas été avertis les premiers pour ramener notre roi? Mais les hommes de Juda répondirent plus durement aux hommes d’Israël.
